This is a photograph of the 1931 JP Rooneys, one of the many sandlot teams in Pittsburgh throughout the 1920’s and 1930’s. This team was the 1931 Champions of the Senior Football Conference of Western PA. And there’s also four future Steelers in this photo.

Back row, far left, first player: Frank Hood

  1. I’m glad they didn’t stick with the name though. Yes the Rooney’s are still involved in the team today but I’d hate to name our team after someone, and then eventually they end up getting fired and then decide they’re going to make their own team on the other side of the state with similar colors, then it’d be all weird that we kept the name.

Can you, imagine a team doing that?
