Texans Suffer DISASTROUS LOSS & DROP TO 0-3!!! Offense STRUGGLES. Who’s to BLAME for the Struggles?

The same old story, the same old song for the Houston Texans. They start 0 and3 something that we didn’t even think was going to be a reality. Now we have to live in it. Houston has let us down and now we dive into how do we even get to this point with the Houston Texans after a promising off season. You are Locked On Texans, your daily podcast on the Houston Texans, part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day. Battle Red Nation from Ace Town to your town. But to my everyday from the Himalayas making it locked on Texans podcast your first listen of the day your vers your first view of the day. Thank you for stopping by to listen to your credential media member and Texas football analyst John Hickman. What we diving into today guys? Well I mean Houston lost another one and this time this may have been the most disgusting loss that we’ve witnessed through three weeks. So who gets to blame first and will we see some changes made? Rough day for the rookies, especially for left tackle Arante Ursery. So, we’ll dive into the rookies and more so the usage of the rookies for a team that absolutely needs the juice. But just looking at the game and having a conversation alto together about how hard it was to watch the Houston Texans play football, mainly offense for four quarters, even when they had an opportunity to win the ball game late. Today’s episode is brought to you by Mazda. Like our players, we sweat every detail because when you make every move count, pulling off the unexpected is only the beginning. Stay tuned later for highlights in this week’s Moving the Game Forward. Mazda move and be moved. Now, I think today’s a perfect episode to have a guest on. My friend, my god, let’s welcome to the show everybody. Y’all know him from the squash show. Stan Norfleet. Sand. What’s happening? What’s going on with it? Well, you know what’s going on with it? We just did the squash show. So, now you and I are going to have our personal one-on-one conversation. But it really all starts with this, Dan. It was hard to watch the Texans. I wasted four eyes on the Houston Texans through four quarters, right? Every eye for every quarter. And it hurt every time I had to use one. You know, the offensive game plan was was god awful, right? Four and four four 15 on third down. to get down to the red zone. And once again, we see Houston unable to punch it in. Now, through three weeks, 04 in the red zone, eight of 33 on third downs, and 24 penalties. And these penalties continue to come at the most inopportune time, pushing them back behind the sticks or allowing the team, the opposing team to get a first down for you. What’s been the hardest thing to kind of just watch and accept the fact that this team is just not going to get over the hump in this area? Yeah, I picked uh I think I picked Jacksonville 2417. So, I had them winning by a touchdown and and that’s what happened. Yeah, for me for me I’ve been jumping on the table for this. What they say? Pounding the table and and stomping for. I just have an issue with how this roster was put together. You said it from day one. My everyday whether I had you on the show we talked about on the score show every Dez from the Himalayas. Stan has said this since May of 2025. This was coming out of this is mini camp OTAAS. I’m like, John, look at what is the projected offense without Joe Mixon, right? That that’s not enough to go out there and put up points against NFL defenses. It’s just not. And through three games, that has proven to be exactly the case. There’s enough blame to go around. Uh I am not satisfied with the running back room. I know I might be in the minority on that. Uh, John, I know you’re a big fan of of a couple guys in there. Uh, I think that the offensive line, I’ve been quite vocal about that and it it reared his ugly head today. Cam Robinson is a better left tackle. Now, Cam’s not great, but he’s better at left tackle than Arante Ursery because of the experience. Arante got beat today by experience. Now, that same guy wearing 41 for Jacksonville today, a year ago at NRG, he did the same thing to Larry Thompson. That’s just a really really good football player, Josh Hines Allen, who ended up having the game-winning uh quarterback hit pressure on CJ and the ball flutters out interception. We know what what the result is there. But from the offensive, the running backs to the offensive line to the wide receiver room, I just don’t believe this team has enough weapons to be competitive in modern NFL football. And it puts CJ in a bind. and then they they’ve asked him to do so much more than he’s accustomed to doing at the NFL level. I just think it’s a bad recipe. First time play caller. I know, you know, we’ll get into the offensive line, the coaching and all of that, but I just disagree with what Demo chose to do philosophically and as well as Nick Cacerio in terms of the roster. Last part, John, they got two second round picks on that offensive line that are playing zero snap for you on offense. Blake Fisher healthy scratch. Juice Grubs is not playing any offense. You got Well, he Juice did rotate well and Thomasson against Oh, he