Vegas being Vegas lmao. He will be ready for the first game of the postseason again.
The NHL has implemented a significant change to Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) (LTIR) rules for the 2025-26 season, restricting teams’ cap relief to the prior season’s league average salary when replacing an injured player. Full salary cap relief is only available if the injured player is ruled out for the entire regular season and playoffs, requiring joint approval from the NHL and NHLPA. This change aims to curb the abuse of LTIR at the trade deadline by contending teams and will affect how teams manage injured players and acquire new ones.
Petra-angelo and the VGK don’t have the same freedom this season regarding the LTIR and salary cap. Someone will have to leave the team if he comes back. They should call it the Stone Rule.
So if I understood the new LTIR rules correctly…
Either he’s out indefinitely with no return in sight. Full cap relief.
Or they only get a slight cap relief based on average salaries.
So the 2025/26 playoff roster would have to absorb his full cap hit if he played, regardless of which scenario. But I can’t see how they can afford the regular season roster (and Marner’s signing) if he is rehabbing and dangling a return this season.
