Dallas Stars vs. St. Louis Blues – Preseason Game 1 | DLLS STARS PREGAME
Okay, I left my notes in my bag. Okay, I’m good. Go ahead. Oh, I’m on. Oh, go. Hey, guess what? First pregame show of the year. I just realized I left all my printed out notes in my bag, which is way over there, but I can call it up on my computer and it’s fine. So, guess what? Pregame show. Let’s start it right now here on DLS preseason style. [Music] [Music] This is the DLLS Stars pregame show. I got my notes, don’t worry. As we are ready for the first preseason game of 2025, we’ll get into all of that with Luds and Sam and myself. I’m Owen Newkerk. We’ll get to it. But first, let’s talk to you about two things that we’ve been talking about regularly here at DLS this month. First is Big Brothers Big Sisters. We are doing a big donation month here at All City. All City is of course combining of all five networks so far and maybe even expanding. Who knows? DLS then of course in Denver, Phoenix, Chicago, and Philadelphia. We are trying to raise money for our partnership with Big Brother Big Sister. So, in lie of the usual super chats, we have a donation button on YouTube. You can see it right in the YouTube p panel over on the right hand side. Now, this is really important. Tonight, we’re back to pregame or postgame shows. We’ll do a super chat segment, but instead of super chats, there isn’t a super chat button. It’s a donation button for Big Brothers Big Sisters. So, if you’re going to do a super chat, just hit it. Make a donation for whatever denomination you were going to normally do a super chat for. When we see that you have donated and it will tell us if you’ve done that, then write your question or comment of your normal super chat in the chat. Ryan will pull it up. We’ll do the bing bong and we’ll read it. So, we’ll still have our super chat segment. It will just mean that the proceeds will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Why not? And ending tomorrow night, the warehouse sale for DLS All City merch, 20% off almost everything there. Some stuff up to as much as 85% off. Great shirts, sweatshirts, some hats. I believe there’s a couple of mugs in there, a flag or two. So, check it out. A lot of great Dallas Stars themed DLS shirts, which we keep saying DLS Stars beat number one in DLS in ter in terms of merchandise sold for our specific sport. You guys are great. I saw a lot of them up at training camp in Fris the last couple of days. So, let’s keep it going. All right, let’s welcome in Craig Lewig. He’s not us. U usually he’s here, but he’s there because he’s still in Pittsburgh. He’ll be back uh Monday for our Monday show in Dallas, unless he decides not to, but that’s a different story. Luds, how’s Pittsburgh treating you? Uh, it’s pretty I mean, I just stay in a hotel room and I stay in here basically the whole time that we’re not at the rink and I make up videos for these little clowns and hopefully they get better. Well, we’ll get to all of our talking points. Do we have a Sam? We do not have a Sam. Then we’re going to get to them right now. So, we have a lot to get to tonight, lads, in our 30-minute pregame show. And to me, I went through the lineup and my first reaction was, as many will say, this is a pretty young lineup. You have to have at least eight veterans. And I’m gonna play you some clips from Glenn Gullson where he talks about that and how he does his lineups in a little bit. But there are still some interesting pieces in tonight’s group. And to me, let’s start with the obvious. Niels Lungquist hasn’t played a hockey game for the Dallas Stars since January 21st against the Carolina Hurricanes. I’m pretty interested. I know he won fitness testing and everything, but I’m pretty interested to see just where Niels is after such a long layoff. Yeah. You know what I I think it but it’s a good time for him to play, right? Because I mean, he’s not playing against 20 NHLers or 18 NHLers on the other side. So, I would think he’ll look pretty good tonight. I think, you know, just like a rookie would come in again after everything he’s been through from, you know, not playing in the playoffs and then getting injured and not playing for a season or whatever it was. Um, I think he has to kind of kind of ease into it, so to speak. I don’t think he’s got to go out and try to do everything in the first few shifts. And um I think the most important thing for Niels in particular is that he plays well in his own end. You know, I think the offense for him is a lot easier to come by. And I think what what Gully will be looking for and the rest of the coaches, Ela and everybody, well, you know, just just what he does and if he plays effect effectively and efficiently in his own zone. So, actually, you know what? Let’s pop up the lines, go right to it because I want to go through some things and we might as well show everybody who we think is going to play for the Stars tonight and we’ll talk about it. So Luds, Stars forward lines tonight. U obviously