🔴LIVE🔴Colorado Rockies VS Seattle Mariners /September 25 / MLB The show 25
League on MLB the show. It’s the Colorado Rockies taking on the Seattle Mariners. And now, please welcome First Pitch coming at you right after the break. Seattle about to get started here. And today’s starting pitcher, Bryce Miller. What do we need to know here about the right-hander? Well, you can see his whip is a little above the league average. Not bad, but I think in this one he’s going to need to control that a little bit better. Try to limit hitters from getting on base. Stay in that windup instead of the stretch. And when he does allow base runners, be able to throw a pitch, he’s going to get a swing and miss, get out of the inning so that a base hit doesn’t do more damage and put his team behind the eightball. First pitch 640. And there’s a ball. Two balls. No strike. Just missed. Was a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished. Little up and just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Hunter Goodman digging in for the Rockies. This is another guy capable of hitting tape measure home runs late with the swing there. [Applause] the pitch. Fast ball for a strike. Don’t play situation here. He’s been working up in the zone. Typically, you look for guys to get that ground ball. See if he adjusts on this next pitch. [Applause] Pitch misses. And that’s ball one. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, Blaine Crim. Good power, not great in the OBP department. Just missed. Get two. Check swing called strike man at first. One away. [Applause] That’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. center field. Rodriguez has this one sized up. Makes the catch for the out. And there’s two away. Batting fourth, leftielder. Here’s Bud Black’s lineup for the Colorado Rockies. Singing. This righty heavy lineup is a bit unusual against a right-handed pitcher. Yeah, Boo certainly bucks the old conventional wisdom and I’m not sure I see the vision from the manager on this one. You’re not exactly putting your players in the best situation to succeed when you roll out a lineup like this. Maybe they’ve seen something on video that tells them there’s a weakness to exploit. Perhaps that’s it. Hard hit left side to second, Palanco. And that is that. So, no runs, no base hits, no errors, and one left on base. Onto the bottom of the first, no score. Back here with my pal Singi. And today on the hill, number 51. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Randy Roserena, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. The one-1 is fouled off. Some real good life going through the zone on that one. Pitch misses. Two and two. Really good take, especially with two strikes. waves at the bender for the strikeout. Oh, that’s a curveball that people like to describe as a hammer or Uncle Charlie. And you can see why. It’s not a looping slow curve. He throws it hard and it gets plenty of bite on the end. Cal Raleigh up next for the Mariners. That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. You know, Raleigh made history in 2023. He had a game with two home runs and six RBI’s becoming the first catcher in Mariners history to do that. One down, base is empty. Foul ball there. Speaking of dingers, he’s the second fastest of 50 home runs in Seattle history. Only A-Rod needed fewer games. Going to count one and two. two straight curve in the dirt. Well, he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here. 22 too. He’s already seen the curve ball couple of times in this at bat, so might have it timed up and ready for it. Still two and two after the foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Swanging a ground ball and foul ball. [Music] Missed inside with the curve. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mound, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. Tovar snags it for the second out. And now we check out the Mariners lineup in that cleanup spot. A key piece for this club, Josh Naylor. Well, he’s an important part of this lineup for sure. I mean, there’s no doubt about it, Boo. It’s somebody that they try to feed off of. He does a lot of things, you know, very well up there at the plate. He’s got a presence about him and you know he’s a guy that you really kind of like to watch swing the bat. Okay, Rodriguez, let’s go. Julio Rodriguez stands in now and watches strike one. Swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Two outs. Not close with that one. And the count is one and two. Stays alive. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Mariners go down quietly there. Scoreless after one. Back in Seattle, leading off Ezekiel Tovar. Ezekiel Tovar. Tovar starting up the middle at second, hitting fifth in today’s lineup. And he was born in Venezuela. Bats in there. Going one. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Slice to right and foul ball. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fastball. But for whatever reasons, he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. That one missed. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. And that’s a foul ball. swing and a miss and he struck him out. One up, one down. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Brentton Doyle the next to hit. