LIVE: Saints vs. 49ers Postgame Show | 2025 NFL Week 2

again, you know, really a little bit of a struggle for Blake Groupy right now and commits a penalty coming out of halftime where you don’t kick it far enough into the landing zone and you take a penalty. Now, the Saints were able to get a stop on that one, but really struggling in special teams also. So, it’s just not smooth across the board for the Saints right now. And in this league, you need all three phases, at least two of the three phases. Uh, and I think I answer my own question when I say you look at the box score, how’d you lose this game? the through the first two weeks the special teams there’s a lot of hidden yardage in there that’s being left you know on the field so you know coach coach See always said to me coach Bill Parcel’s always said to us there’s a 100 yards of hidden yardage through penalties or special teams equals seven points in a game so there’s a lot of points to be had out there just by not making plays in the special teams game and sometimes you just need to give your offense a boost by getting a nice return or defensively getting a going after a block punt. So special teams there there’s definitely room for improvement in the special teams category. Yeah. So right now, elusive that first win for coach Kell Moore. Elusive that first win for quarterback Spencer Radler. Again, we’re seeing improvement in incremental steps, but they’re going to have to take another big step because they’re heading to Seattle for next week’s game, and that’s traditionally been a difficult place for the Saints to play. Now, they have won there before, but traditionally has been a difficult place for the Saints to play. They will be facing Sam Darnold, but we’ll turn the clock back and look at this game because again, one of those situations where the Saints for the second consecutive week. It’s a one-sore game, they have a chance and they’re getting themselves in position. Now, it’s just a matter of figuring out a way to close it. Yeah, absolutely. You talked about going on the road. I’m excited about seeing this team going going on the road and facing some adversity because to me through the first two weeks, there’s been adverse situations in these first two games and this team hasn’t crumbled. They haven’t folded. There’s been times in in week one and week two where you felt like is the game going to start to get away? The other team has a ton of momentum and this team just they have a calm there’s a calm heartbeat to them where they don’t panic and I think that goes a lot to the coaching and a huge credit to coach Moore is this team believes in what they’re doing and they don’t ever get rattled and there’s been points today’s game where they could have got rattled and they didn’t. They stayed in there, hung in there and had a chance to go down and drive score to win this game. Yeah, San Francisco really starts playing them deep late in the game to force the Saints to play underneath. But the Saints did hit a chunk play early in the game. 39 yard pass to Rasheed Shahid. So that’s the longest offensive game so far of this season. And that’s the kind of thing you want to see out of this offense because they have playmakers. You just got to be able to one get enough time for the quarterback and two be able to get those guys on those routes where you want to get them deep. Yeah. I say looking at obviously everybody’s going to look at the win loss for the first two weeks and think you’re doing everything wrong, but I think there’s a lot of things that are going right on this team. I I think Spencer’s playing really good football. you can see the confidence grow with him week by week. Uh to your point, this wide receiver group, I think the Saints wide receiver group is is better than a lot of wide receiver groups around the around the uh around the NFL. So, and the offensive line is good. They can do a little bit better in protection. Um but they faced some good edge rushers through the first two weeks. So, I I I like a lot of the makeup of this team. And to me, Spencer, the most critical position on the football team, I can see the confidence growing in him. He hasn’t been making mistakes. He hasn’t feeling like he needs to rush things or be the reason they win. and forcing things and that to me that’s encouraging. He’s been playing well enough for this team to win. Yeah, his confidence level seems to be going up and he’s got to get a little bit more synchronicity with his offensive line. I sound like the police on that one, right? But he’s got to get a little bit more synchronicity with his offensive line. And the good thing is when the line hadn’t held up a couple times, Spencer Rattler has been able to use his legs to get out of trouble to buy a little bit more time to even scramble for some first time. We saw him run over a defender in the first half to complete a third down conversion. So, good things from Spencer Rattler from his legs, good things from his arm, his receiving cord coming around. You see a little bit more there. You see Jawan Johnson who started this game shaky, dropped a couple, but then he comes up with a huge, huge catch for a touchdown. And I think that restored his confidence because that looked like the Jawan Johnson we’re accustomed to seeing. Absolutely. That that touchdown down there, that’s the reason you resigned that man in freezing cuz he’s a mismatch problem. And I think what happened early in this game was as a player sometimes you hold on to plays from the last game and Joan was holding on to that play down here that he didn’t make and all week long you’re thinking what if I would have just made that play. I should have made that play and it’s uncharacteristic for him to have a couple of the easy drops he did early in this game. But after he caught that ball and he ran down the same sideline and he was trying to hurdle people 20 ft in the air. You could just tell he was out for vengeance. He was trying to re uh have vengeance or redeem himself for these these drops. But he’s going to be a huge part of this of this offense. He can be a big problem for defensive coordinators. Yeah. So you get Jawan Johnson going, you get a little bit of something out