🔴LIVE 🔴Tampa Bay Rays vs Toronto Blue Jays /September 26/ Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25
show as an AL East matchup. It’s the Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays. And now, first pitch coming at you right after the break. Toronto Blue Jays. Just about set to go now. And on the mound now, Louie Vland and singing. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Jake Mangum the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one first pitch 707 and that drops in for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. On the ground to first and it goes just foul. line to right and that’ll be a base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Are you kidding me? Well, that’s one of those knocks where you almost expect to get some jabs from your teammates when you get back to the dugout. He clearly didn’t catch that one on the big part of the bat. Just kind of muscled it out there. And you know on the mound it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Yandi Diaz the next to hit takes outside. Next offering is in for a strike. headed towards the corner and a foul ball with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Got him now. One away. Oh, that’s not the best two strike fast ball I’ve seen, but certainly got away with the location there. You know, sometimes as a hitter when you’re down in the count, you’re so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate, not expecting it, and it just kind of freezes you. Junior Camroero digs in now. That one outside and that’s ball one. Man at first, one away. Late swing fouled all. Varent throws to first. Mangum dives back in safely. Inside and it’s two and one. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. This one in the air center field. Varo settles underneath it and puts the squeeze on that one. And there’s two down. All right, let’s take a look at the lineup. a very athletic offensive group with speed spread throughout this offense. Yeah. And it’s so important that they have patient and quality at bats because the key is to get on base. If they do that, then they can create a whole lot of havoc on the base pass, get runners around to score, and then that’s going to get you some good pitches to hit as well. So, a very athletic team, and we should be in for a treat in this one. It’s not the standard approach that we see in today’s game, but it does work for them offensively. Hard hit left side. They get the force and that is the inning. The Rays strand just the one and now the Blue Jays will get their initial shot. No score back after this on the show. And we’re back and starting this one Drew Rasmusen. Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a three to one strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So, when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. Here’s the veteran second baseman, George Springer. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Foul ball there. battling here as he fouls it away. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that’s downstairs now. One and two. swings and miss has struck him out. So digging in Nathan Lucas. Lucas swinging a miss. Strike one. Fast ball is outside. And that one hammered back there. And that ball is out of here. his 12th of the season. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. That’s as big as it gets right there. You take advantage of a mistake. That is an ultimate. Here it is. Watch it. I’m going to jog around the bases. That’s right. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in there and it’s 0 and one. I love the fact that we’ve seen both Vladimir Guerrero and Vlatty Jr. win the home run derby. They’re the first fatherson duo to ever win it. Vlatty back in 2007 and Vlatty Jr. in 2023. Even though his dad didn’t give him any advice for the event other than to go out there and hit home runs on the ground low and Guerrero is set down batting for it. Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays and one of the most exciting young stars in the sport, Addison Barger. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position, are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Swing and a highf fly ball to left. Morell sizes this one up, makes the grab and that will end the inning. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now one- nothing. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. All set for the start of the inning. And stepping in for the Rays, Richie Palasios. Var back to work. Hot shot to third. One out in the second. Batting six, catcher Nick Forz. Nick Forz next to hit for the Rays. This is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively, Chris. And when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position. And that’s what he does. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. The hitting’s going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. That one off the mark and the count one and two. And that’s downstairs and outside up the middle. Sneaks through base head. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Batting seven. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. just shot it through the infield. One down. Carson Williams next to hit for the Rays. Line drive and this might be trouble. Lead runner touches second, headed for third. Heading for the plate. He’ll score and the Rays tie the game. Well, he gets it done in a big spot to get the run across. put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box. And he’ll feel real good about that one. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Pereira getting ready to hit left field. Brings it in. And there are two outs. batting n first Bobby Seymour. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Bobby Seymour Blueon. That’s off the mark. One and0. base hit center field. Rounds third headed for the plate. Here comes the throw. He will score and they take the lead. It’s two to one. Well, he comes through clutch with the RBI single. That was big. Kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that. You have to bury it. Otherwise, it’s not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that time. Two outs, runner on first. Brandon Laauo. the next to hit in the dirt. Blocked and a swing and a miss. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When he elevates, hitters aren’t touched. Fouls one off. Two and two. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Two runs, three hits, no errors, and one left. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the Rays two, and the Blue Jays won. We head to the bottom of the second. And now for the Jays, Anthony Santandere. There’s the strike. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Dalton Vo now at the plate. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. One out. Base is empty. Let’s go. The next pitch misses and the count even. One and one. Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one. Well, with Simmons, it’s not always your standard strike zone. Boog. It kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others. But I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent. So you got to stay ready up there. Now this one is hammered way back there. On its way and gone and we are tied. A solo shot. His 21st of the year. And we’re level. It’s 22. Sigy. That’s a special one. His 100th career home run man. 100 career homers. Pretty impressive. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. So it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Ernie Clement next up for the Blue Jays. Bunting for a hit. He pops it up. Rasmusen makes the grab for the second out. Well, he gave the bunt a shot there, but not able to execute. Yeah, I think he rushed it a little bit. And when guys rush, can be a popup or can be bunted right back at a position player. That one ripped and it hits the fence, makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s in with a standup double. So, runner at second. Two down. And next for Toronto, Tyler Heinaman. And that one just missed off the outside edge. As a pitcher, you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So, you really have to execute on the mound. upstairs and it’s two and0. Well, out there on the mound, he’s got to go right after this hitter because you don’t want to turn this lineup over. This is the guy that you’ve got to get that final out, get out of this inning. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Right through there for a strike. That’s off the mark. Three and two now. They tried to get him to go chase the pitch down and away, but he wouldn’t bite. George Springer in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Swing and a miss. And that is that. But we’re all tied up thanks to this solo homer. And we’re deadlocked now at two a piece. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back now in Toronto. And now the DH Yandi Diaz. There’s a swing and a drive. Lucas long run on his horse and one hops the wall and that’s a leadoff double. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Now up for Tampa Bay. Junior Camero. First offering and it just misses. Diaz stands at second with no outs. And another ball. Oh, that pitch not even close. A two- count now. He can’t be over aggressive. He’s got to make sure that pitch is right on a T for him. Now it’s belted deep to left. Way out of here. Home run. He made him pay for that one. It’s 42. The pitcher knew as soon as that ball left his fingertips, it was trouble. Right on a platter, right down the heart of the plate. I’m sorry, but big league hitters don’t miss that pitch. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Louisie Varlin departs and the opener strategy clearly didn’t work out this time. New arm coming on. We’ll be back after a short break. New pitcher now for the Jays. Number 65. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Now here’s the Tampa Bay cleanup hitter Christopher Morell swinging a ground ball up the middle lays out but he can’t squeeze it. No throw. He’s in safely and now there’s a runner at first. Man at first, nobody out. Richie Palasios next to hit for the Rays. 0 for one so far. grounder might be two. It’s in and out of his glove. Fires to second for one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Well, that was clearly a double play ball, but the bobble unfortunately prevented him from being able to get two, but a good job to stay with it and make sure you got at least one. And now the catcher for the Rays, Nick Forez, one for one with a single and a run scored so far. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Action in the pen down there. Brendan Little, the left-hander, is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go. Rodriguez getting cranked up as well. That one’s in there and a count one and one. And that’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. Still only one out here in the inning. Pickoff move to first and he’s back in safely. and a one-two. Just misses the mark outside the zone. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire and out there on the mound. Maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. Here’s a 2-2. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and there’s two away. And stepping in for the Rays, Carson Williams. He doubled home a run in his first AB. And that one is downstairs. Ball one. Now to short. Jimenez slings to first. Out number three. The Rays with a two-run homer. It’s now 42. You’re dialed into the show. As we go to the last of the third, here’s George Springer. George Springer to the left side, but it is well fouled. Swinging a foul out of play. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And the pitch that’s to third Camro throws across the diamond. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. Now batting right fielder Nathan. Now the number two hitter Nathan Lucas. He’s already homered here in this one. Let’s go. Lucas 30 years old now and he was drafted in the seventh round back in 2015. Next offering is in for a strike. Liner snagged it first. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. So, up next for Toronto, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounded out his first time. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. And another ball. Swing and a miss. And it’s two and one. You know, that’s a swing you’ll see a lot against a good sinker. Just right over the top. Tough to barrel that up. Swings through that one for strike two. Got him looking. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Down in order go the Blue Jays. They trail it here. Four to two. Now, Brendan Little comes on. Now, this softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. Little now up for Tampa Bay. Ever Pereira fly to left his first time on the ground to third. fires over to Guerrero and one gone in the fourth as they get the leadoff man. Now batting first base. So up next, Bobby Seymour. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and it’s one and0. swing in a ball hammered left field. That’s down. One hops off the wall. He’s in at second with a one out double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Brandon Laauo will hit next. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Check swing and he went and that’s strike one. ground ball to the right side, takes it to the bag, steps on first, and it’s out number two. Up next for Tampa Bay, the designated hitter, Yandi Diaz. Yandi Diaz next to hit for the Rays. One for two. Come on. Just missed little. He’s kind of a prototypical bullpen arm in today’s game. Electric stuff that results in a ton of strikeouts in a tough spot like this. That is a big time benefit. That’s off the inside corner and that’s ball two. No, as a hitter, when a guy like this comes into the game, you feel like he’s standing on top of you, and it’s just attack mode coming right at you, expecting to get a swing and miss. Junior Camroero would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already, so I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. So now two on and two outs. That just came apart right there. four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Here’s a big power threat. Junior Camro, he’s already homered in this game. That misses ball one. Popped up foul territory behind the play. And that’s a foul ball. Corners are occupied with two down. