Astros: Not up to the task, the playoffs are more of a dream than reality

Well, it appears that our worst fears are coming to fruition as we speak. The Astros, a lifeless group, guys that look unmotivated in a team unprepared to take on the homeless athletics. Let’s talk about it right now. Diaz, this is Lock on Astros. Hello and welcome to Locked on Astros, your daily Astros podcast. Here are your hosts, Eric the Man Heisman, and Brett Htown Wheelhouse Chansy. We are locked on the Houston Astros. We hope that you join us for our daily locked on Astros podcast. Thank you for making us your first listen on Apple Odyssey, Spotify, wherever you listen your podcast. Go and check us out. Um, yeah. I was just doing that on purpose just cuz that’s kind of how we all feel right now. Astros Nation is kind of um feeling like the Astros look a little bit lifeless. So, that’s why I kind of threw that in. And uh guys, thank you for bringing life into the Locked on Astros podcast. Thank you for making us your first listen. Apple, Odyssey, Spotify, wherever you listen your podcast, go and check us out. Go and make us your first listen as we try to get to 16,000 subscribers. So, uh, thank you for everybody that makes the Lockdown Astros Nation your first listen. And don’t forget that we will be here all off season. Uh, whatever is going on during the uh, the postseason without the Houston Astros will be here. I know they’re not eliminated, but it sure feels like it. So Hunter Brown went out there and dealt uh he for the most part, but the defense let him down a little bit even though it wasn’t really the runs were all earned. Are the Astros out of luck? Are they running out of time? And even Dallas Braden of the AIDS broadcast just said that this team looks like it has no life. And so, oh, Brett, I don’t know if you saw Job Spatada, he actually came out and made that little uh I don’t know if he I’m sure he addressed the locker room, but he said had some comments after yesterday’s game that we’ve been waiting for. It wasn’t just, oh, we had good at bats. Um, they had good pitchers. He was actually calling out the team. And you would think that maybe that the team would respond. No. Well, okay. Here’s a problem with Joe Espata saying that right now is that’s lip service. That’s what you call it. Um Jo Espatada, where was this when your club was failing away a six and a half, seven or eight game lead in the division? Like where where was this talk? Where was this passion? Um I’m look and you know what’s funny? What’s ironic is everybody’s calling for AJ Hinch to be hired as the Tigers are falling apart right now. So, you want to get rid of one guy whose team is falling apart at the end of the season to bring back an old guy whose team is falling apart at the end of the season. But Joe Espada, just to me, has not convinced me that he has staying power. I don’t know that getting rid of Joah Spatada answers all the questions, but somebody’s going to have to be the fall guy for this season. And like I said last night, when you’re a coach, it is up to you to prepare the troops. It is up to you to get these guys ready, to get them motivated. And this is the most unmotivated bunch that I’ve ever seen. I remember Eric being at the 2023 game five of the ALCS. Now, let’s be perfectly clear. That was the last time that this team showed life in a postseason game. 2023, game five, ALCS. Bookmark it. Because what I saw in game seven of ALCS, players dejected, players giving up, players ready to just just go home and go on vacation, is exactly the same thing I saw tonight at the ballpark. I expected a different ball club. Hunter Brown is on the mound. You’ve got your ace out there and you go out there and you look absolutely like abject failures. I mean, you had no fight. Christian Walker got a double barely. Um, Jesus Sanchez looked awful out there. I mean, this team outside of Carlos Korea walking away from Joe Espada, it’s just, you know, another start for Hunter Brown completely wasted. Yeah. And you have to like that. You have to like Carlos Craig’s leadership. And he probably said to Joe, he’s like, “You got to do something to motivate this team. This team has no fire. And even in some of Crayas at the bats today, he didn’t look like he really had it today. And he looked really good playing shortstop. By the way, it reminds me how good he is as a shortstop. He’s been playing good third base. But, uh, in this game, you had Sanchez butchering some balls out in left field. I know it really didn’t factor a lot in, but it did. It really did. And when you have somebody that’s like it was it was right at him and he just really just didn’t even put the glove down. As a little league coach, that’s the one of the first things you do. You like teach him how to like cupp it and uh make sure you you