So listen, the Yankees entering the season, obviously they knew Garrick Cole wasn’t going to be available. And that was a tough pill to swallow, especially after spending money on Max Freed and us having this fantasy that we could have Garrett Cole, Max Freed, Carlos Rodon, the new and improved Rodon in the rotation as a nice one, two, three punch. Well, that did not happen. But this is what has happened this year. Max Freed and Carlos Rodon have absolutely stepped up in a big way. Not only have they stepped up, but they have stepped up against really good teams. Now, Max Freed this year, 18 and5, he just got his 18th win of the season, pitching to a 292 RA, 31 starts, 188 and a third innings pitched, 182 strikeouts with the 1.10 whip. Breed though over his last four games was very, very good. before that struggled a little bit. Had a bad outing in St. Louis against the Cardinals, gave up seven earned runs. But since then, he’s been solid. You have that start against Boston where he threw six innings, no earned runs. You have that start against Washington, went seven innings, one earned run. But then there was a stretch where he had to pitch against the Astros, the Blue Jays, and the Red Sox again last night. Of course, we know the oral game, but against the Astros, Max Freed went seven innings, gave up one run against Houston. That bodess well for us. That bodess well for us because as of right now, we would be meeting the Astros in the first round of the wildard series. So, him beating Houston like he did and having that success against Houston like he did is a great sign. Then the start against Toronto went seven innings, gave up three runs. The start against Boston went five and a third, gave up two. Then against the Baltimore Orioles went seven innings, gave up three hits, struck out 13. Struck out 13. Bring bringing his RA, as I said, to a 292. I know Max Freed’s MMO is, oh, he struggles in the postseason. That’s what I’ve heard. I’ve heard that he wasn’t great in the postseason, but let’s be honest, his most recent starts against teams that were most likely going to meet in the postseason have me feeling good about Max Freed pitching in the postseason. Now, Max Freed, his career in the postseason, has a 510 earned run average and 20 appearances. Okay, fine. But we have to look at it this way. I gave you the numbers against the three teams that we’re most likely going to see this postseason or have a great chance at seeing this postseason. He pitched pretty damn good against them. So that is a great sign. And also too, the Baltimore Orioles, they’re no slouch entering the game. I believe they were over a stretch like 56 and 46 entering last night’s game. Max Freed went out there and through seven scoreless, struck out 13 of them. So really great outing for him against Baltimore. As I said, Baltimore is no slouch. So love to see the success from Max Freed. But we also have to talk about Carlos Rodan. Now Rodan, what a story, man. My gosh. He just adapted to being a Yankee. I don’t know if it’s the beard, not sure, but he just adapted to being a New York Yankee. I know his first year with us was was an injury plagued season for him. Only pitched 14 games for the Yankees. Pushed to a 70 RA that year. Wasn’t a great year for for Rodon. But then last year he he he pitched pretty damn good. 32 starts, 396 earned run average. 175 innings pitched, 195 strikeouts. This year I wanted, me personally, I wanted to see him take that next step. And my gosh, he far and away exceeded that. The dude did just a f is doing a fantastic job for us and I’m incredibly confident in him that he could go pitch in the postseason and find success there. But Carlos Rodon 16-9 this year with the 311 RA, 182 and a third innings pitched, 190 strikeouts. This is, I believe, the most innings he’s ever pitched in his major league career, by the way. 182 in a third innings pitched. But his most recent starts, we’re going to pick Rodon’s last eight. We’re not going four. We’re going last eight for Rodon cuz he’s been filthy lately. He’s been dominant in my opinion lately. So, let’s go all the way back to the Texas game. We’re going to start there. August 6th, Rodon went five innings, gave up two runs, walked four. So, control was an issue. And listen, control is a bit of an issue for him. His pitch count is a bit of an issue, but when he pitches, he’s good. When he’s effective, he’s very effective. Rodon, five innings against the the Texas the Texas Rangers on August 6th, four walks, as I said, two earned runs, three strikeouts. The next start against the Twins, seven innings, one earned run, two walks, five strikeouts. The next start against the Rays, six innings, two earned runs. And the next game against the Red Sox went five and two/3, two earned runs. Uh, five walks, three strikeouts. If he could just lower his pitch count a bit and pitch more conservatively, I know that’s not his game. I know that’s not Rodon’s game, but if he could do that, he he’s