Kyle Connor Wants to STAY with the Winnipeg Jets

[Music] What’s going on everybody and welcome back to another video. We’re back at another Winnipeg Jets season 2526 has arrived and we got some things to talk about this week and we’re going to be starting off with the Kyle Connor situation. Obviously, Kyle Connor is on the last year of his deal and will need a new contract before next season if he is to remain a Winnipeg Jet. And you know, it was pretty radio silence over the summer with uh Connor’s contract as it was for a lot of things. It was a very boring off season. And uh that kind of you know, worried me with the lack of information that was coming out. some reports came out that, you know, Connor was going to keep all options open, as I would expect he would, but it kind of scared me a little bit because it made me think, okay, well, he’s open to leaving. And, you know, it’s not to say he isn’t, but it seems like his preference right now is to certainly stay in Winnipeg. And, uh, you know, that’s a huge relief because, you know, it’s got to be one or the other. Keep him or trade him, right? You can’t lose that guy for nothing. And in a year where the Jets are going to try to win, obviously it would be a big distraction if they were to have to trade arguably their best player. The news has come out as of late as Darren Dger has reported that Kyle Connor his preference is to stay in Winnipeg. So, you know, it’s coming from Drager. Drager is pretty plugged in when it comes to the Winnipeg Jets. If you don’t know that, uh, you know, kind of trust what Drager says. He’s usually bang on. You know, he’s obviously got a pretty good source in the Jets organization. Jets keep things pretty quiet. You know, you don’t even see Elliot Friedman usually have a pretty good grasp on the Jets. You know, he might speculate a few things and read the tea leaves, but you know, he’s never really getting a hold like Drager is. So, Drager reporting that, you know, Connor could be looking at in and around the Miko Ranton and Mitch Marner deal. That’s a $12 million deal, right, over the eight years. Um, you know, that could certainly happen. Uh, one thing that Freriedman and a league executive said though was that don’t be surprised if Kyle Connor is the league’s highest paid winger right now. Uh, you know, the two highest paid were the guys that I just talked about, Ranton and Mner, they are the two highest paid wingers in the NHL. Expecting the contract comes in around that. It wouldn’t shock me if he gets paid maybe, you know, 12 and a half, maybe even 13. I could definitely see that. And the reason I say that is because you know you look at where Ranton and Ed Marner have signed those are in no tax states right so don’t be surprised maybe if Kyle Connor looks for a little bit extra or his agent does at least you know to kind of cover those costs right as obviously uh you know Vegas no tax state Dallas very low tax state and uh you know that plays a factor in negotiations so we’ll see if Kyle Connor does indeed become the highest paid winger but I wouldn’t imagine it’s any less than $12 million and I think it will be slightly above in the end. It doesn’t change much for his negotiation, I don’t think, but it is something to watch. Uh, you know, Carrill Capri off obviously turning down an 8-year $16 million AAV deal, which would have made him the highest paid winger by $4 million in the NHL. And uh, you know, that was pretty crazy to see that get turned down. Obviously, Capri off and the Wild still have ongoing negotiations. We’ll see if that gets done. Uh but you know it’s something to watch for sure because you know if Capriovv gets done at 16 does that make Kyle Connor say hey you know maybe I want 14 maybe I want 14 and a half right I don’t know if the Jets necessarily go there I think this is you know a big change in the league I think you know a lot of teams are you know kind of figuring out how to deal with all of this right now with the cap rising in the next couple of seasons as much as it is and you know the Jets two top players right now that are signed for you the most cap are Shley and Hellbeck at eight and a half and there’s there goes Kyle Con Connor zooming by them right with you know what’s projected to be between you know 12 and $13 million here in the future. So it’s just crazy how fast this has all happened and uh you know it’s a big change in the NHL but it’s one that you know is going on right now. The Shifley and Hellbuck deals right now look like absolute steals, right? They’re milking that out. Even if these guys regress, I mean 8 and a half, that’s not going to be too much money in a couple of years here in the NHL. So, it’s just crazy how this is all going down. But something to watch with the Capri off