watch the ball go into the glove. And Sanchez is a big league outfielder and he could not even do that. Th this team is not focused on it. I don’t know what they’re focused on because the Angels are not a great team. And you probably could have swept the Angels if you’re just playing good baseball. The Tigers are basically just giving you the wild card, but you can’t win any games. And it’s just so frustrating as fan. And I’ve been watching the Guardian and the Tigers team and both of them have a better lineup than the Houston Astros right now. The A’s have a better lineup than the Houston. Well, so I think the Guardians might I mean I don’t the Tigers do. The Tigers are pretty bad right now. The The Tigers are, you know, pretty awful. Um but, you know, Corbin is saying that Frober divided the team and I I kind of I kind of disagree with that. I I don’t think this is a frer issue. I think this is a team issue. I think this is a roster building issue. I think this is the issue of repeatedly bringing players back that don’t need to be coming back. Coming back too soon, rushing players. Phrases we’ve heard this season. Oh, we’re going to start doing more imaging. almost like we knew we weren’t really examining our players or that’s at least the perception. And what I’ve learned in business, what I’ve learned in life is perception is reality. Now, the perception of Framber Valdez dividing the team, that to the fan base is a reality because that’s what they feel. From Valdez will not pitch another game in an Astros uniform. He’s not going to sign here. They’re not going to give him the big contract he wants and he will move on. This team is absolutely cooked right now. They simply need to go back to the drawing board. Altuve is declining. Yordon Alvarez is made of glass. Jeremy Pñena is a leader and a superstar. You have Hunter Brown. Hunter Brown is a guy that you have to sign. But who do you have around these guys? Who else? You’re not going to depend on Jason Alexander for a full season. You’ve got to make some major moves this off season. You’ve got to non-tender or get rid of or DFA some people off of this team because the peacemealing the team and praying and hoping the glue sticks that is done. This is almost like it’s run by Drayton Mlan and not Jim Crane. So Jim Crane, stop acting like Uncle Drayton, you know, the guy who’s suing you for hundreds of millions of dollars right now and start acting like the owner that brought the first two World Series to this city. And quit acting like, and you know what, Dana Brown, you got some accountability, too. You brought in Jesus Sanchez. You brought in a lot of these guys that haven’t done well. So the blame isn’t just at one person or one player. The blame’s across the board. And so the Astros are gonna have to take ownership of this. This is the worst possible way. I mean, why would you not like to Why would you not try to fight for your lives and they may say they are, but nobody’s convinced of it. Nobody is convinced of that. Yeah. So, um, this is definitely something the Astros are going to have to take a hard look at themselves this off season. We talked about it off air. Uh, they’re probably going to have to clean house. Jesus Sanchez, he’s probably going to be non-gendered. Uh probably Luis Garcia will talk about what happened to him. He’s likely going to be non-tender. There’s going to be a lot of moves that probably they it’s not just on the coaches, it’s just the the players. It’s you have too many players that are just super aggressive and uh you need a change. You need something to go on. And I I think they thought that Carlos Korea would come here and fix everything. He did not. Uh you can’t fix the injuries. That’s something that Carlos Korea cannot do. So guys, uh we’ll go and continue discussion. Thank you for making Lock on Astros podcast your first listen every day. Well everybody, this episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Apple Odyssey, Spotify, wherever you listen podcast, go and check us out. And unfortunately, today is also the day that not only did Cal Rowley hit two home runs to hit to go ahead and reach 60 W home runs. So, he joined the 60 home run club, um it’s very elite company for the AL. I believe it’s a Babe Ruth and then you have um you have uh Aaron Judge and one other person did it. But basically the Astros um for the first time in a long time since 2017 did not win the ALS. I know you can you can look at what happened in that uh COVID shortened season and they didn’t really uh win the ALS but I don’t really count that. But this is the first time that the Mariners have won the AL West since 2001. The other two guys that hit 60 home runs, they were they were kind of a big deal. Babe Ruth and Roger Maris. I’m just saying. Oh, yeah. You’re like, somebody. No, I