Nathan Bastion playing his first game in victory green. It’s not the first official NHL game. It’s a preseason game, but still Fox Bastion new and I’m interested although I can I have some thoughts as to why, but I want to ask you first. Why do you think they have Adam Ernie who’s on a PTO skating with those two rather than Oscar Beck tonight? Oh, I I think you’re trying to spread spread them things out. I mean, if you look at the other ones, too, like there’s there’s NHL guys on the on that first line. There’s NHL guys on the second line. There’s uh there’s Beck is on the third line. So, you know, I I think they’re trying to spread some some guys and have some seniority, so to speak, um on each line. I don’t know if it’s going to stay that way. I I think Gully is hoping that, you know, a couple guys look pretty good and he can move them around a little bit and maybe move them up or maybe put three guys together, you know. Uh so I I just think that, you know, these kind of games, we know everything’s on the table. Um, I’m sure they have a bit of a list that they’re they they want to get a couple guys a few more minutes than than a couple other guys because they’d like to see what they can do because, you know, they want to know if there’s somebody that can slide into this lineup, whether it’s at the start of the year or at some point, uh, you know, if there’s an injury early on. My other thought about the Adam Ernie placement is that he’s on a PTO, a tryyout contract, trying to get a job, whether it’s with the Dallas lineup, maybe Texas Stars, maybe with another team. And why not see what you have with him with a couple of NHL regulars because you already know what you have with Oscar back. Yeah. And well, I think you’re giving him a chance to succeed by playing with a couple guys that are used to, you know, used to what’s going to happen tonight. and and and especially when they’re when we’re talking at both ends of the rink, you know, they can I think if you’re I think what it does, it shows that they’re giving the kid a chance. We’re going to put you with a couple NHL guys. We’re not going to put you with a couple young kids or something like that that maybe you guys are a little discombobulated out there. So, you play with a couple guys that have played in the league for a bit now, especially uh Ratic, and he’ll be able to talk you through some situations if you need it. And you looked at that fourth line. Obviously, the second line would be Blackwell, Steel, and Bourke. Those three guys played together as part of the Stars fourth line a couple of times during the year last year. So that’s not surprising at all. Cole Lind is a great AHL guy. A lot of depth for for the Texas Stars lineup. Justin Ritzovian we think could be one of the guys who might be the first callup if they need a guy from the AHL. Bassian signing probably blocked Ritz Kovian from having a chance a real legit chance to make the NHL lineup out of camp. But Luds, this the fourth line is really interesting tonight. Emil Hemming, Stars first round draft pick, who I did not think showed particularly well at the prospect games against the Red Wings last weekend, but we’ll get another chance to show what he can do on a bigger stage. R2 Huru, we know what the young Finn can do. We’ve seen some things in him playing some NHL games last year. And then Antonio Strange, who is a very distinctive skater, loves to do the 10 and two all the time, but he suffered a pretty nasty upper body injury. He had a sternum and collarbone fractures. He had to be immobilized for a while during the season. Did come back and play some playoff games, but this is be a great chance for him to show everybody he’s he’s healthy. And, you know, he’s been around for a while. He went from being a guy that was really on the fringe to being a pretty legit AHL guy. Now, I know that a lot of times we’re at a point where you’re going, “Well, that may not translate to an NHL roster, but these are pretty important games for guys like those three.” Yeah. Owen, did you get a chance to see his injury how it occurred? I did not. I think the way that he skates sometimes can lend to that, you know, because if you get at that 10 and two position, you and somebody pushes you from the front or from your chest when you’re sideways like that. I’m, you know, I’m just wondering if that’s how that happened because I think I told you guys this a long time ago. Um, there was another player that I played with, Alfie Dan, and you know, Alfie was here in Dallas also. And I I remember the first time I had practice against him and when he first got traded when we were in Minnesota, I’m like, “What the hell is this?” I mean, I played against him a couple other times, but I just found it very simple to play against him because as soon as he goes into that 10 and two thing, I would just take my stick and put it between his legs and and now you have to you can push on his chest, but you got to hold him up otherwise obviously it’s going