Sights & Sounds: Week 3 at New England Patriots | Pittsburgh Steelers

In the National Football League, nothing is given. Everything is taken. For the Steelers looking to get back in the win column, it was an opportunity to defeat New England on the road for the first time since 2008. Does have importance for a Steelers team not only looking to get back over 500, but also to improve to 2 and 0 versus AFC opponents. Too much need to be said. standard as a standard. Like Chuck said last night, us as a Dline, us as a defense, we ain’t been playing up to that standard. Today, we got to show something. [Music] An AFC matchup with the only two teams to have won six Super Bowls. [Music] Early on, Pittsburgh set the tone on defense with 15-year veteran Cam Hayward leading the way. Man on a second and six in the shotgun. Gesturing to his left now. Settles back in. Gets a snap. Back to pass. Looking right. Now steps up in the pocket and it’s going to be taken down. A sack on the play as Cam Hayward gets in there and drops him for a one-yd loss at the 30. May under center. The turn to give to Stevenson. Straight direction. Now the ball is loose. The ball is loose and it is picked up and it’s recovered by the Steelers. Slay at the 45 yd line of the Steelers wandering back trying to cut back and finally taken down at the 46. Good strip set. Good recovery by Slay. It was a scrum at the bottom. Steelers get the ball near midfield. This is a good sign. It’s good omen. money, brother. Let’s go. The takeaway gave the Steelers a short field and they capitalized. The Steelers have the ball in Patriots territory on their opening drive at the 49 yd line. Warren is to the right of quarterback Aaron Rogers and Warren will throw out quickly to Metaf. He’s got those big blockers in front and straight down the left sideline across the 40 and down to the 35 maybe the 34 yd line is where they’re going to mark it. Now Rogers now the pitch to Warren. Warren off the left side cuts back to the right finds a gaping hole and picks up first down yardage as he will rumble for 10 yards off the left side. Now Rogers turns and gives to Warren. Warren will make a man miss and slashes through the hole and picks up positive yardage down to the 15 yd line. Two great runs, two nine yd runs cuz it’s not quite explos like nine and 3/4ers again. Jeez, we just can’t get the 10th yard platform 9 and 3/4. That’s right. Little Hogwarts Express there. Gainwell the lone set back has his heels in the 10 yd line. Ball marked on the one. The pitch to game to the left. Gainwell sprinting and he is in for the score. Kenneth Gainwell touchdown Steelers. An impressive opening drive set up by the fumble recovery. Welcome Mr. Gainwell to the touchdown club here for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Beautiful job. [Music] Hey, one more baby. After the offense found the end zone quickly, the Steelers first round pick was able to make an impact in his first regular season game action. Third and five now. May is in the shotgun. Three receivers to his right as he gets a snap. Back to pass, looking right under duress and down he goes and another sack and it’s Cam Hayward in there along with Derek Harmon. Welcome big fella to the NFL. We were worried about whether there was going to be a snap count. Whether there was going to be caution, put kick gloves on him. No, no, no. You let that big land manual go. What was that game? That was nice. That was nice. The Steelers kept rolling. First down at the 36. Ball in the left hash. Now Rogers gets a snap and turns and gives. This is Gainwell. Gainwell starts left, bounces it to the outside to the right and is going to pick up solid yardage. You know what that is? That’s an explosive play right there. That’s an explosive play out of the running game. Rogers gets the snap. Patriots bringing pressure. Rogers over the middle of the field. It is complete. Jonnu Smith on the slant and down to the 30 yd line of the Patriots. Another explosive play. Now Rogers snap loft end zone caught DK Metaf along the right sideline. Touchdown Pittsburgh Steelers. Beautifully executed pass right down the sideline. Back shoulder fade. DK goes with a jump ball action. Snatches the ball out of the air from the defensive back which was Carlton Davis the third. And double toe tap. And we have a TD and another score for this Steelers squad. Two for two on drives. Hey, congrats, baby. Yes, sir. [Music] With the Patriots being down early, secondyear quarterback Drake May looked to dig his team out of their foxhole. 13-20 in counting. Second quarter, Steelers leading 14 to nothing. May under center. Playaction pass rolling out to the right being chased by Harmon gets around him and now we’ll find some running room up the right sideline and skitters out of bounds near midfield. A pickup of 15 yds and another first down for the Patriots. Two receivers to the left as May gets a snap. Going to throw to the left on a slant to Stefon Diggs and Diggs is taken down immediately but picks up a first down inside the 30 and down to the 27 yd line. It’s now marked in the 5 yd line in the left hash. May under center receiver out in the formation. May back. Oh boy, he left Hunter Henry wide open and Henry scores a touchdown. Easy pitching catch on a playaction pass and the Patriots at the 901 mark have a chance to make this a seven-point game. The Patriots would keep the momentum and look to tie the game late in the second quarter. Third and 10. May throws out to the right flat. Stevenson is wide open, crosses the 30, the 35, the 40, and out to the 48 yd line. Just a simple toss on a release pattern by Stevenson. A huge gain of 23 on third and 10. And now a third and 13 for May. Gets the snap back to pass looking. Has a pocket, steps up, throws, and has a man open over the middle of the field. And it is booty. And it is a first down for the Patriots at the 35 yd line of the Steelers. The Patriots were knocking at the door, but Captain Cam and the Steelers defense would answer the call. Third and goal from the three. And here’s a snap. Back to pass. May looking fires toward