said Babe Ruth. I just couldn’t remember that guy. Roger Maris. Roger Maris. Yes. Um but yeah, man. Um yeah, I mean they’re over there doing it. They’re they are feeling it. And um when I was watching the recap, look, here’s the deal. The Mariners even won a game in a game that they didn’t even perform well. I mean, the game where they clinched the playoffs two nights ago, it wasn’t even a good game. The Mariners struck out 16 times, Eric. So, you’ve got a team over there that strikes out 16 times, and of course, it’s against the Rockies, but now you got the Astros facing the Athletics. you’re like, “Okay, at least match them game for game right now at this point.” And I don’t I don’t care if people say, “Oh, well, well, the A’s have our number.” I I don’t care. They’re the A’s. They’ve got less than 50 wins. There’s no reason why you can’t beat them. you score one run, a a feeble attempt or no runs or like it’s just you don’t even have a fighter’s chance this side of heaven of winning anything, let alone a little league softball game with this team. I mean, it’s that bad right now. And if I w if I was on this team, I would have a hard time finding motivation to play these next four games. Now, the crazy thing is if the Tigers go out and continue to lose and you just you you basically if you can win tomorrow and they can lose, okay, you’re tied. Then you’re tied and then you’ve got three games left. Believe it or not, the Astros could win a playoff spot the last game of the season. They’re not dead yet mathematically, but if they get into the playoffs, are they going to put up a fight? I I don’t I don’t see it like I want a miracle to happen. I want the Astros to go to the playoffs and shock the world. But until that happens, I’m going to have to see it to believe it. I’m not a believer right now. And I’m the always positive, always throws guy. That’s my lane. Nobody else corners that lane more than I do. But I’m also a realist and I just don’t see it. And I’m not saying give up, but at this at this point, what is the point? That’s what I’m saying. Yeah. So, go back to yesterday’s game on Tuesday when you had that after the game, you had that awkward um moment between Espatada and Carlos Cra. After the game, Espatada did say, “We have to get our bats going here. We’re running out of days, running out of games. We just need more consistent quality of bats. And then this is what Dubon said. Sometimes you go on a cold streak and it sucks for us. It’s happening right now towards the end of the year when we need it the most. It’s baseball. We have to wake up. Well, if you’re going to wake up and you’re going to be able to go to Cancun, as everybody’s been saying uh in the chat and in uh X, but yeah, you’re the season’s about to run out and unfortunately the like I said, the Tigers have basically letting you in and you just can’t seize the moment. Uh you’re just basically uh throwing up your mom’s spaghetti or whatever Eminem song is. But it just it’s just frustrating that you can’t I know the A’s, they’re going to be a tough team down the road. Their offense, especially with Nick Curts, uh is going to be tough to face. Uh if they ever get some decent pitching, I know that Luis Severino, this was his best pitch game in Sacramento this year. The first time he’s gone beyond what, five innings or six innings at home. I mean, what are we doing? Like, like I like I just I just I don’t I don’t have I don’t have any more words. Like like like I honestly honestly didn’t even want to do the podcast tonight. Um and you know that you you got my text. I had I had nodded off and fallen asleep. You know, I was more engaged in the Guardians Tigers game with the Tigers not even putting up a fight really. I was like, man, I wish we had Jose Ramirez on this team. Like, I was I was watching their I was watching their Wolf not putting up a fight. Oh, I’m sorry. The Tigers not putting up a fight. Yeah, the Tigers like I mean they had one run, but then the Guardians just were punishing them and the Guardians are are hot right now. Um the Blue Jays are hot right now. Um, you know, the Blue Jays. Anyways, we won’t we won’t get into that, but man, um, someone said, “No coaching, no discipline, no pitching, no hitting, no heart. Now, no fight.” You know what? Yeah. You’re not going to win a dang game in any sport in any competition. Checkers, chess, or shoots and ladders, I don’t care what the game is, you’re not going to win. And, um, there’s just no life left in this team, Eric. It’s it’s a hot mess. It’s it’s a it’s a steaming pile of garbage right now. And I will be shocked if they win tomorrow. And if they do, good job, guys. Good job. And if they win four in a row and they somehow make it to the playoffs. Look, I’m going to cheer for them. They’re my team. But what is hilarious is the day