of Rashid Shaheen. And as Scott mentioned, another 100yard gain for Alvin Camry, the leading rusher in franchise history. You like to see that production and you’re going to have to have that balance obviously because you can’t simply rely on just passing from the secondyear quarterback. Having Alvin Chimera out there not only is a a great threat for this offense, but also a productive threat for this offense. and Alvin looked pretty good at times and then it looked like they had shackled him for a while, but the Saints stayed with the run game, which is key. Yes. No, that is key. And that was pregame we talked about last week. If there’s anything that this team could have done differently, sticking with the running game, a little bit longer against the Cardinals. Probably threw the ball a little bit too much in in Spencer’s first start, but they stuck with the running game. And when you got 41 back there, all the touches that you can get him are good. And and he’s been playing so well. He played so well today. I I I think they probably expected more of a two-headed monster with Kendra and Alvin together, but 41 looks like he’s in his third or fourth year in the league. So, you keep giving him the rock and and I look forward to them getting him more involved in the passing game because I still think he’s a huge mismatch in the passing game. Make those guys like uh Fred Warner cover those guys in space. The linebackers want to run downhill and hit people. They don’t want to go back and cover running backs. And I think a lot of people forget Alvin Chimera had 81 catches in each of his first three seasons, which is significant for a running back. Obviously, uh the Saints struggled a little bit in the secondary though. Seemed like they had a couple coverage busts, especially on the third and 11 touchdown pass to Jawan Jennings where he comes across the middle and he breaks free and and then it’s a foot race to the end zone. And you know, that’s something that looks like they’re going to have to shore up. Yeah, absolutely. You can’t you can’t win in this league and give away plays. And I think a lot of coaches and players would say those are giving away plays. The the frustrating thing is that again that was a that was a third down. So, it was it was about third downs and making those plays and getting off the field. All right. And we’re going to head to the podium now with coach Kell no. We wanted uh they brought um you know there’s pain just with losing again another short one but it really comes down to we got we got to do more of what winning football teams do. We got to play uh play better in situational football. We got to uh pounce on opportunities when they’re presented and um we got to give ourselves a better chance. And so uh there there’s too much good in there to uh to miss these opportunities. And so uh you know we we got to uh play better faster uh learn from these things um and go from there. Not to dwell on the negative of the first half after all the good things in the second half, but I mean, did it feel like a lot of the the there was a lot of self-inflicted stuff, especially penalties again that got you in that early hole? Certainly, we got we got to, you know, so-called clean your clean your own house and you got to play cleaner football um in all three phases and uh there’s only so many opportunities in these games and you have to value each and every opportunity in all three phases and when they present their yourself, you got to take advantage of them because there’s only so many. I know you have to defend against the scheme and not the quarterback, but how difficult was it? What was next to just did an excellent job finding completions. Um, you know, they hit a lot of inbreakers. Uh, you know, especially in a couple in those third downs, they hit some inb breakers and in situations where, you know, you have a little bit of an advantage in some third and longs. And, you know, that’s the uh that’s the story. When you get them behind and it’s third and 10 plus, you know, we got to take advantage of those opportunities from a defense perspective. What issues were you seeing on the defense? For us, we got to put oursel in better situations. Um, you know, we can’t be in these third and longs and um and then when the opportunity presents itself, we just got to play clean football. We got we got to have uh everyone on the same page. What do you think is the issue with third down defense for y’all on some of those third balls? Yeah, I think it’s a combination. You know, obviously we want the rush to show up sooner. We want uh you know, the coverage perspective of it to to play cleaner and give ourselves a better opportunity to be successful. And so, uh, you know, that everyone’s going to design plays. Plays are plays. Uh, we just got to execute at a much higher level in those situations because we’re doing too much good on first and second down to put yourself in those situations and it’s happened two weeks in a row. Uh, these third and 10 plusers, um, you know, we’re giving up way too much in that situation. Kell, what was your opinion of the uh, play with Alvin where it was ruled? Yeah, obviously the main main component that they were discussing was whether there is a catch or no catch and so uh, you know, there was there was enough action in there. Um I haven’t seen I just saw the TV perspective of it from the from the big screen. Uh obviously made it he had kind of controlled it with his hand and so once that happened it became a catch and you know there was a fumble so it’s close it’s close I think u you know you got to be you know conclusive and have a defined look there and so they felt compelled to say that. Were you guys having discussions on the sideline about the footing during the game? It seemed like a lot of guys were slipping. Um, a few guys had commented on pre pregame, but um, you know, I feel like um, you know, I didn’t see anything that drastically impacted the game necessarily. What have you learned about football first two games? Yeah, through two games. Um, we have a great group of guys that work their tail off their play style. You can’t take for take advantage or uh, you know, assume those sorts of things. Um, you