Walker Kessler, Jazz not expected to reach agreement on a rookie contract extension… Kessler would enter restricted free agency next summer.

  1. Knecht’s value collapsed towards the end of last season. Therefore, there isn’t any reasonable package we can put together here.

  2. They saw what happened to this year’s RFA market and decided to get into similar situation and pay Kessler less.

  3. Smart move by Kessler. They are showing zero commitment to coming out of constant draft pick hoarding to build a contender. Ainge loves his “precious” picks

  4. Lol we’re gonna get a random Shams tweet in a few months saying how he signed an extension worth $250M for 5 years.

  5. The whole point of him was to get value from the rookie contract. Paying him what he’s worth, strips him of value as a target.

  6. I don’t expect this to matter too much, but it might give us a bit of wiggle room on Ayton’s contract negotiations.

I’m expecting that playing next to Luka will enable Ayton to have a breakout year and ask for a big payday to match (30m is not an unreasonable starting point for an 18/11 big). At least now we can threaten to try to pay Kessler if his agent gets overzealous. Though hopefully it doesn’t come to that.

Let me dust off those Kessler for Rui, Reaves and whatever we can think to get Kessler trade

  8. Can’t believe they turned down unprotected Laker first rounders post LeBron for this guy lol Ainge is washed as a GM. Old Danny would have traded him 2 years ago
