FULL INNING: Clayton Kershaw makes 1st regular season relief appearance since 2019! ๐Ÿคฉ

Well, for the first time since the last day of the regular season in 2019, Clayton Kershaw will pitch in relief in preparation for a role like this in October. Done it in the postseason throughout his career. Did it a couple times as a kid, his first couple years in the major leagues and then that last day of the regular season in 2019, getting ready to potentially do that in that postseason. And this was his idea. He went to Dave Roberts the other day and he said, “Hey, those two days, which would be my side work days in Arizona, I’ll be available out of the bullpen. I can read the room. I see that I’m probably not going to start games for this team in the postseason. Let me go get a little bit of work and what my role may be.” So, Clay Kershaw just seeing what the weakness is and doing anything he can to try to help. Tomorrow Vargas leads off and takes a strike. Froggy 91 from Kersh. Strike two. Here goes fast ball slider. Then the curve that popped out of his hand there. We’ll start on Sunday in Seattle to wrap up the regular season. He’s home with the one two coming off what he called a perfect night. His last start at Dodger Stadium last Friday. Here’s the 2-2. Bounce it to short for Betts. One away in the ninth. Center. Alec Thomas came off of the bench defensively last inning. Thomas hitting above 300 his last 10 games. First one from Kershaw. Two and0 after Thomas. It’s back to the top of the order in Catel Mart and a miss. Good slider depend on this late left on left. Freeman’s got it. Two out. Here’s Marte who’s got three hits tonight. One ball, one strike. The one-1 pitch and the dirt. 454th major league appearance for Clayton Kershaw. 45 of those starts. home with a two-1 pitch. Tried to find a change up on the outside corner, but it just missed. Just missed. So now 3-1. Marte takes strike two. Slider to the knees, runs it full. First relief appearance in six years for Clayton Kershaw trying to send this game to the 10th. His payoff. Marte flies it to right center field. Edmonds over. Edmond dives and makes the catch. That ball kept on peeling away from Tommy Edmond, but a Superman dive makes it a one, two, three relief inning for Kershaw. Onto the 10th in Phoenix.

Clayton Kershaw pitches a 1-2-3 9th inning for the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks on September 24, 2025.

  1. Thinking of the memorable shot of Walker Buehler last year getting the last out of the World Series being replicated by Kersh as the Dodgers go back to back and he goes off into retirement. A Hollywood ending when Hollywood was great! #LetsGoDodgers
