From someone who goes over the X’s and O’s and pays attention to the All-22 [@PancakesSoul]

I think it’s an interesting perspective that should be discussed since everyone looks to put all the blame on Petzing.

Well said. I’m f’n sick of Kyler “Checkdown” Murray. Dude has no vision down the field. Literally & figuratively.
Crazy because it seemed like Kyler threw 10 comeback routes a game to D-hop, to the left side of the field which is a harder throw.
What if it’s not so much about Kyler choosing to make those throws as it is him being coached to take the easy dump off unless the down the field stuff is wide open?
In both the second and third games this season we’ve seen the down the field throws be made for a series or two – are we to believe Kyler just picks drives in games to make those throws or is it Petzing taking off the handcuffs for a series or two instead.
This coaching staff wants to play it safe with ball control and defense… maybe that’s because of limitations with what Murray can do or maybe it’s because that’s their philosophy as a staff. I think it’s the latter.
This is what I was worried about, Gannon said hes fine with the playcalling, that leaves few options and the most likely is K1 isnt seeing the routes or isnt willing to let it rip to them. If thats the case I see why Gannon would stick with his coach while also not throwing anyone under the bus.
Guess we see if they ever bench him for Jacoby and if he outplays Kyler, thats the ultimate test. Unfortunate since I like K1 and he can make literally every throw, but if hes choosing not to thats horroble.
He’s made them in the past, he used to live out there.
My thought in the last few years is that he has zero trust with these guys on the outside. To be in the right spot or to make the catch.
Would be curious to see what the numbers look like in those zones when throwing to wide receivers in that timeframe.
Isn’t this the guy who said a few days ago kyler should have thrown to a double coverage mhj instead of mcbride for a gain because the linebacker waiting to pick makes his break AFTER kyler threw the ball? Like I’m not going to say he’s wrong because i haven’t watched the all 22, but I’m gonna take anything he says with a grain of salt
Except that he threw a fair amount downfield in the second half, just not necessarily on comeback routes, so clearly it’s a playcalling issue. JC goes down, Petzing realizes he’s gotta air it out, and then they have success whenever receivers decide to actually catch the ball.
He’s not just making dump off throws when Petzing takes the training wheels off (the rare time that he does). TD to Wilson week 2, deep shot to Marv week 1 all indicate that it’s a playcalling issue. They just aren’t doing it enough and receivers aren’t hanging on when they do
Posting this a day after he hit a bunch of deep routes but most of them were dropped is comical.
Maybe part of it is that Kyler doesn’t trust his WRs much right now.
On the play after his drop, MHJ stopped short for some reason. Looked like he just gave up on the route when the CB pressed him.
Not saying there isn’t truth in what he’s saying but I would love to see some screenshots or clips of the type of plays he’s referring to.
These social media film watchers often time come up with a narrative but then an actual former NFL player watches the same film and has a different opinion.
Nah I’m callin bullshit on this
The reason our offense sucks is cause Kyler isn’t throwing curls?
“Once again, trust me bro”
Yeah, I’ll trust the experts not some couch potato.
The offensive progression/regression really doesnt make any sense to me, kyler went from not throwing to the middle of the field in favor of deep shots + comeback/curls outside of the hashmarks under kirk to underneath drag/swing + middle of the field hitch/seam + very rare deep shots.
Kyler has the arm to make every NFL throw, we’ve seen it before under KK with DHop and seems to have become more comfortable throwing to the middle of the field, which is something short QBs have all struggled with historically, but somehow he forgot how to throw it to the outside?????
Outside of Petzing’s inability to use the run game to set up the passing game, i think its much more likely that kyler just doesnt trust any of our WRs to run those curl/comebacks on time and/or not drop the ball(which is hard to blame him for after this niners game).
Time to move on from Kyler….hes a great athlete who’s just not great quarterback
Always with the scenarios.
This is just some guy FYI. When things are close in the 4th the offense opens up. Dont know if its playcalling, kyler, or bit of both. Definitely the way we run the offense changes at later points in the game and its not just because the defense starts playing prevent or something.
Just because someone pays $15/mo doesn’t mean they know how to break it down correctly
Yeah, I’m not going to trust anything written with this level of English ineptitude.
this guy has absolutely no clue what he is talking about 😂