situation. I don’t necessarily think it changes too much in Connor’s case. I think that, you know, 13 probably the max for him. Uh but we’ll see, right? Something to watch. I don’t necessarily think this is, you know, going to happen, but if Kyle Connor does end up saying, “Hey, you know what? We can’t come to an agreement if something does fall apart,” you know, the Jets really don’t have a choice but to move him mid-season. It’d be kind of like the Ranton situation. I talked a little bit about this, you know, early on in the summer. Uh, you know, if he didn’t want to resign, I wasn’t really sure what was going on at that time. Everything was pretty radio silent, but it does kind of seem like at this point his preference would be to stay. Uh, I still think it gets done, but if it doesn’t, the Jets are going to have to make a pretty big decision here. Uh, you know, they can’t use him as a one-year UFA self- rental. They did that with Nikolai Eers. You know, I know they tried to move him last summer. That’s been confirmed. The Jets tried to trade Eers for Martin Niches, but he would not sign long-term, so the deal fell apart, and the Jets ended up keeping Eers as a one-year rental. Doesn’t kind of seem like, you know, Connor’s going anywhere. Um, you know, it doesn’t seem like there’s been any reports of the Jets putting his name out there. Seems like everything is going to get done. So, that’s really nice to see. I really do expect this deal to get done. I wouldn’t shock me if it’s done before the regular season. I believe the last contract that Kyle Connor signed was, you know, right before the regular season started as well. So, you know, wouldn’t be too much of a shock if, you know, we get to where we are right before the regular season and the two sides just decide to agree. Uh, I don’t see this one being prolonged. It seems like everything is good. Everybody’s happy. Seems like Kyle Connor is going to be here for a while. And if it is between, you know, 12 and 13 million, yeah, that’s a lot of money right now. In a few years, truthfully, down the line, like that deal might not really hurt the Jets whatsoever. Like, you see these long-term deals for a lot of players and, you know, they age and aren’t worth that money anymore. But with how much this cap is going up in the next couple of years, I don’t know if this really necessarily hurts the Jets long term either. And I don’t think it’s a bad investment. Obviously, you’re not seeing a lot of younger players right now signing long-term deals. Uh, you know, Cole Perfetti, one of them, because they don’t want to miss that cap boom, right? They want to cash in. Right now, if the Jets can cash in on Kyle Connor, um, you know, that’d be great, right? So, that’s what I believe is going to be happening here. As I’ve stated before, believe he’s going to reup and, uh, just a really interesting cap situation league round right now. But, I think the Jets are in a pretty good spot right now. the narrative that no one wants to play in Winnipeg might soon die out. Bad day for everyone else in the league. But, you know, Kyle Connor resigning, you know, that’s an NHL superstar if you know he’s going to sign sign longterm again. Like that’s pretty incredible uh to get to keep a guy like that. Obviously Connor Hella, Mark Chely done it in the past. Josh Morrisy um you know recently all these guys that have reuped, Alex Aafalov, Vladimnikov, Nonita signing that extension. Uh, you know, I’m definitely forgetting guys. Neil Peon, you know, Dylan Samberg wanted more of a long-term deal, only got the three, but, you know, wanted to be here longer. Uh, you know, countless other guys on this team. Hey, you know, it’s it’s a dead narrative at this point, especially if Connor does uh, you know, sign the papers here in the near future. I believe he will. And, uh, yeah, just something something to chew on there. But that’s all I got today, guys. Thank you so much for watching. As always, what do you guys think? Are you happy with a Kyle Connor extension with the price that it’s probably going to be at around 12 to$13 million? Do you think he should be the highest paid winger in the NHL? Let me know down below. I want to hear your thoughts. Leave a like and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already, and I’ll see you guys in the next one. Go. Bye-bye.

Kyle Connor is on the last year of his existing deal, and will need a new contract before next season. Luckily for the Jets, it appears that he would prefer to stay in Winnipeg long term.

  1. I hope he signs with us again. He is fantastic winger with an amazing shot that shootout goal on April 12, 2025 against the Blackhawks is so clean and effortless. It's one of my favorite goals by Kyle Connor. It's going to stay in my memory banks.
