Lamar Jackson: ‘We Just Got to Lock In on What’s Ahead’ | Baltimore Ravens

city. That’s one of the few places that you played multiple times and have not come out with with a win. Does that any add, you know, the not being a win there. Does that any add any extra motivation going into Arrowhead? Uh, like I always say, you know, each and every week I’m going to be motivated. No matter who the opponent is, no matter where it is, I’m just trying to win. But no, not really. I’m already motivated. Uh, you had a chance to look at the film for Monday night. Did you see more opportunities maybe to run with the football? Did you think at times maybe you held on to the football a little too long knowing that you could have run? No, I didn’t look at the film and think I should have ran sometimes or I don’t think I was holding on to the ball. I was venting. I was trying to let the routes develop, you know, but they did a great job with the pass rush, their their stunts and um their rush to cover linebackers, you know, diving at my feet and stuff like that. They did did a pretty good job. You just got to execute better next time. more. I know in the past, a few years ago, you referred to the Chiefs as the Ravens kryptonite at one point. How do you kind of keep those past games out of this week? It’s in the past. You know, you can’t bring what happened back whenever when, you know, um to this year. Um we just got to lock in on what’s ahead right now. You know, just getting better in practice. Watch film on those guys. Watch ourselves self ourselves. Just get after it come Sunday. Mo, what did Detroit do well with this fourman pass rush on Monday? Uh, like I just said, you know, the team stunts, um, it’s it’s not nothing we never seen before. You know, I just feel like we need to do a better better job at executing Lamar Monday night was not the best outcome. What is the vibe in the locker room? You as a leader of this group, what is the message facing a big opponent like the Kansas City Chiefs? Well, we got to lock in, you know. Um, I I feel like last three games, even even with the win versus Cleveland, we was we started off slow, you We just got to play how we play ball, you know, play football, play Raven football. Um, like I said, self scout ourselves and just get ready for Sunday. I know you said the past is the past, but does starting off last year wanting to does and that year kind of turning turning around as the year went on. Does that I guess is that something that you guys are able to look back on now being in that same spot again? Yeah. And and going back uh I want to say 2019, we was like two and two to start the season as well, you know. So, um I just I I play week to week. I I don’t really care about what happened in the past, you know. I I I be mad about the situation, don’t get me wrong, when it happens, but we got to get ready for Chiefs. We can’t dwell on, you know, old history. We got to worry about what’s going on now. What kind of challenge do they present to you when you’re, you know, from picture standpoint when you’re you’re playing against them? the Chiefs, what kind of challenge do they present to you? Um, you know, go cover zero, uh, cover six sometimes, quarters, invert, too. Um, they do it all, you know. Um, but we just got to execute, stay, uh, positive ahead of the sticks, and, um, get first down, put points on the board. Well, you you you mentioned executing on on a few different occasions. Do you just feel like if you guys play like your kind of game play to the level you feel like that that’s what you that’s the focus that that’s the rest will take care of itself. Yeah, absolutely. You know, um when we playing to our level of football, we score non-stop, you know, no matter who we playing against. Um and I feel like once we get to that level, sky’s the limit. I know big mad plays on the defensive side of the ball, but you know, John says that he’s not playing this week and, you know, there are concerns about, you know, that the neck injury. I mean, when you see a teammate going through that, you know, how does that kind of make you? Well, I don’t know about all that, you know. Um but, uh coach said he’s out. He said he’s out. He’s out. Um, well, we just gonna have to uh win it for him, you know, go in there and try to win for him. That’s all. I don’t know about all the how long and stuff like that. I don’t know about all that. It’s kind of crazy. You think you you lead the NFL in scoring, but sitting there one and two. Uh, so that that’s what do you make of that? Put more points on the board, try to score more. You know, we only can worry about ourselves. You know, um, it’s a team game, but we only can worry about offense. Lamar, face camera showed you talking to Derek on the sideline at some point during the game. How do you think he responds to a situation like this where he’s putting a lot of pressure on himself, points the finger on himself? Um, you know, I feel like it’s a Capricorn thing. You know, you want to win and once things don’t once you feel like you a part of something like might be a loss, you know, you felt like you did something wrong, you going to always put the blame on yourself. And like I said, uh, after the game on Monday, it was like 6 minutes and a half left. you know, we still could have executed and made something happen. Um, we can’t fault them for that. You know, mess up. Just going back to what you’re saying about um, you know, letting Rouse develop and stuff. How tough is that um, decision whether to run or throw in in in that moment for you just from a um, you know, is that something you have to be conscious about um, or is it more of a feel thing and and do you feel as fast as you’ve you’ve always been? Yeah, I’m playing football. You know, I’m not thinking, oh, should I run here? Should I throw it here? No, I’m just, like I said, letting the play develop and if it’s a lane for me to run, I’m going to take that lane. And if not, I’m going let my try to let my receiver get open much as I could. I can’t throw it from the pocket when I can’t throw it from the pocket with the pocket collapsing. It’ be intentional ground, especially with no one going on outbreak routes, you know. So, I rather not take 15 yards back. I’d rather take that little five yard sack, 10 yard sack instead of 15. We hear the the point coming off a tough team as a team rebounding. How important are the the the leadership on the team like yourself to kind of set the tone in the locker room and kind of bold and move forward from that? Um I feel like extreme it’s extremely important, you know. Uh guys look to me, you know, for that leadership role, you know, so I’m going to try to do the best of my ability to let those guys know it’s on like, you know, we got to tighten up. Even though we wanted to, we was there last year, but it’s that’s not pretty to be sitting at, you know. you trying to It’s a long season ahead of us, but we got to just lock in. You guys have scored quickly a lot this year, which is obviously a great thing. But are there times in a game where you would like a longer drive, a more sustained drive to keep your defense off the field a little bit or can you not really afford to think about it that way? No, I don’t think about it like that. You know, if anything, let’s score again fast. You know, um if that team is having a a game on the opposing team, offense is having a day, we still got to put points on the board. We can’t rely on slowing down cuz go back to Bill’s game when we did that, those guys made a comeback. So, we just got to do our job and put points on the board each and every job if we could. How close do you feel like you guys are to, you know, executing the way that you feel like, you know, you can? I feel like we close, you know, we just got to be consistent if anything, you know, um cuz we do it. We put 30 some points up uh against the Lions, you know, put 40 points up Buffalo, Cleveland. We just got to be consistent. That’s the biggest thing for us right now. Good. 371.
