Demko, Chytil, Mancini & Adam Foote Post Game Media | Canucks vs. Flames (Sept. 24, 2025)
how it felt to be out here in Abbottzford and get in that game-like action. Yeah, it’s good. Uh I thought the guys played really well. Um you could tell guys were competing really hard. Um guys are trying to make the team, you know, it’s it’s good to see it’s good uh it’s good on everybody. Raises the pace. You know, it’s been been good in practice and it’s good to see it translate in the game. So, um yeah, it was nice to be out there and nice to uh you know, play a game in front of the Abbeby fans. Love to see a lot of shots. You didn’t see a lot of rubber in a game like that batch. You concentrate more on technique or I didn’t think it was that bored. Um probably had 13 15 shots. So, uh yeah, it was good. Uh obviously you’re probably going in the game with a couple things that you’re focused on. Um you know, result probably not being one of them, you know, first preseason game. So, just trying to uh like you said, probably focus on some technique things and um just get used to the pace, get used to the bodies in front of you. You know, it’s hard to to find the puck sometimes when there’s, you know, a lot of extra bodies out there um more than you’re used to in a practice anyway. So, um yeah, definitely able to pull some things from it for sure. What did you see from the guys in front of you? You had some defenseman there that are that are on the bubble pretty close. Did you like what you saw? Yeah, I thought uh like I said, I I I think guys were competing really hard and um you know, it’s pretty evident that guys are working for each other, skating for each other, which you know, when guys are doing that, I think everyone looks a little bit better. So, um I was really impressed with our Dore tonight. Um especially the young guys obviously know what you’re getting out of Myy and Marcus and those guys. And um yeah, really impressed with those guys, too. What were your takeaways from Toillo’s performance? Yeah, I thought he looked good. I mean, it’s never easy coming in. It sucks quite frankly. um as a goal, you know, coming in cold. Um but, you know, I think everyone’s had to do it at one point or another. So, um yeah, he did a good job and, you know, he had to kill a penalty pretty quick there uh coming in the game, which which is hard. So, um impressive by him, too. Is it different for you coming into a first preseason game, you know, when when you didn’t finish the year healthy versus when you when you do in terms of what you try to work on and what you’re looking for in your own game? Not really. Um I think it’s all pretty much the same. uh you know, obviously not being uh you know, not seeing game action here for a few months just like everyone else. So, um like I was saying over here, you know, you’re just kind of picking a couple things um that you’re focused on going into the game and you know, I can kind of cross a couple things off my list and and my next preseason game I can and add add a few and just kind of keep building my game towards uh the first first game of the season. What do you take away from that performance both from a personal perspective and a team perspective tonight? Yeah, I think it’s been uh yeah, it was better than uh the last game and it’s going in a good direction and uh yeah, I personally felt better than the first game. Do you like the fact you’ve been in a couple games here early in the preseason? Can get that feel for game action? Yeah, of course. even the scrimmage what he played uh the last day at Pentictton and Herald Per and uh yeah it was long time what we didn’t play a actual game so yeah uh I felt I felt much better how I say I felt much better than on Sunday and uh it’s why play why we play preseason it’s it must go in a good direction camp is pretty long so we have to go there day by day and uh that’s what I focus on right now you took a stick to your face just before your goal any damage. You got that high stick. Uh no, you just got mad and scored then. I No, I didn’t score first. I missed the breakaway first, but yeah. Uh I scored after that, but yeah. Uh I’m good right now. What did you like about your game tonight? You seem to be playing at pace, making plays. Did you just feel better tonight or? Yeah, it was a little uh it was a little different now than the first game. Of course, we didn’t have to travel that much and uh we had day off couple days ago, so it helped also. And yeah, I felt like my feet were moving great today. And uh but how I said it’s still uh a long time uh before I I will get to my best and uh that’s why I go day by day in preseason. Oh, a couple preseason games in. How have you felt about how they’ve both gone for you? Uh overall, pretty good. Um, happy with today. Felt like I, you know, took another step from, uh, Sunday to today. So, um, yeah, and happy we got the win as well. I think that was really important. Uh, I think everyone, you know, played a role in today’s win. So, it was fun to be a part of. How cool was it to have all the five guys from the Cup winning team in the starting lineup there? Yeah, it was really cool. I think, uh, I’ll remember that for a while. It was