‘AN ABSOLUTE MUST-WIN!’ 👀 – Dan Orlovsky on the Chiefs’ Week 4 matchup vs. the Ravens | Get Up
What happened between you and Will Compton last week? It wasn’t great, Greeny. Not something I’m not proud of. I know it’s something that Will’s not proud of. Uh tried to tried to give my man some pounds. He was kind of all over the place there. He caught an audible in the middle. I tried to oblige. He then caught another audible. I had to abort mission. So, um this got seven 7 million views this week was that moment. So, today, look at the two of you with your redemption. Smooth. You know, we had to get in the lab. We had to watch the film. We had to practice those make corrections. It’s just Yeah, it was just Phil. I mean, it was just, you know what I’m saying? It’s just that’s just what happens. Greeny. Oh, that’s so well done. And like the way my boy was was looking last week on national television. I’m very proud of you both. I think it is great to see that as we all work together here. That was very nice. That was a beautiful moment. If we could just get society to do that, reach across the aisle to your brother and just Oh, we’re going to do it again. Yeah. Yeah. Got to let people know I’m back. Let me see you try. You ready? No. I don’t know. I’m scared. I’m scared. You know what it is. What the are you doing? You know what? Huh? No, you just did that to me. I don’t know. I think this week I think Will’s a little bit more aerodynamic. The oldest rule show business. Always leave them wanting more. Teams are starting to push the panic button like in New York where the Giants will go with Jackson Dart against the Chargers on Sunday. Yesterday, coach Brian Dball not providing a lot of insight into why he’s benching Russell Wilson for the rookie, aside from saying the decision was his. It’s my decision. We’re going with Jackson. We’re going to get him ready to play this week and the remainder of the season. He’s going to do everything he can. Russ will be the backup. I don’t think any rookie quarterback is ever just ready to play. um you put him in there because you think that he’s done enough to show you that he can go out there and compete and he’s done that every step of the way and that’s why I made the decision. Shafty fill in the blanks. What do we need to know? On draft night when Brian Dable called Jackson Dart to inform him that they were selecting him, he said, “I’m banking on you.” Those are the exact words that he used. And Jackson Dart said in turn, “Smart man.” We’re going to find out how smart everybody is starting Sunday with this quarterback change at a time where the Giants wanted to be patient, where they heard the booze on Sunday night for Russell Wilson, where the fans were cheering for Jackson Dart and they felt like to get energy, juice, momentum back, they had to make the change. There was an analogy that one person in the league used to me this week. They said, “This is like Brian Dable is sitting at the poker table. He’s got one chip left. One chip and he’s putting that chip down on the table right now and we’ll see how it goes. Lang his last shot. Dan, I look I think we have belabored the decision like crazy. We’ve talked about it. Whatever it is, it doesn’t make any difference. Now he’s going to play. What are the keys for the young man? What do you expect from Jackson Dart against a really good Charger defense? Yeah, go be a creator. That that’s the big thing is can his athleticism help this stagnant offense? The two things that I loved for him coming out of school was he just had great presence and then the ability to be strong in the pocket against this defense going to be a big deal. The presence down in the red zone. It’s the worst red zone offense in football right now with Russell Wilson. Can he have this pinpoint type of throw where it’s a dicey throw? This is aggression at the quarterback position. We saw that at school. We saw it in the preseason. Different world in the regular season, but his ability to throw the ball in the middle of the field down in tight windows in the red zone is going to be a big deal. And then that pocket strength. This is an elite Chargers defense. Can he be strong in the pocket when some of those pass rushers are going to close down on him to keep two hands on a football, work it against an offensive line or with an offensive line that’s subpar, but not just totally rely on the legs. The the creator element of it is can you keep plays alive in the pass game to get a player like Malik neighbors the football in opportunities. We saw it at school and we saw it in the preseason. this is going to be the number one thing that he’s going to have to do. So, I I’ve got a receiver and a lineman here, and I think it’s interesting to both perspectives. When you bring in a rookie, like, okay, we’re 0 and three. We’re going to the rookie quarterback. These are dire times. If you’re Malik Neighbors, what are you thinking? You’re you’re hoping to see a spark. You’re hoping to see somebody who can maybe make throws even better than Russell Wilson did. Yes, down