after they got swept, did you see how the Astros put up the tickets for sale for the ALDS and the wild cards? I’m like, I think that was already timed. And you can I’m pretty sure it was, but it was hilarious. Just like all the other things that have happened this season. Yeah. So, the Astros are on a fivegame losing streak. The Tigers are on an eightgame losing streak. It’s like, who doesn’t want to go to the playoffs more? Unfortunately, the Tigers have that little bit of advantage there. They have that oneame lead. I don’t think the Tigers are going to continue losing. They’ve been playing bad baseball, but at the same time, they’re eventually going to win a game here or there. Uh, if they do lose out for the rest of the season, lose the rest of the what, four games remaining, that will be epic downfall, and I’m pretty sure AJ Hench will get fired. But, um, the Astros just need to win like one or two games. But, like you said, what’s the point? I mean, at this point, it like they can’t even score any runs. Like, you had three singles today or two singles and then a double late in the game and that’s all the offense you had today. It was nothing. And I was really proud of Jose Alt leading off the game. He really worked Severino. He made him throw like eight pitches and drew the walk. And then uh you had Joe Espada switch up the lineup at the last second. He put parades batting second and then Carl’s Gray batting third, which I get, but at the same time, uh, Pradesh grounded into a double play and of course couldn’t run it out. And I promised myself I wouldn’t get mad at that. But then Carlos Craig had got a hit. So if you would have maybe had it the opposite way, maybe things would have be been a little bit different situation there. But that’s what Joe Spot has been doing. and he’s been switching up the lineup all year because they’re built for this. They’re built for dealing all dealing with all these injuries. And so, uh, one of the things we’ll have to do this off season is what are the slogans going to be? Oh, the slogan. God, they’ve I’m you know, honestly, we’re still good guys. I promise. Yeah. Can we just go back to remember like good guys? That was that was the ultimate like white flag before the season. Um, yeah. No, I’m just sitting here looking through the comments. You know, you know who’s having a blast right now is David. Our friend David’s back. He said, “I told you it was a matter of time. They’re trash.” And he spelled they’re wrong. But it’s they t h e y apostrophe re. They are trash. It’s it’s Yeah. Anyways, so um just look, if you’re going to if you’re going to insult the team, at least use correct correct punctuation. I can’t even talk right now. I’m so frustrated. I’ve got I’ve got Mariners fans on my live on TikTok right now. We got Mariners fans in here. Someone got built with injuries. Yeah, we were that built with injuries. How’s that? Or something. Or can Alvarez play a full season? That’ll be our slogan next year. Uh guys, thank you for making Lockdown Astros podcast your first listen. We’ll go and continue this conversation next on the Lockdown Astros podcast. Make sure you use our code so they know that we sent you. Can you imagine if the Astros had 36 hours of that intensity? That would be crazy. Yeah. But um the Astros have four games left remaining in the season. So, they need to figure out how to make the ball go further. How to hit the ball harder. Um, how to make better contact. Eric, Eric, see, okay, from now on, I’m reading that ad. You You totally Oh, you’re laughing in the background. I know. Hey, hey, hey, it’s okay. 36 hours built for this. That’s what we’re built for. Um, but yeah, man. I mean, you you got to find humor in something around here because this is just absolutely just just stinks, man. I mean, you got the gates wide open for you. And look, I’m I’m going to say this. I’m going to I’m going to throw a little water on the parade of Cal Riley winning the MVP, even though he got the 60 home runs. Aaron Judge over Cal Riley for me for MVP. And I’m not just saying it because just despite Mariners fans, but Aaron Judge leads in seven or eight major offensive categories in the league, okay, in the AL. Cal Riley leads in one. Cal Riley’s batting like 248. He’s got 60 home runs. But Aaron Judge is, go look at his offensive numbers. He ranks number one in seven of the eight categories in the eighth category. the eighth category that they that they count or that they look at, he’s second. So, I I I say why not give it to Aaron Judge? Like, if it’s your if it’s the most valuable player, but then again, is Cal Riley one of the main reasons that the Mariners are where they are today? Um, I just I just think that it’s it’s going to be a tight race. It’s going to be hard to sway the bias of voters in New York. And if