to be tripping. But you stop somebody’s momentum like that. So if a player that wants to play like that all the time, I think he puts himself at times in a vulnerable position because I don’t think you have the same kind of balance as you would skating normally. Well, let’s look at the defense leds because now we talk about a couple of guys. We mentioned Nils Lungquist already. We’re going to get our first look at Vladislav Koliaonic who was part of the Matt Dumba trade during the summer. And of course, I’ve been high so far on Trey Taylor going back to coming out of college last year, playing well for the Texas Stars in their long playoff run. And then I saw him play at the prospect games in Frisco last weekend. He gets to play with Alex Petravic, who we know very well, and then Capo Biano, a very experienced veteran guy with Gavin White. What are your initial impressions about as you look at these six and what you’re looking for tonight? Well, obviously you mentioned Kolio Chanic. I I’m I want to see him, too. I do want to see Taylor. Um, but I gotta say I have the soft spot for the old guy. I gotta be honest with you. I really do. I mean, I I just like the way Pro played in a couple times up here in the playoffs. And, you know, being in his 30s, I I hope he gets a good look because I like the way he plays the game. I mean, he’s a to me, he’s that perfect number six, seven or whatever. Maybe he can work himself into that. So, um, I think this is a good, uh, good time for him to step up and all he really has to do in my opinion and what I would ask him to do, I would say do exactly what you did in the playoffs. You just because you’re playing against maybe some younger players that are trying to make teams for, you know, for the Blues and things like that, you don’t have to be up and down the ice. Do what you do. Let them know exactly what you bring to this to this decor. Luds, let’s look at the goalies for just a minute. If we put that back up, Brian, please. We have Remy Porier who definitely earned big minutes. He had a tough first half and Magnus Hellberg really kind of took over early on as the better of the two goalies down in Texas. Porier turned it on in the second half had some good playoff performances. Hellberg went and signed in Europe. So it’s kind of Porier’s number one job. And although Neil Graham, who was on the podium this morning because Glenn Gullison elected to go to Fris or stay in Fris and coach the non-game groups this morning, obviously he’ll be on the bench tonight, but Neil Graham took the mic. And I don’t know if it’s because he was a deputy and didn’t want to speak out of turn, but we’re talking about an NHL preseason game and Neil Graham declined to say what they were going to do with their goalies. And I’m going, “Oh no, if we can’t say who’s starting in a preseason game, what are we doing?” Well, some of the reporters Sam and Robert and I think Leah all talked to Porier and I believe the unofficially he’s expected to start and then Antoine Bibo will play the third period. We’ll see if that happens. But I just wanted to bring up the uh absurdity of hiding goalie starts in preseason game number one. Like what are we doing here? KJB right off of game one in preseason. Uh, but this is interesting because look, goalie depth for the Stars is is not really a doubt. Otter one, to Smith two. End of story. But is Porier number three? Antoine Bibbo’s on a PTO. Could he earn a job? Maybe as the, you know, tandem with with Porier. And then because he’s 31, he’s been around a bit, maybe he, if he plays well, could be your number three. if you know you don’t want anything to happen with Jake or Casey, but that’s something that we’re looking at here in training camp. Yeah. And and I kind of I feel for the goalenders again like I talk about the lineup. You know, Porier wants to come in make a good showing and you’ve got guys playing all over the place. You got young players playing all over the place. What’s it going to be like in in front of him? So, and you know what, you never know. Porier gets off and he does shine early on, you know, and again, they’re still looking for, you know, we think a top six forward down the line. I’m just saying Casey De Smith, the way that he’s played since he’s been here, he’s valuable, you know, you never know. I mean, I don’t see that I don’t see that happening, but but I mean, he’s on a good deal. Um, and if you know, if he ends up playing well again early on, and if there Dallas thinks they’re in a position where they could, you know, move something like that, which I don’t even know if that’s the right thing, but if that, but it would all obviously depend on somebody like Porier showing that he could back up to Otter. Again, that’s a long way off. interesting idea. I would say, Luds, that because Casey’s on a $1 million AAV, which is a very, very good deal for the Stars for this year and next year, right? This is year two of a three-year deal. A team would have to come in and blow Jim