already a weapon in that rotation, right? And he’s pitching really, really well. But we’re going to need him in the postseason to go deep into games and maybe go into that seventh inning and pitch in that seventh inning because this Yankee bullpen, I’m not the most confident in them. I’m just I’m just not. Now, you might have Luis Heel in that bullpen or Schlitler or Will Warren, whichever direction the Yankees decide to go. Man, imagine if we had Garrett Cole as an option in our rotation for this year. Imagine if we had him. I mean, just a a different story. This we might have the best starting rotation one, two, three punch in Major League Baseball if Cole was healthy this year. Hopefully, he comes back healthy next year and he pitches well. But Rodon, let’s go back to him now against the White Sox. Went six innings, gave up one run. Then against the Astros, an important start because that’s a team that we’re going to potentially see in the playoffs this year. went six innings, one earned run. Against the Tigers, went six innings, two earned. Yankees bullpen just gave that game up, but went six innings, two earned in. And against the Twins went six innings, two earned. Those his last two starts, he should have won those two games. The Yankee bullpen just absolutely blew it for him. And that’s where I, as I said, I get a little nervous when talking about the postseason. Is that going to be a problem? And it might it might be for the Yankees. That might be an issue. We know it’s an issue now, but it might be an issue heading into the postseason. I’m praying that it’s not. I hope that it’s not, but it very well might be. And that’s where they have to tighten up. But as of right now, it’s fantastic news that you have two formidable options at that top of the rotation because we’re seeing teams like the Mets. I’ll make I’ll I’ll I’ll use them as an example. They go Ste Steve. If I’m a Mets fan, I’m pissed, right? If I’m a Mets fan, I’m pissed. Steve Cohen, that was his goal to take Sodto from the Yankees. And fine, you did that, but you didn’t address that rotation. You went and you got Klay Holmes, didn’t work out. You went, you got Montas, didn’t work out. That’s how you address the rotation. You brought back Mania, not the same as he was last year. You needed a bigger arm. The Mets could have easily have gotten Corbin Burns in the offseason. I get it. He’s hurt. But let’s say he was fine and and and and healthy. You could have signed Corbin Birds in the offseason and you could have traded for Garrett Crochet and had those two guys in your in your rotation. Not what you have now. Not relying on three young arms. McClean’s pitching well. I get it. But not relying on three young arms to carry you into into the postseason. It’s just unrealistic. The reason why I bring that up is because us Yankee fans at least are one and two are excellent and we stand a chance in a playoff series because of these two guys. Wherever the Yankees go after that, whether that’s Will Warren, whether that’s Luis Heel, Cam Schlitler, we’ll see. I would personally rather go Will Warren in the bullpen, Heel in the rotation, and Schlitler in the rotation. Schlitler in the bullpen might not be a bad idea. He throws freaking gas, so that that probably does bode well for the Yankees if he were to be an option out of the bullpen in the playoffs, but I wouldn’t mind Slitler in in the postseason rotation. We’ll see where the Yankees go with that. That’s why it would be great to have Cole. But listen, guys, let me know what you think down in the comments. Thank you so so much for watching. Take care.

  1. It’s very difficult to maintain an everyday Yankees based content. Baseball is a marathon and sometimes the stars don’t perform good in some games. That’s why hosts must be smart snd learn to find interesting content for us fans. I suggest Joe to stay the course snd avoid the temptation of overreacting. Sometimes I dislike the thumbnails, to be honest.

  2. Hey Joe, watch what you wish for my friend let nature take its course and just root for the New York Yankees. This is where everything goes wrong. Let nature take its course Joe go Yankees.!πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻

  3. Rodon's first year sucked… but mostly because he spent the first half hurt.. and I think the second half sucked because he was not in game shape. Still, both this year have been great and Cole would really look good but injuries are the great equalizer. Gil will probably make a good 3 so just finding the 4 when needed should be possible. Now Boonies use of the bullpen… leaves a ton to be desired.

  4. @TheShift2 Joe Caputo this very encouraging for the Yankees Max Fried and Carlos RΓ²don have been excellent this year since Gerrit Cole went down with Tommy John Surgery! Cam Schlittler has been a surprise as well!

  5. Mets are cooked. LMAO. And yes, Baby Cole Cam has to be in the post season rotation. Dump Warren. Lastly, Belli and Grish MUST stay in pinstripes.
