Spencer Steer POWERS Cincinnati Reds to series win over St. Louis Cardinals | Podcast, Highlights
All right, Mike. Some day baseball in St. Louis. Uh we are ahead six-2. Melio Pagan coming in to try to what would be close down a nonsave situation. And um yeah, I mean listen, this is good. This is a good thing. We we’ve won a baseball game. Now we just the thing that sucks at this point I guess is we just got to beg and hope that other teams lose and if it does got a chance. Some are saying we got a chance. Kind of sad that Chase Burns wasn’t given the chance for the three inning save. Oh you kind of you wanted that. You were you were looking for that. All right. Yeah. You didn’t want it. Didn’t want to waste bullets. I guess. Well, I I I I guess I I just whatever makes him available the next time we need him when I think he’s going to be needed and or Yeah, that’s fair. So, I don’t know. Also, not having to use your closer on a non save situation, you know, right? I you weigh potentially having Pagan available. Yeah, I was thinking that too, but I I think at this point that uh Francona is basically probably decided that Santion’s his guy if he had to pick. I could be wrong on that, but it seems like he just doesn’t have as much faith in Pagan as he once did. He has enough faith in him to put him in in I think a high leverage spot whether it’s the seventh, eighth, or ninth inning. I just don’t think he’s going to pencil him into the ninth inning every single time anymore. I could be wrong on that. We’ll see. But yeah, also uh I did jokingly tell you guys we’re going to do like a 25minute show tomorrow because we did an hour and a half show on a three to nothing baseball game. Turns out I do have to take my son to practice. So, you know, there’s going to also be incentive there to make sure that we keep stay on track and and uh and do I I we always joking say maybe the shortest show in Chatterbox Red’s history. I don’t know what that show actually is if we’re being honest, but maybe this will give a run for its money. I don’t know. I have uh I’m coaching two soccer practices this evening as well. So, I got to leave a little bit later than you. That’s at like 5:30. So, I got some time, but yeah, I have to leave uh unfortunately way too early. I mean, it’s just unrealistic to do a show maybe, but we’ll see. It’s all right. got a short box score recap today. Unless the unless I spoke too soon and the Cardinals do something crazy in the night. Yeah, I was thinking that too. I said like the only thing that could really derail this show completely is if you know if is if somehow this ninth inning just gets extended significantly. I mean if we can get in the next minute or two. He just watched it saci and he did. So there’s one on one out. Up four though. like to think that’s that’s pretty solid. I’m gonna go out and say they got a fielder indifference here maybe. No, we holding a guy on at first base. Are we Jimmy Krooks? I think this guy has three big league hits and two of them are against the Reds. Yeah, he’s the guy that uh they were asking pinch hit pinch. No, they were saying they should have pinch hit for him the other night against uh Ashcraft and they decided to let him hit and he proceeded to strike out. So, I think he got his first home run left on left against the Reds as well. Might have been the nail in the Sam Mall coffin. I hope I’m talking about the right guy, you know. Yeah. I I think you got it. Just throw the ball over the plate, you know. I like that. I like that. 02 splitter down. One, two. Be a nice little high bounding ground ball up the middle. Step on second base. End this game. Am I Am I ahead of you? Perfect. Um, I don’t know. I hope you are. Are you telling me that? Oh, I thought they actually did get a double play. Nice ball. No, we’re we’re You see what happened right there? There was There was a There was a moment where I thought you just walked through exactly what happened and I realized that after that fall went foul that you that you basically were just saying that’s what you’d like to have happen. Um, I think we’re close because you’ve said that pretty much. Yeah, I’m I’m I’m one two. Uh Pon Paggon’s just now kind of coming uh set right now. And uh yeah, hopefully we get a ground ball double play. That’d be great. Umpire could have called that strike. I mean, he’s called some other things, not a strike before. Boy, he’s ready to go. I think he took a few off the shin or he took a a foul ball off the shin. I think he’s ready to be done. There was some wide strikes called in a last couple innings. All right, that would be two outs. All right, now number eight, Jordan Walker, I believe. Jordan Walker. Man, I’ll tell you what. Yet another I have been Go ahead. Oh, go ahead. This is going to be a go ahead standoff here. Okay. I was just gonna comment on how empty this this uh ballpark has been for the past three days. It is wild. Oh yeah, they’re either boycotting or they just don’t like a losing team and they’re like the Reds fans at some point too, you know. I feel like Great American does better at filling like