At this point ‘Ask Madden’ would be a better OC than anything we’ve had since Todd Haley. Even when they win the coaching philosophies get old.

  1. Tomlin is in charge of the offense, and her prefers the old ways vs the high powered offenses we see today.
Edit: lmao downvote into oblivion because Steeler fans don’t like my comment that Tomlin is calling the shots on offense. Well, I am tired of the conservative play calling.

  2. It’s ok, OC #4 will change everything. It’s gonna be magical. You’ll see. You’ll all see.

  3. Idk why anyone thought the guy that just got ran out of Atlanta and had it pushing the nuke it all button was suddenly gonna come here and be amazing

  4. What’s insane to me is it’s not just him. Across CFB and the NFL there’s a bunch of people who are coaching that you have wonder how in the fuck did they get that far. It’s insane that in 2025 80% of coaches on both levels are super incompetent and still getting paid millions/falling upwards.

  5. Tbh I don’t know why people just believe everything this dude says when it’s negative, but then call him a hack job when it’s positive

  6. Seeing as Fichtner, Canada, and now Smith have all pumped out these bland/conservative/outdated route trees and passing concepts. This has to be a Tomlin thing right.

  7. It’s been the same ultra conservative, low-risk, low-reward offense now through 8 years, 4 OCs and 7 QBs.

  8. Two guys are wide open for
Dump offs that can easily turn into minimum 5 yards.   This isn’t the play to call out Art.

  9. I don’t think it matters who the OC is. With Ben gone, Tomlin wants his OC to be conservative in the pass game (no turnovers) and run the ball effectively.

I can’t see Tomlin bringing in a up and coming guy that likes to experiment. Tomlin is a control freak.

  10. The team needs a plaque that reads, “Eh, it could be worse.” that the players touch on the way out to the field.

  11. Arthur Smith was always a somewhat lazy hire. I get why they did it but it was for all the wrong reasons, they don’t have prime Derek Henry or a decent offensive line. Smiths offensive concepts are dated and he significantly underachieved with decent skill players in ATL.

  12. Based on the chains and the OL position this looks like down and 15+, there are no good plays for 15+ that aren’t get the ball checked down and have your guy break a tackle. Which is what Muth is doing right there open over the ball with space or Warren open to the outside with 20 yards of space to ramp up.

I don’t think the offense has been great and it’s definitely schematically lacking but this is an odd play to use as a point

  13. Honestly even during the Todd Haley days, it was always talent is expected to win as the scheme. I clearly remember plenty Sunday’s when either A.) we played lesser talent who game planned us, n we struggled and/or loss to, B.) played almost or equal talent n would get our ass kicked but still cover the spread or C.) played equal or better talent with good coaching n we get blown tf out. Hell, on defense that’s the scheme as well 😂

  14. I think we have a lot of new players who don’t have chemistry yet. Playcalling isn’t the best. But being 5th in red zone percentage is pretty damn good evening with the small sample size. Rodger’s is 3rd (tied for 2nd) in passing touchdowns. If Muth learns how to catch a ball he’d have 2 more.

  15. We play on offense to not turn the ball over, not turn the ball over, and then also not turn the ball over. It’s boring and bland by design.

  16. They haven’t had a QB for years. I’m not sure they have one now. The scheme doesn’t matter when “serviceable” is the QB’s ceiling.

  17. It’s so crazy to me to hear people call football boring. Go watch the NBA if you want to watch jagoffs throw up threes every possession and miss it. High risk/high reward doesn’t equal a good team.

This team is looking better each week, give it time. The defense is running more stunts at the line and more blitzes and if you watch the defenses around the league, they seemingly all stink for some reason. Let this D get healthy and get more time together. GAHNTA

  18. That was the matt Canada strategy and our strategy on defense for a decade just go out and be better 😂😭😂😭

  19. Hot take: I think Smith’s play calling has largely been fine. This offense is just one-dimensional because the o-line has somehow gotten worse over the past two seasons.

  20. My biggest issue with the offense and whats so frustrating on Sunday, is that other teams can generate big plays. The Bills have virtually nobody at wr but can scheme guys open for 20 yard chunk plays over the middle. Chargers consistently feed Keenan Allen big 12 to 15 yards balls wide open. Burrow can hit guys for 20 yards at a time. Even Pennix and Daniel Jones have big shot plays down field. Why is our offense not capable of stretching the field and targeting in between the hashes? The whole offense is out routes, dump offs, and the occasional sideline go route.