the field, but all over the field as well. And you’re also thinking, how can I make this easier on the rookie? Right? Right? When Russell comes in, he has to learn the receivers he has, learn what makes them great. When you’re the veteran and a rookie is coming in, you’re trying to give him as clear picture as possible and figure out what is my responsibility to give this young guy confidence so that we can have a 1 plus 1 equal three situation. Yeah. And as an offensive lineman, if you’re a veteran like Andrew Thomas, who’s coming back, limited or not, you want him to feel safe and comfortable while he’s in the pocket, when he’s put in the positions that Jesse Mento is going to put him in, when he’s in third and really long, and be like, “Hey, we’re going to take care of you.” Now, the professional in me is whispering the side, “Make sure you get that ball off, though.” All right. I’m trying to I’m trying to get paid, too. Got to get that done. You know what I’m saying? So, I I think for me and watching Jackson, it’s like this is one of the rare times in the NFL, it’s like there’s no expectation on you to win this game. Go make a mistake. Make try to make the tights. You throw two picks, who cares? At the end of the day, if your team can rally and keep the energy around you, that’s all you want cuz the fans are booing and the the team is feeling the same way. I also think it’s this, you know, Brian Dable was really creative as a play caller with Josh Allen in Buffalo and then even so in 22 with Daniel Jones. He now has a guy athletically, talent-wise, armability to get creative again. And I think there’s a lot of pressure on that. Like this this offense should look very different. This offense has become so boring and basic and stagnant and uncreative. And I am of the belief that it’s because of the quarterback Russell Wilson and his style. Yeah, there’s a lot of pressure on Dable right now to like get this offense looking different and modern. I actually think Daniel Jones resurgence is the biggest indictment on his campaign to stay the head coach of the New York Giants. You don’t think those conversations are happening that Daniel Jones all of a sudden looks like the best quarterback in the league a year after Saquon leaves and goes basically to be the MVP and win a Super Bowl. So now I think the reason why they’re putting Jackson Dart in, which feels earlier than expected, is because we got to show something. The Chargers aren’t the team to do it again. The Saints made more sense, but he’s like, “You know what? Get him in there and let’s see something.” I also think there’s a reality the everyone talks about the Giants offense like they have no talent at all. There’s a lot of talent. There’s a lot of talent. Scataboo is a good player. Malik’s obviously great. I like Slayton. Wandell Robinson’s been good. Like there’s good capable talent. Final word. Well, the other thing is it sounds great. It’s easy. They want to do this. It’s exciting. What if the defenses he goes against are tough? What if they don’t win games? What if he doesn’t look great? What are you doing a month from now if this doesn’t go the way you’re hoping and wanting and expecting? They need the Dable needs the the perfect moment. He needs to win and the quarterback needs to play well. This was very early to make this move if if you were thinking about trying to gain a spark because to your point, there is still there’s so much season left. AFC this weekend. Ravens and Chiefs. We’ve seen this in the playoffs so many times. Loser’s going to be one and three. The quarterbacks are both legends. You’ll hear Mahomes talking about what his team needs to get better. You’ll hear Lamar Jackson say he’s not looking in the rearview mirror. Yeah, I think for us, we got to start faster. I think every game we’ve we’ve kind of said that we haven’t really got to do that. And we were moving the ball early in the game last week, but we weren’t we’re settling with field goals. And when you play teams that are that are really good and have dynamic quarterbacks like the Ravens do, you got to get turn those into touchdowns. I don’t really care about what happened in the past. You know, I I I’ll be mad about the situation, don’t get me wrong, when it happens, but we got to get ready for Chiefs. We can’t dwell on, you know, old history. We got to worry about what’s going on now. So, I’m looking at Kansas City. They got this game. Then they got the Jaguars, which suddenly does not look like the easy game we might have projected it to be. Then they’ve got the Lions. So, these are tough games before they get Rasheed Rice back. You were talking earlier this morning, they look like they’re going to get Xavier Worthy back this week. Full participant in practice on Wednesday. So, if you’re full on Wednesday, you’re tracking to play on Sunday. And not only is he tracking to play, but their rookie wide receiver Jaylen Royals also is back at practice and they might be able to get something out of him. So, there are a couple of weapons on the outside on an