I guess we’re going to have the Cubs series and that’ll be full of you know Oh yeah, of uh away fans. But like look at that. Look at the outfield. There’s like 10 people in that outfield. Did Did is my phone dying or did the broadcast just completely drop out? Oh no, I still got it. It came back. It came back. Oh, okay. Okay. I don’t know what it must have been like an app glitch or something. They just showed the picture of like the outfield. There’s there’s like whole sections with not a single person in it. I guess they’re down 62. Maybe they were there and they’ve left. But I I think that there’s some kind of boycott thing going on right now in St. Louis. But I also think that it’s kind of crazy to say that that’s what it is totally because I they’re not a good team. Like I say they’re not a good team and they we’re going to split the series. Yeah. I’m not gonna say anything. I’m not It’s like it’s like I I I tell myself every single time I walk down these steps, hey, today positive show, okay? Just just just keep it on the up and up, you know? Let’s let’s give let’s give the people a boost. Cardinals are not a very good team standings wise though. I think we go two and a half up on them if we win today. So team that was actively shopping their best player all year. Yeah. Strike three. There’s the ball game. Six to two win. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Uh, also somebody was using my uh my computer today for a uh for for uh editing videos and I guess that they took an SD card that apparently had the intro on it. So, I don’t have that available and I don’t have the outro. So, here’s what we’re going to do. Ready for this show? Here’s what we’re going to do. Uh, for those that are complaining at all times about how long the intro is, this is your show. This is the show that you’ve been waiting for. You’ve been waiting for this day for what has been three years since we introduced that intro. And you know what? Today’s the day. You don’t have to listen to it. Uh, thank you, Joy Vado. Uh, is Scott Hatterburgg a good player? And I guess the last but not least is what a start to the career of Jay Bruce. Welcome into a winning edition of Chatterbox Reds. Mike, uh, we are both a little bit on a time crutch, so I want to apologize everybody listening in podcast form. Uh, we have lives, I have kids, you have I think kids. Sounds like you got or andor you’re going to coach some other kids with some soccer later today. I’m going to do my best to try to make sure we stay on track the best we can, but also at least give you some insight on the game and perhaps some areas outside of the game. Uh Mike, good win. It was a good win. A win at this point that they needed to have to stay relevant. Um certainly we have we have made the season sound like it’s dead five, six, seven, eight different times. And for all intents and purposes, it might still be dead, Mike, but at least today gives you a little bit of hope moving forward that there’s something special still possible. Um, it was a it was a nice good quality start by Singer, which I’m sure we’ll get into just a second. Anything that you want to jump to or have an overarching thought before we jump into the Bos recap? Yeah, technically one out away from a quality start, but boy, I’m sure we’ll take whatever, you know, what he ever he was able to give. um and what he’s done this this uh second half of the season. It’s been incredible. But yeah, I mean it’s good. It it it feels like kind of similar to last night in that it’s just like, hey, we kind of were moving along, but then, you know, we had one guy hit get all five RBI for us and uh uh that changed the outcome. So, uh I’m glad to see it. I I don’t feel like, oh, I’m here. I’m on the bandwagon now. We’re going to the playoffs. But, uh, yeah, it’s good. This is a good It’s a good win to have. I think that’s kind of what the Reds are going to do for the rest of the year. Kind of win one, lose one, and, uh, we’ll, uh, you know, play out the year with some some good games like this and some heartbreaking games like uh, last night. I don’t know if, you know, you want to call it heartbreaking last night. It’s kind of what we expected. Any loss at this point moving forward until they’re mathematically eliminated, I think can be can be deemed as a heartbreaking loss because ultimately you’re one step closer to what you feel is your ultimate fate. But we’ll shall find out. All right, Mike. Bicycle recap presented by you and then uh we’ll jump into the deep drive of the day by DSC as well. All right, we do have a box score recap and uh it’s presented by Nick Kirby. Let’s be real here. Uh the Reds entered today 75 and 76 looking to get back to 500 and they are some amount of games out of the wild card. Uh but they had Brady Singer on the mound looking to continue his excellent second half and he would be going up against Andre Palante who the Reds have seen 15 times since 2022. Um but the Cardinals struck first with an Alec Berles solo shot making it one- nothing Cardinals. But then Brady Singer would really settle in getting 10 of