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. on the inside corner for a strike. Next pitch is outside. Umpire and behind the plate for us today, Boog, is Mike Filillmore. And he is a good one. He’ll reward pitches on the edges a little bit, but the main thing is he doesn’t keep you guessing. Once he established that a pitch is a strike, it stays that way. The one-1 is fouled off. Yeah, Philillmore kind of I don’t know, you’d say maybe an umpire’s umpire, but really consistent, very fair. Hit in the air left field and it drops in. So, a man aboard now with one away. Batting seventh, third baseman number 12 The batter now, Kyle Keros. Here’s the swing and a drive left field and he knew it. A gigantic blast and they grab the lead. It’s two nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. Cal Farmer up to the plate now. And there’s the strike. right side hard hit. Palano tosses to first and there’s two down. Batting ninth, the designated hitter number 37. Two outs, space is empty. Braxton Fulford digging in for the Rockies. on the ground to first and it goes just foul. Two down to in the air center field. Rodriguez settles under it. He’s got it. And that is out number three. But the Rocks bring in two on this big fly. It’s now a two nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back. Bottom half of inning number two. And now it’s Josh Naylor. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. When you look at the elite teams in a game right now, there is going to be the slug. No question about it. But the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. I’d say a mistake pitch in an O2 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. Keep that leadoff man off first base. Palanco. The batter now, Jorge Palano. That one fouled off. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. Come on. Ripped but a curls. Foul and the O2. Come on. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Yeah. And I figured you would get caught into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. And there’s a ball. That pitch was pretty borderline at the top of the zone and he’s not digging the call out there on the mound. Clearly pretty frustrated. So, he’s going to have to collect himself a little. And that’s in the dirt. line drive to short and caught. That’s a big first out of the inning. He showed off his skills catching the line drive, but most importantly, he kept the runner out of scoring position. Things would look a little different if he didn’t make that play. Aueno Suarez up to the plate. Now, this has been a career year for him when it comes to driving in runs. [Applause] [Applause] And the first pitch misses for ball one. a one-two count. All he’s seen is fast balls. You’ve got to expect something off speed. Stay back. Let’s go Seattle. Line drive caught. That at bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn’t feel like it. He hit the ball hard but it doesn’t always work out in your favor. Sometimes a defender is there to make a play. digging in. Dominic can zone. That’s in for a strike. First pitch strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper. That one ripped but fouled. Next offering upstairs. He goes down looking. Mariners leave one. They trail it here. Two nothing. Onto the third inning. Here’s the Rockies leadoff hitter, Mickey Moniac. Miller back to work. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. Fast ball is outside. Knocks that one away and will do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a ground ball. base hit right field and the leadoff man aboard all over that one right there. Got the top of the ball a little bit but not much. That was hit pretty hard through the infield so I think he’ll be happy with that swing. Definitely generated some good bats speed. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Now a chance for Hunter Goodman. Tosses to first and one away in the top of the third. Up next for Colorado, first base. Next to hit for the Rockies, Blaine Crim fly to center his first time. He’s 0 for one. All right, Seattle. Come on, Mariners. Yeah. Up the middle in plenty of time to first. That’s out number two. Now batting leftielder Jordan Beck Jordan Beck digging in for the Rockies. He’s 0 for one and there’s a foul ball. Runner at third. Two away. Next offering upstairs [Music] in the air right field. Robless sizes this one up and that is that. So, one left for Colorado as they’re unable to add to their two nothing lead set for the bottom of the third. And now for Seattle, Victor Robless. Victor Rob out into left center for a line drive. basis had a good start to the inning. Waste no time there. And man, I’ll tell you, a line drive like that into the gap just feels so good. It’s feedback that you had everything on time and in control from start to finish with your swing. Here’s the shortstop at the play. JP Crawford right through there for a strike. Come on JP ground ball right side fires to second for one to first double play. Nicely done for me that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. Now it’s Randy Rosarena. Struck out, swinging his first time. Ground ball up the middle. Farmer whips it to first. They get the out on a Rosarena. And that is the inning. Nobody left for Seattle. They trail things here. Two nothing. All set for the start of the inning. So in now for Colorado. Ezekiel Tovar. Swanging a ball. drilled center field. One away. Up next for Colorado. Here’s the center fielder, Brenton Doyle. One for one with a single and a run scored so far. Swings and misses. It’s 0 and one. One out. Base is empty. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Swings and misses. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. So digging in, Kyle Caros. He’s already homerred in this game and first offering is fouled off. Swing and a miss as he was out front. This guy’s not wasting any pitches. Hitters got to get into swing mode. This is a good time to expand the zone. throw something maybe down in the dirt. Two outs. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Up the middle. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw. And they come away without an out. Now batting short stop Kyle Farmer. So, a man aboard. Next for Colorado, Kyle Farmer. He’s 0 for one. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Caros off of first with two away. Seattle. There’s the strike. The one-1 is fouled off. Come on. Here’s a one-two. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. So, no runs here on a base hit. No errors and one left. We’re midway in the fourth. It’s the Rockies two and the Mariners nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Chami and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Cal Raleigh. right through there for a strike. Over 80% of his first pitches are strikes. You’re doing that, you could have a really good day out there on the mound. And that misses and the count is one and one. And a foul ball. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. And downstairs. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fells that fast ball back. Pitch misses and now it’s three and two. now in this three ball count down in the ball game. You’ve got to be very selective. Take your walk if they’ll give it to you. That one is absolutely belted. That’s back. And that is gone. He circles the bases. His 59th home run of the season. And they’re on the board. It’s 2-1. He kept swinging and it paid off. Well, that was a battle boo. He just kept taking his cuts. Finally squared one up. Rodriguez at the plate now. That’s ball one. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. And another ball. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. And there’s the strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter, not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. [Music] headed towards the corner. Moniac flying after this one. Tries to make the play, but it’s fouled. [Applause] And a foul ball. He stays alive. Ninth pitch of the at bat due next. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball. And I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. Here’s Josh Naylor. One for one with a single so far. First pitch misses. That’s a little bit low. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. In this situation, ahead 200, he’s put himself in a really good spot. Swung on, belted. That’s back there. And that one’s gone. [Applause] It’s their second home run of the inning. And we are starting over. It’s 2-2. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. With a low 90s fast, you have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient, waited for it. He was like BP all over again. Jorge Palano up next for the Mariners. [Applause] Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. One down. Base is empty. And that one fouled off on the ground. Tovar and Palano is out. It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run, not allowing it to stay in the head, but going to work at the next hitter and a tough one at that. A Hennio Suarez up to hit now. 0 for one so far. That one misses one and0. That’s inside. Swings here and drives one well left field way back. And you can’t forget it. He sends it out of here. Their third home run of the inning. And just like that, they’re out front. It’s 3-2. Boo. His plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later. You can’t argue with those results. [Applause] Can be pretty dangerous when you fall behind in the count. 20. You still got to try to find a way to keep that hitter off balance. Well, he wasn’t able to do it there. The hitter did a nice job of turning that pitch around, not missing it in a hitter’s count. And stepping in for the Mariners, Dominic Canzone. [Applause] And ball one. Two down. Nobody on and delivers outside. The Rockies have some action in the pen. Tanner Gordon getting ready to come on for Bud Black. Roll warming up as well. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck and that gets down into the gap around first and hustling for second and that’s a double. Nice double right there. Loud contact coming off the bat. Didn’t get enough air under to drive it out of here, but you’ll take that swing and that result every time. Here’s Bud Black towards the mound. And we’re going to see a pitching change here. Number 51 is done. And this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Bradley Bllelock on a pitch out of the pen here. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Here’s Victor Robas and he’s already singled in this game. Liner base hit headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. It’s an RBI single and they lead by two. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. So, two down. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit. He hit into a double play his first time up. That one ripped and he makes the catch and that’s the inning. They get four runs on five hits, no errors, and leave one. We played four. It’s the Mariners four and the Rockies two. We go to the top of the fifth. Now it’s the DH Braxton Fulford. Fulford in his rookie season 26 years old and he was a sixthround draft pick in 2021. Sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit and that turns the lineup over. Now batting right fielder Mickey Monia. So the batting order turns over. Here’s the Rockies leadoff hitter. Mickey Moniac delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. [Applause] And that one missing low. I got one ball, one strike. There’s a swing and a drive. That one back there and out of here. He made him pay for that one and we’re all square. It’s 44. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage. Even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one, nice piece of hitting there at the plate. And here’s the catcher, Hunter Goodman. Got to be careful with this guy. He’s got power. He can untie it with one swing. Swinging a highfly ball out there towards left field. puts it away for the out and there’s one down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Cut on and lifted in the air. Robless. And there are two outs. Now batting leftielder Jordan Beck. Now the left fielder Jordan Beck for two in this one. Just missed. Just missed. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. That to right. Robless sizing this one up. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that’s the third out. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. All even now at four a piece. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back at T-Mobile Park. Bottom of the inning in now is the Mariners DH. Randy A Rosarena. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Ball one. And that one hammered. Doyle going back. Holds it in on the warning track. Up next for the Mariners. Now the catcher up to hit. Cal Raleigh. He’s already homerred here in this one. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. Pitch is in there. 0 and one. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Here’s the O2. Just misses the mark outside the zone. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. And a ball in two strikes. Just misses with that one. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. Good job to fight that one off. He was a little out front, but did a good job keeping the hands back long enough to foul that pitch off. [Applause] swing and a miss and he got him. Two away. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. At worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Two outs. Base is empty. That’s down and in. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. swings through that one for strike two. Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming. And a breaking ball misses outside. All tied up. Last half of inning number five. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and good work there as he gets a one, two, three. So they make short work of him there. Five innings complete and we are tied 44. Ryan Woo on the pitch here and he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one in innings. though he’ll be tough to get to. Brian. So in now for Colorado, Ezekiel Tovar Tovar. That clips the corner, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Activity in the bullpen. Edward Bazardo preparing to come on if needed. Hancock getting cranked up as well and the one and that drops in for a strike. Pretty rare location right there. Right down the middle. This guy paints the edges. Not sure if you’re going to see that pitch again as a hitter. The O2 swings and misses and that puts him just one K away from 200 on the year. Pretty much textbook pitching for the three pitch K right there. Jumped ahead 02 on two pitches he didn’t want to go after at the plate. Then knowing he’s going to be a little more aggressive trying to protect, he expands just out of the zone where he couldn’t do anything with it. He gets the strike out and keeps the pitches thrown to a minimum. Very nice. Now Brentton Doyle. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. Tied at four. Late on that fast ball. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. swung on, popped up on the infield. Naylor and makes the grab. Two up, two down. Oh yeah. Now batting number 12 Kyle Caros digs in now. Come on, Mariners. Ball one there. Can’t love it cleanly. Still finds a way to get off a throw. It’s a one, two, three inning for the Rockies. So they go quietly there. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up and we are tied 4-4 back in Seattle. Bottom of the sixth inning and here is Josh Naylor Bllelock back to work that misses the zone and that is ball one stirring in the Colorado bullpen. Rowani Contrarus up and throwing. Perot getting loose as well. Let’s go Mariners. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. That one misses now. Two balls in a strike. Two and one the count now. He hasn’t seen a fast ball yet, but you’ve got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 count. Base knock center field. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Jorge Palano will hit next. That one hooked. Foul. And that misses ball one with a go-ahead run at first here in the bottom of the sixth. Now a fly ball to right center. Calls it in and there’s one away. Unbelievable. Now batting third base Aueno Aueno Suarez up next for the Mariners. This guy with light tower power. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Quick throw back in. Lead runner holds it second with one gone. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Smashed that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. And up next for Seattle, Dominic Canzone one for two hardliner. It’s a bomb. He circles the bases. His second home run of the series. It’s 74. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Rockies bullpen. Bradley Bllelock won’t go any further. It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Pitching change here. Tanner Gordon. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. One down. And now it’s Victor Robless up to hit. Swings through that one for strike one. One and one. And he takes a strike. goes down looking for the strikeout. Couldn’t pull the trigger on a fast ball at the knees. Two down, base is empty. And the batter will be the shortstop. JP Crawford liner and that should be extra bases. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s in there standing up with a two out double. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. Back to the top of the Seattle order. Randy Roserena now at the plate. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strikeout. And that is out of play. high in the air out to right. Moniac should have this one. Drops into the glove and the inning is over. Three-run shot for Seattle. It’s now a 74 ball game. Back after this on the show. And we’re back. New inning getting started. And now the shorts stop. Kyle Farmer. The Rockies in striking distance but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. That one missed. Called strike right there. Big at bat right here. He did the team thing. Took until he got a strike. Now he’s got to go to work. Shorten up that swing a little bit. Do whatever it takes to get on base. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask. Settles under it. calls it in for the out and there’s one away. Now batting number 37. Next for the Rockies is the DH Braxton Fulford. All right. Come on Mariners. Yeah. And that’s downed away. Pitch misses there. Now two balls in a strike. And a swing and a miss there. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. swing and a miss and that’s his 200th strike out of the season. Two outs, space is empty. Next to hit, Mickey Moniac. He’s been a great free agent sign. And that’s a little bit high. One and0. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. And it’s fouled away. [Music] Check swing and he went and count one and two. two straight and there’s a ball and that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Battling here as he fouls it away. Still two and two after the foul ball. Two outs. That’s down and in. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Swang and a miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. [Music] Set for the last half of the seventh. Now the number two hitter, Cal Raleigh. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. On the ground to the left and that’s just foul. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Wow. No fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult. Oh, now this one’s high and D way back there on its way gone. [Applause] Another homer. Home run number 60 on the year. It’s 84. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. [Applause] No matter how this outing ends, that pitch is going to haunt him for a while. An O2 mistake. That’s supposed to be a pitch out of his own. He left it in a spot that the hitter could do some damage with, and that’s exactly what he did. And now for Seattle, Julio Rodriguez, 0 for three in this one. in for a strike. Go and one late on that fast ball. He’s had a tough day at the plate. Three strikeouts already. It’s hard not to think negative, but you got to find a way to somehow center up the baseball and put it in play. And that one is inside ball one. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here. The bottom of the seventh and they’ll do it again. A defensive swing right there. Some cheese on the inside part of the plate. Bet the hands are still stinging after that one. Line drive and foul ball to the right side. And that one handled and one away in the bottom of the seventh. Now betting first baseman Josh at the plate. Josh Naylor three for three, two singles and a homer. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Not sure if he was expecting for the pitcher to come right at him, but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way. Tap foul at the plate. One down, base is empty. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Got him. Two out. And stepping in for the Mariners, Jorge Palanco. Jorge Palanco. There’s the strike in the on deck circle. You really want to use that opportunity to see some pitches and time up the fast ball. Last thing you want to do is miss a good hitable fast ball early in the count. Fast ball for a strike. And now one and two. I don’t know how you take that one after the called strike on the corner. Just a little bit off the edge. That missed by a lot. It’s two and two. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two down to and down on strikes he goes. That K is his third of the game. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now an 8-4 score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Luke Jackson. And he’s got a nice lead to work with. So he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. [Music] Jackson. Now the Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman. For the Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman. Seattle. First pitch and he just misses. Action in the pen down there. Gabe Spire up and loosening in the pen and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. got him swinging. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Crim in the box now. No balls in a strike. All one swing and a miss and a count. One and two. Just a really nice slider down and in there. He wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball. Speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement. That’s to third. Two up, two down here in the top of the eighth. Now batting leftielder Jordan Beck. Here’s the left fielder Jordan Beck. 