Cardinals vs. Giants Game Highlights (9/23/25) | MLB Highlights

Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals for the second game of this three-game series. Both the Cardinals and Giants are on life support when it comes to their playoff aspirations this year. Both teams trying to live another day. The loser of this game will be eliminated. On the man of the night for the Giants will be the right-handed veteran Logan Webb. This is his 33rd start, 14-11. Had 211 strikeouts against 44 walks. First time he’s gone over the 200 mark in his career. Web’s 5.30 erra against St. Louis is his highest against any major league opponent. Here is Donovan as this one cracked toward right. That’s curling away and down onto the warning track. Gilbert couldn’t make that cleanly and Donovan on his way to second with a stand up leadoff double. That brings in Ivon Herrera has hit two-run homers in each of the last two games. And he drives the ball to right for a base hit. Donovan will stop at third. That ball just cleared Cas’s glove at second base. First and third with nobody out for Alec Burles and the line is moving on the ground up the metal. Berles’s got an RBI hit. Herrera streaks around second. He’ll go to third. Three straight knocks for the Cardinals. It’s one- nothing here in the first. Logan Webb has thrown nine pitches and only four of them have been strikes and three of those have been hit for base hits, including a double and two singles. Here’s Nolan Aronado. One- nothing Cardinals. That’s squibb toward first. They’ll fire to second for one. And to first, it’s double play. That will score Herrera. Giants concede the second run. No RBI, but it is two nothing Cardinals. And Lars Newbar comes to bat to center. Lee on the run. Still going back at 391. Leaps up. Can’t get it. He smashes into the fence. And Nbar stands at second with a double. It might have fooled Jung Hulie a little bit. It was hit right at him and he could not catch up to it. Now Thomas Saji with a chance to drive in a two-out run. Smack toward left. That’s going to get down for a run scoring hit and Nbar will gallop. Saji with a long single. It’s three nothing Cardinals. Five hits here in the first inning. You’re one out from getting off the field and then boom, backto back hits and you’re in another stress situation. bat exploded and I think the barrel of it got the umpire Malachi Moore. Three runs are in for the Cardinals. They have five hits against Logan Webb already. Victor Scott the second and a back door slider. Strike three called Got things off to a good start with a leadoff double and scored the game’s first run. Line toward right center. Gilbert’s on the run. Not getting that. That’s going to bounce off the wall. Donovan’s got another double. Two of those in the game. He is red hot. Nine for his last 20. Adamus has got on a third hop and that’ll end the inning. Your starting pitcher for the Cardinals tonight, Andre Palante will make his final start of the 2025 season. Matt Chapman as we go to the last of the second. Swing and a miss. Palante takes care of business. Second strikeout. Here is Bryce Eldridge. Full count pitch. Swing and a miss. Palante with a good fast ball. He’s got 95 mph heat tonight. That’s his third strikeout. So Aronado joins the hit parade. He’s aboard and he is 10 for 18 against Logan Web. Aronado takes off. Huge jump. Baileyy’s throw is way off target. That’s his third stolen base in three attempts this year. Swing and a foul tip held on by Bailey. Strike three. So Web gets his second strike out of the night. Patrick Bailey who’s three for seven against Palante in his career. Bailey lines it to left. So he’s got a base hit and that’s the first hit for the Giants. 3-2 pitch. Bailey takes off. He got a good jump and the pitch is high. The throw was made anyway, but it was ball four. Giants have two on with nobody out. And Gilbert coming out the pitch. Gilbert hits one up the middle. Base hit into center field. Bailey went back to second. Now he works his way over to third. Well, it’s a conservative base running play, but you’re down three runs. You don’t want to run yourself into a double play. The bases are loaded now. The Giants have a great chance to get right back in it. Elliot Ramos at the plate. Bases loaded, nobody out. On the ground to third, go. He hit the runner. Two runs are going to score. Just a disaster for the Cardinals. Giants score two runs on that play. It’s three to two. That’s a heartbreaker right there. You make your pitch, you get your ground ball, you think you’re going to get that force out at home. Smart base running by Bailey. Make that throw tough. You run on the inside, you run on the grass to try to get in the way. That’s exactly what he was able to do. Divers at the plate. Swing and a miss. And Devers is down on strike. So he can’t come through for the Giants. Big strike out. And now Adam comes up. One-1. Adamus lines it into right center field. Base hit. Rounding second, heading for third. Ramos Gilbert comes in to score. Ramos stops at third. Adamus with a base hit and the Giants have tied the game at three. So now Chapman has a great opportunity for another Giants run. Center field and it’s caught. And here’s the throw home. It’s on the money. Cut off the throw to third. Not in time. Run scores. Giants take the lead. Ramos scores. Chapman with the sack fly. 43 Giants. And another walk. Second of the inning. Second of the game. And that is going to be all for Palante. First and third. Jung Hu