Cal Riley doesn’t win it, it might be because a little bit of a media bias, but they’re going to be looking at the stat lines and he does reign in more stat lines than Cal Riley. Now, if Cal Riley wins it, a catcher’s never done what he’s done. So, there’s also a precedent that he’s set. And so, I’m just not convinced that Cal Riley’s the lock that everybody thinks he is. Well, Aaron Judge has a 8.9 war on this season. Cal Riley has a 6.9 war on the season. Okay. So, show Atani has a 7.5 war. I know we’re switching to the National League, right? Christopher Sanchez, the pitcher, has a 7.7 war. Paul Skins has a 7.2 war. So, those are the guys that have a higher war than Cal Riley. Like you said, he’s got those home runs, but the batting average is a little bit low. He does have the RBI, but Aaron Judge is more of the all-around player. He is a negative 0.6 defense war player, but um Cal Riley is a zero defensive war player, so he’s just average capture overall. But um I think that it’s going to be interesting uh thing. I think a lot of voters are going to be looking at the fact that he carried the Mariners back to the AL West, back to the postseason uh for the first time since 2001. or that. Well, hey, well, here’s the deal. Some Astros talk. Okay. Yeah. Jim Crane. Okay. I keep seeing this. Jim Crane is cheap. Jim Crane is cheap. No, he’s not. And this is what I put. I’m going to put my comment on the show. This is our show, right? Crane isn’t cheap. His ROI is off. His return on investment is off. He has spent, but he has spent in the wrong places. He has spent and taken gamble on players. You can’t help the four players that are down with injury right now. Okay. Um he spent five years ago on Lance McCullers Jr. That is his return on investment since the World Series of 2017 and maybe a little bit showing up in 22 really hasn’t done anything outside of that, right? So his return on investment go back to the Joseé Abrau signing and all that stuff. Lineup construction, who he’s brought in, who he’s gotten rid of. When you’re in business, you don’t necessarily necessarily look for the value that you got into your company. Now that that stuff is in your company or those or those assets are there, what is the return on investment? And the return on investment has been diminishing returns. And so Crane’s not cheap. He’s just spent in the wrong ways or he hasn’t had the opportunity and players that they wanted didn’t come here. they didn’t break their no trade clauses or they said I can say who want to go to and they haven’t wanted to come here and so you you do have some things like that Dylan cease and you wonder if you would have gotten a couple more pitchers had would that have changed if Jesus Sanchez would have been more like Jesus Sanchez before he got here but the return on investment is not there the money’s been spent he’s not cheap they’re a top five payroll you’re not cheap your your investment is just impro properly placed. And so I think they got to do a little bit of a a little mini cleaning house this off seasonason, Eric. And you’re going to see a different team when it comes to the 2026 spring training. And um just going back to the Astros right now, if you’re going to try to make a little mini run, Jesus Sanchez, let’s just go and and bench him. Um I’d rather see what Cam Smith can do. I rather if if we’re playing towards the future, let’s see what Cam Smith can do. Put him in outfield. Go and put him in right field. Go and put um uh Cole in left field. And let’s just gamble with that. I I know that um Cam Smith has not been the player that we thought he was, but even Carl Grath says he’s going to be a future superstar. So, let’s just give this kit a chance uh to see because Jesus Sanchez since he’s come to the Astros, he hasn’t done anything. I believe he’s batting 109 or 190 or one of those with the Astros. He is he’s not hit good. He has not played great defense. And um it’s not like the Astros gave up a lot to get him and they they just made a bunch of at the times we thought, “Oh, we we’re getting something for nothing.” That’s why we we got really excited about those deals. I think the main thing we liked was the Carlos Craya move because of we of Carlos Cra’s leadership and we seen it at the times help but overall Dana Brown did not do enough at the trade deadline and he didn’t do enough to address the rotation the bullpen and the lineup and that’s where the Astros are. the um they are where they are because of uh poor lineup roster construction, not just um this off season, but throughout the whole regular season. I know that Dana Brown’s try tried to put up some band-aids. He’s found some really nice band-aids. Uh it’s with some pitchers like Jason Alexander and some other guys. Uh but overall, it’s been a very ugly season. And I know a lot