these CHANGES we’re DESPERATELY NEEDED for the NEW YORK RANGERS…
Heading into this upcoming season, I think it is pretty evident that the New York Rangers are, of course, going to be looking to get right back into the mix of things and make the playoffs and potentially go on a bit of a playoff run. And I know there are lots of Rangers fans that definitely have their kind of questions and worries about this team. And that’s all fair, but at the end of the day, I do think this team is built in a much better way compared to when they were last in the playoffs, for example, when they went all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals and lost in game six to the eventual Stanley Cup champions in the Florida Panthers back in the 2023 24 season. And also since they were last in playoffs, this team has also made a pretty massive change with the coaching staff by of course going out there and adding in Mike Sullivan, a multi-time Stanley Cup winning coach of course at the NHL level. He’s been a very good coach for a very long time. Of course, he’s had a lot of roles with Team USA at certain events. So, he’s obviously a very good experienced veteran head coach and he has won multiple Stanley Cups. He’s won the ultimate goal there for the Rangers. So I think bringing in a good experienced coach like that seems to make a lot of sense and you could definitely say is an improvement over Peter Lavlet and his crew as you know the team also went out there and added in a guy like David Quinn for an assistant job which I think is a pretty great move. Obviously he may not be the best NHL head coach. But I do think David Quinn in an assistant role can do a pretty great job honestly. So I think at the end of the day the coaching staff has been upgraded since last season there. And then you also take a look at the roster and kind of compare it to the last time the Rangers were in the playoffs or you know at the beginning of last regular season. I think this Rangers team roster-wise is built in a much better way. Not only kind of talent-wise but also you know for the playoffs there. You take a look at guys like Gavov, a Will Borggan, a JT Miller. I think those three players in specific are very very impactful players for the playoffs. And I think those guys would have made a pretty drastic difference with this Rangers team if they were on the team. You know, the last time they were in the playoffs there going up against the Florida Panthers. So, I really do think this Rangers team with the way it’s built right now is a lot better suited for the playoffs there, especially to go up against a team like Florida who’s going to be a very big, tough, physical team. And I’m sure if you’ve watched them in the playoffs over the last, you know, few years now, of course, the last while, you know, they’re that big, tough, physical, talented team, though. They’re not just physical and big and tough. They’re also very talented. So, I think the Rangers, you know, have some solid talent. I’m not saying they’re as talented as the Panthers. They’re an incredible, incredible team. But I just think with the way this team is built right now by adding in guys like JT Miller, he’s got that toughness, two-way play style there, great offensively, great defensively, but you know, was a good leader. He’s a tough player. a gritty guy, plays with a lot of energy, physicality. You add in a guy like Gabricov, another big shutdown kind of guy. Of course, you add in a Will Borggan, another just solid or reliable, you know, somewhat physical defenseman. I really do think those guys in particular, especially though, Gabberov and JT Miller are really big difference makers. And, you know, would have been if they were with this team at the last time they were in the playoffs, they’re up against the Panthers. So, I really do think not only, you know, coaching wise, now has this team made an upgrade, but also they have definitely made some major upgrades since the last time this team was in the playoffs there roster-wise. So, I really do think this team is built in a much better way to compete and possibly actually go out there and maybe win that cup. And at the end of the day, it’s going to be really tough to get past the Eastern Conference Finals, even if they get there somehow, because as of right now, the Panthers don’t seem to be getting any worse really. So, they’re still the absolute wagon of a team. They still seem to be, at least in my opinion, the top team right now in the NHL heading into this upcoming season. So, I really do think they’re obviously still a powerhouse of a team, but this Rangers team, I think, is built in a better way now to actually take them down potentially. And I’m not saying that if they went up against them right now in a sevename series, they would be able to do that. But I am saying this team is much better built compared to where they were kind of last time they met the Panthers in the playoffs. So, I do think the upgrades and moves they’ve made have been pretty smart. Chris Dre, for the most part, I think has made some good moves there. We obviously have seen a lot of trades, a lot of signings. And, you know, now let’s kind of take a look at some of those moves though and kind of really see which players have kind of left and come to this team since the beginning of last regular season. So, starting off here with the trades, we have the Rangers making their first one of last regular season, and that was, of course, Jacob Trouba getting sent over with his $8 million cap, which does now have one more season left on it, just this upcoming one for oo back in who ended up signing a two-year extension with the Rangers with a $1.55 million capit. And then also, the Rangers got back a fourth round pick in this draft. Then the Rangers go out there and not too long after that, a couple weeks later, they go out there and trade away Capo Ko, the former second overall pick over to the Seattle Kraken for Will Borggan, of course, who also got a nice little extension there. A 5-year deal with a cap hit of $4.1 million per season, which I do think is a very nice contract for the Rangers. It’s not like one of the top five kind of team friendly deals in the entire NHL, but it definitely is a pretty quality one. You take a look at the kind of deals like guys like even like Ryan Lingren and Cody Cece got. Then you take a look also in the deal though the Rangers got back a third and sixth round pick in the 2025 draft. And next up though we see the Rangers make a massive trade with the Vancouver Conucks as they go out there and ship off Philip Pedle Victor Mancinia prospect and a firstrounder in 2025 for JT Miller Jackson Dorington and Eric Bransstrom. So this was of course a massive trade that happened there and has definitely kind of really changed this team quite a bit I think as of course now this has become the new captain JT Miller of course the 29th captain in Rangers franchise history and I am really hoping he can kind of use some of his leadership skills