🔴LIVE 🔴Boston Red Sox VS Tampa Bay Rays /September 19/Mlb Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Boston Red Sox taking on the Tampa Bay Rays. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about set to go now. And starting on the mound for the Rays, Shane Bos. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. A lot more guys striking out today, but when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and miss stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Jiren Durant, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And the one and that drops in for a strike. Come on, Shane. up the middle. Williams now the throw to first on the run. Safe. It’s an infield single to start the ball game. Well, he did all he could at short to try to make an amazing play and almost got it done. But good hustle down the line. And that’s an earned infield hit. Here’s Trevor Story. I’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately. Working on a fivegame hitting streak. And that one in the air, center field sizes this one up, squeezes it, and there’s one down. Batting third, third base, Alex. Time now to check out the lineup for the Boston Red Sox. One thing these players do very well is stay out of the double play. They’ve hit into the fewest of any team in the league. Chris. Well, Boo, we don’t see situational hitting as that art as much as we used to because hitters are slugging the ball. They’re hitting it over the fence. But when you see a team that has the ability to shorten up, hit behind runners and go first to third or first to home, man, that just adds to the element of what you’re able to do in other ways with the bat. So, opposing pitcher better not walk anybody or give them free base runners because these hitters know what to do when runners are on. Pickoff throw and he’s back in there. One of my favorite stats all time. 1997 the Hall of Famer Craig Bio played in all 162 games for the Astros. On Oh, now this one’s high and deep. Way back there. On its way. Gone. That’ll fire up the dugout. His 18th home run of the season. And it gives him the lead in the first. It’s two nothing. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. He got his front foot down. He was strong on his backside. And when his bat went through the zone, there’s no question that ball was going to travel out of the ballpark. But that’s if you were putting a tape together positive to watch. That’s it right there. Just a perfect swing. Here’s the Boston cleanup hitter, Masataka Yoshida. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Thinking about Yoshida, he’s never going to be the biggest player when he’s on the field, but that doesn’t mean he can’t hit. He gets on base and doesn’t strike out very often. That combo makes you a valuable asset to your club. Oh, this is a good time to step out of the box, take a deep breath, reset. Couple of change ups. Probably won’t see another one here. Left hand batters, pitch in the dirt. Now one and two. And there’s a ball. Really good take, especially with two strikes. swing and a fly ball well struck left field. Mangum makes the play and there are two down. Batting fifth, first base Nathaniel Low up to hit. That’s hard hit on the line. Mangum makes the catch and over. Two runs for Boston on the home run. It’s now a two nothing ball game. Back now in Tampa Bay and our pitcher in this game, Brian Beao. How about a scouting report on him? Well, he’s putting together a really nice season on the mound. Erra in the low threes. Very respectable when you consider guys are looking to do damage. They’re not trying to just walk and hit singles. They’re trying to hit homers and draw walks and score runs. So, when you have a guy that can limit the other team from scoring more than a few runs, that’s really tough to beat game in and game out. Number 14, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Bats in there and the count one at one. He swings and hits a fly ball center field and it falls. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. And now it’s Brandon Laauo. Little chopper rolls foul. Red Sox already leading. Swinging a miss. And that is strike two with two strikes. may see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. And now one and two. That one missed. just missing there and the count’s full. So here we go. Base runner at first could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate. 3-2. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Oh, now he’s got two runners on after that walk. And things can get out of hand in a hurry in these situations. So, he’s going to have to find a way to get back into the strike zone. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. Diaz needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues. No outs. Runners at first and second. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Yeah. And making it to a 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him. Out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors, less than 5% have ever hit 100 dingers. Batting rightielder. All right, let’s take a look at the Rays lineup. Not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games, Chris. Yeah, Booan. That can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now. And that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs. So, we’ll see if everybody can just relax, bring things together, and perform at a level that they’re capable of. Josh Low, the next to hit, takes outside. at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play boo. Two on, one out and a count. One and two. [Applause] That’s down and in. Way to lay off that pitch down. [Applause] Still two and two after the foul ball. Runners at first and second with one gone. [Applause] On the ground and it’s just fouled. That was close. Next offering is downstairs. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. 