offense that has been lacking early on. Explosive big plays. This is just what they need. And now if they can find a way to beat Baltimore on Sunday, now they’re two games away from getting Rashid Rice back. And so you start to get reinforcements, you start to build hope, you start to think that, hey, we can still make this run before it’s too late. Dan, well coached teams get better as the season goes on. Andy Reid is obviously an all-time great coach. Do you expect We’ve all seen what they’ve looked like. Do you expect them to get leaps and bounds better as the year goes on? Not if this their offensive line doesn’t start to play better. No. and and I understand the receivers are coming back, but that’s been the real issue of their football team is their offensive line has not performed well. And I would say this, this a must-win for Kansas City, and they have to do it in a way that doesn’t put the ball in their best players hands. I do not think Kansas City wins this game because of Patrick Mahomes and throwing a football. I really believe if Kansas City is going to win this game, they have to do it running the football. They’re they haven’t done it. They’re not good at it, but it’s the way to beat the Ravens. The Ravens defensively are built to defend the pass. They have five first round picks playing in their secondary. They have struggled. We all know stop the run. That’s the interesting thing in the game for me is like is Andy Reid and Matt Naggie two incredibly bright coaches. Are they going to somewhat like take the ball out of in the must-win situation in gamewise? Take it out of Patrick’s hands and go, we have to run the football to win this game. I I actually think it’s a must win for the Baltimore Ravens. It’s a must win for both of these teams. But if the Ravens lose this, that will be three losses of games that they should have won. When I look at the Kansas City Chiefs, they have not played well offensively. They have no weapons on the outside. You have Travis Kelce who’s on his last lap as an NFL tight end. And then you’re down Rashi Rice. You’re down Xavier Worthy. You’re down your rookie. And if you don’t have any threat on the outside to go deep, to get down the field, of course, your run game is going to look the way that the Kansas City Chiefs run game has or their pass protection or their run blocking is going to look the way that it has because you’re so one-dimensional. When they get these guys back, it creates threats on the outside. I think Thornton coming along the way that he has, showing that speed and that ability to hit a long ball with Patrick Mahomes actually will make it all come together. I don’t I don’t doubt that either one of these teams, if they lose, the Baltimore Ravens or the Kansas City Chiefs will be out of it. But to your point, it will be a harder track for the Baltimore Ravens. It’s difficult to doubt. I mean, for the Chiefs, I’m sorry. Chiefs, the Chiefs The Chiefs want their division looks a lot better. The division is a lot better. That’s the whole thing is their division is a whole lot better. Like the the Chargers are probably going to be 4-0 after this weekend. And if you drop to one and three, digging out of that hole is going to be very difficult for the Kansas City Chiefs. If the Ravens go 1 and three, you look at the division, the AFC North, and you think, okay, it’s going to be loud right now, but when we get to November, it’ll be kind of, you know, status quo, Ravens will be back on top. They they’re the most dominant team in that division. I see them coming out of that a lot easier than I see the Chiefs coming out of it with the Chargers and the Broncos. Yeah. Whatever happens this weekend, final word. It’s a must-win for the Chiefs. I think they have to play better. And if the Baltimore Ravens find a way to go into this game in the fourth quarter and lead and blow it, I think then there’s a lot of unexpected noise around Baltimore. All right, we we’re looking forward to that one. We are back on Get Up. Let’s do QB quick reads with our quarterback Dan Orlosski. It starts with Jaylen Herz this week against Tampa. What are you looking for? Can he win? Cuz that’s all Jaylen Herz does, right? Except against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. You better be good on early downs because against the Bucks, Jaylen Herz is 1 and4. A quarterback that all he does is win. He’s QBR on third down is 31. This is a team that gets after him. And if they can’t run the football on early downs and get Squan established, this could be a big time upset. Even though Tampa Bay is absolutely depleted with injuries on their offensive side of the football. This defense has their has Jaylen Herz’s number and that’s going to be the big challenge with all their pressures. Daniel Jones. This is a heavyweight fight game for me that Daniel Jones and his kind of rebuild against the Rams defense. It the one thing that he is doing differently is playing well under pressure. They have to feature those tight ends. The Rams don’t do a great job of covering them. Daniel