  1. We were so spoilt to have Mo closing for us for a decade and a half. After going through a bunch of closers since his retirement, we have realized how difficult a closer’s job is and how easy he made it look. No drama, no suspense, no heart attack, just a quick 1-2-3 inning and the Yankees win.

  2. Top ten Mariano Rivera moment for me.

I* will always remember how he went to the mound after Boone’s walk off home run in Game 7 of the 03 ALCS and wept. He pitched three scoreless innings in that game and earned ALCS MVP honors. I remember counting pitches during that game and telling my dad frantically that there was no way he could go another inning. My dad said Joe (Torre) wouldn’t take him out, there was no way. Then Boone hit the home run and I didn’t have to worry anymore lol.

In a lifetime, we may never again see the kind of home grown core we enjoyed in Rivera, Bernie, Jeter, Pettitte, and Posada. The Fantastic Five. Such a special team.

  3. Best.Team.In.All.Of.Baseball. Love ’em, hate ’em … whatever … there’s no denying the Yankees are greatest team in baseball.

  4. I was there! The stadium was going nuts, of course. And the “Mar-i-a-no!” chants continued endlessly.

  5. I fucking hate the Yankees but it’s impossible to not get emotional over this moment. Instant classic.

  6. My children look at my Yankee memorabilia throughout the house and are too young to know about the players in the pictures and cards. They rely on old dad to flesh out the stories. When they ask me about my picture of Mo, I tell them that of all the Yankees of that era, he was the most special. He truly was the greatest to ever do what he did.
