Quinn Hughes on contract extension

  1. I said it before, but Hughes sticking around is going to depend on what kind of Pettersson we get going forward and whether or not his dedication to getting stronger this summer actually resulted in something. We were 6 and 7 points behind both wild card teams last season. That’s with the Miller/Petey drama and with Petey giving us a grand total of 45 points. Even if he only gave us 65, you have to imagine that extra 20 points from our supposed franchise center would have accounted for at least 4 more wins.

The “I’ll answer that with my actions next summer” sounds like he wants to extend. But again, it’s going to depend on Petey and whether or not he can at least play at a point per game level. We have a playoff calibre blueline and goaltending tandem imo. It’s just our forward group that needs to play to expectations.

Hughes leaving if we suck again the next couple seasons I would not blame him for. It’s criminal how this organization has built around our star players. Hughes only going to the playoffs twice in his career just isn’t right.

  2. Lots of past-tense verbage, decent amount of negative-before-positive sentence structure.

Gonna go out on a limb and say that if they don’t win the cup this year, or at least make a good run in the finals, he’s going somewhere else.

  3. This is an old interview from the summer. Just released via video. We’ve already panicked about this a few weeks ago as Canucks fans.

Recently, about a day ago, a reporter asked about his contract situation and he said:
“You just said I can’t re-sign for another year, so why would I talk about it”

  4. If the Canucks don’t make playoffs this year, I feel like he will look elsewhere. Can’t waste the prime years playing for a team that’s not a contender and can’t say I blame him.

Will the blueberry man let us rebuild if that happens? Nah, it’ll be another ‘retool’.

  5. Hope the team does well and he stays. This interview is a little discouraging though. Remind me! one year.

  6. I mean, anyone that follow the NHL knows he is going to play with Jack and Luke. The second the Devils drafted Luke it was when, not if. Sucks, but it is what it is.

  7. This is 100% Aqua’s fault.

1: Quinn *KNOWS* that with the bullcrap dumpster fire that is ownership if wants to get ~ p a i d ~ next year he can’t show any interest in doing so. His agent made damn sure Quinn know that if he says *”yeah I love Vancouver I see a great future hear”* he loses at least $10m over the 8 years in Vancouver.

2: we don’t even have a flippin dedicated practice facility

  8. Quinn is speaking in past tense the entire time. Bye bye time is coming. I wonder if he will actually land in New Jersey.