the next 12 men out. And that would take us to the top of the fourth where Spencer Steer and Ellie de la Cruz walked uh with one out or not uh South Stewart and Ellie de la Cruz walked with one out. And Spencer Steer after five days off with a neck issue took a first pitch first pitch fast 411 ft for his 18th home run of the season making it 3-1 Reds. Uh if Ellie’s not careful, Steer might pass him up for home runs. He’s only one shy of him now. Uh but then in the top of the fifth, Gavin Lux singled Marte, joined the parte and after a big s walk, the Reds were gifted a run on a Andre Palante wild pitch, making it four to one. But Ellie would ground out to end the threat. In the sixth inning though, Brady Singer would experience his first turbulence. After a new bar walk, Ivon Herrera grounded the ball to deep in the hole at short. And after not fielding the ball clearly, Ellie de la Cruz made a throwing error to second base, letting N bar come all the way around to score. Uh and then uh making it four to two, but Brady Singer would get the next two outs before Tito gave him the hook. His final line was five and two/3s innings, three hits, two runs, only one of them earned, two walks, and six strikeouts. Graham Ashcraft would then enter and showed good fortitude, keeping the score at 4 to2. Then in the top of the seventh, the Reds did something I didn’t know that they were still capable of, and that’s play add-on. Austin Hayes singled, Big S doubled, uh, putting men on second and third, and then, uh, was run for. Sad Big S was run for by Espanol. U, maybe he’ll join the Trace Trace Fowler diet team. But then, uh, Spencer Steer got his fourth and fifth RBI of the day, making it six-2 Reds. Imagine that. Players performing well when they are given time off to get healthy. Chase Burns looked great in the seventh and the eighth and began finished us up in the ninth and that brought us to our final score of six-2 Reds. All right, we got a Jeep deep deep deep drive of the day. Uh and shout out to Spencer Steer. This was Spencer Steer’s day. I mean, if all the days that you can say were Spencer Steer’s day, today was that day. Uh it would be his 18th home run of the year. As previously mentioned by Mike, he is one shy of the team lead of 19 by Ellie de la Cruz. That would be 106 off the bat, 411 ft, 25 degrees in the launch angle for those that care and it would jump the wind probability. Now this is big time folks, 30% up to 72% as we all know would wind up being 100%. DSC. And thank you to John and his team. Um, all right, folks. Well, series win. Uh, it’s a shame that we’re at the part of the season where sometimes you don’t even feel good about a series win, but the reality is that’s what it was. Um, I think anytime you go into uh any stretch of baseball, whether it’s a four- game series or a three-game series, uh myself and Nick have said countless times on this show, I think you can’t go in expecting a sweep. I think that’s completely unrealistic. Yet, we find ourselves hoping and wishing for that because that is probably what’s going to have to happen. Uh, not probably, it’s going to have to happen for this team to find themselves in a playoff spot at the end of the year. But when you win a series, it kind of kicks the can down the road a little bit, Mike. it gives them a chance to maybe do it the following series. If you lose any series moving forward, uh it’s 100% obviously curtains, but a big big big win. Uh and listen, two guys stand out. Singer with a start, but as I just said, I think Spencer Steer’s time was uh was today. I mean, he had a fantastic day. Big hit after big hit. And you know, even the the the flare to to right field was a massive moment to play at on. I know the home run perhaps is a little more meaningful, but um Spencer Steer’s hit with two outs with a flare to right field after you thought maybe they were going to get stranded because uh Ellie once again inexplicably just has left the bat on his shoulders with with men in scoring position far too often. But uh shout out to Spencer Sheer picked him up for a team that hasn’t really done that a ton this year. And uh they got a they got a nice win, a good win, six-2. Um, Singer, quality start. Although it wasn’t a quality start, but it was a quality start because if he gets a double play there, Mike, it was a quality start, which is kind of funny how that all works out. Yeah. Uh, I’m just I’m happy to see um Spencer Steer this season just feels kind of lost for him. I I know we’ve given him uh we’ve kind of had some frustration of this idea of having him play through injury. I think it was just very ine unequivocal. he was hurt at the beginning of the year. So, he was just playing through injury and not helping anyone, not helping himself, not helping the team, you know, with how poor he was at the beginning of the year. But, you know, I I you know, I I I mentioned it in the in the box score recap, but I think the idea of just like, oh, somebody is is hurt. We’re going to let him get healthy and maybe, you know, give him some time off. I think he took five days off