know, we got everything we need, but we have to play cleaner football and we have to play and do what winning teams do in each and every moment from the beginning of the game all the way to the end. Uh, every play matters and uh, we can’t take grant take it for granted. You think Spencer took a step forward this week? Thought he did did some good things. I think obviously when you look back, you’re going to see some missed opportunities just like for all of us. Um, we’re going to missed opportunities in some critical situations and there’s only so many snaps in this game. We got to take advantage of them. It it seemed like M. Jones was clean for a lot of the game. Y were you happy overall with the pass rush? Was there talk about that? How would you describe the pass rush? Yeah, obviously there were some situations where he he was able to sit there in the pocket for too long and um you know, you let any of these quarterbacks in this league uh be comfortable in the pocket. You know, they’re going they’re going to be able to deliver some things downfield and so uh you know, we got to find a way to get to them sooner. There were a lot of 49ers fans here today. Got pretty loud in some situations. Do you think that had an impact on anything at all? No, obviously we we know they travel well. uh they they always have historically no matter where you’re at and so uh you know it’s it’s all part of this you know this experience. What did you see on the last play? Yeah, we just got we just got to you know cleaner and protection game. We got to give oursel a chance. Uh it was a quick win on their end. Uh Huff did a nice job off the edge and so uh we weren’t able to give oursel a chance. What was kind of the the hope with that play? What were you looking for? Yeah, it was pure progression. So obviously there was um it was left to right. there was there was a couple options within that play and you know really we couldn’t get the play started. Um just you know two weeks of a row kind of staff the last you know drive basically. What do you tell your guys going forward just to keep spirits high that you guys aren’t competing or is there anything you tell? Yeah, our guys are competing. I think um you know it hurts it hurts when you lose games like this and that that’s how it’s supposed to feel. Uh it’s not supposed to there’s there’s no uh feel good uh moments out of this. Uh there’s there’s plenty of positives, but uh you got to focus on winning and really focus on, you know, hey, the last drive. Yes, absolutely. But there’s so many opportunities from the first three and a half quarters that uh had a huge impact on winning this game. We had plenty of opportunities to take advantage of and we didn’t. How do you balance taking the good and what needs to be improved the rest of the season? Yeah, that’s that’s the journey that you’re on in the NFL. You have to take it each and every week. Um, we have to educate oursel. We have to go through a growth process. Certainly, tomorrow is an important part. We have to grow from this. We have to get better. Uh, there is a lot of football ahead of us. Um, you know, and so we we need to take the next steps and, you know, this next week will be our first time on the road. Uh, big time challenge going up to Seattle and our guys got to lock in. When you play on the road, you got to you got to lock in and play together. Do you take any positive out of the fact that you had a shot to win both of them in the last, you know, minute of the game? You can say we’re putting ourselves in position to win games. Um, ultimately again, we got to we got to do what winning teams do and we got to take advantage of those opportunities. Did you did you feel like the penalties and mistakes were cleaned up at all? It seemed like it it did kind of get less than Yeah, there there’s still some uncontrolled or some completely controlled uh, you know, penalties. And so that’s the main thing. Um, you know, we can’t have the silly ones, the the third down penalties when we’re in great position on defense and and the you know, the just the silly things on offense that 100% in our control. You know, we’re downfield on one and so uh, we got to play better from that standpoint. felt like we took a step. I think our operation was cleaner on offense. U we were able to still use tempo but play it under control. Thought Spencer did a good job in that that from that standpoint, but um again we just got to play at a higher level. What’s I guess the stance you missed a lot earlier in the game? Is that one you expect him to bring in? Yeah. Yeah. Obviously obviously we’re going to look back at that and I I’ll watch the film and see exactly how it went down. But obviously it’s a missed opportunity. It’s a critical missed opportunity for us. It’s a it’s a big time moment on our first opening drive and so uh we’re right there and we just got we got to get it done. The tempo can’t remember which drive it was before the touchdown. You had ran the ball three times in a row. Was that just to keep the tire defense on the field? You got to keep them Yeah. Yeah, certainly. We felt like the drive was extending. Felt like there was a lot of positives to keeping them uh on the field. Forced them to to stay organized and so u you felt like our guys that that was a good drive for us right before the half. you talk about what you saw from Raptor, not with his arm, but with his legs. His legs certainly showed up. The fourth down was a really good decision with the uh the ability to throw it and he he he ran with it and so uh certainly he made some plays with his feet, got got some first downs in some situations and so uh certainly a good thing for him. You feel like you open up the offense today, you know, being able to connect on some We had some deep deep opportunities. Um you know, I think we we hit some, we we did miss some and so uh we got to continue to find ways to uh get downfield with our guys. We got some really talented players who can play with speed and vertical threats and so uh we got to find ways to to hit more of them. Was that just more of a reflection of the way San Francisco was playing with more just single high or you guys think an effort? Probably both sides