Nil away with an offer because you’re not you’re not going to get much better than that for a backup, right? Yeah. No, 100%. I’m just saying that I think when you I mean, again, it depends on how upstairs feels. are we still as close as we were last year to winning this? And you you can see how hard it is to to get that championship. Sometimes you you know, whatever it takes to get a specific kind of player you’re looking for. I don’t see that happening, but because I don’t know anything about Porier, but but who knows? Hey, uh for people watching, don’t forget on YouTube right now, go hit that thumbs up button. That helps us out, you know. Hit that like button. That’s a big deal because if you thumbs up, YouTube will send it to and get it around and show everybody how fun we’re having in the pregame show. Uh, one question Matthew threw in. Is Taylor a right D? No, he’s a left shot. I don’t know if he can play comfortably on his offside. I’ve only seen him play on the left so far. If he was a right, we’d be really excited about a smooth skating right D. Led has a comment about this though. No, not about that. But you were you made me think of when I saw the lineup that they’re going to use tonight, I was a little surprised Maverick wasn’t on the left side that they move Blackie over to the other side. I I don’t know. I just thought maybe if that hole was there, we talked about him work getting an opportunity if he does play, you know, could he talked about liking playing on the off side. I thought maybe this would be an opportunity to actually see how we would play over there. And they instead they have Blackwell playing on his offside instead. That’s why I And Blackey plays really well, you know, on the right side. I’m not saying he can’t play there, but but again, Blackie is not 22 years old and and he’s, you know, he’s probably I mean, I think there’s more more hope for Maverick stepping up and being that point guy and adding to all that, you know, the offense and things that that Maverick can do. I would think that would be a good opportunity to see if he can play and what he what he looks like on the right side or the left side. We have we have a bunch of stuff to get to in our second segment here of the pregame show. But first, we have this from LSDs. Don’t you wait. He’s got an ad read next here on DLS. This really isn’t an ad read, right? I mean, it’s just more about the merchandise that apparently I’m the only one that’s getting stuck talking about it because you guys don’t want to anymore. So, I do. But here are your up to 85% off the sale, you know, on the sale and then 20% off the all city warehouse sale. So, you better jump on it quick because you never know how our GM Ben takes those things away. Um, but I will tell you again, the DLLS sweatshirt is bad. It is bad. Well, I can say it. It’s badass. Now, I still don’t know what the little teddy bear is down there on the right hand corner, but I’m sure somebody does, and that’d be a cool outfit to get, too. Knowing Owen, he probably has one of all of these things by now. But anyway, it’s a great sale. Obviously, a great price and uh if I think if we sell enough of them, aren’t we Owen? Aren’t we uh near the top as far as DLS and sales or something like that when it comes to merchandise? The DLS Stars branded shirts have sold way more than any of the other Beats here at our company. So, you’re saying way more than the Cowboys gear? That’s right. Or the Mavericks or the Rangers. It’s the Stars shirts. That’s all because of the people that are scrolling up and down on the right hand side of the screen there. So, my read’s over. Take over. You’re up. You are. And and there we go. Okay. Well, I am going to tell you about the supporters club because we’ve been talking about it now for a little over a week. And LS gets confused by the fact that we call it the supporters club badge, but it’s a little SC logo. And I keep checking in on the chat because Travis is in there, T0 is in there. We know that Ardell is in there. And boy, I like these bing bong emojis that they’re using, the Dirk ones. Look at all the emojis that you can use down in the right corner. Those are available only if you sign up for the supporters club. We’re talking about true sickle level stuff here. So, you have to be a DLS diehard crazy. You don’t have to be a diehard to sign up for the supporters club through YouTube, but boy, you can have a lot of fun with that. So, make sure you do that. you get uh you know the badge special emojis and we will be doing some exclusive content that only you will get. All right luds I listened to Glenn Gullson’s because we had a show yesterday. Glenn Gullson doesn’t didn’t speak until after the third on ice session which was I think almost by the time we were at segment four when he finally took the podium in Fris. So, we had to listen to it later and I clipped up a few and I really want to get your reactions and opinions to a couple of these comments that I think pertain not only