From Dave McMenanin:

At one point during the tournament, sources told ESPN, St. Jean showed a video edit of Doncic's defensive effort to Slovenia's coach, Aleksander Sekulić. St. Jean believed that Doncic, beyond his offensive brilliance, was the team's best defensive player, too. The edit showed — possession by possession — Doncic's proper placement, communication with teammates and overall commitment.

Pelinka saw it, too and registered it as an advancement in Doncic's leadership.

  1. There’s no chance in hell, lololol

You don’t need Luka to be an all-time defender. You just need him to be solid and give effort consistently

  2. It is not hard to be the best defender in this Slovenian team. He could be 2nd best defender in a very good defensive team. His ceiling is 2nd All-NBA defensive team. His team had to be the best defensive team in a league. Not imposible.

  3. MVP, finals MVP, WCF MVP, top scorer, dpoy, assist leader, most triple doubles, most points in single game, roty, mip and sixt player of the year incoming

  4. He was the best defender on the Slovenian NT, that’s a given, but I wish the article touched on something that’s lost in the mix: Luka was one of the best defenders in all of EuroBasket. People can keep joking, but he improved drastically as a defender. Idk if it changed and someone else took the lead after Slovenia got eliminated, but he led every single player in the entire tournament in stocks by the end of Slovenia’s run in the tournament, including Jokic and Giannis.

And if he did it with this scrappy Slovenian team, imagine what he can do when he has LeBron and AR helping him with offensive effort and he can take time to help on defense.

  5. He will get a shit ton of steals this season. His anticipation is pretty elite and he has smart hands in the paint.
