[Sammon] The Mets are designating outfielder Jose Siri for assignment, league sources tell The Athletic

  1. Traded for him to be our starting CF only to be DFA’d in the heart of a playoff battle. Stearns masterclass

  2. When Siri half jogged to the wall after the ball went by him last week, either he was hurt or disinterested. Either way, as a legit fan of his, this seemed to be only a matter of time. Hope he lands on his feet.

  3. I get that we’re mad about how Siri performed, but I seriously don’t think anyone saw his floor being THIS low. Which means you can’t really blame Sterns. At the time, it seemed like a pretty solid move!

  4. He was on a 1 year deal. Got to go into the playoffs (hopefully) with guys who you trust can perform now. Siri was not that guy.

  5. They should have DFAd both Siri and Mullins. It is worse to have Mullins on this team because I think management considers him to be a good option in CF, when he is not. He does not excel anything except stealing bases and we have Acuna.

  6. I guess it just boils down to Siri being a righty and therefore a duplication with Taylor, but seems crazy to DFA Siri who was under contract for a while and keep Mullins who is gone either way at the end of the season

  7. Siri can be a useful player but his toolset walks a very thin tightrope. All it takes is for his fielding to be “only” really good instead of top 1% and he becomes unplayable. He’s not exactly someone you keep around because you’re afraid you won’t be able to replace his production.
