Red Sox vs. Blue Jays Game Highlights (9/24/25) | MLB Highlights

After beating the Blue Jays in game number one, Garrick Crochet has the ball in game two. Max Sherzer going for the Blue Jays. A very interesting pitching matchup and an enormously important game for both of these teams. The Blue Jays trying to hang on to a division lead and the Red Sox trying to solidify a playoff spot. Reflecting on his last outing there in Kansas City, Sherzer admitted that everything that could go wrong did. said postgame, quote, I took a haymaker to the face. We’d pitch in the upper 90s for an awful lot of his career. That’s not the case anymore. And he’s got to mix his pitches very, very precisely. And he does there with a change up that Durant swings through for out number one here. Now, Trevor Story looked great again in batting practice. And a little blooper in left field. That’s going to drop down for a base hit. Red Sox have their first base runner against Sherzer tonight. A single for Trevor Story. Swing at a line drive, base hit. That’ll scoot off into right field. with a single. Trevor Story down to third and a Red Sox intent on getting some early runs off Sherzer. First and third with one gone here now. Yoshida the Blue Jay killer. Left-handed hitter swinging a track on the right field line. Trouble it. There it is. It’s into the corner. Story will score. Bregman will head to third. Masataka Yoshida get him a Canadian passport. It’s an RBI double and the Red Sox lead it one to nothing. Incredible what happens when he faces this team. Not only do the Red Sox get one in, they got him at second and third with one down for Romy. There’s another one. That’s going to be Looped in the left field from a base hit. Breman is in to score. Here comes Masa. The throw to the plate will be cut off and the Red Sox are on top three to nothing against Max Scherzer. That is four consecutive hits. Troubles continue for Max. Little breaking ball stays up and Romy continues to do it. Whether it’s righties, whether it’s lefties, he’s a guy that you viewed as maybe a situational player. He’s played himself into an everyday job here at second base. Four consecutive hits here after the strike out of Durant. Yeah. Kind of like the start in Kansas City. And you feel good about this guy in the mound today. Garrick Crochet. When you traded for him in the off season, when you gave him the six-year $170 million deal, you were just hoping he would become the pitcher that he is for you this year. Blue Jays are admired in a cold stretch here over their last say eight games. And put him away with that sweeper. He strikes him out. First one tonight. This is what a comfortable swing. That is the strikeout number 250 on the season. This is hooked down the left field line. Speaking of quality at bats, Ernie Clement will make the turn and head to second. Yeah, I really like the fact they put Clement in that two spot tonight against Crochet. is a very good fast ball here. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the plate. He’s going to hit a little trickler here. Back to Crochet. Runner holds at second and two down. Popped up into right field. A Breu toward the line over to his left. He’s got room. He makes the play and the inning is over. Little mini oink from Crochet as he saunters off the mound. For the first time in a long time, Anthony Santandere in the box for the Blue Jays. Like he went, he did. He did appeal to Minsky and he says yes. sets a strike out for Garrick Crochet. His second K and there are two outs in the bottom of the second. Chopper on the right side. Second baseman Romy’s got it. Throws to first in time and the inning is over. And Connor Falefa who can also run replaces Straw at first. One down. Swinging a hard hit ground ball to short. Story gloves to his left. He flips to second for one onto first in time for two. 6 43 induced by Garrett Crochet who hits 200 innings for the season and he posts another zero. It’s a leadoff single for Boston and Sherzer gets Narvay for out number one and got him again. Second time tonight that Sherzer has struck out Durant on the ground at third stumbling picks it up throws to second to Schneider to get the force out and end the top of the fourth. Trouble looming there but Sher gets out of it. Two hits against Crochet in this game. He looks excellent. Vlatty swings and a comebacker on a line up the middle. That can’t stop from Romy. He rises and throws out Vlatty at first. What a play. Highway Robbery as he continues to play excellent defense. Great athlete. Covers a lot of ground. Gets up quick. Kind of sets his feet enough to get something on this throw. That’s a beautiful play by Romy. Such a high level. Two-way for Kurt. First pitch swinging. A bouncer to first. low backhands and he flips to the covering crochet and the inning is over promptly. A seven pitch one, two, three, bottom of the fourth with some fine defense from Romy Gonzalez in second. Red Sox up here three nothing to the fifth inning. Masa with a double in the first inning when the Red Sox jumped on Sherzer swinging a high drive. Got a hold of this one. This is way back and she is gone. Home run Masa Taki Yoshida to make it four to nothing. Man is he feeling good. Wow. He doesn’t want to leave. play more games up here in Toronto. There is a chance he could be back here next week. Masa loves hitting in this ballpark against this ball club. The last home run he hit I think was off a position player, right? Third of the year after a Masitaki Yoshida homer. 4 nothing the Red Sox lead. Bottom of the fifth is strike three called. Hello. 97 mph fast. Doesn’t help when you’re getting calls like that. Well above the zone and the Blue Jays have a base runner with two outs. Yeah, let’s see if the Blue Jays can get something going here. Here’s Miles Straw liner to third. That play is made by Bregman and the inning is over. How about Garrick Crochet? 53 pitches through five innings. Bottom of the sixth. Four nothing Red Sox. Swing had a miss. He couldn’t reach it. 97 to strike out Connor Falefa. Two outs and the base is empty. 3-1 is swung on. It popped up into right field. The Brave backs up into the gap in right center. Camps under it and makes the catch and the inning’s over. Garrick Crochet is through six shutout innings. Jose Bereios comes into the game just the second time in the big leagues he will pitch out of the bullpen. Swinging a miss, he gets Story. One down. Bereos has made three starts against the Red Sox this season. Popped up right side of the infield backtracking. Guerrero onto the turf in shallow right falls off. Schneider makes a two-handed catch and there are two down. Seems like the stuff is pretty good. That last fast ball, that last sinking fast ball was 93 mph. Yoshida skips it right over the mound charging forward. Clement shortstop gloves throws over the first quickly in time to end a one two three. Top of the seventh. First time out of the pen since 2017. And Jose Bereios looks pretty sharp. Garrick Crochet really has still incredible velocity here in the seventh inning. 98 mph with that last fast ball. His winding is one two and on the inside corner again at 99 for strike three call. And Guerrero just got tossed out of the game. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been kicked out of the ball game. Gabe Morales, the homeplayed umpire, tossing Guerrero out. I don’t ever remember Vlad getting tossed up. I don’t either. I I didn’t think he was that animated. Now John Snider is having to follow him. Hey, who’s your number three hitter here in a tight game and that’s what got him run when he pointed to the ground and that ball was this far inside and that’s why he got thrown out. And again, maybe just another indication of the growing frustration that, you know, people on this roster are feeling right now given the struggles over the last week or so. David Popkins might not see the end of the ball game tonight and he won’t. So, Popkins is gone. Fans are on their feet booing because they’ve paid the price to watch Gabe Morales perform tonight. Not the amazing athletes on the field. Yeah, Pop just wanted to get thrown out of this ball game. That’s about two weeks of frustration right there from him. Swinging a line shot and Brickman snaps it on a line at third. hitting over. Seven shutout innings from Garrett Crochet and he takes Vlatty out of this game in the process. So now second and third with two down for Narvas. Got one and two to Narvz swinging a high drive in a right center field. Farel back at the warning track. He’s at the wall. He looks up and gone. Adio tapon threerun homer and the Red Sox in Toronto lead it 7 nothing again from Carlos Narvayas. Two nights in a row with an opposite field swing that may again put this game out of reach. Crochet has just been phenomenal and I I just don’t know how anybody could say definitively other than the erra that Scooble has a clear case to win the Sai Young. Two down, bottom eight. 0 and2 and it is strike three called on the outside corner. Oh, baby Crochet with an enormous strikeout on the outside corner. What an exclamation point and a signature start for the Red Sox ace. Payton to out of the pen looking to lock this one up. Red Sox in front. Seven to nothing. Connor Faleppa fouls one away. Strike one. This is hit well to the opposite field. It’s carrying and it’s gone. How about that? Oh my fast ball hit out to right by Ker Fa. His second home run of the season. And the Blue Jays on the board in the bottom of the ninth. They trail seven to one. Down and in ball four. Addison Barger takes a 10pitch walk to keep this game going and it is lined into right field of base set plays it on lock throws the first it’s in time the most unconventional way you will ever see to win a ball game and the Red Sox inch closer to the playoffs and the Blue Jays fall to the Red Sox 7 to1 putting their sole possession of the American League East in huge jeopardy.

