Kansas City royals RHP prospect Ben Kudrna shows us his arsenal and the pitch he’s working on.
Awesome. All right, Ben, let’s see some pitch grips. How about that? All right, what do we got? All right, so one I probably throw most, my four seam right here. It’s pretty standard grip. I know some guys like to go wider, but skinny right here. You can help stay behind the ball a little bit more. Uh, next one is my slider. It’s right here. Just a hard hard gyro right here. Um, ironically, I’ve thrown probably the same pitch grip my entire life. It’s never really changed. Um, it’s probably the money maker right here is my change up. Um, this was one that we’ve definitely tinkered with a good amount, but um, I found a good spot for it. And then this year, new curve balls right here. So, this one’s this one’s work in progress. So, this one will probably change next time, but um, and then occasionally you get right here with my sinker. Yeah. Right there. So, it’s a good mix. It’s all pretty similar, but like I said, a lot of them I’ve thrown kind of my whole life. Just small adjustments to to how you throw them and a little bit of the grip, but that’s about it. Nothing too special. So, what’s the toughest pitch grip to master? You would say, it’s definitely the curveball for me right now. Um, I I favor pronating, which means I like to do this with my wrist. And so, with a curveball, you want to do the other you want to go the other way is is how you make it a good curveball. And, uh, we’re learning how to, you know, consistently do that. So, that one’s definitely been the biggest challenge this year. What’s the fastest you’ve ever thrown on the bump? Um, I want to say I’ve been up to 100, 99, 100. Um, it’s a while ago. It was a while ago, but it’s different, you know, back back when you don’t throw as much. You throwing once a week. Um, but you know, if we can settle back in around 95 here, we’ll be fine.