Jones in his career has always struggled in pressure. For some reason, this year he has become one of the best quarterbacks under pressure. It was his story coming out of school. It was the story of him as a New York Giant. he would struggle in it. Right now, he’s thriving in it. He wins this game, he’s going to be at the top of the MVP conversation. Last Aaron Rogers in the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Vikings defense. If you get into pass obvious passing situations, you’re one and 18 on third and long. Against the Vikings defense, quarterbacks are 1 for8 in obvious passing situations. He’s got to get rid of the ball quickly. They got to kick it to the perimeter and they have to do a great job of treating the short pass game outside like their run game. They’re not going to be able to run the ball against this defense. Okay. This this offensive run game is not good. If they don’t have success in that, this is going to be an ugly morning Sunday morning in Ireland. Yeah, it’s a Dublin game and both sides of this game are interesting. Let’s start with the Steelers side. One of their great legends is Terry Bradshaw. He does not see his old team as one with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. They are always competitive, but they’re they’re past being a contender. They’re not a contender. They’re just they’re just not. From what I’ve seen, they’re not a contender. They and they haven’t been in a while. They had been a contender in 5 years. He That is true. And the reason for it generally has been quarterback play, but what we have seen from them in the past, Will, is Super Bowl or at least like championship caliber defense. What are we seeing in the Steeler defense right now? That to me is a much bigger problem than anything they’re getting out of Rogers. Look, $179 million on that defense. It’s not a question of uh you know if that defense will wake up like they they have to like that is where all the money is. And then you have you mentioned it with the quarterback player Aaron Rogers. I’m not really concerned with him. It’s just what are they going to do offensively? They’re like what 31st in the league running the football. DK Metaf has came over there and he doesn’t seem to get any separation unless he can just accelerate downfield. you throw them the ball in the end zone or you just might get a screen because they’re all screen play. They try and get uh Jaylen Warren the football, but I just don’t see what they’re going to do offensively against the Vikings. Yeah, I’m I’m I’m with you. I mean, when you brought Aaron Rogers in, the thought process was the defense will always be really good. We’re going to ask you to do less than what you had to do with the New York Jets. We just need a little above average quarterback play, which you can get from Aaron Rogers in his sleep typically in his career. This year, with the defense playing the way that it has, to Dan’s point, they’re not great at running the football. and down the field. It’s like when Aaron Rogers is in the pocket, he is affected by pressure for whatever reason. And it’s just not typical what we see from him. You’re going against a Brian Flores defense with those exotic pressures. It could get ugly to to put it into context, not great at running the football. They’ve been outrushed 230 yards in three games. Yeah. 200. That’s the most in the NFL. So, this there’s a couple games this weekend that I think can get out of hand. This is one of Give me the Steelers side of things, Chefty. I look, we’re coming up with the run game, the defense, the offense, like all these holes and how they faded and not been a player. You know what? You know what it is? They miss Ben Rothllessberger more than people realize. When you have the franchise quarterback, it covers up all the warts and they haven’t had it. They’ve struggled to find the guy. They’ve bounced from quarterback to quarterback and Aaron Rogers has stepped in and played well and has been dealing at times, but the fact of the matter is they’ve got some holes that they’ve got to figure out and address. When you don’t have the franchise quarterback, those things you got that base over there. I I get all that. The Steelers that I grew up watching would beat the absolute trash out of you at the line of scrimmage. And they just don’t right now. Their offensive line, it’s not what they used to be. Um I think their defensive line has some skill and talent, but it’s not as physical as it used to be. And they got to get their stars playing like slow. They look old and they look slow. And I’m not talking about their 41-year-old quarterback right now. I think he’s the least he’s been everything that they could have hoped him to be. I want to go the other side of this. Any of you who have been and and and we thank you for it. If you’ve been with Get Up back to our earliest days, Dan Olowski’s belief in Carson Wentz was a huge topic on this show and obviously there have been there’s been a lot of water under that bridge, but it was a very encouraging first