of people are saying, is this the end of the Astros dynasty? It doesn’t have to be. It It’s probably the end of the run of going to playoffs, but uh that they could with the right moves next year, they could be a team a good team again. I think they would have to be in the playoffs this year and actually contending and win the division and make a deep playoff run for this to say that the run was still on. I just No, I don’t think the run’s still on, but could they still be a good team is what I’m trying to say. Well, but but I think the golden the golden era of Astros baseball is for all intents and purposes dead on arrival if you don’t make the playoffs this year. Mhm. And even if you make the playoffs, you’re probably going to be a one series team and out. And look, the last positive thing for us again, game five of the 2023 ALCS, it was the last time the Astros were successful in the post. And since then, I mean, we don’t know what 25 holds yet. All right. But at the end of the day, this team has to retool. They have to reconfigure. They have to realign. They have to run the medical staff out of the country and get them let them go on a mission like a medical mission trip. Don’t don’t let them anywhere near your major league club and rethink and retool the strength and conditioning people. What are they doing? How are they returning players back from injury and getting injured and reinjured? And you know how desperate and how bad this team has been. You’ve got a guy that can hardly run to first base and you’re batting him second. You’re batting Esoach Parade second. Why are you batting him second? Bat him fifth or sixth when he has maybe an opportunity to have someone on base where he can hit a single and score a guy from third rather than having Altuve on first and having to sprint out and, you know, leg out a run to first. I mean, Parades looks looks really bad out there, but they’re forced into this. Um, and some of it is they can’t help it. 26 27 I for how many players injured the most of any any team in major league history and that’s why I think the medical staff and what they do as a team has got to be looked at. Um decisions from top to bottom. Jim Crane has got to figure this out. Jim Crane cannot go into Jerry Jones territory and just be the guy who he says he’s in control of everything but nothing’s happening. Nothing’s changing. Something’s got to change. Hey Astros fans, don’t worry about it. Far from Valdez is on the mound tomorrow. Oh yeah, Frober’s pitching tomorrow. That’s what I love to see. From Lagrasa the flow. Yes, that guy. Yeah, man. I hope he brings the truck with all the big speakers on it from I mean, yeah, let’s let’s do it, baby. Let’s just let’s just go out with a bang, right? I mean, look, I think the Astros should troll Major League Baseball and just bring like three trash cans and put them in the dugout. Why not? I mean, I mean, let’s just let’s just go for broke here. Let’s just let’s just try to just upset the world right now. But would it Eric, it would be a LTMO margarita drunk 2025 season of all seasons if they came out and won tomorrow. From throws a no hitter through six and then they win the next three in Anaheim. Now, I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but that’s the kind of season this is that things like that happen and they get to the playoffs and totally lay an egg. I just Man, guys, come on. Like, we’re watching these games. We’re there with you, but you got to make believers out of us. You got to make believers out of us. So, what Brett is saying what Brett is saying is that uh he thinks the next four games is going to be a Hallmark movie. Uh so, where miracles do happen. Oh, I was like, wait, they drink Eltempo margaritas in the Hallmark movies. No. Oh my gosh. More like the Urban Cowboy or Roadhouse. Yeah. They needed to to make the playoffs, they needed to win all six games. Now, you’ve lost two of the games. So, you technically could make it 4 and two, but you’re going to have to rely on a lot of other teams winning, losing, and it’s it’s I don’t believe in luck like that. So, okay, hold on. I’m not delusional. What is What is Alio talking about? I I said this would happen because 2025 season is drunk. That’s why I’m saying it would happen. I’m just saying it would happen cuz I believe it. So, no, Alio, miss me with the mischaracterization of my comments, sir. Thank you very much. Good luck and good night. All righty. 1. Judge is not more “ all around player lol” his defense is way below average and Cal is Premium defender at the most important position on the field calling the game! This game is not all about hitting! There is base running, stealing speed to dive for balls like what happened in the sweep. If that wasn’t important then Derek Yankee short stop would never be what he is!