3-2 now. Good job to fight that one off. Grinding AB right here. About to see pitch number 10. Foul ball and it remains a full count in an era with a lot of swinging miss and strikeouts. You got to love an at bat like this. No one giving in. Got him. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strikeout. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Well, getting a good look at the pitcher here in the first inning isn’t a bad thing. I know he struck out, but you can live with that as long as the other hitters in this lineup can learn something from it. So, two down now and here is Jake Mangum. And he swings and misses and it’s nothing to one. One strike. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. Strike two. And there’s a real chance they get out of this without allowing a run. [Music] Here we go. Gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] One and two here. And that one upstairs. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Runner around third. Throw is offline and he scores. And a 2-1 ball game now. A perfect example right there. That plate discipline, it pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. First and second, two outs. Tristan Gray next to hit for the Rays. Tap foul at the plate. And that’s through there for a strike. All you got to do is concentrate and execute this next pitch. Get yourself out of the jam, back into the dugout. out there to center. A dive and he can’t haul it in. Here comes the throw. Runner holds it third. So just one across on the play down in the count. Battling to stay alive and just a nice job to put it in play. He clearly didn’t catch that one on the big part of the bat. Just kind of muscled it out there. And you know on the mound it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes. So two outs with runners on the corners. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay Hunter Feducha. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Mangum at third. Gray on at first with two down. Check swing went around and the count is 0 and two. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Here we go. keeps the at bat going with a foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And the sweeper is off the plate. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Corners are occupied with two down. [Applause] and just misses with that one. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Two on, two outs. And now it’s filled up. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitter’s got to stay focused on the pitch. Carson Williams in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Out of the ground to third over to Low and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over. They get two and draw even again. We head to the second here at Tropicana Field. We are tied 2-2. Back here at Tropicana Field, all set for the start of the unit. And now it’s the catcher for the Red Sox, Connor Wong. [Music] Bos back to work. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Bos 25 years old, a former first round pick back in 2017. Up and in. One ball, one strike. Making the calls behind the plate in this one is Woody Keller. Yeah, and Woody does a pretty good job back there, Boo. He’s got a pretty fair strike zone most of the time. Maybe some inconsistency here or there, but usually he’s back there doing a solid job. And he hits a ground ball right side and it kicks off the base. So, a man on base to start the inning. Batting seven. He was definitely late on that pitch, but he didn’t get beat. He got the bat on plane and just kept his hands tight to shoot it down the first baseline for the knock. Here’s the second baseman, David Hamilton, third baseman, playing on the edge of the grass, looking for the sack bunt and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Rudder at first with no outs here. [Applause] That one’s in there. And that’s strike two. Quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher because you’ll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area. lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck. And there’s one down. [Applause] Batting eight, right fielder number 40. And now the right fielder. It’s a double play for crying out loud. [Music] And a strike man at first. One away. And strike two. Probably the best one we have seen. throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. in the dirt. The Rays trying to keep this a two- two game here in the top of the second. On the ground to third. Gray toss to second and that’s two. One hit in the inning, but nothing more than that. Now to the bottom of the second. We are tied 2-2. We head to the bottom of the second. And stepping in for the Rays, Carson Williams. Just missed. [Music] Swing and a miss. Strike one. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Next pitch is inside now. Two balls in a strike. Three balls, one strike. the other way and out number one on the grab. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. Bobby Seymour batting with one down. Takes a strike and misses inside. [Applause] That’s in for a strike on the outside corner and the count one and two. cut on and lifted in the air and a superb diving catch. Just a great job of concentration there as he leaves the ground to go airborne to make a diving catch. That’s a tough play, but he got the job done. So, the Rays batting order turns over. Here’s the center fielder. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Two down. Nobody on. Foul ball. Let’s go race. Liner base hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Now batting. Wow. At the plate. He reached out to walk his first time. Wow. [Applause] Runner on the go. Pitch outside and that’s a stolen base. Not even close. [Applause] and a count one and two. Runner at second. Two down. Bottom half of inning number two. Fights it off. He’ll see another man on second, two down. Swing and a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. And that ends the inning. The Rays strand just the one. Score remains 2-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top half of the third inning. Joel stepping in for Boston. Son Raphaela. [Music] Splits the plate. Strike one. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And that one lifted in the air center field. Puts it away for the out. Now batting the designated hitter. So the batting order turns over and now the DH Jiren Durant reached on an infield single his first time. And that one fouled off. One out. Base is empty. Swinging a foul straight back. And that one is inside. O2 fastball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. Next offering misses down and away on the ground right side in plenty of time to first and there’s two away. Now batting shortstop Trevor Story. Here’s Story now. Fly to center. His first time. He’s 0 for one. [Music] The shorts stop takes the ball. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire. And out there on the mound maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. Tampa Bay puts it in the air out towards left center on his way over. Brings it in for the third out. We go to the bottom of the third. All even at two a piece. And we’re back. Yandi Diaz now possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone. And that one sliced foul. Well, these Rays showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. It’s still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. And it’s in there. Base hit and a good start to the inning. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Next to bat will be the Rays four hitter Josh Low. Ball one there. Diaz gets his lead at first with nobody out. to short. Could be two offbalance feed. There’s one relay to first double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Now up for Tampa Bay, Jake Mangum singled and drove in a run his first time through. He swings and fouls one off. Two out. Space is empty down the line. Nobody can get there and it’s a foul ball. Battling here as he fouls it away. swings through it and that’s a strike out. Nothing do it for Tampa and this game is still tied at two and two. Out of the fourth now it’s Alex Bregman Alexman. right down to shoot. That’s strike one. You know, these Red Sox just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches. They’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Just so sound in his mechanics. hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Now at the plate, Masataka Yoshida fly to left his first time. That one called the strike. It’s 0 and one. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand. Flying drive. That’s a fair ball inside third. Around second is Bregman and he’s going to get to second with nobody out. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. And the Rays manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Shane Bos will depart and he’s on the hook for the runners at second and third. So looking for some help there. Back in a minute. Griffin Jack gets the call from the pen. He’s got some of the best swing and miss stuff going right now. He’s striking out hitters at a very high rate this year. So, this should be fun to watch. Go ahead run on base. And now the first baseman, Nathaniel Low. Golden opportunity right here in there at the knees. 0 and one with a go ahead run at third. Top half of inning number four. That one catches the zone. No balls, two strikes. to third. Base hit. One run in already. That’s a good job right there. You got two strikes on. You just got to battle. First and second, no outs. And the batter now, Connor Wong. And that is out of play. Let’s get the ball. Activity in the bullpen. Garrick Clevenger warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Kelly a right-hander loosening up as well. Swing in a liner. Base hit out into right center field. Headed for the plate. One runs in. Rounds third. Headed for the plate. Relay throw home. Not in time. He’s safe at the plate and they lead by three. Oh, that’s a big at bat coming through in the clutch to drive in a pair. He got a pitch he could drive, but he didn’t get too excited like a lot of guys do and pull off the baseball. Really good timing all the way through the swing and the barrel was so on playing with the ball. Easy drive into the gap for that double. Runner in scoring position. No outs. David Hamilton up next for the Red Sox. And there’s a ball up the middle over to first. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Now that is number 40. Now it’s the right fielder. He’s 0 for one. I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone here. Pitchers looking for a strikeout or a ground ball, hoping to keep that runner at third. That smash towards center. Brings it in. Runner tags from third. That’s a sacrifice fly as he comes across and they lead by four. Well, he hit that one pretty well. I think it would have been a lot more than a sack fly if not for that nice play by the outfielder to track it down. Good job of getting the run in. And now the center fielder Son Raphaela went with the sweeper but it misses. And that’s a strike. And a swing and a miss there. Swang and a miss. Struck him out. Inning over. Although plenty of damage done. So they move out in front after a fourrun outburst. On now to the bottom of the fourth. It’s the Red Sox six. The Rays two. Back now in Tampa Bay. Ready to go. Bottom four. Here’s the third baseman. Tristan Gray. Gray. Swing. A ball. Ripped right field. And that one back. And that one is gone. a solo shot. His fourth home run of the season and they cut into the deficit. It’s 63. [Applause] Oh, that one got in the jetream on a line drive. We saw the numbers on the backs of the jerseys of the outfielders, which is usually bad news. and all of a sudden they’re back in this ball game. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Hunter Feducha at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Yeah, that’s fouled off. That pitch just misses the inside corner. One and two to count. Action in the pen down there. Chris Murphy, the left-hander, up and throwing. Crochet warming up as well. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Swing and a miss. Had him out front for the strikeout. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of the zone right there. I don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty textbook pitching. Get ahead in the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. Williams batting for the second time. And that’s strike one. Just missed. [Applause] Pulled down the line. This one hammered, but it’s fouled. Well, he saw that change up really well. Just a little early. Still barreled it as you see. Home run distance just couldn’t keep it fair. On the ground to the left, Bregman. The throw to first. That’s an out. Up next for the Rays. First baseman, Bobby. And here’s the first baseman, Bobby Seymour. He’s 0 for one. Here’s a rocket out to left. Yoshida puts it away. That is the inning. The Rays creep closer thanks to the homer. It’s now 63. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Now pitching. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Ryan Baker. Well, I got to think he probably has a little extra in the tank facing his former team. And there’s not a player in the league that doesn’t get a little extra motivation when he plays against his old squad. Now batting Jiren Durant for two late with the swing there. Baker, 30 years old now, and they traded for him earlier this year. And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] Swing and a broken bat roller towards third. Bare hand has to hurry and he beats it. He’s saved. It was a healthy cut, but the same can’t be said for the contact. He got just enough of the ball to put it in play, and that’s all he needed. Tough play for the defense on what was kind of a swinging bunt. Man at first, nobody out. And now the short stop, Trevor Story for two in this one. That’s off the mark. One and0. [Music] And another ball. Chris, with that distraction and the speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. That’s in there. And it’s two and one. [Music] Right through there for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another line drive and that’s a base hit and out to a board. Up next for the Red Sox third base. Here’s Alex Bregman. He’s already homered here in this one. Here we go. First pitch misses. One ball. No strike. [Music] Just off the inside edge. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Durant over at second. Story at first with no outs. Next offering is fouled back. And there’s the strike. [Applause] Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. And a pop off right side. Foul territory. Seymour settles under it and makes the catch. And there’s one away. Up next for the Red Sox leftielder Masataka Yoshida. And next will be the cleanup hitter Masataka Yoshida. First pitch just misses. One out. Runners at first and second. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Two on, one out. And a foul ball he never moved because he never had time to with that kind of velocity. You’d prefer that pitcher work away. finish him. Spoils that one. And it remains two and two. That one out to right. Calls it in. Two away. Maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit. Couldn’t quite barrel it up enough to really drive it. Nathaniel Low. Here’s Nathaniel Low. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. First offering and it just misses. Two on, two outs. Close one. doesn’t get the call and it’s two and 0 now one missed. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. Connor Wong waiting to bat for the Red Sox. And there’s the automatic and they’re all loaded up. Well, the stage has been set for this offense. Boo. It’s all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here. Conor, two outs, bases full, and stepping in for Boston. Connor Wong. A chance for more damage right here. Couple of RBI’s for him in his last AB. That’s in for a strike. There it was. A high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. drops into the glove and that’s the third out. Red Sox leave them loaded as they’re unable to add to their 6-3 lead. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound, Chris Murphy. Left-handed batter at the plate and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. Here’s the center fielder. He’s two for two. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. What you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head, fouled off left side. Well, these Rays digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They’ve been lining the ball all over the ballpark and unfortunately sometimes it’s right into a glove. But still they’ve hit nine line drives so far and that’s something they should feel very good about. Story sends it over to first. Going up, one down. Brandon Brandon Loud next to hit for the Rays. Speaking of those line drives, you can’t get too discouraged when they don’t drop in for you. It’s important to remember that you pretty much did everything right. And that’s just baseball sometimes. And first offering is fouled off. Now a screamer into the outfield. Carous it and a couple of quick outs. Not fooled at all right there. He was clearly all over it. But sometimes you hit it too hard and right at someone. You’re looking for one of those bloop hits to get a knock sometimes. hard grounder into the outfield for a knock and that extends the inning. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. [Applause] Low up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. Diaz leads off first with two down to the inning. just missed. Hammered down the right side, but foul. Two outs. And that’s downstairs and outside. Jake Mangum would be next if they can extend the inning. Exactly the kind of bat you need in a clutch situation like this. Got to do whatever it takes to give him a chance. Draws the walk there and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Not what he wanted to do there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive and gives this offense a good chance to cut into their deficit. And stepping in for the Rays, Jake Mangum. [Applause] Late swing fouled off. [Music] Tying run at the plate. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Diving it gets down. Could be extra bases. One runs in. Cut off now. A throw home. Tag save. And now they trail by one. Big one there as he drives in a couple of runs. This is why hitters work so hard on driving the ball gap to gap in batting practice. There’s a lot of room out there and if you can rip one into that open space, it usually means extra bases. Really important at bat coming up now. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Chris Murphy out of the game and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So, the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. So, the closer summoned from the bullpen, Aldis Chapman, and we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. So, runner at second, two down. Now up for Tampa Bay, Tristan Gray. He’s already homered in this game and he swings and misses at the initial offering. Well, they’re applying pressure, quality at bats, quality swings right now and see this offense doing it. One player to the next, showing a lot of fight right now and they’re making it difficult for the back end of this bullpen to close out this game. So, the tying run at second. This one ripped but fouled to the right. All season long he’s racked up a number of saves and sometimes the adrenaline doesn’t get high enough until there’s a runner or two on base. Just about gives his skipper a heart attack, but that’s where he functions best. Swinging a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Yoshida on the move and he can’t quite get there. It’s a foul ball. man at second. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two [Applause] and a swing and a miss. They limit the damage here, but they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. It’s now 65. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. We’re back and they make a change to start the six. The new pitcher, Kevin Kelly. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season. So, these batters better be ready to swing the bats. Well, one-run game. Now, it’s the second baseman, David Hamilton. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] Swing and a miss as he was out front. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Out towards right center field. Long run into the gap, flashes the leather on the run and catch and there’s one away. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. [Applause] Tapped back up the middle. Up the middle and he knocks it down. still able to get it there in time and they do get the out. Now batting the centeriel two out space is empty Raphaela now at the plate. He’s a guy Chris whose highlights include some of the best throws from the outfield that you will ever see. Definitely one of the best arms of the sport. Now fly ball to right center. There you go. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that is that. So no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. 789 do up in the home half of the inning. It’s the Red Sox six. The Rays five. Back here at Tropicana Field. John Shami with Chris Singleton in the booth. And leading off the bottom of the sixth, Hunter Fiduca. Hey, what do you say now? And that one fouled off. looking to get the tying run on base. Fought off foul. Yeah, the infielders and the catcher can never give up on a play because if this guy thinks he has a chance, he’s going to throw it from the warning track if he has to. And a swing and a miss. And now one away. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes, slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. And now Carson Williams. First pitch misses. Chapman now one-run game missing inside. And that’s ball two. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. Next pitch misses way outside. Well, I would expect in this three- 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. [Applause] And the tying run is on base. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. One down. Stepping in, Bobby Seymour. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd. Right. I mean, yeah. I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. Check swing and he went. And that’s strike one. Tying run at first, the winning run at the plate. That just misses. And that’s ball one. Let’s go, kid. Fly ball down the line, sizing this one up. And there are two outs. Now batting center fielder Chandler Simpson. Last chance for the Rays. Now it’s going to be number 14. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. Right now they’re looking for something. Hit hard into the gaps. Give them an opportunity with two outs to score that run from first. That catches the zone for a strike. Going one. Now snap throw to first and he just got his hand in there. Well, at least you got the pitcher thinking a little bit. You don’t want to run yourself out of the ball game. You get thrown out or picked off, it’s over. Two outs outside corner. There’s the strike. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Got him. And that is the ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching, and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch. 65 the final here today. Boston picks up a huge win on the road. For Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show, thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