and then coming back and and showing that he’s, you know, can contribute when you’re feeling better, I think is something that we’re not used to seeing because what what we’re used to seeing is, uh, hey, this person’s going to continue to he’s playing through it, but we keep rolling him out there and he keeps struggling whether it was, you know, Ellie or even Spencer Steer or even, you know, some some other nagging injuries that we’ve we’ve uh experienced through this team. So, I I just you just wonder what it would be like if maybe they start him on the IIL, right, and maybe he doesn’t come in, but then he gets healthy and I think his season looks a lot different. And I think people would be a lot more uh gung-ho on what Spencer Steer might be able to add as a utility man around the infield if they would have I think if the Reds would have just done right by him by saying, “Here you go. Um, you know, go get healthy and then join us when your when your shoulder is is better.” So, uh, I think most people have passed him by with the way Sal Stewart has hit. They say, “Well, put Sal at first.” But I, you know, I still think that there’s definitely a pathway for him to help us, whether it’s at first, whether it’s uh in left field, uh, whatever it ends up being. I think that he’s, he can still have a a spot to be productive, even if it maybe isn’t an everyday player uh, for the Reds next year. Yeah, Ste Steer in my opinion kind of got the short end of the stick with my thought process and the way I got frustrated with this team. It was more the position that the Reds had put him in, which ultimately led to me saying that he’s got he’s not a good enough player to be put in that position and especially if he’s hurt, right? I I I haven’t really got into that kind of um I guess area of dis of of discussion. Whether or not he was hurt or not hurt for a significant part of this year, nobody will know. I do know that Spencer Steer cares about being out there every single day the same way that Ellie Delight Cruz does. But you got to protect the player from himself. And I I don’t know if the Reds did that. I would also say like Spencer Shear’s probably best asset to the Reds is that he is a competent bat, especially when you factor in the idea that he can play multiple positions. He’s not done that this year. He’s not done that. He’s been asked to play one position and that one position is a very very premium position for for power and hitting and he’s whether you want to say he’s been hurt or whether you want to say he just hasn’t been as productive for a first baseman that’s fine but the truth is is that you know he probably at times from my perspective I I’ve I’ve probably gotten a little too hard on Spencer Steer but because it’s not totally his fault because if CES was the guy that we all hoped him to be and was healthy CES would be the first baseman and and I would probably sing the praises of Spencer Steer and how he’s a guy that, you know, you take for granted and you just you don’t really you don’t really value him as much as you should for a guy that can maybe go play left field and play first base and play second base and play third base if you need it. All these different areas. Instead, he got stuck at first base. And I just I’ll openly say that and I’ll say it again. I don’t think he’s good enough to play first base and first base only, but he’s obviously a major league baseball player. He’s he’s showcased that 100% for a long enough period of a time for him to be here. The question is is how can you utilize him to your to to to what hit what will be his most advantageous way of helping the team and I just don’t see that being first base. But you know what? Today’s a good day for Spencer Steer because if it if anything if he can showcase that he is healthy and you know he looks like himself if you want to call it that for the next week week and a half well I I feel pretty good about it. Uh heading into 2026. Yeah. I don’t I don’t know how much playing time he’s going to get. I’m not sure where it would be if you’re going to continue to play South Stewart because today obviously he was able to be in the lineup with South Stewart because they gave Key Brian Hayes a day off. Um I uh I’m not sure where where he fits in uh throughout this lineup and but we’ll see. You know, we’re always surprised at what Tito decides to run out there sometimes. Um, I guess remember this is a team that, you know, held on to and gave multiple I think over a month of playing time to a guy named Connor Joe, right? Who was supposed to be a left-handed masher that played outfield in first base. It’s just like I think that’s the floor for what you could get out of Spencer Steer, right? And it’s like that’s for sure he could he could be able to do something like that. Start against lefties, maybe maybe platoon with Benson. I don’t I don’t know. Once again, I there’s there’s lots of things in there, but it just you got to remember throughout a full season as well, there’s injuries that happen and uh we employed Connor Joe on the major league team for a very long time