of it. Um naturally, you know, defense is going to dictate a few things here and there, but uh certainly we were trying to find more opportunities as we went. Through two games, how’s it been for you kind of balancing, you know, the play calling while also being a head coach? Like what’s that been like for you and has that been tough? Yeah, I feel like it’s been good. Um we got a good good group of coaches. We all um are on the same page. You know, there’s certainly opportunities that we get to keep growing from, but I feel like the communication’s been really good and so uh you know, we just got to play better. Coach, a lot of guys speak to your prep and how you’ve helped them prepare for weeks in and weeks out. Going into week three, is there any difference going to be in the prep work that you do to give to the players and for your coaching staff? I think we just really got to lock in on the plan and um you know, we talk about, you know, a blueprint each and every week. There’s a defined blueprint for all three phases and how we want to win the game from a team perspective and we got we got to focus on that. We got to get that done. Uh this will be our first game on the road in a really loud environment in Seattle. It’ll be our first time uh with this group in those environments and so uh you know there’s there’s great opportunity and excitement when when you go on the road and you do it together and you have to rally together and so u you know it’ll be exciting opportunity for us to go get it. you know, to watch the film, but do you feel like Sanger did good, but also just the communication with the secondary in general? Yeah, I felt like for the most part, you know, communication was good. Uh, I don’t feel like we had a bunch of miscommunication on the back end. We gave ourselves opportunities. We just got to take advantage of the the the ops with the the footing. Um, you were saying players were commenting about that pregame. Like, is there What can you do at that point? Like, beyond maybe just cle Yeah, I don’t I don’t know. Yeah. Um, I don’t think it really had an impact on this game. That’s fine. Did you address the transaction you all had Saturday, the trade for the receiver? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, yeah. Jay Jaylen’s obviously on injured reserve already, so he was already on injured reserve with New England, so we were able to, uh, acquire him. Uh, we’re really excited about that. He was, uh, you know, everyone, every everyone watched him coming out of the draft, you know, just last year. We felt like, uh, everyone when I was in Philly, when our our the staff here was in New Orleans, obviously, everyone had great feedback on it. We felt like it was a great opportunity for the future to bring a guy in who um we all think highly of uh add to that room. We feel like that room has uh you know we just got a ton of depth in that room for uh certainly this year and you know his becomes a factor in next year and so that’ll be a different experience there but uh you feel like we’re just adding to a really talented room right now. How much are you hoping a fresh start for him kind of whatever went wrong? Yeah. Yeah. I mean it’s the first year in the NFL. I mean I’m not going to overreact to whatever happened in New England. uh that there’s some, you know, some circumstances there. Um we liked him coming out, got good feedback. Uh excited with where he’s going. Thank certainly back to to Sanch. Yeah. Uh I thought Yonas did a really good job. I’ll obviously have to watch the film and evaluate it, but from from my standpoint, just watching the game, felt like he he made a couple really sound tackles. Uh I thought him and Justin communicated a really high level on the back end. Uh certainly feel like we’re in a good position with those guys back there. Was there anything you saw on the miss go in the operation? Yeah. No, I I’ll have to get the feedback on that later. I mean, with two missed picks from now, is there? Obviously, we just got to get better. You know, um Blake’s got too much good going on. Uh you just got to get better, clean it up. Um I think he will. Were there any injuries? No, nothing that impact that game. Everyone finished the game. All right. Thanks, guys. Appreciate it. [Music] You’re welcome. All right. What when you’re kept catching up with all your emotions and thinking back on that game, what what’s standing out to you most? Is it opportunities. Is it the play in the second half? Yeah, I mean thought we came out and played really well in the second half. Um we got to start fast, you know. Um you know, missed a touchdown early on. So that that was a big play, big moment. Um got to have that one back. Uh just starting faster, you know, starting faster, finding a rhythm. Thought we ran the ball well all day. Um man, we’re close though. We’re close. You know, it’s these games come down to the wire and got to do what winning teams do, you know? That’s what that’s what Kellen was telling us. And that’s cleaning up. You know, I thought our procedure was much better this week. Didn’t have as many penalties. Um, you know, we moved the ball well all game. Just got to start faster. You know, in those first three or four drives, and you know, that changes the game. So, uh, back to work. But, you know, that’s what we need to get better at, improve at, starting faster. The one that you brought up, what what happened at how close was that? Um, did you feel like it was on your end or his end or half a half? Like, what did you on that kind of play? What did you think? No, that’s such a timing route. You know, the ball’s got to be out before he even cuts, which it was. Just a little too to the left. I think I had a little pressure, but you know, we make those throws. You got to make those throws. I can make that throw any day. You talked about the slow starts. What do you think is the main cause of that? Um, you know, I got to look back at it. I can’t, you know, I got to look at the tape and and, you know, see what we did. Um, but, you know, our emphasis of this game was stay ahead of the chains cuz they’re going to use up a lot of time offensively on their side. So, we got to start good on first down, stay in