[Woike]: Rob Pelinka says JJ Redick has received a contract extension

  1. Well deserved.

JJ had a great season considering the chaotic circumstances and the issues around the roster in the playoffs.

Awesome to have our key pillars in Luka, JJ, Rob, and our new owner, Mark Walter, all aligned on long term deals.

  2. After 1 season where he won a single playoff game and played a 40+ years old LeBron the entire second half of a game?

If true I’d call it premature at best, but it really makes no sense when we think he just signed a long term contract as a rookie coach.

  3. He did great as a first time coach. There was a point in the season where it seemed bleak. Injuries mounted. Team looked lost but they somehow went on a crazy run of Ws and to top it off they trade for Luka mid season lol.

Of course it would have been nice to go deep into the playoffs but finishing 5th when they were considered a play in team is already a great showing from JJ.

  4. Am I the only one thinks this is stupid? What’s the point of doing this with a unproven coach when you have 3 years left on his contract?

  5. Good for Redick, but like that’s weird, right? He signed a four year contract last year. There was no reason to do this right now.

  6. Only reason im confused is he signed a 4 year deal no? Lol so where is the total now?

Cool though! Always great to feel like things are solid and JJ had an excellent year.

  7. He definitely wasn’t perfect, but considering this was his first year and he had zero prior coaching experience, the mistakes he made were very forgivable. It’s actually easy for me to forget that this was only year 1 for him, which is a good sign

  8. I was definitely in the camp of very skeptical of JJ when he was hired but it ended up being the best thing for the team. Good for him.

  9. Jj made some crucial improvements as head coach. I expect the development to continue. I trust he will learn from last season playoffs.

  10. I think he’s a good coach and it was well deserved. He’s not perfect, but he’s competent, he knows basketball and he really really gives a fuck. Great move, imo

  11. why? he’s not. This rotation of low caliber coaches that aren’t Laker material is getting old

  12. I would have fired Redick after his immature press conference after playing his starters for the entirety of the second half.

  13. This is the true advantage of having deep pocket owners now. Payroll is the payroll with the current system. You can invest around that though. No need to cheap out on coaching staff, analytics, training, facilities, etc. Sign JJ to 10 years if you want to keep him happy. The owners won’t be afraid to fire him or anyone else and replace them because of money on the books like we used to be

  14. I think this is a good thing for Luka. He’s had so many changes in his life and having a reliable long term partner in a head coach bodes well for both of them and building this team moving forward, especially with new ownership.

  15. Well deserved many players can’t even handle being a Laker imagine being a rookie head coach. He did a phenomenal job last year.

  16. I don’t understand it. Why give an extension after one season? I have high hopes for JJ but this is a bit premature and the Lakers have a track record of giving unwarranted extensions.

  17. I’m not even gonna lie, I forgot he was our coach lmao. It’s been a loooong summer. Super happy to have him back, he pushed the players to their best last season 👏