and Spencer Steer is a huge upgrade from that. Yeah. Well, Spencer Steer is a better player than Jacob Herabies will ever be. Uh Spencer Steer is a better player than Garrett Hampton will ever even think about being. He’s a better player in my opinion. I get that the splits are probably completely backwards between him and Jake Frillley and and I know Jake Frillley is kind of a guy that maybe just had his own personal things that have gone on when he was here and and I don’t really want to jump on his case, but the at the end of the day, Spencer Steer is an upgrade over the vast majority of the guys that we tried to make a utility player this year. He’s better than Santiago Espanol. He’s better than a lot of these guys. And the truth is is that he probably got put into a position that they needed help at, but the reality is that that’s just not where he needs to be moving forward. And hopefully he’ll get back to a spot where he’s the utility guy in 2026, probably the way that we thought he was going to be in 2025 until I don’t know. I guess we stopped believing in some people. Um whether that’s good and or bad, I don’t know. And I also think Tito kind of fell in love with Spencer Steer a little bit and and I’m sure that he asked Spencer Steer, hey, are you capable? Like you feel healthy enough to play on opening day? What do you think Spencer Steer’s going to say? I mean he like Spencer Steer is going to say he can play no matter what come hell or high water. So I and that’s not a that’s not a terrible at like attribute either. Like I want guys that want to play to be clear, but I also want front offices and I want managers and and and guys inside the clubhouse to be able to kind of know if guys aren’t themselves and and make sure that they’re healthy before we just run them out there time and time again. Um, anything that you have on Singer before we jump forward to Yeah, I just wanted to highlight just how great he has been since uh the trade deadline. So, we’re talking August and September, he’s had eight starts. He’s gone five and two in those starts, but he’s had seven of those eight starts are quality starts. So, with a two 36 ERA, he has um he’s only given up three home runs, which were looking to be kind of like a bugaboo for him. It seemed like early, but only three home runs, 14 walks, and 48 strikeouts. In fact, the Do you know the player that has the most strikeouts in that time for the Reds? Brady Singer. Uh, not a guy that we are like, “Oh, yeah, fill up the strikeout sheet like a Nick Lolo or Hunter Green.” Um, but he has he leads the Reds in strikeouts in that time as well as, you know, uh, quality starts and he’s really turned into basically a performance that like what we got out of Nick Martinez at the end of the year last year, right? Just quietly came in and was excellent for us down the stretch. Now, we’ll see if it ends up mattering, but you know, it’s hard to look at what you’ve gotten out of Brady Singer and the longevity, the fact that he’s made 30 plus starts, uh the the fact that he has been somebody that has been able to hold it together and um you know, I think been a big asset to this this baseball team and then we get to have him again next year. So, um you know, I’ve been very pleased with what we’ve had with Singer. I think he’s great in that five four five uh starter role. Um I wouldn’t want to be counting on him in a playoff game. I don’t know the way he’s pitching now maybe. But uh it’s it’s still you know what we’ve gotten. I think if we would have stopped the season at the All-Star break, I think we would everyone been like well look I mean we won that that uh India Brady Singer trade and I think everything since then which has been amazing has been just gravy on top of it. It’s pretty hard to look back on that trade and think uh you know we didn’t we didn’t uh come out on top. Oh, one that’s one of Nick Crawl’s better wins. I mean, if we’re being completely honest, I think that that by far was a was a slam dunk. And you know, I I guess ultimately we’ve got to find a way to have just a couple more wins like that in my opinion uh offensively that that would really get us in a spot where I feel good. um cuz Singer was a guy that was not on our radar in 2024 at this time of the year at all and then all of a sudden obviously he’s been a pretty big component and part of 2025. Question is now is can we find something like the Brady Singer of the offensive variety that will allow us to be like wow that guy actually like he he’s helped us out a lot this year and we never even ever expected him to be on this roster in 2025. So, we’ll see if we can find a way to do that. But, uh, Brady Singer was an absolute home run, slam dunk, whatever term you’d like to use, um, for an acquisition for, let’s face it, somebody that was already had ran his course a little bit with his position availability, etc., etc. And I don’t want to get into all that with with obviously India. And I I said it before and I’ll say it again like I wish India the best but it at the same time with the emerging uh what we thought was a great