third and manageable. I think those drives, we were in third and long a lot a lot of the time, and you know, it’s hard to convert on those downs when they’re playing with depth, you know, in third and long, but um you know, staying ahead of the chain. So, I think that’s the that’s the key. But the 49ers fans over here, did you guys ever have to go like to a silent count? Um, no. I just had to be really loud. you know, they they got, you know, they traveled well and, you know, they they had some uh you know, they were loud at one point, so but you know, we were loud enough and we I’m happy we didn’t have any procedural uh penalties. Um just the last drive after both the fumble on the last play, what did you see there and just trying to make a playoff? Yeah, I mean, got to have it fourth down, you know, try to step up. I think it was Bosa back there and um slipped a little bit and uh you know, they made a good play. Um, you know, and you know, those those sting, but got to have it on that fourth down. Um, you know, we were confident that we’re going to drive the ball down and defense gave us two shots at the end. Got to figure out a way to, you know, finish right there. You seemed a lot more comfortable in the second half. What allowed you to get in the rhythm and be able to throw a couple? I mean, I I I felt com We felt comfortable in the first half. We just had to find a rhythm. You know, I liked how we came out aggressive. You know, I wanted to be aggressive today. Um, hit a nice shot to Shahed over the top early. got to got to, you know, finish on that drive. So, I thought I love the play call. I love how aggressive we were. You know, was there a few spots where maybe I could have dumped it down, you know, and wanted to be a little aggressive, sure, but um you got to play your game. Um but at the same time, take what they give you, but I liked how we were aggressive towards our shots today. You feel like that was a more of a kind of an adjustment from the first week or did San Francisco just like give you guys the looks that allowed you to be aggressive? Yeah, they gave us the looks and I mean, a little bit of both. You know, we wanted to have more explosive plays this game. I think we did. Um but yeah, they they they gave us the looks for them and um hit a few of them. Got to find a way to hit more. What did you think of the reversal on the play with Alvin? Um such a bang bang play. You know, it’s a tough play. Um I think it was Warner made a great play on it. You know, that’s all really I got to say about that one. You mentioned slipping a little on that last one. It seemed like that happened a few times. Was the turf something that took getting used to today? Um just got to keep your feet underneath you, you I think uh I don’t got, you know, much to say on that one. But yeah, I mean, you’re going to slip in some, you know, some cases, but uh it’s such a react, you know, reaction based, you know, in that pocket. You got to just keep your feet under you and and try to stay up, not slide. I just didn’t know if this surface in particular was It’s a little slippery, but you got to overcome it. Kell said y’all were trying to um you said it was pure progression play that that fourth down. Yep. What I mean, I don’t to give it away, but I mean, what were you all trying to get across there, I Yeah, I mean it was either, you know, take the shot to L or get to the shallow coming across or if there’s a gap, run it, you know, for me. So, um, thought they played some good games up front. Kind of got back there quick and tried to step up and slipped a little bit and I think it was Bosa, you know, made a good play. Spencer, would you say that this is probably your best game here? I mean, yeah, you know, but you want to win at the end of the day, you know, we we play this game to win. We, you know, we play together. We we battle every week and you know we’re so close as a team. I think we’re doing the right things uh throughout the week. You know, our coaches have us prepared. We got to go out there and execute at a high level from start to finish, you know, but um I think there’s growth in in all of our games, you know. Um but just got to keep building. Got to keep building. It’s that simple. How how big or special is it to go back to Jan in a moment like that after, you know, you guys weren’t able to connect that moment? Yeah. No. Um he made a big time catch. you know, they pressured us a little bit right there and uh knew knew where I was going to go with the ball and he was ready and made a big time catch and a big moment and uh made a made some other plays throughout the game as well and um yeah, he he he he’s a baller and got other guys that are making big plays as well which is awesome. He made such an emphasis in the offseason not wanting to start fast to see him kind of do what does that say about him? What have you noticed from him that’s allowed him to start fast? Who? Oh yeah. Um just you know he’s a he’s a He’s a team guy. He’s a team first guy. He doesn’t care if he has one touch or or 10 touches, he’s going to play the same way every time. Um, you know, he’s going to make those big time plays. And if that’s in the block game, if that’s in the screen game, if that’s in the pass game, he’s going to step up, make those plays. Do you take any positives out of this? Just you said a couple times how close you guys were. Obviously better overall than last week offensively. Like, do you take positives out of maybe not this minute, will you take positives out of that? I mean, you you know, there is growth. You know, I think that’s that’s a thing, but you want to win at the end of the day. You know, it’s a close game again and all these games come down to little details and seems like a lot of these games come down to the wire. So, we got to do what winning teams do and just on both sides of the ball and attack those moments when we have them. You know, ride that momentum and convert and make plays to keep us in the game and uh you know, get us to win these games. So, I think that’s going to be key going forward. Just got to keep working. There’s a couple moments in the game where you kind of use your legs. Could you kind of talk about just that ability