performance for him. What do you expect from him against a Steeler defense that has been struggling? And what is your big picture view of Wentz now with Kevin Okcon? Yeah, I fully expect him to play well again. I thought the two things were timing and reaction were really good. If Carson Wentz plays well again, it absolutely is going to become a conversation in that building of does he remain their starting quarterback. The offense clicked now. Christian Derald, the left tackle being back, huge part of it. But if his if he performs again like he did last week and this offense looks the way that it should with Addison back, then him remaining their starting quarterback is at least going to be a conversation in that building. Well, first things first, okay, JJ McCarthy’s got the high ankle sprain and they play in Dublin this week against the Steelers and they play in London next week against the Browns. There is the schedule. They then have a byee. So JJ McCarthy wouldn’t be back until October 19th against the Eagles. He’s playing well, then you’re going to keep riding him at that point in time. If he’s playing well, you’re winning games, the ankle’s not right, you just stick with him until you feel like you need to make the change. In the NFL, the best ability is availability, right? And it’s unfortunate for for JJ in that scenario where Carson Wentz has a resurgence and they’re saying, “Hey, we’re going to ride the hot hand.” I still think JJ McCarthy is an incredible quarterback. I think he gets better when the pressure is on. But the thing about the NFL is you can’t speed up experience. Even what you’re seeing from Carson Wentz, if it takes him 10,000 reps to become the player he is now, and we’re judging him at 5,000 or maybe you only get the 5,000, he’s just not going to look that way. And that’s where all these first round picks that all of a sudden are playing at another level. Experience matters and it’s the one thing with players that you can’t speed up. The only thing I’ll caveat it is with is anybody who like really understands this the the roster. If they get average quarterback play, they’re an NFC championship contender. And so if Carson Wentz is giving you that plus, it’s gonna I just think it’s going to be hard to not justify keeping them on the field. And they want Carson Wentz to not be Superman. They just want him to manage things. Yeah. Be simple, not make. And he did he did take two sacks, three sacks last week. I’m like, stop doing that, dude. Could he be the next one in these quarterback reclamation projects who’ve seen a lot of guys bounce from place to place and find new life? Maybe he’s the next guy to do it. Heat. Heat. Ever since Baltimore had the 1 seed and lost the first game, I knew that system wasn’t gonna work. Now you got Henry and they still out of control? Now we blaming the coach smfh.
They keep talking about the Chiefs division and only name 1 team.
This has high Tyrone and Chad energy
They can jump through tables ….the giants
If your Daboll just keep the offense simple
Where the first read is not there give him license to run and get 4-5 yards with the legs and lastly Get the playmakers the ball
Dan your a bumb
DO is right – Reid and Nagy need to challenge this O-Line to play at their peak and scheme better in the run game.
Dan said he was done doubting him after he beat San Fran the 2nd time
DK has never been technically sound as a WR…
Their whole season is at stake with all the WR injuries I think they’re doomed personally
“Trying to give my man some pound” — is diabolical
Dan Orlovsky is truly a pathetic human being. This guys career highlight is cluelessly running out of the back of the endzone for an 0-16 team….. but he thinks he can criticize PATRICK LAVON MAHOMES???…?? What a truly pathetic piece of sh*t Orlovsky is…. shame on ESPN for giving him a platform
"Dabol didn't provide any insight into his decision" Bruh, no additional insight needed. Russ is terrible and literally gave the Chiefs that game. Now Dabol is in job saving mode.
~ Haven't the Chiefs already proved they don't need "Home Field Advantage" in the Playoffs to win it all?. All of this non-sense about winning the Division is OVER-BLOWN . . . ~
This is beyond a dumb take by Dan saying the Chiefs aren't going to win by putting the ball in their best player's hand( whaaat). The way you beat the Ravens is by putting POINTS on the board and staying ahead, which is more realistic with Mahomes putting the ball in the air, which in turn will force the Ravens to have to pass the ball. If the Chiefs try to run the ball, that's the quickest way for them to lose this game, because that's them getting out of character on offense. where their Running backs are just wasting downs by not gaining much of any yards, leaving alot of 3rd and long. The other key difference in this game is how aggressive the Chiefs are on 4th down. I would luv to parachute Dan Campbell on that Chiefs sideline for this game, because no one has faith in Andy Reid going for those 4th down at every chance like the Lions did last week.