pretty fun. Um, good to be back in the building. Everything you talked about, you kind of did tonight. You checked a lot of box boxes, wheeling the puck around the net, uh hitting guys, being in the offensive zone, scoring. Did you check just about every box you wanted to tonight? I thought I played to my strengths pretty well today. Uh I thought I played my game. Uh I know I consider myself a bit of a harsh grader, so there’s still uh a few things that I I want back and I want to work on, but uh just go look at the video tonight or tomorrow and and uh yeah, make adjustments. I gave you an A, so yeah, I’ll take it. You get Demco and Tolapilo in net tonight. I mean that goalie tandem, where was your confidence level with those guys? Really confident. Uh it’s it’s fun playing in front of those guys. Uh definitely uh just kind of their calm demeanor in in the net calms you down as well and uh always nice they kind of got your back just in case. But uh both of them played really great today. Another strong outing for you tonight, but there’s a lot of competition going into Vancouver. So how do you feel that you kind of separate yourself from the rest of your peers? Uh, I’ve said it before, I’m just kind of staying committed to to the process and taking things day by day. Um, you know, just kind of focusing on myself and what I can do to to help this team, help this organization, but also um, you know, put myself in the in the best position possible. With Niels, can you give us an update on Yeah, lower body. They’re going to evaluate it when they get back. So, you concerned it might be more than just a little bit of a minor thing yet? We’ll find out tomorrow or when the docs see them. Hopefully, it’s not going to be too much, but we’ll see. How pleased were you with the performance overall tonight? It was good. I mean, you know, still preseason and early Calgary, they got some heat at home, right? And things like that, but I was, you know, like we’re playing fast hockey. It seemed like we were going um tonight we’re doing the things we asked to do, applying some of the things in practice, and you know, it was good. How much do you like what you’re seeing from some of the young D right now? They’re good. I mean, they’re all working hard and um there’s a good game for them tonight to be in um and seeing he made some good plays. Uh you know, he’s got that explosiveness and he hit those goals, but there’s little things that I think Dean will really help him with. Um the little things that uh he’ll be able to clean up. Thatcher kind of spoke to the fact of how hard it is to go in cold in that third period and did just that. What did you think of his performance in that 20 minutes? Yeah, I thought Totolo was great. I came in and he had to make a couple big saves, but going back to Thatcher, I really went he’s got good hands, but if you go back to last season when he came back off his injury compared to now, he’s around these pucks, he he was so solid with his decisions with the puck, but he also looked like he was getting around so that it wasn’t spinning on him, so it was even better. And then he didn’t have much action going on for a while. But then he had a barrage. We had a little bit of a breakdown and you don’t want that as a coach to see the breakdown, but love to see how square he was the pucks. Like he came out on two great A’s and just like he just knew what he was doing and it hit him and dropped. It It was good to see. You put Philip Heedle in two games already. What is he shown you in terms of trying to help solidify things down the middle? Yeah, you know, tonight was um you know, you play your first game. It’s hard to evaluate guys in the first game actually throughout his summer, but that was much better here. Scott Young worked a lot with him over some things um you know, in his rush when when to handle through guys and when not to, things like that, and I saw an improvement there and I just felt like he was playing a little bit more zip tonight. Now that you’re finished training camp and into some uh preseason games, you got two under your belt. What do you think about, you know, your systems and how they’re being implemented in the game? Yeah, it’s it’s a process, right? And you know, a game like tonight, we had more younger forwards and they were rolling with it, you know, and they were having a little bit of success because they weren’t turning pucks back. When it was time to go, they went and um you know, we were early to get them back off it and then we were able to open up some rush plays and they were finding some rush and um they were pretty overall disciplined in their F3. So, it was like we were coming with waves, so it was nice to see. Do you have any idea, you know, maybe when the next wave of roster cuts will be? possibly.

That is not a good sign. Why is foote insulting one of his players that had a great game?
Foote if you read this; Its fine to have critiques, but you will make players depressed if you nitpick like this to the media. You could simply say,
"He's improving leaps and bounds, and it is so much fun to work with him. He is so focussed on becoming even better than he is, that we really have a star in the making"