that you have? Yeah, I mean I I love the, you know, if they want to drop out and leave an open lane, I’ll take it. And then I love the, you know, fourth down call. Um, Kellen called with a little RPO. Um, same on the touchdown to Shahed. You know, I thought two great play calls. We executed them well. And, um, you know, in moments like that, you kind of got to take over and go get that first down if you have to. And, you know, that brings a little juice to the team, to the crowd. So, want to do that more. Kelvin Banks seems like a pretty soft spoken, respectful guy off the field. in everybody’s face after the way in looked like he went face to face with Bosa. Yeah. Just his demeanor on the field and especially being tested with a guy like right after the game. He’s a dog. I mean, for a rookie to go headtohead with Bosa, you know, one of, if not the best edge rusher in the league, it’s impressive. I mean, um, that’s a handful to deal with. You know, I thought we had a good plan protection wise. Um, you know, they’re going to make some plays. You know, they got great players on that defense. It’s a great scheme. Obviously, well coached as well. And but Kelvin is is a is a heck of a player and and and I wouldn’t want another guy out there. He’s he’s our guy. Him and Tally on those edges and um they both did a great job and yeah, you know, it’s great to see those guys run over after that late hit, you know, um to know they got your back and I I’ll do the same for them, you know, coming back to back games where does go down the wire. What does that do for a team mentally? Like do you rally around it? Do you have to be conscious to avoid not letting it linger the next time it may happen again? Like How are you guys going to process? I mean, we see where we’re at, you know? I think that’s the thing. We see where we’re at. We see how close we are in these games. And like I said earlier, we got to keep harping those details, keep executing early on so we don’t have to be in those situations late in the game. But, you know, a lot of these games are going to come down to the wire. Um, we’re built for that and we know we can go out there and finish and win games. Going into week three, um, 0 and2, how are you speaking to your guys to keep them mentally sharp, ready to go as the leader of the team, going into a big week three, how are you going to able to keep these guys spirits up? Yeah, it’s not an issue with this team. You know, it’s early in the season. We’re two games in. It’s a long season. Um, we got a lot to build on. You know, we we’re coming coming right back to work tomorrow. Uh, we’re not flinching. You know, these guys were built for it. So, um, I wouldn’t say the vibes are down at all. you know, we got we got a lot ahead of us and we we know what we can be capable of as a group and um we’re going to go attack. Good. Thank you. Yeah, we heard from coach Kell Moore and quarterback Spencer Rattler and the biggest thing is Scott, they know exactly what the issues are. So now it’s just a matter of being able to clean them up. Yeah, and it’s kind of an echcoming theme just you got to make the plays when they present themselves and and every Sunday that that’s the nature of the business. Most every team is equally talented. Some are a little more talented than others, but it really comes down to five or six plays in a game. And do you make the majority of those plays and and I think that’s the most frustrating part coaching this league and playing in this league is every player goes back after a game when you lose it and you think if I could have just done this one thing different. And when you do that, the the problem with doing that is you don’t want to hang on it too long cuz you got to move on. It’s 24-hour rule. Get on the next week. So you just continue to trust the process because you’re playing good enough football to win the games. It’ll come. You just need to trust the process. Absolutely. in this guy going to the podium. Dear Mario Davis is one of those guys who’s playing well enough to help those Saints win some of these games. Um that’s a very important part of the of the game is that uh you want to be able to get off the field on third down. Um I think we did a better job of that in the second half. Uh certainly want to be able to do that in the first half as well. Um got to give them give them credit. Uh I think um Mac Jones threw some some really good good passes. Uh played very smart, executed the offense uh having to step up. Um they’re a very challenging offense to stop and um they did some good things in the first half. We were able to stop it in the second half a little bit better. Spencer said a couple of times he feels like this team is close. Do you believe that? Absolutely. Um we do a lot of done a lot of good things. Uh, I think our offense put together some some some really good drives. Uh, defense came out u, made some really big stops in the second half. Uh, was able to get the ball of an unbelievable play by ever played by Chris Rump. Um, you know, and limited a a really um tough system offense uh, to stop. No matter who they have on the field, they they can be explosive. And so even when they’re limited on guys, um they’re able to dial you up and uh they were able to hit some on us. Um but we were able to limit them in a lot of ways. And I think multiple weeks uh we had a shot to win at the end. And that’s really what you want. These games are are close. Uh you got to find a way. And um I do I do like uh our team being right there. Um and I believe we’ll find a way get it done. where you been just feeling what it’s been frustrating was to see how much um I mean I think it’s been that way before we play them. Uh they have a one of those teams that travel really well. Um I think our fans still showed up um in electric way. Uh gave us competitive advantage. Um and um it’s it’s it’s great playing in front of our home base and our home crowd. Um they definitely are right there with us in those crucial situations. Um I think it’s becomes uh that much more important uh to to to win those games at home. You’ve been on teams that started LSU before. What what do you how’s the best way you’ve seen teams handle that like stick