player in Matt Mlan. We’ll see if he’s capable of bouncing back. There just really wasn’t any spots left. Um you know I guess ultimately you know Gavin Lux had a good day today too. I don’t want to I don’t want to just gloss over that. He got thrown in the leadoff spot. Got on base um I don’t know if he got on base four times. I know he got three hits. Um, but that’s that’s that’s obviously a really big day and set the table and allowed the Reds to have scoring opportunities. Last night they they didn’t have any scoring opportunities at all. Today they had a lot of a lot of opportunities and they cashed in on a few of them. So, um, so it was a good Reds win. We’ll see if they’re capable of of continuing it. We’ll get into the who, what, when, where, and why here in just a moment, but the Reds don’t really have any off days here. So, we got to move forward and move forward fast and try to fight a win find a way to win some more meaningful games. Uh, 988 you can text and or call day or night. uh anonymous hotline. Then the pure ground sirloin burgers, Omaha steak burgers, jumbo gourmet Franks, and then a little Omaha steak seasoning in there just to add add to it. I uh forgotten about that one. It’s pretty good as well. I even added on some pork and bacon burgers, too, just because that because that sounded great. Um I might not grill those because it might set my whole grill on fire with all the grease. That might need to be like a cast iron thing. But I’m going to enjoy those. You let me know how you enjoy them. Maybe maybe we can start to enjoy some of these uh on some crazy magical run. I’m I’m I’m trying not to give up, but I’m also trying to be a realist on this show at times, but uh seems like being a realist can get people upset, but sometimes being somebody that acts like there’s still a chance will get people upset as well. So, that’s just what you do. You just get people upset when the Reds don’t win. When the Reds win, everybody’s happy. When the Reds lose, we start calling people names and we get mad at everybody. So, fun times in Red’s fandom. We’ll see if the Reds We’ll see if the Reds can find a way to make us all happy here soon. All right. Uh Reds Mlb Mike. Uh don’t know what’s left on the graphic at this point. Louisville has already played. Louisville has already played and unfortunately has lost to Nashville today. 4 to one. Um uh Yazer Zuluetta got the loss unfortunately. Uh went two innings uh two hits only one earn run but uh two walks and two strikeouts. Blake Dunn continues his um you know just excellent second half in Triple A. He went it says two for four but on the box score here looks like he went two for five. Um Edwin Rios three for four with an RBI. DJ Anton with another scoreless inning. It’s good to see that. And then Buck Farmer unfortunately gave up some runs. Gave up a run. Um one inning pitch, two hits. Uh only one of them earned. Two runs, one earned. Uh walk and a strikeout. So, they finish this weekend uh with the Nashville Sounds at home and that will be the end of their season as well. Also, tomorrow is game two of the uh of the divisional series for Chattanooga. We we got the I think it was Flat Rock talking about how they’re going to live or live chat it up, but um they play Birmingham tomorrow. I believe it is at Hold on. I had it right here. 7:15. Thank you, Craig. 7:15 tomorrow. Um, that one’s in Chattanooga. So, uh, be cheering that on along with the, you know, the Reds as they they come back home at the end of of this series. So, yeah, that’s Red’s MB. Also, you know who Michael Jordan’s manager was down at the Birmingham Barren. I I very much do. That would be your your yours truly, Terry Franona. Yeah. Yeah. Very much a different time. Uh, funny story about Terry Franona with Michael Jordan if you’ve never heard it. I’m sure we’ll share that maybe on the next show based off the time constraints we are on this one. But uh a good little story about him and Michael Jordan that he told that I thought was that was a good little story. Tito can tell a good story. Now uh we have a little who, what, when, where, and why. Red’s right back right back at it tomorrow. Mike, some more must-win baseball, my friend. That’s right. We have and the guy we have on the mound for us is Hunter Green going back home six and four with a 301 RA. I know he had a tough start last at um last outing, but overall when he’s been healthy and on the mound, I think he’s been uh as advertised and um so pretty excited to be able to see that. We’ll be going up against Colin Ray who’s uh 10 and six with a 423 erra. Believe this is against the Cubs. It looks like that’s Colin Ray with a uh a Brewers hat, but it is against the Cubs. Starting at 7:15, uh we’ll have postgame. I believe it’ll be you and uh you and Craig going up um for the postgame show while Nick is still on paternity leave. Uh, unfortunately I didn’t have time to look up any of the uh um stats against, but let’s hope that we can get to their um we hope we can get to their pitching because we we’ve all seen how uh Chicago has um can can uh can really uh hit