to tonight’s preseason game, but training camp at large. So, the first one we’re going to talk about is this one about what he’s looking for in tonight’s game and the other preseason games moving forward. Our roster is pretty set. I just want to see I’m evaluating where the lines are and who’s a fit with who. That’s will be throughout training camp uh in pairings too. I want to evaluate that. You know, our roster is is pretty set up. Would like to see the young guys, but as a coach, your biggest evaluation always is how your concepts are being uh um for lack, you know, how your concepts are are being adjusted to in a game, right? It’s easy to go out here in in kind of a controlled atmosphere and they can understand the concept, but when real bullets are flying, you’re seeing how your concepts are sticking out there. So, that’s what as a coach you’re really looking at. And then you’re looking at for me as a head coach, you’re looking at line combinations and and uh who’s playing well with who. All right, let’s let’s talk about that. The approach he’s looking for because he already knows basically what this opening night roster is going to look like as long as everybody stays healthy. Well, the first thing I think of as soon as he starts off talking is he’s probably looking forward to like 30 other coaches or 31 other coaches in the league to next year when there are only what are there four preseason games or back of four. Yeah. Basically, he knows who the parts are. He’s just trying to figure out what parts fit together and what parts fit together and can play within the system that he wants them to play. because sometimes there’s players that can get a little off track in a certain kind of a style or system than the other two. And so he’s looking for that that chemistry between all three of them. And you know, like we talk a lot of times is you you get two guys that play well together and then you get a third guy that complements those two that can do some of the grunt work and the corner work and those kind of things. I I think you had mentioned it last week about he’d like a little edge on every single line, you know, an edgy kind of player. I mean, we’re not gonna kind of go back to the 80s kind of player. Um, but but I think that you have to if you want to do that and I think that’s part of why we probably see Jaime Ben up there, you know, up there with on that that top group with Wyatt that that he had up there the other day, whether he stays there or not. But again, I think that’s what what he’s trying to go for is that if we can get that kind of bite on each line and again, the Corey Perry’s because he saw that last year in Edmonton. He saw I have a clip for you, lads. I have a clip for you. This is perfect. I walked myself right into it, didn’t I? That’s okay. So, um, let’s stay on. We’ll stay on task. I’ll get back to Jamie Ben and Cory Perry because I want He actually makes this comparison, but you talk about pairings, duos, and how you get your D pairings. So, duos up front and the pairings tonight and in preseason. Here’s what Gully said about how he’s kind of approaching this. It’s tough in preseason because you have that eight veteran rule, right? And not all guys are going to play the 16 games. So, after these first game or two, I like to kind of try to stay with your power play units can maybe get some action together, especially later in training camp. Uh, I try to keep the pairs together that I think are are going to play together during training camp, but you’re going to see different wingers and certain guys. Um, and then you’re going to see different pairings, especially on defense because you can’t uh you can’t play your top pairs all the time. So, you got to mix and match and yeah, we have to have eight vets dressed every game. So, LS there the next one. Hold on on about how veterans want to play and where they want to play because that’s the next one. But just knowing that there’s six games and these guys aren’t going to play all these games. Gully and his staff do have to kind of mix and match to get some of these other guys in and and play because again all the NHL guys aren’t going to play six preseason games. Well, and he makes the point about the special teams, about the power play and the penalty kill and and those are the things that, you know, again, most games are won and lost because special teams, your power play, your penalty kill, and goalending. And so, he would like to see what clicks or as early as he possibly can because again, you’re not going to put yourself in the playoffs in the first 20 games of the season, but if those things aren’t working, you can sure put yourself behind the eightball. So, I think he’d like to see what combos work well uh on the power. I think he probably has a pretty good idea. you’ve seen the group of guys play together. So, I’m I’m sure he’s got some kind of an idea, but but he’s got to figure out there’s a couple pieces there, you know, like is like you talked the