together and you know not make it 0 and three? I don’t think I don’t think you have to um make it any more than it is. Um then you this game is about execution. Um and you stay locked in and you don’t let one game turn into two games. Um I mean last year we started 2 and 0 and it totally went off the cliff. So, um, you can start 0 and2 and it can totally go the other way. I think that’s the way I like to try to look at things is, uh, one moment at a time, but always believing that the next move is going to be in your favor. And I just live like that. And, um, I believe, uh, this team has the makeup to move in that way. With you playing so long, so many years in in this league, it takes a toll on your body. How are you feeling mentally and physically as you progress through this season so far? Um, I feel great. I feel really good. Um, I’ve been blessed to play this game, as you said, uh, for 14 years and um, I I I know uh, the source of that and I’m not ashamed. Um, I know where I get my strength from, but I also have an incredible team um that’s behind me and uh it it requires a lot um to give your best each and every Sunday. Um I think in general this is this is a very tough sport. Um and the longer you go uh the more challenging it comes, but I have a phenomenal team that that helps me stay spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically ready. And I think it requires all of that. Um my mindset is constantly on at this point in my career, it’s not just about individual um greatness. It’s about collective greatness and how can I make sure that I’m that I’m moving in a way and living in a way and performing in a way and leading in a way that it exudes from me to those around me. Um, and I think that’s what I’m most excited to see is the level that some of the young guys in the building are playing at. I thought uh Spencer played phenomenal today. We had um Sanker have to come in um and step into a major role at safety and he did it at a high level. Um I think our quarterbacks are continuing to come along to play at the level that we need. Um, Grando is ferocious as always. And um, so I I think that’s what I’m that’s that’s how I’m trying to move and uh, and play like how can I play in a way that uh, it moves past just myself. How much have you seen grow this time of year? Oh man, it’s it’s it’s unreal. I think it’s there’s something unique and dynamic about him. uh that’s in there. Um he can make all the throws. Uh he’s very uh shifty with his feet and being able to keep plays alive. I think he has a unique swagger and confidence about him. Um and I think he can just continue to play with that and let who he is come out. Um the more that he just puts himself on display, I think that the the the city as a whole is going to be pleased with him. Um, I know a tough quarterback is the most challenging position to play in this league. And sometimes people can put pressure on you to look and act a certain way, but you just got to be you at the end of the day and be you. And I like our head coach, he always says, just let it go. And um, I think a couple of times in a couple drives, you can see him just out there letting it go. And um, it’s electrifying. And uh, we need that. We need him to just continue to be him and uh play at a high level and we’ll be all right. The fun between course runs and the offense being able to capitalize off of that. Can you speak to continuing those opportunities especially when you go on the road these same games? Yeah, got to get more got to be get more. It has to be a part of our culture. I think we’re doing a lot of good things getting after the quarterback um being physical in the run game. I think um schematically we’re doing things that’s putting us in an advantageous position. uh getting the ball I think is the name of the game uh in today’s football. We have to be able to do that and I think uh we’re continuing to emphasize it and I think uh it was great to be able to get one today but we got to get more. Got to get more. Going going into week three. Uh Seattle has new quarterback, new receivers, a couple new offensive pieces. Any early insight on some of the game plan that you’re thinking about taking them against them? Uh still a little early. um we got to be able to correct this game. I think uh you put all your time and your energy into the game that’s in front of you. And so when that game happens, um it’s, you know, it’s kind of landing the plane from that game. We got to kind of go back and look at this game and see what are the areas of opportunity to get better. I think whether you win or you lose, there’s always opportunity to get better. And everybody in the point at this point in the season in the league is in a race to get better. Um, and so we’ll do that, finish our process there, and then we’ll transition to to Seattle that is, uh, playing good football. Um, they played a really good game against a team we just played, uh, the week prior. Um, and so it’s going to be a challenge and going on the road and, um, we have to get hot really fast. Um, that’s no secret. So, um, look forward to the challenge. Look forward to going on the road and, um, you know, stringing together some wins. understanding that like Mac was going to be quarterback today for them and maybe want to use some like quick passing game kind of the plan today to to like rush less spend send more back into coverage and try to prevent that? No, not necessarily. Um, not necessarily. We knew that it would likelihood of him running the offense very similar to uh Brock Pury, which he did. I thought he made some unbelievable throws. Um, he looked really good out there. It’s no secret. He’s a first round, you know, draft pick. I think they did a great job in getting a quarterback who could come in and efficiently run their system. Um there was not a whole lot of drop off with him stepping into the offense. He did a he did a very good job and um this is this this is the pros. It’s the pros for a reason. Um the guys that are coming off the bench are very good players and um they can get hot and do good things just like starters. Um and he did that today. So you got to give him give him credit. Um, I think it was some some things that