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. and fouled off. Two two now. Gets a piece and stays alive. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. So, the Rays strand a pair, but they still lead this one four-2 back here at Rogers Center. Now, it’s the DH Addison Barger. fought off foul. Well, these Blue Jays just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of Here’s a drive out to right center. Way back there. Look out. Gone. His 21st of the year. It’s 43. He just sparked this home crowd in a big way. What a swing. That’s exactly the pitch he was looking for. Crushes it and hits it out of the ballpark. Anthony Santandere at the plate. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Sea strikes him out for the second time today. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him and you know the cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. you’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact. But that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. So digging in Dalton Vo. There’s the strike. Hard hit right side. Steps on first for the out. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Clement. Ernie Clement next up for the Blue Jays. There you see how he’s doing down the stretch with his August and September splits. misses outside and that is ball one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Kevin Kelly warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Baker also getting ready right through there for a strike. Trying to hold a one-run lead. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Fouled off down the right side. On the ground to third and that will end the inning. But not before they answer back with a solo home run. It’s now a 43 ball game. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Sir Anthony Dominguez. Well, he’s been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes. He’s definitely struggled with free passes this year. Dominguez. Now, here’s the Tampa Bay cleanup hitter, Christopher Morel. Christopher Morel. Let’s go. And a strike on the outside corner and it’s 0 and one. Well, these Rays, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. We’ve heard lots of loud noise coming from their bats in this one, haven’t we? I mean, they’ve logged six hits at 90 plus exit velocity, and that doesn’t happen by accident. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. So, up next, Richie Palasios bowl for two in this one. That one fouled off up and in. And it’s one and one. And that’s in the dirt. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Chance to strike out the side. Now you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss. Whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Forez up to it for the third time as he lays off inside ball one. Oh, and he hit him. That pitch right there didn’t even sniff the zone. He was all out of whack on that delivery. And now the shorts stop Carson Williams. Blue. That’s in there. Strike one. That one drilled left field and foul ball and a swing and a miss. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. No runs on no hits, no errors and one man left. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Rays four and the Blue Jays three. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound, Kevin Kelly. Well, I got to think he probably has a little extra in the tank facing his former team. And there’s not a player in the league that doesn’t get a little extra motivation when he plays against his old squad. Jimenez up to bat next. lays off for a ball. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. There’s the strike and it’s two and one. looking to get the tying run on base off the plate and now three and two. Tyler Heinaman in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That one is absolutely belted in one hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. Safe at second with nobody out. And he represents the tying run. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Off the bat, it was headed for the gap all the way. And as a hitter, you love seeing those as you take your first couple of steps out of the box. You know, you got some real estate to run on. And such a good feeling. Nice liner into the gap right there. A chance now to even the score and maybe extend this game. Tyler Heinaman next up for the Blue Jays. Ball one there. So the tying run at second. So two balls and no strikes. He looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. That one lifted to left. Morell sizing this one up. Brings it in. And there’s one down. Now batting second base George Springer. And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. Outfield playing very deep. not wanting anything over their heads. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. And that one fouled off. hammered. Could be extra bases. Oh, he botches it. The run comes in from second tie ball game. 44. Such great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing. And there he doesn’t try to do too much. So, the go-ahead run is into scoring position. And now for the Jays, Nathan Lucas. And that misses. And that’s ball one. Right through there for a strike. Hard on the ground to first and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting first Vladimir Guerrero Jun. And a big spot here for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Swings through that one. 0 and one. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. Back and forth we go. a seessaw battle in the late stages of this one. That missed by a lot. Now one and two. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. Just misses. Two and two. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Popped up. drops into the glove and that is the inning. The Jays push across a run on this double. It’s now tied 44. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now as it’ll be a pinch hitter to lead off. Number 14. A critical at bat in this game for him. Dominguez back to work right down to shoot. It’s 0 and one. Trying to keep good speed off the bases comes up empty. That’s strike two. Movement in the bullpen. Jeff Hoffman, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Rodriguez getting loose as well. 0 and two now on the outside corner. Got him looking. Well, I’m not really sure why he let that one go by. I mean, out of the hand, it had a lot of the strike zone. Sure, it had some good armside run at the end to move to the outside part of the plate, but with two strikes, you got to be ready to swing it there, and you can’t leave it in the umpire’s hands. Now it’s going to be Bobby Seymour. There’s the strike. And that’s ripped for a base hit. So the go-ahehead run is on base with a knock. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. That’s a good sound coming off the bat, man. And as he connected out front, ripped it into the outfield. That’s one of those swings where you just don’t even feel the ball hit the barrel. That’s a pure stroke. Here’s the Rays leadoff hitter Brandon Laauo and that’s off the outside edge. One and0. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. Next offering is in for a strike. He’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in line drive. That’s a base hit. They’ll throw to second save. Couple of singles back to back. That can be a dangerous pitch if you don’t get it inside enough because as a hitter, you see it coming across the plate the whole way. No problem handling it and putting a good swing on it that time. Now the go-ahead runs in scoring position. So big opportunity for them to jump ahead late. And now here is Yandi Diaz. Seymour on second. La at first. One gone. That one missed. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Tied at four. Inside. Just missed. He’s getting a little frustrated out there on the mound. Getting hit around a little bit. Let’s see if he can settle himself down. One out. Runners at first and second. Two on, one out. On the ground to short. Could be two offbalance feed. There’s one relay to Guerrero in time. Inning ending double play. They made it look easy, but it started with a nice feed to the second baseman from the shortstop. Perfect turn and they’re out of this jam. Back now for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Ryan Baker. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. So, now the DH spot, Addison Barger. Addison Barer. And the first pitch misses for ball one. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. The one-1 swing and a miss as he was late. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fells that fast back. And now the count is even. and a swing and a miss. Leadoff man retired in the six. With that kind of velocity, an elevated fast ball, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. Now at the plate, Anthony Santandere struck out on just three pitches last time. And that one’s a little bit low. And that’s ball one. Puts it in the air out towards left center. Morell settles underneath it. Two down. Are you kidding me? Now batting center fielder Dalton. And now Daltton Baro. Ball one. No strikes. Bullpen movement for the Rays. Ian Seymour up and throwing. And that is in for a strike. And it’s one and one. That one to first. And that’s just foul. Twins and misses. It’s a strike out. That’s the third out and we’ll play extra innings in this one. One, two, three, go. The Blue Jays still all square at four apiece. Back now. And on the mound, the closer Jeff Hoffman. Well, he’s had trouble at times keeping the ball in the park this season. Something to keep in mind here. Junior Camero digs in now. Made at second, nobody out. And Chris certainly one of the things in his head is trying to get the runner over. Yeah, the way that we see the game played today though, guys are not sacrificing as much just to get that runner across. They’re really looking at doing damage. Slugging is the name of the game. And that’s outside now two and 0. Yeah, I think part of that goes into it’s just so hard to come up with hits in today’s game. Starters don’t go deep and so hitters are seeing multiple pitchers every night and that makes it more challenging just to come up with a single. Next offering misses. Now three and one. Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Blind drive. That’s a base hit into right field. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners. Nobody out. So they hold the runner at third wanting to play it safe. Think that comes back to bite him. Boy, it’s hard to say. That runner on second to start extras is critical and you want to make sure you don’t waste him. If they don’t score this inning, there’ll be some second guessing for sure. Now we’ve got a substitution at third base. Pinch running here for the Rays. Josh Low. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. Down and away for ball one in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring with a go ahead run at third. And here in extra innings fouled off. He was late. Next one misses. Two and one. headed towards the corner and that is a foul ball. Runners on the corners. No outs. Got him swinging and that is a big first out. So, he needed a strike out there and he got it. And now we’ll see how they play it defensively. Yeah, now they can move the middle infielders back a little bit. Get into double play depth and look for a ground ball and roll it up, get a big double play, get out of this inning. I tell you what, that was a big strikeout in a spot where they really needed one. Now Richie Palasios and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. swings and misses. And that is strike two. First and third, one down. Nice stop from his backside. Here’s one. What a double play that was. Inning over. Making it look easy at the Keystone position. Definitely worth another look. He’ll get some high fives when he gets into the dugout. Bottom of the seventh now. Here is Ernie Clement. Oh, how he’d love to walk it off right here. Check swing called strike. to third. Tosses across to first and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Here’s Andre Himenez. Listen, there’s absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right here. You nibble. You see if he’ll expand his zone, but don’t give him anything to hit. If you walk him, not a big deal. You have a double play opportunity set up. And he grounds one back up the middle, dives, and he can’t hang on. No throw, and they can’t get the out. Clearly seeing the ball very well in this one. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. Hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly, but you can’t really blame the defense in that case. Now with the winning run at third, they’re looking for a ball to the outfield, but that inning ending double play is in order. Swings and pulls it foul to the right side. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Tied at four. Swinging a foul out of play. Andy O2 in the air pretty deep out to center field. Makes the grab. Runner tags from third. Throw is offline. This one’s over and the Blue Jays walk it off 54. These can be tough at bats when you know you’ve got to get the ball in the air. At worst case scenario, that pitcher is going to try to tie you up, throw you up and in. But he did a good job pulling the hands through extension to put that ball deep enough out into the outfield to score that run and win this game. close one here today and your final 54 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shami saying so long.