Lee is next. It’ll be King against Jung Hu Lee. Long drive center field. Base hit. Adam scores. Eldridge running all the way. Tears around and goes to third. Jung Lee. Giants fans. Even with the ups and downs of his first full big league season, they are behind their center fielder. But now it’s five to3 Giants. Here’s his one, two called strike three. Slider Krooks can’t believe it. Statcast thought it was a strike. One, two. Walker strikes out swinging on a high fourseam fast ball. Two down. So just like that, two down with Ramos coming up. Blind drive in the left field. A base hit. Ramos at first with a two-out single. That gives Rafi Devers a chance with a runner on. Look at Devers. A base hit. Ramos streaking around toward third. New Duke’s going to throw to second. Rafie Des almost like he threw the bat at the ball. Lunging out and just punches one into left field. Alcala on the mound against Adamus. Swing and a miss. Alkala with a roar. That was a nice pitch. A 99 mph sinker. Brendon Donovan two for two. A couple of doubles. Line toward left center field. That’s going to get down and roll to the wall. Donovan’s got a three double night. Chip. This is three at bats in a row where he is just hunting sinkers at the bottom of the zone and drives it. That is his 14th three hit game on the season. for a great played appearance for Ivon Herrera walking for the 42nd time this season. Two on with nobody out and here comes Alec Berles. Now here is strikes three recalled with a slider. He strikes out. Berles looking. Now that is 200 innings in the book for Logan Web. Third straight season that he’s done it. Aronado a base hit to center field and a stolen base in the third. Get on the ground. Chapman cers web double play. Here is Matt Chapman to lead off for the Giants. That’s a fair ball down the line. Chapman on the move and he will and into second with a double. Now Patrick Bailey. Two outs now. Swing and a bloop into left. It’s falling and in there. Now it bounces away off the left arm of Newbar. Coming in to score Chapman heading for second is Patrick Bailey and he’s in there. Six to three Giants. Now Cos has walked and scored a run. He’s done well. There’s a swing lined wide up the middle into center field. That’s a base hit. That will be a run. Here comes Bailey around third. He scores. Seven to3 Giants. Elliot Ramos leads off for the Giants. Now a swing. There’s a shot way way back. Headed for Burnley. Adios. Pela. The 20th home run of the year. Very emphatically hit by Elliot Ramos. 8-3 Giants. And another milestone, I mean, for Elliot Ramos, he’s the first left fielder with 20 home runs since Barry Bonds did it in 2007. And the new pitcher for the Giants is a left-hander Joey Lucasy to Jordan Walker. Wide to right center. Walker uses the big part of the field. He’ll be rewarded with an extra base hit. Big man flying around first. He’s on his way to second. And Cardinals have another double. That is their fifth of the game. And Lucasy walks Victor Scott. They’re going to let Lucasy face Herrera. He’s coming into action today. 323 the average against Southpaws. Well, one swing of the bat here can make things very, very interesting in this ball game. High fly ball deep left. Ramos going back. That ball is going to creep over the wall. A three-run homer. Herrera does it again. His eighth home run in September. And Brad, you called it. One swing of the bat makes it a very interesting game. It’s now 8-6. That’s going to be the end of the line for Lu Casey. Let’s see if Aronado can pray on Bivvens here. Swing and a drive. Aronado takes one down the line. We got a one-run game. Number 352 in Aronado’s career, his 11th of the season. The Cardinals with two homers in the seven. That was his first home run since June 21st against the Reds. Coming in to try to close it out is Giants closer Ryan Walker trying to save Logan Webb’s 15th win. But that’s three outs away and the Cardinals beat him on September the 6th in St. Louis and he didn’t get an out. Here is Scott. Very fast runner. Line to left. Get down ball. It will. Victor Scott represents the tying run. The tying run is on Scott’s great speed. Donovan’s had a great night. Three doubles in four trips. Swing shot hit to the right field corner. Go Victor go. He’s around second. On his way to third. Pops going to wave it. Here comes the relay. Throw to the plate. Is up the line. Donovan with four doubles. Ties this game. Brendan Donovan does it again. Four doubles in the ball game. That’s going to be it for for Donnie. What a day at the plate though for Brendan Donovan. Four doubles. It’s going to get the runner to third. I put a check mark by that one for advancing the runner. One out with Berles coming up looking to get the ball in the air to two swing a base hit. Berles puts the Cardinals in front. A rocket to right and it’s 98 St. Louis with one out in the ninth inning. Well, that’s four hitters faced by Walker and three hits allowed. One away now. Will Adamet two pitch swing and there’s a drive along the right field line falling and in there base hit. He’s going to try for second. Here comes the throw to second. It’s offline. He slides in safely with a double. The tying run is at second. So two down. It will be Wilmer Flores. He got him. What a comeback. The Cardinals score six unanswered runs. They beat the Giants 9-8. Brad, we’re still alive. And this is a disappointing loss. Giants had an 8-3 lead in this one. And when you have an 8-3 lead, you’re supposed to win the game.