we could tighten up that we can do better and that’s what we got to fix going forward. For close losses like this, how quickly does it go from frustration to locking in and focusing on the next opponent? Uh, I don’t know if it’s frustrating um when you do it’s hard to be frustrated when you’re doing so many really good things. I think it’s it’s disappointing um because you you understand this game’s about wins and losses. So, it’s disappointing anytime you don’t you don’t accomplish a goal, but but frustration ain’t going to help. Um, when you got so many good things that you can build upon. Um, I like I like the way guys are emptying the tank. I like how guys are showing up and preparing. Um, it’s just tightening tightening up a few things and it’s just finding those one or two plays. Um, when you look at a one-sore game across the league, that happens a lot. You right there. Um the fight is there, the intensity is there. Um we’re just a play or two away that could have changed the game. We very easy to be sitting right here 2 and 0. And I think if you lose sight of that, you’re putting yourself in a bad situation. And um you know uh just keep putting water at the dam, but eventually it’ll break. And when it does it, it rushes. And so that’s where um we looking to move in that type of direction. in terms of turning around I mean I I’m I’m the type of person I embrace whatever situation that I’m in. Um would I choose to be 2 and 0 if I had the opportunity to be 0 and2? I don’t know. I think that would just be a foolish statement. Um, but we’re sitting here and we’re two and 0 and two and that’s what’s in front of us. That’s and I just see it as the the the trial of the test that’s in front of me. Um, I’m a man of faith and it says rejoice when you uh when you face trials because it produces character and life will never be about the person that can can smile and be up and continue to focus when they’re up. It’s about what you can do when you’re down or when you get hit in the mouth. Like that’s where it it becomes real. And I I choose to thrive in those type of moments. Um because I don’t run from it. I face it. I go right into it. And I just think that that’s where success comes from. Success doesn’t come from uh just winning. It comes from getting knocked down, making the correction, and getting back up. And eventually it breaks. And that’s what I was talking about. You continue to put water at the dam, eventually it’ll break. And I think we’re doing a lot of the right things that that that allow you to be successful. Um we just got to continue to do those and we have to tighten those screws up. Um everybody just continue to find that one or two plays. Um, so if it’s about two plays a game, we about four plays of being two and 0 versus 0 and two. And I just think you got to keep that perspective. Um, so we’ll we’ll we’ll have that mindset and we’ll go back to work, come back stronger. How do you think? Say that again. How do you think? Uh, I think we did some good things in the run game. Uh, we knew that they were going to try to, you know, run it on us. Um he’s a very tough back to stop just like our guy is. Um and Alvin um just a very challenging and with them being limited at some other positions, we knew they were going to try to put the ball in his hands and I thought we did a a really good job of uh limiting me in the run game. I think he made some some plays in the pass game um that we’ll have to go back and look at and see um if we could have did a little bit better job. But um overall I think I was pleased with the effort limit. All right. Appreciate y’all. God bless. So, we wrap up the postgame podium with Deario Davis. And this team is close. It’s on the cusp. And this is the NFL, Scott. So, you know, there’s going to be close games. So, it’s just a matter of which team can make the fewest mistakes and clean up the mistakes they’ve made. Yeah, that’s really what it comes down to. And the thing that’s encouraging to me is is you heard tomorrow, no people obviously you want to be two and0 instead and two, but you’re going to face what’s next up. You can’t do anything about what’s in the past. And what I hear from guys talking is belief in their voice. There there’s there’s nobody deterred by starting one two. Nobody wants to be here at one, but they’re excited about the challenge coming up. Now, we get to go we get to do something we haven’t done yet. We get to go on the road in front of a hostile environment. We kind of hunker down as a team and I remember coach P know you say this is perfect. This is perfect. What are you talking about going on the road at Seattle? It’s a hostile environment. It’s perfect. Now we get to go. We get to we like I said hunker down as a team. Have each other’s backs. It’s us against the world mentality. So that you can hear in their voice. They’re excited about getting to do that this week. Yeah, you just heard Scott. Saints on the road at Seattle 3 p.m. kick 3:45 p.m. I think kickoff 3:25 p.m. kickoff central time here in New Orleans. But the Saints are looking for their first win under Kell Moore. Quarterback Spencer Rattler still looking for his first win as a starting quarterback, but we see a lot of progress from the Saints. They’re inching closer to the goal and hopefully it’ll be accomplished in Seattle. For Scott Shanley, I’m John Deaser and this is the Saints postgame show brought to you by Uber Eatats.

  1. Seahawks next and then Buffalo. We’ll be 0-4 by then. Again, by the time we face the Patriots, I expect more explosiveness on offense and better performances on defense. Cornerback was an issue for me from the start and it’s really starting to show. Penalties is still an issue. I’m not shocked by the results

  2. Boo hoo. Going 2-15 on the year. Gave 94 a good ol bit contract. O-line is trash. D-line is trash. Poor draft picks for 4 years in a row no DBs Worse news is there is no more paper bags. If fans wear plastic it will the largest cemetery in the world.
    Blindfolds? Maybe

  3. I know we are 0-2 and have lost quite a few regular season games straight, but still super excited about what this team is going to be able to do once we get it clicking. Rattler will get the win next week!
