On the hill tonight for the Giants will be the big right-hander Justin Burlander. 6’5 240 pounder. He’s 42 years of age in his 20th year at the big league level. And here’s his season in 27 starts, 3 and 10 with a 375. Look at the strikeout. Still a 2 and 1/2 to one strikeout walk ratio and just 13 home runs allowed 141 innings. One every 10 innings is very good. Hit on the ground. It deflects off the glove of Verlander. ricochets out to Schmidt who scoops the ball up and he throws the first four out number two. No two. Did he go? Yes, he did. He held on to the bat cuz he had that stickum but he took a swing and that’s strike three. So Justin Berliner gets his first strike out. Maybe a couple future Hall of Famers going to headtohead in that bat. Blander wins. Michael McGrevy coming off an outstanding outing last time out against the Cincinnati Reds. Pitching on the road and he’s got a little revenge on his mind against the Giants tonight. Yeah, he has definitely been awesome on the road. 2.5 the erra in six road starts. And you’re right, awesome. Seven shut out last time against the Reds. So here’s Ramos. Three at bats lifetime against McGrevy and he’s two for three. Here’s a drive out to left field. Back on the ball. Nar. It is gone. Elliot Ramos leads off the game for the Giants with a home run. His 19th of the year. That puts the Giants ahead one- nothing. Just like that. So, get the crowd into it, Mike. Well, nothing like a leadoff home run. Little overtime work for McGrevy in the first. This one rolled slowly towards second and that will retire the side. Michael gets the ball on the ground twice in the first inning. Ramos hits a leadoff homer and the Giants at home strike first in the first. One- nothing Giants. Here’s John Miller. Hard ground ball third base side. It kicks off the heel of the glove of Chapman who went over behind the bag, tried to backhand it. It ricochets down the left field line into foul ground and Chapman racing right way down the line and finally recovers it as Saji who hit the ball is at second base. One to nothing Giants runner at second. There’s a little tapper up the first base side over to get it with the bare hand pickup is Verlander and he loss it to first. Leaping to get its comes down on the bag apparently in time. The out call is made. Here’s Jordan Walker jam shot. Damas is coming home and now they got so Jay-Z in a rund down out there and guess what out there I think so JC thought it was a foul ball off of Jordan Walker and he didn’t go I think that’s the only reason you’d think he was holding up running between third and the plate but apparently not. Oliver Marble is on his way to talk to the home plate umpire. Was this a foul ball? Sure was. just looked like it hit him right on top of the left foot. Andy Fletcher, the home plate umpire, got an earful from Oliver Marl in between innings. A foul ball is not an appealable play, but on that last replay we showed you before break. Clearly the ball hit Jordan Walker right on top of the foot. Giants with a one- nothing lead. It’ll be Jose Fermine to lead things off. Tine doesn’t waste any time as he wraps this one down the left field line and he will open up the inning with a double. Not waiting around jumping on that first fast ball he sees. Ball in a strike. This one perfect. And Chapman’s got to hurry. His throw is going to be just in time. Boy, that was a thing of beauty though. Both sides of it. The bunt by Victor Scott II. Awesome. The play by the fivetime gold glover over there, Matt Chapman. We got two of the best in the business, who, by the way, were high school teammates at El Toro High School, manning the hot corner in this ball game. Infield in again. Nuke Bar, the key man in the inning. Nuke Bar strikes out, swinging. That was a good change up from Verlander with that runner at third and only one out. Verlander pitching for the strikeout. Gets the strike out. Two down. He takes a walk here. And now Berles’s next. Berles with a single. went right back over the head of Herlander in Cardinals first. This one shot through a base hit with two strikes. Berles combs a single. Throw goes through to right. It’s off target at third base and the Cardinals even the score at around a piece. Fine comes home. It’s a 1-1 game. Berles’s two for two. Aronado has not been striking out very much this year. Cardinals have tied it at one. Aronado hits a fly ball to left. Ramos coming in and he’ll get there to make the catch. out number three. After all of that, a double, a sack bun, a walk, a hit. The Cardinals get just the one. So, Walker steals a base. He’s in scoring position with two outs. Now, for me has another RBI opportunity. Fly ball left center field. That’s