just about ready to roll here now. The starting pitcher in this one, Mitch Spence. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around. And we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Jose Altuve, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Next offering is in for a strike. Alt has a lot of history with the Astros. In fact, he’s played so many seasons in Houston that he’s the only player to be named an all-star in both leagues while playing for the same team. You know, boobe goes back all the way to those Astros days in the NL Central before they move to the AL West. That one misses and the count is three and one. Right through there for a strike. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Batting second. Here’s Carlos Korea. Carlos Koreah. Late swing fouled off. Headed towards the corner and a foul ball. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Altuve aboard here at first with nobody out outside. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. And downstairs. He’s trying to stay down in the zone, but the hitter just will not chase. Now back in a two- two count. He’s going to have to go to something else to get him out. This one in the dirt. Can’t connect on the curve ball. Struck him out. Well, that’s a curve ball that people like to describe as a hammer for Uncle Charlie. And you can see why. It’s not a looping slow curve. He throws it hard and it gets plenty of bite on the end. [Applause] And now Isak Paredus. I’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately. Can make it a fivegame hitting streak with a He holds it in. Two away. Dives for the bag. Got him. Double play. Back here with my pal Singi and on the mound in this one, Jason Alexander. Yeah, he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip, but he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners, put his team in a position to win a ball game. So, we know he’s prepared. We know this guy is a competitor. And we’ll watch how he works in this one. Here’s the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. [Applause] in there for a strike at the top of the zone. The pitch that one is absolutely below going his second home run of the series and they grab the lead. It’s one- nothing. You can’t ask for a better start than hitting a home run in your first at bat to give your team the lead. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage. Even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. Brent Rooker in the box now. No balls in a strike. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. That misses the zone. One and two count. Look out. And it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, Nick Curts. Definitely scuffling at the dish lately. Barely hitting over the Mendoza line this moment. Base hit that was smoked through the infield. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Left fielder Tyler Sodro. Tyler Soder Stroke up next for the A’s. Yeah, that’s too high. This might be the most pressure you put on this guy today. You got one run in. You got to try to get another one or maybe two. Well struck right field. Gone. A three-run homer. Second home run of the inning for them. And they add to their lead. It’s 4 nothing. [Applause] Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball. Excellent extension and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. Next up for the A’s, Jacob Wilson and delivers outside. Well, it’s not the inning he was planning on to begin this start, but you’ve got to find a way to shake things off and give your team some length and put up some zeros. And that misses and the count is 2 and 0. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. Next offering is in for a strike. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. A really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Two-2 now. Strike three. Got him looking on the change up. Oh, he froze him with the change up right there. And I think he was so geared up for fast ball once he recognized that it was off speed, he just wasn’t able to make an adjustment. So, a really good strike out and pitcher just won the battle. Carlos Cortez stands in now and watches strike one. Pulls that one foul. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him full. Two down, base is empty. And the batter will be the shortstop. Daryl Hern through there for a strike. Next offering is foul back. Two out. Space is empty. [Applause] Good eye right there. Really good take, especially with two strikes. [Applause] Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. And that keeps the inning going. batting eight. Catcher Willie McGiver. Here’s the catcher, Willie MacGyver. [Applause] In there for strike one. Well, they’re really running up the pitch count in this first inning. Lots of confidence from this team that is perhaps the hottest in baseball right now. [Applause] Two outs. That’s to third. They get the force. Ends the inning after they racked up a bunch of runs. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working as the A’s are on top. Major League Baseball is on the show. Top of the second. So, here’s the Astros cleanup hitter, Jesus Sanchez. For whatever reasons, this is a hitter that performs better in night games. We’ll see what he brings in this one. Spence back to work. Swinging a ground ball up the middle and it’s through for a hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Batting fifth, first baseman Christian Walker. And now it’s Christian Walker. Nice grab. Off-balance feed. There’s one and two. What a play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. And now the catcher comes up to him. Yiner Diaz singing when the year’s over, he’ll have a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. [Applause] That clips the corner and that one wrapped foul. 0 and two now. Grips one to right. Fair ball. Now he’ll turn for second and he’s in with a standup double. All over that one right there. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch and that’s how you do it. Jake Meyers up next for the Astros and a foul ball. Two outs and one in scoring position. And he grounds one to the right side. Schuman onto first. That ends the frame. So the Astros leave one. They trail it here. Four nothing. Bottom of the second. Here’s the second base, Max Schuman. Second baseman, Max Schuman. First offering and it just misses. Swings through that one. Singi wasn’t very sharp in the first. Got hit around a little bit. just wasn’t able to locate particularly well. A lot of stuff for the fat part of the plate. Yeah, Boo. He wasn’t fooling anyone. It’s a tough place to be because it’s not always obvious what adjustments need to be made. Sometimes it’s location. Sometimes it’s being too predictable. Sometimes you’re tipping your pitches. He’s going to need to figure it out quickly though. Now he breaks his bat. Altuve whips it to first on the run in time. Got him. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it. just bores in on the hands. So the lineup flips over. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. He’s already homerred here in this one. A change up missing. One and0. Out to short. Dubond to first and a couple of quick outs. Now batting third baseman Brent Rooker. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. [Applause] First pitch and he just misses. Right through there for a strike. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. keeps the attack going with a foul ball. That misses the zone and the count’s full. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Back to work. 3-2 now. stays alive. [Music] Outside and that is ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. He opted to go with the off speed stuff on that 32 with the bases empty. Close pitch, but now he’s got to work out of the stretch. [Applause] Swing a highf fly ball right field. That one back. That one on its way and it’s gone. His second homer this series. It’s 6 nothing. That was blasted. Absolutely no doubt off the bat. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Jason Alexander departs and the home run really bit him today as he exits on the hook for the loss. New arm coming on after the break. [Applause] Hunter Brown gets handed the rock out of the pen. Well, they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep this score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging it. [Music] So, two down. Tyler Soderstrom now at the plate. [Applause] There’s the strike. Base is empty. Two away, but two runs are in. And if bottom half of inning number two, [Applause] activity in the bullpen from Valdez, a lefty looks to be getting himself ready. That clips the corner. And that’s way high. The count now two and two. That’s inside. Jacob Wilson in the on deck circle for the A’s on the inside corner for called strike three. The A’s with a two-run blast. It’s now a six nothing ball game. And we’re backing off for the Zack rightfielder Zack Cole. Cole in his rookie season in the eighth spot in today’s lineup and he was a 10th round pick in 2022. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. I can’t play around with him here. It’s a six-run lead at this point. Got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot. Next pitch is outside. Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. Line drive, base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Everything came together for him. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did, and he did it perfectly. Here’s Mauricio Dubon. Swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can forget it. That one felt good and they’re chipping away. It’s 62. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. So the Houston lineup turns over. Here’s the former MVP, Jose Altuve. Up the middle, base hit. That was smoked through the infield. Now batting designated hitter Carlos Korea. And here comes Carlos Koreah. His first at bat was a strikeout. Koreah, the former first overall pick from Puerto Rico back in 2012. but he blossomed into the American League Rookie of the Year in 2015. Yeah, there’s the strike. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. And there’s a base hit to left. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Third baseman Isach Paredus. Isach Paredus up next for the Astros. He’s 0 for one. And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] That one fouled off. swings and misses. It’s a strike out. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. Two on with one out. Jesus Sanchez up next for the Astros. One for one with a single so far. There’s the strike. [Applause] On the ground. A second. Might be two. There’s one over to first, but it’s offline. Well, they had the chance of turning two right there, but I don’t think he got a good grip on the ball as he tried to transfer from glove to throwing hand. They say you can’t assume a double play. I beg to differ at the big league level, but it’s going to be ruled as a fieldielder’s choice. And next to hit for Houston, Christian Walker. And that’s in there for strike one. Runners on first and third. Two away. Swang and a line drive. And that’s a base hit into right field. One run is in. Now the throw comes in. Runner holds it third. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. So, two on with two away. Yer Diaz getting ready to hit. Doubled his first time. Gets the outside corner with that one. Sanchez the runner at third. Walker on at second with two down. That one missed [Applause] and a pop off right side foul territory. Kurts makes the play and that is that. So they get three runs, five hits, no errors, but two are left stranded. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the A6 and the Astros three as we go to the last of the third leading off Jacob Wilson. This guy makes great contact, one of the best in the game at putting bat on ball. He’s got such quick hands and he’s gaining pitch recognition that keeps him square to the plate and there’s a good chance that his bat stays in the zone a long time and that produces solid contact consistently. Diaz makes the grab. One away. Now batting the right fielder Carlos Cortez. Now it’s the right fielder Carlos Cortez. He struck out swinging at his first at outside low and it’s one and0 and there’s a ball. One out. Base is empty. [Applause] just missed. That’s good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Close pitch there, but you got to forget about that call if you’re out on the mound. You can’t let it affect you going forward. You got to get out of the inning first and then if you want to be frustrated, take it out in the dugout. That one drilled left field. Makes the grab. Two down. Now batting catcher Willie Macyver. And here’s the catcher Willie MacGyver. That’s outside. Ball one. That’s a ball. [Applause] Just missed. Well, I would expect in this three- 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. And ball four, two aboard. Not what he wanted to do right there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive. puts a runner into scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. Max Schuman up next for the A’s. Grounded out his first time off. Up and in. And that is ball one. two walks in the inning already and he just doesn’t seem comfortable out there. Like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them. That one ripped. Get out of town. So he goes yard to left and they tack on three. It’s 93. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Sigy, I hope you saw it because it didn’t stay in the air for long. No, it didn’t, dude. Statcast telling us 110 mph off the bat. That’s plenty to hit one out if you get enough air under it. As a hitter, you hardly feel the ball when you make contact as solid as he did right there. [Applause] Butler at the plate and takes high there. Oh boy. No. And the one tap foul at the plate. Two gone. Base is empty. But three runs across here in the last half of the third. This one smashed down the right field line. And it goes just fouled. [Music] [Applause] Swing and a ball lifted left field. Sanchez and the inning is over. Three-run shot for the A’s. It’s now 93. And welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the top of the fourth. And stepping in for the Astros, Jake Meyers. And that’s fouled off. Swing and a ground ball out to short. Slings to first. One up, one down. Now batting right fielder Zack Cole. Zack Cole up next for the Astros. Singled and scored his first time. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. Ball one low. And that one pulled foul and there’s a fly ball deep right field and in one hops the wall around first and hustling for second. Not stopping. He’s going for three. The relay throw and he’s out. Absolutely perfect execution of the relay right there to cut it down to third. He probably should have shut it down at second base and been happy with the double, but it took a great play to get him. You just have to tip your cap. [Applause] Mauricio Dubon up next for the Astros. Right through there for a strike. The shorts stop takes a ball. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. The 1-1 is fouled off. Highfly ball out to left field. Sodrom on his way over, pulls it down and he makes the catch. And that is that. Bottom four. Down to third base. Brent Rooker. Third baseman Brent Rooker, baby. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. You know, these A’s really impressed me with the quality of their at bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see him go to work. Everything is clicking. And when you’re producing more than two runs an inning, it’s pretty obvious your hitters came to do some damage. Obviously, this type of run production isn’t exactly sustainable game to game, but it’s a good sign that a lot of hard work’s been paying off. Next offering is in the dirt line drive and that’s a base hit to right and the lead off man aboard with that fast ball. Even though it’s high velocity, you’ve got to live on the outer edges. When it’s right on a tee, right down the middle, professional hitters are not going to have a problem turning it around. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. He’s already homerred in this game. And a strike on the outside edge. [Music] lifted in the air right field. Cole has a beat on it and there’s one down. Maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit. Couldn’t quite barrel it up enough to really drive it. Now batting left fielder Tyler Sodstrom. Now the left fielder Tyler Soderstrom. Pitch misses. One and0. Brooker stands at first with one out. comes up empty. That’s strike two. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. And a ball evens the count. [Applause] And ball four two aboard. Pretty good pitch on 3-2. Right around the knees, but just no help from the betting. Designated hitter. First and second, one out. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. Go for two in this one. And that misses ball one. The A’s looking to add another. [Music] That one missed. He’s great hitting the ball the other way. And that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Outside and now three and 0. [Music] Laser could be trouble and that’s going to get into the corner. Coming home. One run across. Coming home. Play at the plate. Got him. Pretty close play at the plate right there. Always an exciting one though. And a really nice job by the defense to cut him down. It’s pretty big blow to a team when you lose a potential run that was so close to getting in there. manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Astros bullpen. Hunter Brown won’t go any further tonight and he’s responsible for the runner on second so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. The Astros turn to a new arm of the mound. Prober Valdez Valdez. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. He tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. So a man aboard now it’s going to be Carlos Cortez. He is struck out and he is walked to the right side. Altuve slings to first. They limit the damage here. So they pick up a run on two hits. No errors and a man left. We played four. It’s the A’s 10. Yeah. The Astros three. And we’re back. Top five. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Jose Altuve. Overated. [Applause] Spence back to work. That misses the zone and it’s one and0. One and0. Pop foul out of play off to the right. They say it went one ball, two strikes. Foul ball still a one and two count. Swang and a miss. Struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Now batting now up to him. One for two. just missed. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the fifth. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. in the air right side. Cortez sizing this one up. That’s out number two. Now batting third baseman, Isach Pedes. Two outs. Space is empty. Isak Paredus digs in now. [Music] There’s a strike. And that’s in there for a strike. And quickly nothing at two. just misses with that one. Hit softly on the ground left side. Hurry, hurry. That’s the third out. Astros are down quietly. Not what they were looking for. It’s 10 to three. Bottom of the inning. And now the shorts stop. Daryl Hern. And the first pitch misses for ball one. You know, these athletics digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far. And that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well. Now batting the catcher, Willie. So a man at first, Willie Macgyver up next for the A’s. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. First pitch just misses. Hern gets his lead at first with nobody out. Foul ball there. Got him swinging. That right there is one of those breaking balls that you swing through and you feel like you should have done something with it or at least spoiled it away. But when it’s breaking in on you like that, if the spin is tight enough, it can actually tie you up. So digging in Max Schuman hit and that gives the top of the zone for a strike. Man at first, one away. Swings through that. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. Not close with that one. Going to count one and two. O2 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. [Applause] Almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. Well, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the lead off single. Backto back strike out. Soler. They haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. Butler stands in with two away as he takes a ball. The Athletics up big in this one. Last half of inning number five. In the air on the infield, Paradis brings it in and that’ll do it. The A’s strand one, but they still lead by seven. It’s 103. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the left fielder, Jesus Sanchez. Sanchez, 27 years old, and they traded for him earlier this year. The Athletics have some bullpen action. JT Gin, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. Number 49, also throwing. That’s too low. Two and0. [Music] That’s in for a strike. Nasty pitch in today’s game. Not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with that. Misses the zone. And now three balls and a strike. That one in there across the letters looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Battling here as he fouls it away. cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Good late cut for the strikeout there. That thing really got in on him. And you know, the cutter isn’t really a huge swing and miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact, but that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. And first offering is fouled off. The Astros with a lot of ground to make up. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Off the mark there at one and one late that time. And it’s strike two. One ball, two strikes. Got it. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Diaz, two down, base is empty. So next up for Houston, Yiner Diaz. That’s in there. That’s strike one and one. That’s a ball. And that misses off the outside edge. Hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Up next for the manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Mitch Spence is done and a decent effort considering he’s normally a reliever. Back with the new pitcher in a minute now number 58 comes on now. And you know bullpen guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game. So, we’ll see how sharp he is. Your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well. And next to hit for Houston, Jake Meyers has grounded out a couple of times. Fast for a strike. Diaz leads off first with two down to the inning. Now a screamer into the outfield and that is that. So a strong showing here from the A’s bullpen. 234 do up in the home half of the six. It’s the A’s 10. Yeah, the Astros three. Bottom of the sixth inning. Here’s the third baseman, Brent Rooker. That one catches the corner for a strike. At bat can be a little bit of a dance strike one here, but few more pitches. We’ll see how it turns out. Sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Oh, just a total nightmare for lefties. I’d be very surprised to see that match up again. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. Now Nick Curts just missed. That’s hard hit on the line. Full extension. Makes the catch. That diving catch right there is the kind of play that just fires up the team. Whether it’s to make more great defensive plays or to get back in the dugout and swing the sticks. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom. Need a hit here on the ground to third. Might be two. One at second. Throw to first. Safe. [Applause] Now that is designated hitter, Jacob Wilson. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. And that’s outside and that’s ball one. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. When you look at the elite teams in the game right now, there is going to be the slug. No question about it. But the really good offensive teams combine slug with more contact with less swing and miss. Two outs. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. And Chris, beyond the fact that he’s so incredible defensively, he also can swing the stick. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Waves at the bender for the strikeout. So they can’t do anything with the leadoff single there. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the A’s 10 and the Astros three. And we’re back. Top of inning number seven. Now at the plate, Zack Cole. And that is out of play. Here comes the one. And that one is inside. Baby, let’s go. Popped up. [Applause] One away. Now batting shortstop, Mauricio. And stepping in for the Astros, Mauricio Dubon. Fast for a strike. [Applause] Off the plate. Paul one. Next offering is fouled back. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. Next pitch is outside. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And it remains two and two. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the offspe pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Strike three. Got him with the sweeper. Now batting Joseuve. First pitch misses. Fast ball is outside into the outfield base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it right on time. Good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. Well, now here’s Carlos Kareah with a chance to hit that just misses. And that’s ball one. Two outs. [Applause] So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Music] Next offering is outside. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. fouled off and they’ll do it again. That misses. Three and two now. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. Foul ball and it remains a full count. And a foul ball. He stays alive. About to see the 11th pitch of the Abat here. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. And that ball is out of here. Carlos Koreah will circle the bags. It’s 105. The cutter up and in can be such a tough pitch for the hitters. You have to keep your hands above the baseball and that’s exactly what he did. He caught it out front and drove it out of here. Yeah, the batter now, Isach Paradus. And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] And that one upstairs. Ball one. [Music] [Applause] hit on the ground to short. Hernese tosses to first and that is the inning. Two-run shot for the Astros this inning. It’s down to five at 105 now. Back after this on the show. set for the last half of the seventh. And now it’s going to be Carlos Cortez. Carlos Cortez. Hot shot to third and the leadoff hitter set down to open the seventh. Now batting shorts stop Daryl Hern. And now Daryl Hernese on the inside corner for a strike baby. The shorts stop takes the ball. One and two now. And that’s in the dirt [Applause] inside. Almost got him. swing and a popup and that’s a fair ball. [Applause] That’s right. All right. Now batting the catcher man at first up next for the A’s. And that one fouled off. And there’s a foul ball. Hern the base runner at first with one out. On the ground. Two ball. Walker to second. Return throw to first. Got him. Double play. And that’ll do it. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the A’s 10 and the Astros five. Now P. They hand the ball over to a new arm, JT. And he’s had a struggle so far this year. As you can see the inflated looking to bring that down a little bit right here. Now the left fielder Jesus Sanchez one for three. Little bit low. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. There’s a swing and a drive and one hops off the wall. should be extra bases and that’s a leadoff double. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling when you connect and it jumps off your bat like that. You’re thinking double at the very least. Put a great swing on it and man, he wasn’t fooled at all. So, next up for Houston, Christian Walker. And that drops in for a strike. If you’re going to get something going, this is the time to do it. You get the leadoff man on. Everybody’s got to look over the shoulder and say, “I’m just going to keep the line moving.” Don’t try to do too much. And that’s outside. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Elvis Alvarado up and throwing. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And that one ripped into right. And foul ball. Just missing there. And it’s two and two. Close pitch there. And he’s kind of wondering where it missed. You know, getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from at bat to at bat. In the air, left field down the line, lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. And they’re at the corners with nobody out. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. So, runners at the corners, nobody out. At the plate is the Astros catcher, Yiner Diaz. That pitch gets the inside corner. And that is strike one. Runners on the corners. No outs. And it’s fouled away. That one hit to right and it gets into the seats. Well, he missed a hitable off speed pitch right there. Not sure exactly what the timing. Sometimes you get a backup breaking ball, you’re expecting it to make its move at the end. It never does and you’re tied up. Go, baby. Let’s go. This one in the air. [Applause] And there’s one down. Two on with one out and next to hit for Houston. Jake Meyers 0 for three in this one. And there’s the strike. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. First and third, one down. Let’s go to baby. Ground ball left side. Could be two to second for one. And it’s a double play to end the inning. So, no runs on two base hits, no errors, and one left. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. It’s the A’s 10 and the Astros five. And welcome back to the ballpark. The batter, Max. Max Schuman. [Applause] Valdez back to work. Swing and a miss. Strike one. And that one missing low. [Applause] [Music] out to short. Dubond to first and that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the center fielder Lawrence Butler. Now, here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. And that’s off the inside edge. One and0 out of line out towards center. Meyers pulls it in on the run. That was just a great jump and route to the ball. Well, it had to be. If he was going to cover all that ground and bring in that sinky liner, that’s the way it had to be done. Nice job. Two out, space is empty. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Pitch misses there. Ball one. 10 ground ball up the middle. A sliding stop at short. Throw to first and it beats him. What a play. Nothing doing there for the A’s. They still lead it though 105. And we’re back. And now the right fielder, Zack Cole. Gin in his rookie season, 25 years old and he was a second round pick in 2020. [Applause] That one drifts inside. Action in the pen down there. Elvis Alvarado, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. Number 49, a hardthrowing right-hander up as well. [Applause] pulled hard, but it’s a foul ball [Applause] and he swings over the top there. He has a tendency to chase out of the zone and that slider that’s down, that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Up next for the Astros, Mauricio Dub. Up next for the Astros, [Applause] but a short stop. Takes a ball. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Ripped in the air, left field, and touchdown for a base hit. And now the lineup turns over with one away. Hey, whatever works, right? Doesn’t have to be impressive. There are a lot of nicknames people attach to hits like that. Blooper, flare, ducks, snort, lawn dart, etc. But whatever you want to call it, it’s a knot. And those are the ones that’ll make you smile as a hitter just about every time. And now Jose Altuve. That one misses. And that is ball one. [Applause] That one to first and it stays fair coming home. Tag and he’s out at the play. That really hurts right there. This is no time to gamble. When you’re down in the bubble game, you got to be sure if you’re going to advance a run or even try to score right there that you’re going to be safe. Just a poor decision. Astros down to their last out. Carlos Koreah up next for the Astros. Going to one. [Applause] Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the ninth [Applause] swing and he breaks his bag and that’ll do it. The A’s slug their way to a win in this one. These hitters had the long ball working for him today. Four home runs had a lot to do with them coming out on top. And your final 10 to five. The A’s are victorious for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shi saying so long. Unbelievable.