got in there. I didn’t I didn’t see him in there. Okay. So, most second round picks for people are starting. You got a guy that’s a rotational guy at best. It It just It was a bad plan. I’m sorry. So, you asked me, that’s what I saw. That’s what I saw. That’s how we got here. And it’s been the same thing we’ve seen through three games. Yeah. And I think what’s been frustrating for me is just watching, okay, for the for the running back group, 19 carries all together. That’s including CJ’s trial, but each of the running backs ran for four yards per carry. Nick Chub, nine carries, 38 yards, 4.2 yards per carry with a long of eight on the day. Woody Mark, six carries, 27 yards altogether, 4.5 carries, 4.5 yards per carry with a long of eight on the day as well. Then CJ Strider, I thought, did a good job of taking what the defense gave him. four carries for 22 yards, five and a half yards per carry with a long of 12. The offense to today and really throughout the season, but today it just seems like they are trying things that on tape doesn’t look good. So you talk about philosophically, you know, schematically what’s what’s looking good, what’s not looking good, but on tape it’s not looking well. And then you go up against a Jags team that did everything in their power to give the ball give the games back over to you. I mean, shout out to the defense. They forced the Jags to 415 on third down. They got their interception, their first interception of the year. They got after Trevor Lawrence a little bit and got some pressure on him. Two sacks on a day, right? They limited number one run team in the league. There you go. I’m sorry. 86 yards, 3.6 yards per carry. The defense did everything that they could, but on the opposite side, you have an offense that I’m sorry, Demo Ryan says they’re close. What are you close to? Are you close to cleaning up the penalties? like they they came out and they tried to get creative. The uh reverse toss to Jaylen No, that was a gain of 12, but guess what? Penalty not negate that. So, what is the offense close to doing and nobody has a real answer to that because you get healthy week in and week out. You got Christian Kirk back today. You’re getting healthy. You got Andrews back today. Got Ingram back out there. But even at your healthiness, nothing looks like it’s going to be strung together to work. Everything looks up and down, up and down. Then you continue to shoot yourself in the footstand. That’s the Texas offense. I had an issue specific to today. Like what were we trying to get done? Right. The first series it was three consecutive passes. And when Nick, Kaylee, and Demo talk to us about offensive football for the Texans, they talk about being physical downhill. We’re done with the outside zone. We’re gonna be a gap scheme power run game. How? The first series, three straight passes, three and out. And then Jacksonville luckily went three and out and I shouldn’t say luckily, the defense forced them to go three and out. And then you get the ball back. But then what happens? False start by Titus. Um, Titus had multiple penalties today. Uh, with Arante Ursery later in the ball game, third quarter, face mask, Dalton Schulz, false start. I mean, it just it was veterans. Uh, Derek Stingley on the defensive end with a penalty. There’s the Neil Hunter with a off size for him. Like, it’s it’s wild to me that three years now do football and they still are undisiplined. eight penalties average three games, 24 off. From an offensive standpoint, I just don’t think the the pieces fit, John. They’re saying we want to run the ball downhill. Respectfully, Nick Chub had four carries in the second half. Woody Marks had two. So, you’re saying in the second half of a ball game, you going to run a combined six times? It wasn’t like you were down two scores. Yeah. and and and and negating running the ball in the second half. You said six carries all together. Six carries between Marks in the second half. Y that has consistently put the pressure on CJ Stra to save them because whenever they’re not running the ball and the numbers say where they ran the ball, they ran for a good average pop. Now you’re looking at offense, they got to rely on him. And what if those guys are not getting open and he’s taking the sack? We have to throw the ball out. When when we come back, we have to look at take a quick break. We got to look at a rough day for the rookies. Whether it was Ursery out there who had his lungs taken from him or whether it was just the guys that were out there not getting those targets. I think we have to discuss the rookie class for Houston so far. But the offense today, this is how the drives went. Punt, three plays, missed field goals, eight plays. Punt, three plays, field goal, 13 plays. That’s when they got down to the red zone and was unable to punch it in. Punt three plays. Punt three plays end of half. So that’s that’s one play. The amount of three and outs this team faces is is is we can’t defend it and it’s disgusting to watch. When we come back, let’s take a look at the rookies for the Houston Texans against the Jags. Tex fans, diving into the Texans talk can be frustrating for a lot of us right now. This is your therapy session, but also you know what