going to get down for another hit. Walker will score. Fine on his way to second. And Jos Fine with a two double night has put the Cardinals in front. It’s a two-1 game. Now, Scott Buds out in front of the plate. Verlander off the mound, picks it up, throws low to first and it’s pulled out of the dirt on a bounce by Des. Verlander did make the play there and gets through it, but a two-out rally for the Cardinals put St. Louis ahead. And here come the Giants. First and third, one out. Patrick Bailey the hitter. Giants trying to tie the game or more. Bailey lives one into left center field. That’s a base hit. That’ll tie the game. Chapman in to score. Rounding second, heading for third. Schmidt. He’s in there without a throw. Safe at first and stopping there Patrick Bailey. It’s two to two. Big opportunity for Ramos and the Giants. 01 and a base hit to right field. One run scores. Here’s the throw home and it’s cut off. Out at first is Ramos, but the Giants take the lead. That brings in Ivon Herrera representing the tying run. Herrera hit a home run yesterday. A two-run shot. That’s going somewhere deep off the bat of Herrera. Avon Herrera has just hit a two-run homer and the Cardinals have tied this game. His seventh home run this month, his 18th of the year. Lined over third. That’s going to stay fair and heads for the corner. Ball gets away momentarily from Ramos. Cardinals have him second and third. It’s a double for Nolan. Four straight Cardinals hits in the fifth inning. Pahes has hit a comebacker and struck out. Right-handed batter. Here it is. Ground ball to second. Breaking for the plate is the runner. The ball is booted by Schmidt. And they end up getting nobody out as the Cardinals go ahead five to four. And here comes Bob Melvin. That’s two balls in this inning on the infield for the Cardinals. So an error there on Schmidt. So Verlander leaves. He leaves trailing five to four. The Cardinals have three runs in and a five to four lead. Now the pitch ground ball to short into the hole to his right. Adamus to second one. The relay to first is not in time. Walker, well, Walker does have pretty good speed and it is six to four St. Louis. He gets credit for a run batted in. So, all of a sudden, after one half inning, the Giants now trail by two. And here’s Deers. Well, there’s a high drive into deep left center field. Well, way back there. And look, a laser beam into the left center field stands. The Giants get one right now. The 33rd home run of the year for Rafy Devils. The two-1 pitch here for Bailey. And that is a base hit inside the third base bag down the left field line. He is going for two. Here’s Newar’s throwing to second. The tag. He is out at second base. Bailey trying to stretch a single into a double after a Q shot opposite field hit just inside third base. What a break that is. And and a good play, a good hustling play by Newark. Also a very good tag by Ferine who’s doing a lot of things right today. JC right-handed hitter had a double against Verlander. He swings here, hits one into left center field. Gilbert sprinting over and he will make the catch and then tumble down and slide across the outfield grass and skid to a stop. Finally on the warning track. Elliot Ramos was the guy who probably was closer to that ball than Gilbert. Gilbert had a much longer way to go, but in the end, Gilbert called for it and Ramos peeled away behind him and Gilbert was able to make a terrific catch. Pahes hits this one on a line toward left center. That one’s going to go all the way to the wall and Pedro Pahes will rumble around to second. He’ll stop there with a two out double. Cardinals have doubledigit hits. Let’s see if they can add an insurance run here with Jordan Walker coming up. Walker swings it. It’s a fly ball to center. Drew Gilbert coming in and he will make the catch. Out number three. So great catch by Gilbert. A two out double. Runner stranded. Cardinals don’t score. And now the left-handed hitting Berles will come up. Two men on, two men out in the eighth inning. Six to five Cardinals. There’s a chopper up the first base side over to his right on a high hop. Gloved by Devers. Flips it underhanded to Gage covering for the out. And just like that, the inning is over with a runner at first base. He’s bluffing a move and there’s a ball line to left field right to Nbar for the third out in the eighth inning. We go to the ninth. The Cardinals are holding on to a 65 lead. So two down. Giants final hope now is Elliot Ramos. Ramos with a home run. He’s also had a two-run single to right. Sharply hit but right to second for Main’s got it. Flipped to first and the Cardinals win it. 65 your final score. The Giants with five more games remaining.
