Some people are gonna hate me for posting this, but this season is very similar to how the Dan Campbell’s tenure in Detroit started.

Some close games, some pitiful blowouts, and some embarrassing moments. The Glenn hire to me always seemed it was gonna be a 3-4 year rebuild. You just gotta hope that the plan works and we are a good team in a couple more seasons. I know that sucks to hear, but it’s what this franchise needs. A deep cultural rebuild.

Something that Aaron Glenn spoke about in his first press conference was this:

”Sean (Payton) taught me what sustained winning is all about, sustained winning. Dan Campbell, outstanding man. Going to Detroit with Dan, we were at the very bottom.

”But you know what we did? We took them to the top. So here's the one thing, in my last nine years I was able to do is to take a team from the top and reach the pinnacle, and also be able to sustain that. That's what were going to bring here to this team."

”If I go back to my first two years, I think we were 2-14 and 1-15 the following year. Bill Parcells comes in, and he just totally brought a different mentality and different people, To me that's what really changed the culture. Here's what I learned: I can stand in front of a group of men and give as many rah-rah speeches as I can, but culture is about people. Getting the right people in the building."

This is the reality, this is how a proper rebuild usually goes for a franchise as much of a laughing stock as we have been. Yes we have a lot of young talent on this team, guess what? So did the Detroit Lions that Dan took over who Aaron Glenn was the Defensive Coordinator for.

You can’t expect the turnaround to happen over night. It’s going to take time and patience which sucks, it’s going to suck, in fact it’s probably going to suck even more until it finally gets better.

People will read this and think I’m making excuses, but I’m not. I want this team to be good, but I am also willing to have a little bit more patience to see how this all plans out. If ownership stays out of the way and lets this front office do what they need to do to really change things, I think we will be rewarded for our patience in a couple more seasons.

All I’m saying is; we should be realistic with our expectations this and next season. If Detroit ran Dan Campbell out of their franchise that first couple seasons, they wouldn’t have reached the heights they did later on.

The fanbase wanted Aaron Glenn, and we wanted him to bring with him the franchise turnaround that he helped bring to Detroit. Guess what? This is what it looks like.

  1. I’m incredibly pessimistic, but I pointed out somewhere else, not only were they 3-12-1 in their first season under Campbell, but they started 0-8 and the 8th game was a 44-6 loss before a bye, at that point they were outscored 234-134 (29-17) and went into a bye.

I imagine Lions fans ready to tar and feather Campbell at that point also.

Every team is different and I have no reason the believe the Jets will turn it around like the Lions and Campbell did, but it is worth noting that Campbell’s first year looked way worse than this.

  2. I am definitely not ready to pull my hair out, but we also have to remember that the Lions had a solid QB in Goff AND multiple early round draft picks to accelerate the rebuild from the Stafford trade. Unfortunately we’re entering this rebuild without a long term solution at QB nor as much draft capital as Detroit had.

So in really we need the front office to execute at a really high level over the next 2-3 years.

  3. People should be aware this season is basically an alpha test and just keep calm, we don’t have anything figured out or basically any key pieces in place and this season was known to be a write off from the start.

There’s nothing about their performance so far you couldn’t have seen coming miles away if you were slightly realistic we just have to hope they can build ANY kind of identity or vision for the future coming out of this season.

  4. You’re not upset that we are 0-4 because you have settled into the misery. Feel her warm embrace and understand that through constant pain and misery. We are united as one

  5. I wasn’t expecting much this season but seeing the defense play so poorly with “stars” like Quinnen & Sauce, “good” LBs Quincy and Sherwood and what’s looking like terrible signings of Cisco and Stephens is discouraging.

  6. You’re not changing this level of bad in one off-season plus 3 weeks. Lions were in the same boat like you’re saying. Complete agree with taking a breath.

  7. I don’t understand the reason for panic when the three losses are to teams that will win their division or at the very least be a playoff team. It also took a last minute field goal for two of those teams to beat us.

I’m not saying people should be happy being 0-3, but the narrative of “same ole Jets” really only is applying to the fans right now.

  8. If we beat the dolphins we will have the same record as the chiefs or ravens after next week.. it’s not panic time

  9. I’m in complete agreement. I thing Glenn is the guy to turn it around if Woody and company stay out of the way. This is the 1st time in a long time that both the GM and HC came on at the same time without any overlap from prior regimes.

this is going to be a multi-year project. I’ve been a fan since the 60s and have seen ups and downs(mostly downs at this point). I’m willing to give him a couple of years. I think we’re more competitive now than we were in the past few years and have hope.