can make us all feel better? Putting some extra cash in our pocket. This episode is brought to you by Prospects, the daily fantasy app where making the right call can actually play off big. You and I make decisions every day, but on Prospects, being right means cashing in. With football and NFL back college as well, Prospects is the simplest and fastest way to get in on the action. Just pick more or less on two to six player stat projections, and you can turn your hot takes into real prizes, all in less than 60 seconds. Download the prospect app today and use code locked on NFL to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code locked on NFL for $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 play. Prospects, I don’t know about y’all, but it’s good to be right. Continue with the conversation of just what’s been going wrong with the Houston Texans. And I want to say a combination of everything has been going wrong for the Houston Texans. We get to the second half. saying four plays, uh, negative 11 yards, punt, get to the fourth quarter, the Houston Texans, and shout out to that defense, they only had one drive in that third quarter offensively. They get to the fourth quarter, five plays, 33 31 yards, interception, then it goes punt, touchdown when Nico Collins got open on a good double route, double route, fumble, busted coverage, bust the coverage, but I think he did a good job of trying to, you know, on the route fumble and then interception. So, whenever they did have the ball in the second half, they weren’t able to really do much with it with the game still in play outside of the one touchdown. The offense struggled throughout the game. But what’s been alarming to me is the fact that cuz we’ll talk about Ursery. Jaden Higgins, one target, one catch, five yards. Jaylen Noah, one target, one catch, four yards. They combined for two catches for four yards on an offense that is struggling to get juice. Woody Mars got busy today. I think he did a fairly good job with his carries and I think he needs to get more carries. I think he’s an underrated raer, excuse me. A lot of people look at him as a pass catcher, but instead, why are we not able to see these rookies get on the field consistently, get the opportunities, and get the targets to give this offense something that they’re lacking? It reminds me a little bit of Robert Woods taking over snaps a couple of years ago when it feels like, hey, you got some younger guys that maybe Noah Brown, Robert Woods. Yeah, let’s get some of these young juiceful guys. But you drafted these guys in the top 100, yet they’re unable to get on the field consistently and get targets consistently. What’s going on? So, that tell that tells me one or two things. It tells me either the young guys in Higgins and N or Iowa State, what they call them, the three Cyclones. Those two being rookies, they’re either not good enough yet or Nick Kayley doesn’t trust them yet. That’s the only two reasons you wouldn’t. You can purposely get anybody the ball you want. CJ, we going to break the hundle. Outside of it just being a horrendous coverage, throw the guy wearing, you know, number four the ball or whatever. You know what I mean? like you or 14 like you can get guys the ball if you want. It tells me that Nick Kaye does not yet believe that they give them those two in particular. Uh I thought Woody March did some positive things today. Uh there’s specifically a snap where uh Woody Mars is in the game and uh by the way Damon Pierce healthy scratch today as well as British Brooks. So I figured it would be a heavy heavy workload. I have not seen the percentages of the offense. I was curious how many offensive snaps Dar got today. I don’t think it was a lot. I think Woody got Dar’s snaps on offense today in those third down packages and situations and pass pro was a problem today. There was there was a time that uh it was either Trayvon Walker or Josh Hines Allen just absolutely busted up Tay Ursery and then Woody I guess was trying to get in the way and he got bolo too. You’re gonna lose some plays in the NFL. No matter who you are, especially superstars. Yeah. And Josh Allen, Josh Allen is a top 10 edge defender in this league. That dude’s been playing high quality football for a long time and is appropriately being paid as such. And he got another dog on the opposite side. Uh speaking of former Georgia number one overall pick Trayvon Walker on that other side. So, it’s a formidable duo. I have maintained they put Tay Ursery in a bad spot. I was I have always said start with Cam Robinson and then bring Tay along slowly. Why force him into the spot just so you can brag that you got a second round pick out there starting? Again, I don’t think Cam is great, but I think the experience and he’s still just 29 years old. I thought that combination gave you a better opportunity. Tursery had a big boy camp, had a hell of a camp and here he is. But today was a tough matchup. And the reason I come and ask you this, and this impacts those wicked wide receivers, if you have to keep people in to pass protect, those are fewer opportunities for weapons to run routes. So, if we can’t protect, I can’t get null on the field. There were a couple of plays where uh play