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out. That one outside and it’s one and0. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Mariners strike two. All sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. Outside low two and two. The Mariners leading by four and we’re in the top of the eighth. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. This one could be trouble and that’s going to roll to the wall into second and he’s got a double. Everything came together for him. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Ezekiel Tovar digging in for the Rockies. Struck out on just three pitches last time. And first offering is fouled off. Beck at second with two down. That one hammered center field. That’s back there. Unbelievable. He’s there. He’s got it. And that’ll do it. So, a two out double, but they don’t score. Home half of inning number eight straight ahead. It’s the Mariners eight and the Rockies four. Now pitching. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Anel Shave. He last pitched two days ago. And now for Seattle, Aueno Suarez. Auheno Suarez swinging a foul straight back. Shvi, a 6-2 righty. He features a four seam fast, a change up, and he works in a slider. That one ran inside. Almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. Next offering is fouled back. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Highf fly ball out to left field. Nabs it and there’s one down. Good pitch. He just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn’t able to stay closed. leftielder. And now here is Dominic Canzone. And that skips in the dirt. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen number 55 appears to be getting loose. Bases empty, one away here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] There’s the strike at the knees. Fouls it off. Still one and two. blows the high hee past him. That’s a strike out. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. And a swing and a miss. That one the other way. JP Crawford up next for the Mariners. One for three. First offering and it just misses. Let’s go Mariners. The shorts stop takes a ball. Ripped to third, but handled. And that’ll end the inning. One left for Seattle, but they still lead it by a count of eight to four. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Gabe Spire. And he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. So, digging in, Brenton Doyle. I think when you contemplate him as a player, the first thing you think about is defense and you think about that great arm. I also think about the speed. If he can get on, that’s going to give one more thing for that pitcher to think about. Fast ball is outside. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Casey Legumina getting ready to go. Brash, a hard throwing right-hander up as well. Little bouncer out in front of the plate. No play. That’s an infield single. It was a healthy cut, but the same can’t be said for the contact. He got just enough of the ball to put it in play. And that’s all he needed. Tough play for the defense on what was kind of a swinging bunt. So, a man at first. Now to third baseman, Kyle Keros. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Well, the leadoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully, the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. When you throw a fast ball by a guy like that, I imagine it’s got to feel incredible. Look for him to throw it again at some point. goes down looking. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. He got three straight fast balls looking in the 02 count just to pour it back. So, up next, Kyle Farmer right through there for a strike. Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] Fights it off. He’ll see another. Doyle leads off first with one away. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. And they’ll have runners at the corners after a one-out single. Now batting number 37. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Gabe Spire departs and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. now pitching. So they turn to their closer, Andres Munoz. He’s doing the ball very well overall this season. He’s been really tough to get to. You see that erra and that’s where you love to be. Two on, one out. Next to hit for the Rockies, Braxton Fulford. Fly ball down the line. Robless on the run towards the line. pulls it in on the run. Runner tags for home. The throws offline. He’s saved. It’s eight to five. Oh, that’s a quality at bat right there. You know the situation. You need something in the air and deep enough. And that’s exactly what he did. Good pass to the baseball. So, they’re down to their final out. And now the right fielder Mickey Moniac swings through that one out in front that time. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never had a chance and there’s a strike on the outside corner. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you’d have to wait until ripped to short and that is the ball game. When you win five in a row, the confidence just goes to another level and you start to gain this momentum and you think that you’re never going to lose a game again because things are clicking up and down the lineup. Pitchers are pitching, the team is making the plays defensively. This is the kind of feeling it’s not going to last all season long, but you want to ride it as long as you possibly can. Perhaps push it up to double digits. And this one ends with the score eight to five for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shabi saying so long.
