Drew Commesso believes he’s NHL-ready, but there’s no Blackhawks roster spot available

Maybe genius Kyle who never makes mistake needs to make an impactful nhl trade ohh me smkersyg
Prove it.
I’d like to think Drew will get some games this year with the big club, probably via injury call up.
I mean you can’t trade him now and get anything for him, someone seeing him in some NHL action might generate interest.
I’d need a bigger sample size to agree with him, but confidence in himself is a good starting point. He’s probably not ready to go all in as much as he’d like to be, but goalies tend to have a longer development timeline, and that is completely okay.
Look at Crawford, who was a fellow 2nd round draft pick. Drafted in ’03 (3 years before Toews / 4 years before Kane), but didn’t become a mainstay on the roster until AFTER the cup in 2010. If Commesso needs to fill in and looks great, then he could be a future trade chip or the next backup or 1B. Those calling to trade him now based on an AHL sample at best aren’t thinking long term. The return might be an AHL forward or a low draft pick that doesn’t solve any gaps in the roster today.
Building a competitive team isn’t super easy. Otherwise, every playoff spot would come down to the wire. The trade deadline would be madness trying to figure out who can sell or not if it was super easy. It would be great, but it’s just not reality.
Let’s keep developing the kid and see how he fills in when called upon. Crawford didn’t hit the NHL full time until 7 years after he was drafted. Commesso is still 2 years out from that deadline. I think Crawford got too much hate for how great he was for the team. I’d love for Commesso to be another Crawford story, but once again, patience with prospects is key.

this probably would have been his year to prove it as a backup if it wasn’t for the Spencer Knight trade
We all want things.
I personally don’t think Comesso will fare well in the NHL, especially with our young D.
Great problem for the hawks to have – good luck Drew
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Soda traded at this deadline, and Commesso brought up as full time backup. Assuming Brossoit never returns.