  1. I'm a yankee fan and those call were terrible for the jays vlad getting tossed for pointing and barley an expression is crazy to me umps always in their feelings

  2. Nooooooooo!!! Why Blue Jays? Why? Is this what we get for all those 51st state jokes? Fair enough, but why do you have to let the Junkees of all teams win the division?! It's not fair! Rob Manfred needs to be detained and questioned for this suspicious collapse. I'll bet his bank account's pretty chunky right about now. Rangersforever❤

  3. I think – and correct me if I'm wrong here – but I think that coach during the 7th was saying:
''guess who's not getting a holiday greetings card this year, my friend! I'm rather nonplussed with you at this moment!''

  4. Sherzer not looking too good in his last 2 start…and boy do they miss Bichette!…if it wasnt for Springer in the last month they might not have cllinched!

  5. To the people who thought the umpire was shrill– you ARE automatically ejected if you argue balls and strikes. Been that way for 20+ years.

So if I'm ticked that a called strike was at my collarbone, I'd make it count…

  6. Blue Jays are flat to the boards. Scherzer shouldn't pitch again in a Toronto uniform, he's done. Bieber is another outing away from a possible Tommy John surgery. Gausman and Yesevage remain the only bright spots in their starting rotation which is about the third oldest in the Majors, if you leave Trey out. The true franchise player is on the sidelines and if things go really bad (and the BJ lose in the first round), we'll never see him in a Jays uniform again.

  7. Bad time for the Jays to slump – but didn’t help with the worst home umpiring I’ve seen this season. The Boston strike zone was whatever they wanted it to be!

  8. Clement has to finish his swings by holding the bat to the end of the swing as I see other hitters doing that's why the ball lands just inside the fence, by holding on through the swings they retain the lost power to hit over the fence, also Bieber and Scherzer needs to take a seat now, there are several better pitchers in the bullpen like rookies and juniors that are way better than Scherzer and Bieber, they are finished thanks for the great years champs
