Minnesota Vikings vs. Cincinnati Bengals | NFL 2025 Season Week 3 | Vikings vs Bengals
Very warm day outside by Minnesota standards, but then again, it is still summer. Either way, the the children will grown. It’s the final weekend of summer, but we’ve got the NFL and we’re underway on EA Sports. Fielded about a yard deep. And all that work, but he stopped where he ultimately would have been and he simply taken a knee. And that’s the 25 yd line. Mike is 59. Now the first carry for Dvin Cook and he’ll be brought down on the 30 yd line after a gain of six. Despite the blitz, they’re still able to pick up a nice solid game. The disadvantage of blitzing often alters a normal spacing and run fits and leaves creases like they were able to exploit right there. The last run got six. Now second and four. You don’t want you don’t want nothing. Pick up the ball now. Cousins and Rudolph has it left side and tackled down after a gain of three. Leaves him with one yard to go on third down. Only three yds on the catch. It’s third down. Try to get one more in here before the quarter breaks. No score after one on a sports. Second quarter now for Minnesota. It’s the Vikings in possession of the football. They’ve got a third down and a yard to start things out. Check check check. Working out of the gun. Cousins and he’s got Kyle Rudolph. defense was thinking run and they’re dealt a pass of just under 20 yardds. His position and he’s listed as a tight end, but he certainly doesn’t run like one. And that’s what we’re seeing more and more coming into the league. Those guys who can run, make plays after the catch and gain that additional yardage. And using that speed there to turn it into a pretty nice little game. First down. Here’s Cousins now. He’ll dump it underneath to his running back. Complete. The Vikings going to signal for the first of their timeouts as they get the stoppage with just under 50 seconds remaining in half number one. Could we get a touchdown in this first half after all? It’s first and 10. Get get away with they’ll throw again. Cousins over the middle. He’s got Treadwell. Now the Vikings will use the second of their timeouts as they’ll stop it with just over 40 seconds to go in the first half. [Applause] Cousins going to come up on a first and 10. And he’s four for four now. Throwing the ball to start the drive from the red zone now. Cousins. That one into the hands of Thelen complete. And they’ll bring him down at the 13 yd line. A gain of six there on first. Good throw, good catch, but I really like the route, the drag and being able to run away from defenders. Hard to stick with them for that long. Yeah, better against man than zone or better against man because now you’re running away from someone and you’re not running into a defensive player in another zone. And this one hauled in by Rudolph. The Vikings going to use their third and final timeout as they’ll stop the clock with 12 seconds to go in this first half. hot. Let’s go defense. It’s our time. No, no, no. They’ll run with Cook. So, he got free of one tackle, but couldn’t do a whole lot else. It’s a gain of a couple on what should be the final carry of half number one. So, plenty of action on the field, but no action right now on the scoreboard, at least as of yet. Nothing nothing is our score as we’ll head down to Orlando. That’s where we find our man Jonathan Coachman at our EA Sports halftime report. coach fielded at the two and a good return as he’ll be stopped just shy of the 30 yd line. So here’s Dalton and the bagels now. First and 10 just shy of the 30. Andy Dalton and the catch made. It’s Tyler Boyd and he’s brought down after a very nice gain. Fresh out of the locker room. They hit him with a gain of over 20. up. Check 54. Mike 54 Ricky Rich throw left side complete. That’s Boyd and they go backwards here. Losing yardage back at the 48 yd line. And this should be the final play before the quarter ends. And they’re not going to get to the line to run another play. So, we will switch ends as the third quarter has come to a close. We’ll return with more after this. This is the NFL and it’s on EA Sports. So now Dalton, he’s going to air one out and that will be incomplete. Tried to dial up the long one way out there, but it’ll be third down. So he’s unable to complete it there and just not the game that you would expect from him. He’s been off the mark really start to finish. Yeah, it makes you wonder what exactly is going on. Is he a little bit dinged up here or is he just off just by a bit? Maybe he can get it back in this situation. He’ll need to. Dalton wants to throw and he can’t get a throw away. He’s taken down. The Vikings going to signal for their first of their timeouts as they get the stoppage with a little over 50 seconds left to go in the game. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Here’s Kevin Huber now. And surprisingly, this is the first punt of the game for either team. And he gets this away. And look at this. This is a good one. The Minnesota offense about ready to get this next drive underway. They’ve got work to do, but they do still have a bit of time here, and they’ve got to feel comfortable with that. But they have all their play sequences called. They get out of bounds, that allows them to huddle and call another play. If they don’t, it’s hurry up to the line of scrimmage and either spike it and stop the clock or continue to move it downfield in order to try and get in range and win this game. See if they can do just that. The Vikings in the hurry up. They’re hustling up to the line. 59. It’s been a long day for you, Mike. Mike, check. Check. 59. 59. Me and you all day. All day. I’m coming after you. I’m coming after you. Here’s Cousins. The throw left side complete to Treadwell and pass the 40 before he’s out of bounds. And here in overtime, if the team that receives the ball scores a touchdown, it’s over. If they don’t, we could still have some more football. That’s exactly right. If they go down and kick a field goal, the other team gets a possession to either match it or score a touchdown to win the ball game. If both teams kick field goals, the next team to score wins. But if the receiving team throws a pick six or fumbles the ball and it gets picked up by the defense and they score, the game is over at that point. This will be taken in at the one and not a bad return here. He gets it out to the 25 yd line. The Bengals drive about to get going except for their first drive here in overtime. And this is where the crowd can really become a factor. They’ve had to battle it all day. But I know what you’re saying in overtime. That gets double, doesn’t it? At least because now the crowd really wants to be involved and help their team. And that first drive can dictate the whole thing because they know if this team takes it downfield and scores a touchdown, it’s game over. It’s been loud in here so far. One play has him up past the 40 already and another first and 10. I’m coming. I’m coming. The former second round pick. This is Joe Mixon and able to break one tackle but then quickly brought down. Now another timeout called for by the offense. They’ll be down to just one remaining as we step aside here in overtime. The last run got a couple. Here’s second and eight. Watch the screen. Watch the screen. Now the first carry for Javanni Bernard. And he’s able to get most of what he needed on the carry there. Seven yds on the gain and it’s third and two now. And there we saw one of the downsides of blitzing during a rund down because sometimes you get out of your gaps. you don’t fit the run quite as well because you’re headed towards the ball carrier with abandon hoping to keep this OT drive alive. Now they face a third and two. They’ll run again with Bernard and that one going nowhere from the start as he’s met in the back field and goes backwards. That’ll back him up two yards and also bring up fourth. Here’s Kevin Huber now on for a very important punt here in overtime. One overtime. How about two? We need another. We’re still leaving. We’ll switch sides and have that second overtime in just a moment. Here’s Kevin Huber now. And in double overtime. This needs to be a good one. And this is away. It’s a high kick and he got all of it. Here are the Vikings now to start their next drive. Their defense did its job. Got the stop. All they need is three and this is over. Couldn’t have done much else other than and the pressure too much that time as Cousins goes down now. Another timeout called for by the offense. They’ll be left with just one remaining here at OT. Now the Minnesota offense set to take over again. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] So now 20 yardds to go on second down after the sack. Work to be done. Cousins gives way to Cook. A good positive play there. Nine yds but still third and long. That was a good run. Probably right on the edge of breaking into something really big. So, the defensive guys right now are talking about, okay, what can we do to slow him down before he truly gets started? Third and 11 and some extra depth to the secondary here. They’re in the dime. What can Cousins do in the OT and he’ll be taken down by the Bengal pressure. These strong safeties, some people may not realize it. It’s really like an extra linebacker, right? It really is because they’re hybrids. half linebacker, half defensive back. The linebacker in him on that play