in a very good way and really kind of help be a part of the kind of full reset and kind of just turnound of this Rangers’s team. The next trade they go up there and make is another pretty big one though. This one of course near the trade deadline with the Colorado Avalanche as the Rangers send away Ryan Lingren, Hank Kemp, a low tier defense prospect and Jimmy VC for Yuso Parsonsin, Calvin Dhon and a second and fourth round pick. And of course I think this trade was also a you know smart trade there. It made a lot of sense. You get back a couple draft picks there. Some pretty good ones of course being a second and fourth. Not bad at all. They also you know got back Calvin Han. He ended up leaving. Of course, there was all that kind of drama that went down with him behind the scenes, and maybe he should have played a little more, but that’s not the talk for now, of course. But, you know, Yuso Parson has ended up becoming a potential kind of third line center for this team. He’s still in his mid20s now. He’s got a little more upside. Maybe I think at best can be a, you know, solid kind of third line center, but you definitely has a little more room to grow potentially in his game. So, if he can do that, I guess that’s great and all, but at the end of the day, I think getting back those picks were the kind of main part of this trade. And it definitely made a lot of sense there to move off of Ryan Lingren. And of course, Jimmy VC was, you know, a quality player for a good amount of time for this team, but definitely did not have a huge role with the team. Then they go out there and a little after that, they make the trade with the Las Vegas Golden Knights, of course, sending away Riley Smith for a third round pick and Brendan Bissell. Then they go out there and make that trade which they sent away that exact same third round pick they got back from the Vegas Golden Knights and they ship that off to the Canucks for Carson Susi which of course hasn’t quite worked out the best but I do hope he can definitely be a whole lot better throughout this upcoming season than what he did with the team throughout last season once he did join the team. Then we see, of course, heading into this off seasonason, we start to see a couple pretty massive trades happen with Chris Crryder going over to the Anaheim Ducks alongside a fourth round pick for Carrie Terren. A pretty solid center prospect to a guy. Got a physical game there. You know, plays with some energy, toughness, physicality. You’d definitely like to see that side of game of course and then also a third round pick. So the Rangers move up in the draft a bit there getting a third for a fourth and also get back prospect Carrie Terren at center for Chris Krider who of course carried that 6.5 million capit. And then the most recent deal we’ve got here of course is the pretty big one between the Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes as the team went out there and signed and traded Keandre Miller to a eight-year deal with a $7.5 million cap and sent him over in that trade to the Carolina Hurricanes which the Rangers got back. Scott Morrow and a first and second round pick. And I’ll be honest, three, four years down the road, it would not shock me in the slightest if Scott Morrow was a better player than Keandre Miller. I’m not going to dive too much into that, but how good some of the moves that the Rangers have made actually are. And, you know, at the end of the day, we’re going to have to wait and see how these players actually kind of gel together, how they connect, whether they can build that chemistry or not together and actually perform like a, you know, top tier kind of team. But I do think they have some pretty great talent now. They’ve got a phenomenal goalie. They’ve got, you know, a true number one caliber defenseman. They’ve got another top pairing caliber guy in Gaverov now, which we have been lacking for quite some time. This team went out there and I think added in some solid depth in certain areas as well. They’ve added in some more talent there. I mean, a guy like JT Miller, you got him for a full off seasonason now, a full season. He’s going to be the captain. We’ve got that whole kind of reset with the leadership group and you know, obviously, yes, Zabanage, Adam, and Panaran are still a part of it and stuff like that. I get that. But you’ve still got your new captain now who’s going to hopefully take this team in a whole different direction with his kind of leadership ability and play style and skill and all that kind of stuff. So I think this team has made a lot of really good moves and all of them have not been perfect by no means. I mean the Carson Susie deal for example is a bad trade just straight up. A third round pick for someone who was not good for you is just not a good trade of course and you still have that capit on your book. So, no, that trade was not good. And I think there have been some other ones that maybe were a little questionable, but you know, trading away Jacob Trouba for an actual draft pick and a, you know, decent bottom pairing or number seven caliber defenseman, I think was a pretty good trade. And when you take a look at, you know, Keandre Miller’s capit, for example, being 7.5 million, it was almost kind of like the Rangers basically traded away Keandre Miller with that $7.5 million capit for Vladislav Gaver with his $7 million capit plus the Scott Morrow first and second rounder because if you went out there and, you know, resigned a guy like Keandre, of course, to anything close to that $7.5 million deal, well then you’re not able to go out there of course and sign a guy like a Gaver. So it basically was almost like you know Gaverov Scott Morrow and a first and second for Keandre which of course makes it even better. I mean the first and second and Scott in itself is more than enough but adding that on top of it and opening up that cap space to get a guy like a Gabricov I think was absolutely incredible business there by Chris Dre. They also went out there and added a guy like you know Taylor Radis for example. They haven’t made a ton of you know free signings there. brought in some other kind of depth guys like a Derek Pulot, you know, like a a depth defenseman there. Nothing else too crazy, but I I do think they have done, like I said, a really good job of, you know, making this team a whole lot better, at least for the playoffs. And I do think this Rangers team definitely should be able to be a lot better than what they were throughout this past regular season. Anyways, thank you all so much for watching today’s video. Last season's debacle created a lot of doom & gloom in the fan base. but the Rangers have a lot of quality forwards & an improved defense. What gives me the most confidence, however, is the vast improvement in the coaching staff. Sullivan is light years more competent that either Laviolette or Gallant ever were. With a viable structured system & more accountability & improved morale, this team can be very good.