action, twoman routes down the field. And and and to your point, you’re right, that limits the extra bodies out there because of the inabilities to protect for CJ. I’m glad you they were doing match protect and still was still getting like there’s nothing you can really do. And and like I said, I I look at the number of carries even including Woody Mars. I’m like, okay, you want to be committed to the run game. Both Texans running backs, Chub and March, combined for just 15 carries. Who are you beating in the NFL with 15 carries? If I mean, when your offensive philosophy, the staple is being able to run the football. It It was It’s packaged together poorly. The pieces don’t match, John. And I think unless they do something drastic, either via trade or doing something philosophical and and we gonna scratch or we gonna put on hold. We’re gonna put on hold this New England offense thing and we going to get back to doing some of the things that CJ wants to do and and focus in on that plays that work. We’re going to just Yeah. Go ahead. Fans don’t want to hear that that that that um that way that word that comes be before the way the Patriot way. They don’t want to hear that. But the reality of it is rookies not getting on the field consistently. That’s a Patriot way thing. What they ask of their receivers specifically, that’s a Patriot way thing. What they look for in terms of communication and and the connection between their quarterback and and how they want those guys to be able to be able to process everything somewhat on the fly when they’re out there running their routes. That’s a certain slot, especially from the slot. That’s a Patriot way thing. Uh can we stop right there though? I want to add a thought before you move off to rookies. I apologize, but look at juxapose the position and how they’ve handled the offensive rookies versus how they handled the defensive rookies. Will Anderson started day one. Kamari Lassa started day one. Bulock got snapped very early into that season and held on to that job, especially when Jimmy Ward goes down. So, you got Bullock and Lacer that played a ton of snaps last year. You got Will that played a ton of snaps the year before that and it’s like why why are you not playing the offensive rookies if that’s who you chose to select? Because I’mma be clear, I was in the minority. I said to myself, the Texans needed more weaponry. They chose in the second and third round. They traded out of 25. Okay, fine. You got to value picking Arante Ursery. You still could have kept Larry Munzel and drafted Ursery. They chose not to do that. Fine. You also could have traded up from 25 to get in front of Tampa at 19 and drafted Amecha Ibuka who has a relationship with CJ Stra. Ohio State wide receivers I would say have been highly successful in the National Football League under Ryan Day. So I’m just like they had other options offensively they could have done and just they chose who they chose. I’m not saying that Higgins and N won’t develop, but when you in a Super Bowl window that the Texans open this season in, I didn’t think that those two specifically would be helping the Texans. And so, we’ll see what Kaylee and De Mo’s got to do something. Stay the course is not an option. You also said something that, you know, piques my interest really quick before we move forward. Develop the Houston Texans. It it it took a while for Nico, so he’s one. But outside of their number one pick receivers traditionally, they haven’t developed receivers. They gave up on Mitch. Brevin Jordan is a tight end. Can’t stay healthy, right? If you look at back in the day, some of the guys that they brought in. So, this is not a organization that has developed uh late round picks outside of Nico Collins who has worked out for Houston. Now, I do want to dive into something. Now, I do kind of want to shift my conversation, our conversation to the defensive side of the ball. I thought the defense played great, but there was a conversation we had in the offseason about a young man where I was like, “Hey, he needs to be better at, you know, with his angles and his eyes and discipline coming downhill.” And that was Kayla Bullock. And for three weeks now, all of those things has hurt the Houston Texas defense in some kind of way. Can we talk about the young man Bullock and you know how how his performances has kind of hurt this secondary who he claimed would be best secondary in the NFL this preseason. Yeah, I I thought it was a little premature. A young man coming off a fantastic rookie season. I remind everybody that Kaylin Bullock did make uh Pro Football Writers of America’s all rookie team. So, this is a guy that is acclaimed. what some five interceptions uh tied for the team lead with Stingley I believe and so if he didn’t you know I know he’s tied the lead if he didn’t have it by itself outright nonetheless uh I thought Bulock’s game would elevate just going into that sophomore season knowing how to prepare in the offseason the rigors of the NFL knowing the Miko Ryan scheme and where he would fit into that scheme and then with the addition you know you seen Kenyan Green out a bus the number 15 overall pick bust for the Texans. And then you swap him out and comes a man like CJ Garner