emerged. Here’s Matt Wild now as the drive goes backwards. So, he’s on to punt it away. He steps into this one and this is a rocket. So, the OT clock hits zero and we’re still not done. We’ll switch sides and need at least one more OT to decide it after this. The offense now at the line, ready for their next drive. They punted last time they had it. What steps, Charles, you think they have to take to make sure they don’t do that again? Well, let’s just go to the football 101. Detroit Expression 101. Win first down. Make five, six, seven yards on first down and make it a second and three, second and manageable. Keep accumulating first downs that way. Keep moving the football. You don’t want to get behind the sticks because then the defense has the advantage. Now the Cincinnati offense ready to see what they can do here. Neither team scored yet. Now we go to sudden death. Next points win this game. How about the tension right now? It is ratcheted up, isn’t it? I mean, now whatever happens, points are scored. That’s your ball game. Can’t wait to see the defense now. Do they get a little more aggressive in order to not let the team just drive the ball easily down the field? Got to be careful though, Ryan. Yeah, if you’re too aggressive, you just give up something easy and cheap. But some defensive coordinators, they’d rather take a stand that way as opposed to being nickeled and dime down the field. Four yards on that last completion. So that sets up second and six. Dalton. Now he’ll dump it underneath to his running back. Complete. It’s a gain of five on the play. And that’ll make it third and one. Now a timeout called for by the offense. It’ll be their second and final timeout. Remember, here in overtime. We’ll be back. They had the catch on second down, but it didn’t help at all. And now they’re looking at third down here. Despite only needing one. Dalton to throw. Looks to throw. Fires right side. And that’s going to be incomplete. The coverage too good there. with the contact. Popped the ball free and it’s fourth down. Didn’t have a receiver open downfield as it turned out. Couldn’t even find his outlet man because of the coverage. It was way too tight. Unable to find anyone open. Here’s Kevin Huber now as he’s on to punt for Cincinnati. The offense back out there at the line ready for their next drive. and three and out on the last drive. No points on the scoreboard. Little soularching now, I would say. So, and they need to help out their defense a little bit. They’ve had to be on the field a lot more than normal. Put them in some tough spots. But what’s the old adage? When you get another chance, it gives you a better chance to do it right [Music] [Applause] after the incompletion here. Second and 10 from the 20. Let’s get off the field. Let’s get off the field. De to throw. Cousins got his man complete over the middle. That’s Cook. And they’re going to get this beyond the 30 before he’s taken down. [Applause] First down. Here’s the run with Cook trying to find a lane, but instead he’ll get back to the line of scrimmage. And no more. Now another timeout called for by the offense. They’ll be down to just one remaining as we step aside here in overtime. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Officially nothing on that last run. They’ll try again. Second and 10 from the gun. Here’s Cousins over the middle here to Rudolph. And they’re well past midfield. Just a yard or two shy of the 40. 16 yds a first down. Charles, you get into these overtime situations. That’s not a bad guy to dial into. Well, when you have to have plays, especially in a spot as you just described, we’re an OT. You’ve got to go to the guys you can trust and you know are going to make the plays. Well, they say it’s not the X’s and the O’s, it’s the Jimmies and the Joe’s. And now a throw on first down there, but it’s incomplete. Another nice job there defensively. They’ve really styied their passing attempts, and it continues in overtime. And for them to do that, that means they’ve had to be cohesive on defense, pressure in the quarterback’s face, good coverage of not just the the wide receivers, but the tight end, the running backs when they try and slip out, and making sure they’re at the point of attack. when the ball’s in the air, they get there and help force some of those incompletions. Cousins on target to Diggs and he works it past the 30, almost to the 25. Now the offense will burn their third and final timeout. That’s their second and last time out here in the overtime session. We’ll be back. [Applause] So it all comes down to the foot of Dan Bailey. This to win it in overtime. And he got it. The kick is good in overtime. He’s able to split the uprightes.
