Edelman Jr?

  1. Probably because the coaches think he isn’t ready

Edit: [WR Coach Todd Downing tells us](https://patriotswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/patriots/2025/09/19/todd-downing-reveals-what-holding-efton-chism-back/86237870007/) and it’s basically a more polite version of ‘he isn’t ready ‘

Here’s what I think is the most relevant part of what coach says “He’s also learning to be versatile throughout the whole offense, not just playing slot receiver like he spent most of his time in training camp. He’s learning all the positions, because a lot of the times that fourth, fifth or even sixth receiver on game day, you have to be able to plug and play”

  2. Efton had been learning every wr position so that he can line up in more than the slot. Heard that on a patriots.com interview

  3. Coaching staff are far from perfect, but there is usually good, more nuanced reasons that some players get snaps while others don’t.  If Williams and Chism aren’t getting minutes, it’s because there are aspects of their game the staff doesn’t believe is ready.

I believe they are prioritizing Maye’s development by giving him more dependable targets and minimizing WR mistakes (and yes, I know our current receivers have made plenty).  While I’d somewhat disagree if you had issues with that, it’s not wrong to suggest we should be letting our youth work through struggles instead. It’s not a matter of the staff benching youth out of idiocy or spite, but deeper knowledge of the players and differing opinions on development strategy.

  4. The fact more people have an issue with this over Kyle Williams not getting snaps is what’s wrong with the fanbase

  5. Because they want to win games and a nice underdog story doesn’t necessarily win you games.

  6. The most likely answer; they don’t think he’s ready yet. He’s still a very raw developing WR. Edelman wasn’t the Edelman we all love until his 5th year in the league. Wes Welker didn’t even catch a ball until his second year in the league. Both of those guys did have special teams value though so they saw some playing time early, Chism really doesn’t. He might dress this weekend given Pop’s struggles but even then I wouldn’t expect more than a handful of snaps.

Id rather they move Diggs inside full time and give Kyle Williams a bigger role.

  7. It feels like this is the least of my worries. Every wide receiver on our roster’s whole thing is 3-12 yards past the line of scrimmage. Are you even watching the fucking games? He would change absolutely nothing

  8. probably because they think he is good enough to make the 53 but. not good enough to make the gameday. happens every year. to every team. for all 17 games. to at least 5 players.

  9. How do you guys not know he’s injured?

It’s all Zo and Bertrand have been talking about whenever fielding this call. He’s been out with a small nagging non-serious injury. All media’s been saying he’ll definitely be getting snaps once he’s G.

  10. He needs time to develop and isn’t ready yet.

Why do some of you think because a guy made a few plays in preseason he’s ready for prime time.

  11. Dude is barely playing his 2nd rd pick and you’re asking why an underrated rookie isn’t suiting up?

  12. I’m gonna trust the OC who’s been with the organization 14 years, been apart of 10 superbowls, learned coaching from a GOAT when he was still GOAT level. And also the HC who was also coached by said GOAT and won superbowls and who the GOAT coach said would be a good coach in the league 1 day. It would be nice to know why, but I’m going to trust these guys to do their job with player analysis. There’s always way more than we ever see going on.

  13. You’ll see Hollins full time slot before you see Chism as a starter. As far as I’m concerned they can just scratch pop and have Chism ready

  14. Because he’s not good enough. It’s not some wild conspiracy. there is a reason he went undrafted

  15. Douglas is worthless on the field, there is no reason not to give Chism a chance over him. I am convinced at worst he will be replacement level compared to Douglas. Clearly Maye and Douglas have no chemistry, we need something to help spark this offense.

  16. Going from college where they hand you what to do on plays for 4 to Josh McDaniels offense i wouldn’t wish that on no man. That takes a min to learn

  17. McD’s offense is notoriously hard to learn for rookies so we’re supposed to be patient with him and Williams. That said, Pop has been horrible so far this season and needs to be benched. His decision making on that 4th down to end the game was atrocious.

  18. The other fans want the next Welker/Edelman so bad and it shows lol

Williams should be getting more snaps honestly.

  19. Remember when we had Chad ochocinco for that year and he barely played? He probably didn’t catch on to the offense.

Edit, he played I suppose, but his production was practically non existent

  20. He’s old school, he doesn’t play any of the young guys over vets if he has the option. “Earn it” type shit.

  21. Can we stop talking about him already. He played good against backups. The staff seems him everyday. When they see he’s ready they’ll put him in

  22. Maybe talent maybe favorites who knows. Anyone in here who has ever worked for a decent sized corporation or even military knows that the best don’t always get the gig. Could be favored because of loyalty to others, making less money so it looks bad if he’s playing over someone else, etc. People acting like the best guy always gets the gig is living in fantasy land and I think it’s a valid question as to why he can’t see the field.Vrabel is not getting fired for not playing an undrafted player, so no loss. If he plays him and we do bad or he underperforms he’ll get ripped to shreds.

  23. Yesterday Zolak said he’s been injured and Bedard seconded it. Why is nobody else saying this in this thread?