Johnson. You would think having a player like that and his experience and his playmaking ability alongside to mentor a young man to help him be more disciplined in his eyes and his play. And Bullock thus far in 2025 is not playing. And I’m not talking about just the plays on the ball. I hearken back to the Rams game having some very bad eyes. cost him a big play uh for the LA Rams to one of their backup tight ends. I think about I think about today uh in the third quarter Bulock misses a tackle number 11 Washington wide receiver for Jacksonville picks up big yardage. So like he plays a position that’s bulock when you’re wrong. Everybody can see it, but it’s also expensive for the defense because you it gives up so many yardage and chunk plays, so much yardage and and so many chunk plays that it can make it a challenge to overcome. So Bullock, I don’t know where his health is. We know Stingley left the game and did not return today. Uh Bullock has been nicked up going back to last year. So, I don’t know where he is from a health standpoint, but he has not been playing anywhere near a commensurate level to where he was last year. I want to shout out Will Anderson. I want to shout out Kamari Lasser. Uh I I thought that, you know, you look at who balled out for Houston Sheldon Rankers by the way defensively who held that team in check for a mighty long time. The stars, some of the stars are the best players for that team on the defensive side of the ball came out for Houston, but again, it just seemed like it was not enough. Now, offensively, they struggled heavily. Defensively, they made some plays throughout the game, but overall, this team has started 0 and3 on the season. Who gets the blame? And will we see a change? Should we see a change? More like on Texas Talk on the opposite side. Texas fans, this episode is brought to you by Mazda. Moving the game forward for those who believe it’s not just about playing the game, it’s about redefining it. There are moments that do more than just put points on the board. They move crowds, move culture, and keep moving the game forward. this week’s moment that moved the game forward for the Texans who had a rough rough game. A lot of us had time watching that game. I will say this, it was good to see Nico Collins come alive. Now granted, the fumble hurt Houston when they was moving the rock and they were doing a very good job of driving downfield and it felt like they’d go down there and score and win the game, but it saw him, it looked good to see him get those 11 targets, to get those eight catches, to get that 50 yard bomb touchdown. If there was a silver lining in all of the madness and chaos that this offense has put out there on the field, I will say it was Nico Collins coming alive and doing what he does best against the Jacksonville Jaguars. I thought that was cool. That moment helped define the game or the potential of the game at that point for the Houston Texans. And I felt like, hey, they had a shot. When you follow what moves what moves you, the unexpected is only the beginning. But just like there’s more to every highlight, there’s more to a Mazda vehicle. Mazda, move and be move. And also, Texas fans, I know it was a rough day out there for us watching the game, and I get that. The Houston Texans are nowhere near where many of us thought that they would be. Now I think I Oh, I had the season starting off for Houston 2 and one opening up a year with a loss to the Rams, but they are 0 and3 standing again through three games, 24 penalties, 0 and4 in the red zone, eight of 33 on third down. These guys are not getting it done. And then we saw a little mini blow up on the sideline. Uh I missed it. You I was listening to you tell me about it. I didn’t see I saw it live and I was like is De Mo you know De Mo’s kind of cool levelheaded most of the time. He’s got a smile on but he was going off and I said is that De Mo and Nick Kane going back and forth and it wasn’t even a real back and forth. It was a that was a one-sided it was a onesided thing. He’s frustrated. You can hear it in his voice. His tone has changed a lot. I think he’s doing a good job, albeit trying to, you know, rally the truth from a coaching standpoint, but I wonder what those coaching rooms and those meetings look like for a team that had all the hope in the world. Now, Stan, Nick Cerio decided to bring in uh Nick Kane and to promote in-house with Cole Papovich. I think Cole Papovich has done a better job coaching this year than what we saw last year. And we’re not even halfway through the season. But there’s a lot of Patriot handprints on this team and is starting to stink up any chance this team has to be successful. So, do you go with Nick Katy catching the blame? Do you go with Nick Cacerio catching the blame? Do you go with Demo Ryan for catching the blame? Where are we pointing these fingers to? And do we expect to see a change? Do you expect to see a change? Well, I I think the players ultimately get most of the blame because you’re the one out there doing the activity. So CJ Strad has to be better. CJ Strad, you can’t stare down in the double coverage and put the ball, hang the ball up there. You know that. Daria Goomba, LA Rams game week one. Nico Collins, guys