  2. It’s interesting to see what a history of winning does to a fan’s mentality on a team. AND HOLY CRAP THAT RUGIET READING WAS THE FUNNIEST THING IVE EVER SEEN AND IVE NEVER EVEN WATCHED YOU GUYS, 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Also, go Ms !

  3. Eric, I’m a tigers fan who tuned in bc I wanted to hear if you guys were as frustrated as us rn. Heard you say Cal Raleigh’s 0 defensive WAR means he’s average. That’s not true. 0 means he’s at replacement level, which is below average. It’s a common misconception that replacement level and average are the same thing, but they’re not

  4. The Mutt and Jeff show has ended! Both Brown and Espada must be fired!Plus we need to get rid of all the dead weight!Crane does don’t get anything for his money! It’s like a construction crew who got paid and didnt do job! It’s a disgrace!

  5. Coming into the season, I didn't have high expectations given the pitching staff we were going to have. Then, we racked up even more injuries as the season started. Even through all of that, they found a way to go on a run and take a 7 game lead in the division. However, everything finally caught up to them in the 2nd half of the season. For me, I think Espada did as well as he could with what he was given. The fact that we even had a shot at the post-season is a miracle. Having said all of that, it's still frustrating to watch these guys struggle so much at the plate. Getting guys on base and stranding them. Swinging at pitches 3 feet out of the zone but striking out looking at pitches right down the middle.

  6. It was a good run…had to end sometime…now fix what's broken, get healed, and jettison the dead wood…slim chance to get in if Detroit continues their collapse, but 'Stros look like they have their vacation bags packed and the golf clubs ready to go…

  7. I'm proud of you Brett. I love seeing you call this team out for the disaster it is. Here lately, you have been speaking straight up TRUTH. Good work.

  8. I have no evidence; this is just a hunch……but I think there is something going on in the clubhouse that we are not aware of. There has to be. The way they are playing right now, with no fight, no urgency…..it makes no sense.

  9. The era of Astro dominance has ended….valiant representation of the AL for almost a decade but as that old saying goes, "there's a new sheriff in town"…M's…better luck in the future..you're going to need it.

  10. Astros are lucky to even be in the discussion. Injuries and poor performances decimated this team. Let's be honest, this decline started in 2023 playoffs vs Rangers. 2024 was 3 and out which led to 2025. Reset and regroup for 2026.

  11. In my opinion, which means nothing, I think there's been way too much band-aid baseball strategics happening in the back office. They're not going to go out and spend any real money on decent players because so-and-so is going to be coming back soon from the IL. So they get a leftover player temporarily, push the injured player to come back too soon, and end up making things worse. Also, you can't expect someone who's been on the IL for 2 years to come back and be the same player they were pre-IL. So then you've got an extremely exhausted team trying to hold things together until players come back, which never happens the way it's planned, and eventually they give up. Now I'm not saying they're purposefully throwing games. I'm saying mentally they're ready to be done and rest for the winter. Also, there are some long term players that no matter how much you love them, need to go, like Framber. I thought Correa coming back would finally fire him back up, but no. He just doesn't have it in him anymore, at least not like he is now. But then again, every pitcher they've brought back from IL has gone right back on it, so he's been one of a few shouldering a team, and that's exhausting. Honestly, I don't think they should make the playoffs. Unless they had a Major League movie moment, they'd be out immediately because they can't get it together, and you risk hurting someone else for nothing because they aren't world series material right now. We aren't gonna win every season. This one we peaked a little too early and maybe not even making to the postseason will bring them back, ready to fight next year. 🧡

  12. where the hell has Ramon Urias been??? I would play him over Sanchez . Espada flip flopping lineups all year has never allowed this to to gel offensively. Espada should have benched sanchez already . Espada good bench coach but he has got to go even last year i was enamored with him as manager.
