Just remembered we won’t hear Sam Rosen’s Voice anymore. I forget sometimes. I will miss his voice, games wont be fun without him.

  1. It’s part of the reason I’m not that invested in the Rangers this year. It won’t be the same. Of course he deserves to retire after all the years he dedicated. But the magic is now gone.

  2. Yes.. it hit me watching the preseason games so far. I was like “is this the away team broadcast?”

  3. We had a great run with Sam, let the guy retire. Kenny is excellent and you will grow to like him too

  4. No. Let’s be honest with ourselves. Th nostalgia of his voice is what kept us hanging on. He was not good at play by play for a good number of years.

Kenny Albert is at his peak and is probably the best hockey player by play guy in the country.

I can’t wait to hear him call this mediocre team all winter!!!

  5. I turned on the bruins game and out loud said who tf are these guys? Then i remembered oh yeah, Kenny and Dave, then i got sad. But time to move on, enjoy retirement Sam!

  6. Gonna be a slap to the face of reality in a few weeks. Simply put, it won’t be the same as a fan anymore. Good years or bad, we had Sam there as our TV dad. It’s like I lost a family member

It sure doesn’t help I haven’t felt this apathetic about the team since the dark ages while I was also in college. A bunch of quitters led by one of the worst GMs in all of sports.

Atleast if we had Sam he’d still some sort of joy to the situation

  7. Yeah, it feels gross, especially because of how dog shit the team was last year. Sam’s been the voice of the rangers since I started watching in the early 90s and like…I’m bereft.

  8. I do wish he’d hung on one more year so we could hear him call the centennial season, but I’m glad he went out on his terms. It’s gonna be odd not hearing him anymore for sure though. Joe too.

I am happy we have a familiar voice in Kenny though. That’ll make the transition a lot easier than if we hired someone random

  9. Was weird to not hear Sam’s voice but liked hearing Maloney over Joe; not that Joe was bad or anything tho

  10. It will be different not hearing him. However I think with Kenny moving to the TV booth, we will not miss much on the broadcasts.

  11. Whats going to hurt most is the first game when they honor eddie giacomin , wont be the same without hearing sam talk about him

  12. I missed not hearing Sam as he was always animated. Joe was quiet but complimented him well. Miss hearing Joe apologizing to Sam for interrupting him at times.
I don’t mind Kenny and Dave but it’s going to take a while to get used to them.

  13. it felt so weird to hear highlights with Sam’s commentary last night at the Garden knowing i won’t be hearing him on the broadcasts anymore

  14. I’ll miss him, but I really like kenny and dave – we really have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to broadcasts. imagine if we had the fucking lightning guys. a 100 year old homer.

  15. Honestly, no! I mean, yes I will miss him. But I’m so happy he (and Joe) have a chance to enjoy time with family and enjoy their legacy. We’re in good hands with the new crew, and Sam gets to hopefully have a nice long retirement.

  16. It’s something I knew I had to come to terms with eventually. I’m still not processing how this day finally came though. At least Kenny is a familiar voice that I’ve been hearing for awhile. Shit even my 4 year old for almost the past 2 years can hear his voice and go “dad are you watching rangers!?”

  17. I’m gonna miss him but I have a gut feeling this team is gonna suck for a while. I rather him enjoy retirement than call games for a team that’s going nowhere. I mean I hope I’m wrong but can someone tell why this team will be any good? Seriously.

  18. Sam was, like many others in this thread have mentioned, the only voice of the Rangers I’ve ever known. It was a bit jarring not hearing him on the home broadcast.

I remember when the Sam and JD split happened it felt really strange for a little while but I grew to love Joe just as much and am also really sad that he’s gone.

All that being said, I really enjoyed Kenny and Dave last night and I think they’ll be up there with the best booths in the league. Kenny is the quintessential sports announcer. Great delivery and clear. He calls all the big national games, so that’s kind of cool that our guy is the league’s top guy.
I really like Dave too. Great commentator and he gets fired up lol

  19. No not really. He retired at the right time. Kenny is great and Dave has been with the Rangers for a very long time and provides a lot of insight to players from the past. Like he did with stories about Booby Orr, Brad Park and Eddie Giacomin the other night. I like the new combo.

  20. Can’t say for sure but I hope it will get easier, Sam may be out of the booth but he will forever be the voice of the New York rangers

  21. I honestly ended up muting Kenny and Dave last night…. No energy, dull, and just not it. I’m sure they’re both quite knowledgeable, but in my opinion, those two were an instant snooze fest!
