Sixers Make SNEAKY Good Signing…
Don’t look now, but Daryl my may have done it again. Yes, I know so much attention is paid to the failed money committed at the top of the Sixers roster, but perhaps even more valuable has been the effort that Daryl my has put in to find diamonds in the rough. Well, he may have just brought in another one as Omi Bates has been signed to the Philadelphia 76ers on an exhibit 10 deal and is heading this way to training camp. He’s not the only name as we have four new faces to speak about in regard of this Philadelphia 76ers organization. doing a dive into what each of those names are and what they can bring to this team. And we it’s time to get excited here. We got some real basketball coming soon. Training camp has just about arrived. Media day Friday. We are back in the swing of the Sixers season. So, let’s get right into the topic of today. I do just want to start off with this headline coming out from NBA Central saying Omani Bates is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers per at Keith Pompei on Sixers. And the full announcement for all the players that are now added to this roster is that these Sixers have announced the signings of Ammani Bates, Kenny Chandler, Malcolm Hill, and Jaylen Martin to training camp deals. These are pretty accomplished guys in terms of exhibit 10 outlooks that Ammani Bates is a former top recruit, a guy that got himself a little bit messed up with some off the- field violations. Got, you know, taken to jail for a little for a huge weed charge and driving with that and really ruined the trajectory of his overall career. But this is a guy who’s still a bucket and sort of has got himself off the path, trying his best to get back onto it. And Philadelphia seems like a spot for that for me. Kenny Chandler, also a guy I’m pretty fond of. Really liked him during his time at Tennessee. He’s a bit smaller than I would like. And I know that this roster is loaded with guards. So, I think for Kennedy specifically, probably not the best outlook as far as a location, but I support the Sixers concept of bringing the most talented players and letting them dog it out. And I do think Kennedy Chandler is a guy who can at least be in that mix. He was drafted. I believe he started his career on the Grizzlies. Was not able to really carve out a niche there. Again, his Tennessee days is when I was all in. Malcolm Hill is not a guy that I know a ton about. I won’t lie. He’s a little bit on the older side, like 27 coming in in this type of situation. And Jayla Martin’s a dude who went down the overtime elite pathway. I do think that it’s fair to assess at this stage of the game that that has not been the the best pathway for development for these NBA prospects that we’ve seen quite a few. By the way, Dominic Barlo on the Sixers roster went down that same path. a little bit more optimistic for Barlo’s outlook than Jayla Martin specifically, but those are the new names to know. Now, to give a little bit of a write up on each of these or first, I guess I’ll show the official press release coming from the Philadelphia 76ers as this was emailed saying Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl my announced today that the team had signed Ammani Bates, Kenny Chandler, Malcolm Hill, and Jaylen Martin. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Bates appeared in 25 games over the past two seasons for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 23 to 25 averaging 3.1 points in 8.3 minutes. He produced a career-high 25 points and shot seven of 15 from beyond the ark in 42 minutes against Indiana. In 50 GLeague contests over the last two seasons, including tipoff tournament for the Cleveland Charge, Bates has produced eight 19.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists and 32.9 minutes per game. Prior to being drafted by the Cavaliers during the 2023 NBA draft, the Michigan native spent one season at Eastern Michigan and one season at Memphis, where he combined to produce 15.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. And it also addresses a little bit of a write up with Kendy Chandler, who joins the 76ers after recording 13.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, and 26.1 minutes per game over the past three seasons in the G- League between the Raptors 905, Long Island, and Memphis. The Tennessee native played in 36 game for the Memphis Groies in 2223 and you get the picture from here. Now to give a little bit more of a write up, this coming from the Philly voice and Adam Aronson here I think did a little bit of a better job sort of summing this up in the proper way and he writes the Sixers announced on Monday night that the team has agreed to contracts with Ammani Bases, Kendy Chandler, Malcolm Hill and Jaylen Martin. All the deals are exhibit 10 contracts which enable players to spend training camp and preseason with the team and then receive a signing bonus for reporting to their G- League affiliate after being waved. All four players have NBA experience and they should be expected to join the Delaware Blue Coats for the upcoming season. Martin, 21, already has played with the Blue Coats spending a few weeks with the team last January before signing a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards. Martin played in 16 NBA games last year with the Brooklyn Nets and Wizard. Hill, 29, is a sturdy wing with 24 games of NBA experience in 21-22 and 2223. He has not played in the NBA since, but spent time in the G-League, most recently with the Birmingham squadron, and continue on to write. Chandler, a 23-year-old point guard, is one of two players signed on Monday that was drafted in the NBA. He was the number 38 overall pick back in 2022, played in 36 games to Memphis Grizzlies as a rookie, and was promptly waved. Chandler was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school and went to Tennessee. The most recognizable name of the bunch belongs to