the end zone. Intercepted. Brandon Eckles steps in front of the intended receiver and comes away with the INT for the Steelers. Cam Hayward tipped the ball. Brandon Eckles playing trail coverage. Just jumps up and catches it. Takes a knee in the back line of the end zone. [Music] All the way up. Back it up. Back it up. All the way up. Coming out of the half. It was a defensive battle and both offenses struggled to get things going. Third and they’re going to call it 10. Just inside the 35 yd line as Rogers gets the snap, fires, and it’s picked off. It’s picked off by Spalain. Splain heading up the right sideline looking over his shoulder trying to avoid tacklers and rumbles down inside the 15 and down to about the 12 yd line of the Steelers and a disastrous start to this second half for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Once again, the Patriots were poised to tie the game and once again Cam Hayward had other ideas. May under center gets a snap will give to Stevenson and Stevenson off the right side. Stevenson’s in the end zone, but the ball is loose. Is this a fumble? Is this a fumble? Steelers, now they’re conferring the officials. Payton Wilson has it. The Steelers defense has done it again. Another turnover in the end zone. Just three minutes later, history repeated itself. Oh, Gibson is hit by Peppers. And does Peppers have the fumble recovery? He does. Jabril Peppers comes in, comes up with a hit and creates a fourth turnover for the Steelers. How we play is going to determine the success of this whole deal. Beautiful. Okay, now let’s finish the job, right? It doesn’t matter. The process has to be the process and it’ll lead to the results that we want. After a scoreless third quarter, the Patriots were on the hunt again to find the end zone. Under two and a half minutes remaining here in this third quarter. Playaction pass. May back throws back to the left. It has Hunter Henry with Hulkcom in trail coverage. Races up the left sideline out of bounds at the 24 yd line of the Steelers and another first down. May gets a snap back to pass looking throws over the middle of the field. It’s Hunter Henry and it’s a touchdown for the Patriots and they are an extra point away from tying this game. With the score in a gridlock, Pittsburgh needed a spark. Balls at the 33 yd line. May in the shotgun. Back to pass. Pump fake. Has some time. Rolls to the left. Now back to the right. Steps up and down he goes. And the ball’s loose. And it’s recovered by TJ Watt. A strip sack. A Watt recovery as Herbig got home and knocked it away. A fifth fifth turnover created by this Steelers defense. That’s five. Tell him, tell him to the mic. That’s five. Let’s go. Rogers and the offense went right back to work. Under center is Rogers. Playa action pass. Back throwing has Warren out of the left flat. Straight up the middle of the field. Makes a man miss. Weaves forward. Gets inside the 35 yd line and down to the 33 of the Patriots. It is a second and 16. Rogers back in the shotgun. Gets a snap. Back to pass. Looking throws to Gainwell. Screen to the left side. Gainwell cuts toward the middle of the field, crosses the 20 and barrels forward. Rogers breaks the huddle with the ball marked at the 17 yd line. Raises the foot, gets the snap, back to pass, looking, throwing left towards the end zone. Back shoulder. Touchdown Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s Calvin Austin in the end zone. Rogers to Austin. Second touchdown pass of the game for Rogers. And the Steelers have retaken the lead at the 216 mark of the fourth quarter. Up top coach up top. I did the same. I did the same release but Oh my goodness. And when the Patriots had one last chance, the defense shut it down. May back to pass. looking pump fakes is hit in the backfield shrugs it off hit this time doesn’t shrug off TJ Watt back at the 40 yd line second sack of the game for Watt and the Patriots need to use a timeout if you’re going to if this is a moment to turn somebody away on fourth down this is the moment Rob King fourth and a long one ball spotted at the 29 yd line of the Steelers see this creeping up to show pressure here they come May throws out to the left to Pop Douglas who stepped backwards and his tackle. I don’t know whether Pop Douglas would have had the first down, but Eckles made sure he didn’t. And the Steelers have turned over the Patriots on downs. The Steelers have found a way to win thanks to an heroic effort by this defense. That’s the end of the game with the final score. The Steelers 21, New England 14.

  1. I really hope we beat the Vikings. Would be huge to go into the bye 3-1. Especially with two divisional games following. Sucks that the bye is so early tho

  2. This was personal for me. It feels great & refreshing to finally win in Foxborough against the Deflatriots for the first time in 17 years 🥹 (Yes, very ugly win no doubt, and if this team wants to compete, they need to look at the film and take things as if they lost, but I wanted this shit more than anything)

  3. I love a Steeler win, just because it assures the rest of my day and week won't be ruined but I have not enjoyed a Steeler sunday in many years. The stress and gnashing of teeth are off the charts these days. It's getting way worse the older I get.

  4. So looking at this game. Defense did there job creating turnovers. However

They were like swiss cheese on 3rd down and allowing passes down the middle.

I hope porter and elliott come back cause maybe that will tighten down then defense.

Offensively was a sh!t show. Steelers still cant run the ball. They can't even move the ball downfield. I really hope they beat the vikings and then really use the 2 weeks to get healthy and practice offense and defense.

  5. It’s just gotta be coaching at this point right? I’m just not sure how they go from effortlessly moving down the field in the first 2 drives and then not even be able to get a first down for the next 45 minutes of football. This is what’s really scary, and all fingers now have to point to coaching and not adjusting to the other team’s adjustments