Matt Nagy is a garbage 🗑️ trash OC coach period and needs to be fired.
It’s hilarious how Dan says you gotta run the football against the worst ranked passing defense of last year and so far this season. Mfs just be up there talking.
I agree with DO that they should lean on the run more BUT mix in play action and spread the ball too. That oline isn’t good but they can get around the that. I think it’s a must win for both teams..
Will Compton lookin like Matt Damon with that bald head 😭
THE NFL successfully given BALTIMORE AND KANSAS CITY VERY TOUGH SCHEDULES WHILE GIVING BUFFALO AND CINCINNATI EASY SCHEDULES TO ELIMINATE BLACK QUARTERBACKS FROM THE PLAYOFFS…. WHITE PEOPLE FUCKED THE GAME UP…… JUST LIKE THEY DID IN THE NBA
If they’re going to Judy let Wentz take over if he plays well then why did they let Darnold just leave .
Dan talking down on mahomes but praising wentz wat an idiot
Why not Jameis as the back up. At least Jameis won't throw away plays to avoid bad stats. Jameis will try everything to win.
The one thing about dynastic teams. They kinda make the regular season meaningless. KC can beat Buffalo and Baltimore in their backyard. So until theyve been knocked out. Doesnt matter what anybody does.
Let's be real….. DaBoll isn't a good head coach. Good OC, but not a good HC. All the key players who left have succeeded. Time for a new HC and GM
Big dummy……played the game at the position, you get better WR squad, that pulls the extra rushers off the line which helps the OL. c'mon DO……this is basic
Is it really that bad of a thing for Kansas City to have three losses already? They’ve had success ever since Mahomes started.
Maybe it’s time for a new team to step up
Putting that boy in against the chargers? Ehhh won’t be surprised if there’s a scripted win incoming 😂
Eagles have quite a few starters injured for this game too let’s not act like Tampa the only team hurting
Why does Lamar Jackson kinda sound like Mike Tyson in this video? 😂
Because how the play off spot is set for this season. Both ravens n the chiefs can make it.
Question is, can the chiefs score n go point for point against the ravens?
Yes defense wins games but with how quickly the ravens can score I don’t see how the r chiefs can win. We have to play perfect
Can Daboll call a better defense than Zach Orr? Let's make a trade
The oline in NYG sucks that why the pressure was bad for Jones compared to INDY
ravens should be able to win this one unless henry decides to fumble again
Can't stand dan o. He was just a career bench qb that stunk. And he acts like he knows everything
Orlovsky consistently terrible with his takes. The dude that spoke after Dan runs him over with knowledge of identifying problems and path to victory.
LOL you guys can't be serious…
At Arrowhead, Chiefs healthy, Ravens banged up. Cmon man, don’t be blind. We were in the Superbowl the last 3 seasons and have many of the same guys. You know what’s gonna happen.
All this show is, is a bunch of failed players criticizing successful players. And of course the other clueless bozos who only know how to talk in front of a camera with not much beyond that. ESPN blows.
Josh Allen had 394 passing yards and Dan said the ravens are built to stop the pass lmaoo
1:15 the WHATS lmao
As a fair Chiefs fan, I understand being concerned for not seeing them play how we are accustomed to seeing but they are sounding goofy if they think the Raven can overcome their problems before KC can fix theirs.
Dan loving dart out of school but not shedeur is laughable
If Dan was as good of a QB person and analyzer as they think, why has he never been considered for a OFF coaching job in the NFL. He played behing Stafford and got to see in his prime what real talent looks like and as a backup QB ur pretty much a extension of the OFF coordinator and coaches and constantly looking at things with him on the sidelines and reading coverages on the tablet or whtever, so sure hes seen talent and hes not a bad analyst but i dont see him as a QB Guru for these sports shows..
Dan said in a must win take the ball out of Pat hands 😭😭 the ravens rank 31st against the pass
its crazy how slim linemen get when they stop playing football
Daboll is a very bad coach, examples: interview with Jayden Daniels, letting go Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, "coaching talk" with Malik at the sideline.
Never underestimate the heart of a champion, GO CHIEFS