Bates, whose infamous slide from the high school phenom to relative afterthought as a second round pick has been well documented. Bates, 21, spent the last two seasons on a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bates is 6’10, but very slight. His three-point volume is enormous. It would be difficult to imagine these Sixers parting ways with any of Jabari Walker, Dominic Barlo, and Hunter Salah. But it should be noted the players on exhibit 10 deals can be moved to two-way slots if they are eligible. And I do think this is the bigger story with this. I don’t see any of these guys pushing any of the three names there below. Jabari Walker, Dominic Barlo, and Hunter Salah. Salah is the only guy I could kind of see if Ammani Bates outplays Salah. I could see a potential whirl where that is the case. I did not think Sal had a particularly strong overall summer league there. Really kind of frustrating. I know he got injured first stretch there. Bates, I think there is more of a sample size for what he is, but it’s up to you if you like that version of a player. And what I mean by that exactly is to pull up Ammani Bates G-League stats at this point that he spent two seasons in the G-League in his rookie year in which he played 17 games. He averaged 34.8 minutes per game, 19.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, but the efficiency is the question. Shot 38.7% from the floor, 34.6% 6% from beyond the three-point arc and that was on 10.7 three-point attempts per game. Then in his second season there played 32 minutes per game, averaged 18.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and the efficiency still a major question mark. 37.7% from the field and 33% from beyond the three-point arc. Throughout his career, the two seasons in the G-League, averaging just 38.2% from the field and 33.8% from beyond the three-point arc. He is a shot chucker and not an efficient one. when he gets going, he is a blast to watch, man. That there have been several different occasions, particularly at Memphis. I really remember watching him like this where he gets redot and it feels like he can’t miss. It feels like he’s Kevin Durant out there. But there’s also a lot of games where that is not the case whatsoever. And I do think that to be fair to Ammani here, my little bit of a read of him in a G-League is kind of a guy trying to do too much that he did not let the game come within come to him, play within the flow state and whatever the game required. He was chasing his numbers. who’s trying to get shots off and create his pathway to the NBA. It’s kind of a lose-lose situation when you’re in those shoes that obviously you want to put up numbers. You want to play well. You want to make sure you’re performing and showcasing what you can do, but you also can put yourself in a little bit of a a harm’s way from a statistical standpoint when you’re chasing to the level that I perceive that he sort of was there. My main takeaway from this entire process is I just want to commend Daryl my for the non-stop tinkering with the bottom of the lineup. That I understand people want to pay far more attention to these stars on the roster, the big name, the allstars, the $50 million men, but in reality, the way to build out a long-term sustainably successful NBA franchise, is by maximizing between the margins. And Daryl my pretty expertly across his entire tenure here in Philadelphia. You will not find a group of two-way contracts as impressive as the names listed below. Look around the rest of the league. I challenge you guys to come at me and find a better list, a better list of two-way guys than Jabari Walker, Dominic Barlo, and Hunter Salah. Those are two guys in Walker and Barlo with like legitimate NBA experience that you just do not see. And when you factor in the exhibit 10 guys like Ammani Bates, like Kennedy Chandler, these are high levels of talent. Bringing up the level of competition, the level of talent across the organization only benefits everyone and every once in a while you can find that diamond in a rough. Maybe Ammani Bates is that this turns into an impact sort of score off the bench for this Sixers team one or two or three years down the line. Maybe Kenny Chandler can ultimately put it together. Adds a little bit to his frame as well. These are worthy attempts that the Sixers are taking. And even if these guys do not work out specifically here, I still think the practice of the way he’s going about bringing these players does deserve praise. So, a little bit of a hat tip to Daryl my cannot wait to see what these guys bring to the team on the court and cannot wait that basketball is finally here. That’s right. Strikes again? clicked so fast…. come on bro
Lmaooo
The unfortunate part is no matter how good these new guys are, our Coach/Front Office would rather give a 40 year old Kyle Lowry and a 37 year old Eric Gordon more legitimate playing minutes over all of them combined
I'm serious y'all idk what happened to him but Bates is a really good player very athletic, can shoot
They need to keep Emoni Bates
Bates is an intriguing signing. Could be a low risk high reward signing.
Remember what I told yall
sneaky good = ποΈ. He was just with Cleveland who were desperate at his position and couldnβt sniff the court.
I love this move Iβve been saying we could use Bates heβs a really good shooter fr
We need a big center and powerful forward , We need more size, To compete with other teams, Please pick the right players, The fans want a championship now ππππ₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯
FWIW, Ricky Council is reported to have been injured and he never signed with the Nets as a result.
RC-IV picked the wrong time to get injured, as he needed to work hard and impress to keep an NBA standard contract.
He could only re-sign with the Sixers as a 2-Way, I believe.
But Morey should keep the 3rd 2-Way open for a true guard (Sallis is the current place holder).