that are typically reliable and short-handed from, you know, a football protection standpoint. Uh those guys fumble in critical moments like those are on players. Uh Arante Ursery and not, you know, not knowing him and Woody Mars, who’s going to protect on the inside, who’s going to protect the outside, th those are players because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what the coach has called. There’s a man in front of you that’s trying to get to CJ. Y’all have to communicate. And so again, those are player penalties. Grabbing a man face mask. That’s on you. False start. That’s on you. And that’s coming from a player who hadn’t played a full season and has been in and out of Christian Harris. And for him to have that boneheaded move, I thought was just another sign of the Mico. This team is disciplined. It is. And this is three years running. And you asked me specifically. I just wanted to make sure that we add the players in there because all of those pieces that you’ve added that you alluded to there, they they’re all culpable. I probably hang the most of the blame other than the players on Nick Cacerio. I was vocal about this. You was my witness. Nick Cacerio going into this season had hit on three offensive players. Nico Collins, CJ Stra, and Tank Dale when he’s healthy. Now, since Tank Dale hadn’t been healthy a full season in his career, God bless him. I wish him well in his recovery. You got two dudes. That’s a 17% hit rate if you include Tank Dale. 17%. You got two second rounders that aren’t playing for you a whole bunch. Juice Grubs got in a little bit today and Blake Fischer was a healthy scratch who was supposed to be he was penciled in as your starter at right tackle. two guys that you traded up to go get. The John Mete experience just didn’t work out the way we all hoped it would for a myriad of different reasons. And then Kenyan Green is self-explanatory. But when you add up, you know, the the the plan, this what we going to do. We’re going to move on from a guy that’s going to be a Hall of Famer in Larry Tonsel. At least he’ll get Hall of Fame votes. We’re going to move on from him. And I’m going to convince the organization that bringing in stop gap guys, guys that were moved on from in other places, Pro Football Focus ain’t everything, John, but you know, it’s it’s it’s it’s a something. I’m not I’m not going to ignore it. Blanket Thomasson, Cam Robinson, uh Trent Brown, we haven’t seen as he battles back from injury. And who am I missing? Uh Ed Ingram, who Ed has played some good football for Houston. Ed has played probably the best of that bunch, but the bottom line is none of those guys have performed at an adequate enough level in their recent NFL careers to make you think that Cole Papovic and Kaye was going to make like I I just think the plan was flawed. But from a personnel standpoint, I point the finger at Nick Kayley the most because you’re the one that’s responsible for shopping for the groceries. And through three weeks Nicer, excuse me. Nicacio is responsible for shopping for the groceries through three weeks. It looks like other people have better ingredients than we do. And that bothers me. There was more speed. Tell me, John, I watched a Jacksonville offense. They looked more explosive. Like they wasn’t for the drops. I mean, we’re looking at a different ball game. Brian Thomas Jr. explosive. You know what you’re getting from uh uh uh Travis Travis Hunter, you know what he can do with the ball in his hand? Washington getting busy. Yeah. Like number 11 Washington. Like I saw uh DeAndre Brown, you know, he went out with injury, but I’ve seen what he’s done for them this year. I just feel like they have more guys and that’s Jacksonville. We saw what Ameabuka did in his early NFL career thus far and you know what you’re getting from from uh uh Puka Naka and Devonte Adams. So, a super long-winded way for me. John, I’ll shut up and let you do your thing. But Cacerio, it’s not enough groceries on that side of the football. This is why I go Cacerio and I’mma close out. And I’m just kind of going to repeat what I said on the squash show because I think people really got to hear I’m coming from when I say for Nikio to look at what he had in what he has in front of him. I got I’m not gonna call him a generational quarterback, but I got a franchise franchise quarterback. Yes. Right. I’ve seen this quarterback win us a game against Tampa Bay two years ago tossing five TDs. I’ve seen him make plays and he’s a gamer. I’ve seen him thrive under pressure, which is honestly been too much of that for Nick Cerio to go in this off season to say, “I’m going to roll with Nick Kayley on this. I’m going to roll with another first time play caller. I’m going to roll with a guy that I know. Was it because of the influence that you believed Sham McVey was going to have on him or was it from the comfortability that you have from him because of his Patriot days? And when we look at what we’ve seen through three weeks, it screams the comfortability from the Patriot days. I know him and I like him. Yeah, I know him. I like him and I’m comfortable with what he’s going to do because I’ve seen it work with Tom Brady. Well, Tom Brady ain’t walking through that door. They