other day, is it going to be Muro? Maybe I don’t know if it was Shawn or Sam, and I agree with both you guys. I mean, is it going to be Mural leading off on the on the top one or is it going to be Thomas Harvey? What is the second unit look like? Where’s Matt Duchain going to play? You know, so there there’s some questions that I have, too. And I and I think that I I think the first thing would be coming from Edmonton where he was, you know, they had a power play that was clicking at, you know, sometimes at 26%, sometimes there was a year there. They were in the 30s. And so they just had the right five guys and they played the majority of the power play. Why not? I I think that Gully would try to get to uh if he can find the right five guys that can kind of get close to that that number uh right off the bat, he’d love to see that happen. Okay. One of the problems though is veteran guys don’t want to play six and they don’t necessarily want to get on the road. Here’s what Gully said about veterans playing only home preseason games this year. Yeah, I I think this year is tricky because none of the veteran players want to really play on the road too much. But if you look at we’ve got two home games and then three road games. Someone you’re you’re going to play on the road. You just you just have to. And if you you don’t play on the road, you’re not going to play for two and a half weeks. and they don’t like practicing enough to not play for two and a half weeks. That’s an interesting line, Luds. Nobody wants to practice for two and a half weeks without a game. So, if you because they play two the first two and the last of the preseason at home, there’s a good stretch of time between those where they’re either road play preseason games or you’re just practicing every day. And guys get tired of practice over and over like that. There’s not a lot of practices during the course of the year anyways. You don’t have to worry about the practice. So, I I’m just I I would say, you know what, if you have a group that that has been as close as they have been the last couple years at getting to where they want to go, but not getting there, you do what you have to do and you play the games that you’re going to play because if you want us to play in four of those games and you want us to play in the road for a couple of them, because we’re committed to do what we have to do to get off to the best start we possibly can. Okay. Now, let’s go back to the Jaime Ben Corey Perry comparison because you’re not the only one that brought this up. Here’s what Glenn Gullson had to say. He was asked about Jaime Ben playing on what we see as and he’s not playing tonight, but as in the first two days of camp playing on what we conceive of as a maybe a top line with Wyatt Johnston in the middle and Mo Ranton on the right. And our discussions that we had yesterday with Mike Hikah and the day before with Shawn was, can he play topline minutes and still be effective at his qualified advanced age? Well, here’s what Gully had to say. You know, you look at um you have a lot of players in the league that have the same kind of skill set as him. They play tough. Uh uh they they’re they’re good along the walls. They’re good in front of the net. Uh they got hockey IQ. Uh those guys are valuable. Um you know you guys had a guy you know Cory Perry that we we had here too uh um that was here I don’t I believe it was 20 I might have been in a lockout year. I can’t remember what year he was here but uh he was in Edmonton last year and he’s there those guys can you know with that IQ and that sense they can play. So yeah, Jamie’s very valuable to our group, not only in the leadership, but you know, we talk about his leadership all the time, but on the ice, um, you know, he’s a very respected player in the league and he goes to the net hard and I know when I ran the power play in Edmonton, uh, you know, you you you were still pre-scouting that, hey, he’s around the net and he can make plays and he’s got hands in tight. You know, Leds, I hadn’t really thought about it in that way before, but that’s really interesting because Corey Perry has who’s now in his early 40s and and assisted in the conference final. He goes, “Everybody keeps calling me old. I feel pretty good, although he did get hurt in LA in the training captain’s skate before camp started, which we feel bad for.” But that’s an interesting concept to Jaime Ben being more of an effective simple wall battles physical netfront guy and not necessarily being asked to be the guy that swoops around and covers a lot of distance. Don’t Cory Perry and Jamie Ben score the same way? They score dirty goals. They score they score goals because they’re willing to go to the tough area of the ice, which is in front of the net. when you’ve got people that are shooting the puck from the point at in the 90s in the hundreds and then you’ve got people that are trying to push you from the back, they’re chopping on your legs, I think Jaime has a little bit