and can uh so we’re going to need we’re going to need offense to show up. We’re going to need some of these uh clutch hits. We’re not going to be able to survive on, you know, three hits like we did last night. So hopefully we’ll be able to take a take a ser I guess we’re at the point now where we kind of got to win out, right? So let’s uh let’s sweep let’s sweep the Cubs. You know, every 11ame win streak starts with one win. So that’s right. Let’s start it with that. Let’s start it with that. Let’s go get two wins tomorrow. Two wins would get us closer to what would be 10 in a row. And uh I’ve been preaching five in a row all year. And boy oh boy has that has that uh has that come and gone. I don’t know if five in a row is going to get it done anymore, but uh in order to get to in order to get to 10, you got to get to five. In order to get to five, you got to get to two. So, we’ll see if they can get to two tomorrow. Uh don’t have the outro today either. So, one one heck of a really show, you know, the type of show that makes you think, “Wow, those guys got it all together.” Uh no intro and no outro. You know what I’m saying? But you know what? At the end of the day, we very much appreciate everybody tuning in in the middle of uh the workday along with the fact that uh many of you might be driving home or wherever you are right now. Please make sure that uh you hit the like button if you haven’t already and we very much appreciate all the support each and every single day. We’ll be back here as always better than ever. Myself, Craig Sandlin, we’ll hopefully be talking about another Reds win and another Reds win and another Reds win. And if we do that enough in a row, maybe, just maybe, the Mets will find a way to fall apart. As we leave, for those that are wondering, the Reds are currently two and a half back. It all depends on what the Mets will do tonight against the San Diego Padres’s. They will either be three games behind the P behind the Mets or they will be two games behind the Mets. Although, there are uh the Diamondbacks in front of them. We will get to that later another day. Let’s just worry about winning. And until then, we’ll see you. Take care, everybody. We very much appreciate you. Go Reds.

The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals meet for a decisive rubber match on Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium, with both teams eager for a series win. While the Cardinals have already clinched the season series with their 7-5 advantage, the stakes are high, especially for the Reds, who are looking to keep their fading playoff hopes alive. Following a dominant 11-6 victory in the series opener, the Reds were shut out 3-0 on Tuesday night, setting up this crucial Wednesday contest.
Cincinnati will turn to right-hander Brady Singer, who has been a formidable force on the mound in the final stretch of the season. The 13-10 starter carries a 3.94 ERA into Wednesday’s game, but his recent performance has been outstanding, boasting a 2.00 ERA over his last six outings. Singer has also thrived against the Cardinals this season, holding a 2.50 ERA in his three previous starts against them. However, he will need to overcome his struggles on the road, where he has posted a 4.99 ERA in 2025.
The Cardinals will counter with right-hander Andre Pallante, who owns a 6-14 record and a 5.23 ERA. While his season-long numbers are underwhelming, Pallante has shown signs of improvement recently, allowing only two earned runs in each of his last three starts. He also holds a strong career record against the Reds, with a 2.08 ERA in 18 games. St. Louis’s offense, which has been inconsistent this season, will need to generate more runs than the three they mustered on Tuesday to secure the series. The Cardinals will have to do so without catcher Willson Contreras, who has been sidelined with right biceps tightness.
Both teams have star players who could break the game open. For the Reds, Elly De La Cruz has been a standout, leading the team with 19 home runs and 82 RBIs, and batting a solid .264. On the Cardinals’ side, Alec Burleson is hitting a team-leading .283, while Willson Contreras’s 20 home runs and 80 RBIs have been a consistent source of power. This mid-day matchup promises a tight, low-scoring affair as both teams desperately try to finish strong and end the series on a winning note.

Mets need to lose
The Reds have been a glorified beer league team for the past 30 plus years. It gets so tiring waiting to see if other teams are going to fall apart for them to have a chance to make the playoffs because they cannot seem to do it own their own and hats off to Elly for 25 errors with games still left to play this season.
If you bring these prospects up one by one to a good team, for example CES, you put them in a lot better position to develop into good hitters, lineup protection etc, vs bringing them all up at once, sure until the league adjusts they did great the first year, but remember we would give up 8 or more runs a game and face weaker bullpens and make a comeback.
When do playoff tickets go on sale?
