[Bannon] #BlueJays officially announce the signing of Korean international pitcher Seojun Moon. 18 y/o right-hander who posted 2.18 ERA in High School. The Dodgers were very interested, per source, but Toronto was able to pry him away.

  1. I assume he found out Kpop Demon Hunters was written by a Korean Canadian from Toronto. Take that, LA!

  2. I was gonna ask about when this was becoming official. Gotta spend up that Myles Straw money!

  3. It’s easier to see how the Dodgers can’t keep pitchers healthy during the season than not.

  4. Do you think rising political tensions in America might make international free agents more likely to come? Or am I just coping.

  5. First getting Ryu and then Moon, if Jays can start building a fan base among fans over there, they could start getting more guys interested in coming here.

It’s like how you see the usual teams like Dodgers, Mariners, Cubs, Yankees getting the big name guys from Japan, because they’ve built a fan base with the players they’ve had from there over the years and players/agents remember that.

  6. The Blue Jays certainly had some International Bonus money to burn, good to see them putting it to good use.

  7. Always remember Ryu wearing 99 and being a very good pitcher for us in and around the Covid years.

I wonder if the way he praised the Jays staff/management for how welcoming they were and how well treated he and his family were during their time left a lasting impact on South Korean players who may want to make a jump to the MLB.

No idea if this is the case here but how awesome would it be if it was.

  8. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jays being in Canada helped him with his decision. Sure, all away games are in crazytown, USA – but at least he can avoid more if it here.

  9. Is it wrong to take glee that we pried him away from the Dodgers? I still have PTSD from the summer of almost getting Ohtani

  10. International free agents should look to Toronto as a preferred destination with the current mess south of the border. We have our own problems. Hopefully the jays might have an advantage for once.

  11. Phew! It’s about time. Maybe baseball isn’t rigged to support Los Angeles and New York after all… lol.