didn’t take the off season seriously enough. Ed Ingram is paying out. But Lake and Thomasson was probably one of the worst guards in the NFL last year, right? And then you’re looking at to three three games. It feels like why did you draft those receivers if they were not going to get involved into the offense because of the quoteunquote comfortability level that you have there with Nick Kaye from the Patriot games. It’s been a mistake. This offseason was a mistake. Oh, and by the way, Derel Taylor, healthy scratch for Houston came over from Chicago. A guy that really can help them from a pass rush standpoint. I said when I was doing my 53 man, it was probably some Daryl Taylor versus um Dylan Horton. It looks like Horton has one out. Horton is playing real snaps. He showed up in the snap sheet today. Didn’t I see? Yeah, he got a half a sack today. Yeah, Dylan Horton in there with half a sack. So, it’s it’s it’s been rough stand and and what I would like to do, I know we had a squad show. I want to bring you back home because we do have to close out to just look at some of the mistakes and the silver lining of good things that Houston has done to highlight where they can continue to get better and improve or just highlight where they need to absolutely move away from. In my opinion, I don’t know when, but internally does Geron Johnson start getting a little bit more involved in how they go about the offensive play calling and and u uh preparing for games. They can’t do the same thing. Like De Mo cannot allow Nick Kayley to keep doing what he’s doing. Cannot. Because if so, then now I’m looking at De Mo Ryan as a coach. And I’m thinking to myself, you’re marrying yourself to somebody who ain’t who ain’t worth it. Uh and and if it ain’t worth it, then somebody gonna be out there doing it. And uh the McNaras may be keeping eye on on all three of them. Thank y’all for watching today’s episode of the Lock on Texas Podcast. Please be sure to subscribe, like and comment on YouTube. The Houston Texans drop to 0-3 after a tough loss to the Jaguars, and it felt like they could never find their footing. Offensive struggles made Nick Caley’s unit tough to watch, rookies had little to no impact, and now the big question is: where do we point the finger—Caley, Caserio, or DeMeco Ryans?

John is joined by Stan Norfleet to break down:
🔹 Why the Texans’ offense looked flat
🔹 Whether rookie contributions are falling short
🔹 How much responsibility falls on Nick Caserio’s roster building
🔹 And if DeMeco Ryans deserves criticism this early

  1. Is Ryan on the hot seat now? This horrible to watch. Offense has no life! Are in rebuilding mode again? Is this season focus top draft pick? What happens if they lose next week? What will they say?

  2. I have been quiet in my critique of the Texans up till now, I had originally stated, "that the Texans could win 13 games this season." Base on my recent observations of the team and its issues, until the offensive elements get on the same page, we will continue to find ourselves, to be the victims of our own device. What are our issues? Penalties, play-calling, lack of offensive execution and a lack of consistency with the offense over-all. The coaches have stated the importance of establishing a running game, but that was not followed up with any consistency. If we do not improve our offense in all areas, we may find ourselves at the bottom of the division, much less competing for it.

  3. I’m tired of the feel good stories…oh wow we drafted two Iowa state receivers to go along with our other Iowa state receiver…but none of them are even close to Tank Dell…they can’t even get on the field…

  4. Why did DeMeco or the other offensive coaches not know this is the complex Patriots scheme that they are asking CJ, rookies and a bad-built OL to run? I thought they would maximize players' strengths. Too many options, no one winning their routes.

  5. I keep telling my boy over and over we need to leave all this patriots shii alone , if there is a patriots guy to hire Texans 1st in line to sign them . Can we please stop experimenting with oc and go find someone proven to already had success running a winning offense , go get Chip Kelly

  6. John.. can I just say that .. I think we need to QUIT doing it The "Patriot" Way and start doing it The Houston Texans 🤘🏻 Way….Ugh… I'm Pondering selling my Tickets for the Broncos game.. I don't want to drive 17 hours to watch us lose … 😩

  7. I think demeco has grown an ego and is being boneheaded about this and doesn’t want to look dumb for the oc hire it is also on casario for approving this hire now he’s no where to be seen they look so dumb it does CJ a disservice and if the play caller was better we’d have decent drives since this Oline is pitiful and I feel like at this point they love to self sabotage cause they been showing it for 10 years dang it enough is enough we have something good and we want to ruin it why cal ! Hannah! Do what indi owner is doing go down there and make sure there ain’t no BSing around that’s why they are 3-0 they getting things done they aren’t messing around and we aren’t ready for anyone in the nfl not even the worst team it’s Houston vs themselves every game defense can only do so much