  10. I’m not sure why we point out some of the exceptions and not the rule. How about we stay in the moment

  11. Same! I definitely want my team to win every week, but I also did not have high expectations coming into this season. This team has a lot of holes and not a lot of depth, these were known issues over the offseason and it’s going to take time to fix. I definitely remember Dan Campbell’s first season in Detroit, and I remember laughing about it with a buddy who’s a Packers fan. We aren’t laughing now and there is no doubt that Campbell is one of the best HCs in the league now. We just have to give it time and see what happens

  12. Anybody who thought this team was going to go far in the playoffs or the Super Bowl… Well, I would like to have some of what they were smoking.

Not a hater… By no means. I am a fan going back to the days of Richard Todd. But you have to kind of live on planet Earth. If you thought a very inconsistent just in fields was going to throw to a Garrett Wilson and a bunch of receivers who may or may not be the third or fourth receiver on most teams and a rookie head coach was going to win you the Super Bowl… Well, you were just a lot more optimistic than I was on my best day.
We have to give this new coach and new regime more than five minutes to prove themselves. I must admit, I am rather disappointed and expected better from a Steve Wilkes defense… Let’s see if he can figure it out. Conversely, I’m rather impressed with Tanner. For the most part, he is scheming good, he’s mixing things along, I don’t see the problem being a matter of exes and owes. If Justin Fields can’t hit a wide open Wilson… Not sure what Tanner could do about that. He is limited by some of his pieces or lack there of.

But please with the same old Jets stuff. Aaron Glenn was not here for the last 14 years in which we missed the playoffs. Let’s not put all that on him just yet.

Let’s just sit back, keep it real, and see if they gradually get better, or if the wheels come off altogether.

  13. What did the lions roster look like before Dan Campbell though? This was a team that lured Aaron Rodgers out of Green Bay for a Super Bowl shot. We still have many of those pieces.

  14. Lions players would run through brick walls for DC. i hope our players will be willing to do the same for Glenn. let’s hope the Penis man doesn’t get in the way

  15. This team isn’t winning more than 4-5 games at best this year. 0-3 sucks but gotta give the new coaching staff an entire season before we truly can judge them. And even then, you can’t truly judge them because this isn’t really “their” team. They didn’t draft majority of the team.

I’ll be content if they just show fight every game and win 5-6 and maybe steal one from a good team.

  16. Watching Skattebo play made me realize how ducking soft and no effort most of the league plays with

  17. I get what you’re trying to do…in my mind, it’s not comparable. Detroit has a QB. We definitely do not

  18. I’m not upset we’re 0-3 this year. I’m upset this will be the 10th straight losing season. 22-23 was considered a bright spot and we only won 7 games.

  19. Moral victories and we are not even a month into the season.

This organization is hopeless. They are so bad they’ve turned a great and proud fanbase into this.

    Fuck Dick Johnson

  20. i’m not upset because i never expected more. There was no reason to think this would be even a decent team this year. I had them starting 0-3, just because they actually had a chance to win in 2 of them doesn’t make it worse. what would those wins accomplish, this team was never going to really compete this year?

i will never understand the people who before the season were saying this team could win 7 or even 10 games. just crazy talk.

  21. It sucks but we must be patient, the HC is in place now we need more pieces. Realistically, I was hoping for Seven or eight wins

  22. Dan Campbell is coaching tge Jets?
Justin Fields was on the Lions? yes, i know Fields was out last week.

  23. The shitty part is that Dan Campbell was hired the same year as Saleh. And we’re back to the beginning once again.

Campbell probably wasn’t even on their radar that year. Saleh is from Michigan and it would have made a lot of sense for him to sign there.

  24. oh my sweet summer child.

Woody will get impatient. He’ll pressure for a head to roll. Wilkes will get the ax first. Then he’ll demand we draft a qb and play him immediately. He will and he’ll crumble under the pressure. Woody will demand a head. Our OC will get the ax. Then we’ll overpay some free agents and Woody will get impatient and fire Glenn.

Woody is the problem. Until he’s gone nothing will change.

  25. The problem with the jets is they can’t get both sides of the ball to be good at the same time