of an edge over a guy like Cory Perry as far as taking abuse because Jaime has shown that he’s not going to take the abuse where Corey Perry really hasn’t been known to be the guy that’ll drop the gloves and, you know, beat people up unless it’s Leon Bishell. But regardless of that, um, you know, so I I I just think that I and and here’s the other thing. If Jamie could play seven of 10 games on that top line and then you find a way to drop him down to where maybe two or three you play three games up there on that top line, then you mix in somebody else up there and you can find a way that Jamie finds a certain spot in the schedule or or Gully finds a certain spot in the schedule where maybe he only plays 12 minutes a night. He doesn’t sit out, but he only plays 12 minutes a night, but then he’s going right back to that spot, and you find little pockets during the season where you can get a little bit of rest for some of the elder guys. All right, LS, I want you to take a quick look at the St. Louis Blues lineup tonight. Here’s their forward group of what they’re going to trot out. Uh, some familiar names, obviously Dylan Holloway, then their fourthline guys like Torbchenko and Walker, who actually played with Ratic Foxa last year in St. Louis. Fox was the center with Walker on the right. Ma Matthew Pekka, interesting to see him, a young guy. Couple others, Justin Carbono up on the right side. He was a uh a draft pick this year in the draft. Um and then the defense for the Blues again just other than Philip Broberg, they’re top four staying home. They’re top six staying home except and Dylan Holloway and a lot of young guys, but they are bringing Jordan Bennington to play the first game less. And I thought that was kind of interesting. Yeah, I I did too. But, you know, I think Bennington probably wants to play. He’s one of those kind of guys and Army wants him to probably along with the coaching staff and Monty want to get off to a good start. Um, you know, a win is a win regardless when it is. And if they’re looking across the Dallas’s lineup and they don’t think that they have, you know, a lot of their stud in the lineup, they’ll take that. But it’s interesting to me because uh Bastion for the Dallas Stars is a right-winger. That Torpachenko for the St. Louis Blues is a left winger. I got a funny feeling they’re going to run into each other a couple times tonight. Keep an eye out. Is there not a better place for for someone that gets traded to a team like the Dallas Stars to introduce yourself to the fans? I have one last thing for you, Luds. So Sam was watching the warm-up and he tweeted out a couple of tweaks. Ryan, pop up the forward group again for the Stars if you could. Maverick Bourke not playing right-wing Luds as we This is what we thought for morning skate. Bourc is actually playing center on that line with Steel on the left and Blackwell on the right. Does that make more sense to you? Way more sense. Way more sense. So, and then put Blackie in a spot where where he’s accustomed to playing, right? Steel is a lefty that goes he plays up and down the walls. We talked about about Steel possibly playing up in that, you know, on that top six on that that left wing side if they need to. So maybe it’s a bit of an audition for for him also, you know, to see what he can do up there. What he can create. I think we know what he can do. Can he create a little bit up there? Can he put some points up and and and have something to do with pucks going into the net? Because if you’re going to be in the top six, you know, that’s going to be part of your job. it relatively different than than what he would do on the, you know, fourth line or third line where you’re just trying to make sure the momentum stays in your favor and you’re kind of going out there at times to to get the other guys, the top six, top seven guys a little bit of a rest and you’re not concerned about those guys going up there and playing in their own zone because they play well and then he’s also going to show up a lot of minutes probably on the PK this year. Should be fun to see what happens. This is one of the few games where Leds is remote, which means that even though this is the first one for our new producer Ryan to do as a pre and post game, he will this is a rare one where he won’t be sitting up in the lounge next to Luds watching the whole game. So, we’ll have to wait till Tuesday before you guys get to sit on the couch and and go over screen grabs and have a lot of fun. I bet you there’ll be a text message or two between you two during the game tonight. So Luds, hope you have no technological issues watching the game and we’ll talk to you for the postgame show. Ryan’s my new bartender this year. There it is everybody. Thanks for joining us. For Ryan, for Luds, and for Sam who couldn’t get connected, but we’ll get him for postgame. He’s over at the AAC. I’m Owen. We’ll see you after tonight’s preseason game. Thanks for watching here on DLLS. [Music] [Applause] [Music]
