People feel us when we speak. Brought to you each and every day by Wing Stop where Flavor gets its wings. Wing wing wings. How we doing fellas? Good. Big day today. Cut down day. Big day. Day that’s very near and dear to Nate Newton and Jesse Holly’s hearts. It happens to everybody at some point in time. Just about. It happens. They tell you you’re not good enough. Some folks get to walk away on their own terms. A lot of folks don’t. Yep. Most any uh first off, how are y’all? I’m Superman. Well, see you later. You good? Doing good. Doing good. You good? I’m Gucci. All right. How about you? I’m good. I’m good. Got a colorful shirt on and everything. Looking looking I wore I wore shorts today. Saw that. Legs out and everything. It’s you know a little chilly in here. I probably wear pants from now on. First time I may think maybe I’ve worn shorts. But Chris said he made a mistake. Said we could go as long as we wanted today. And we’re talking about maybe just going for three hours. Y’all talking about going? Do Do we get Do we get 30 bucks? I mean, let me be very clear. Maybe that’s Chris. Do we get 30 bucks if we go for three hours? Let me be very clear. You mean three three4s of the world gone? Yeah. We’re going to give you $10 an hour. So, you go as long as you guys. All right. We were We were thinking about Well, I was thinking about going until at least 3:15 to get these final cuts in, but three guys going probably not because an hour. He going to cut, he going to cut, and I’m going cut. Right. Lot of good stuff to talk about today. We could talk about Micah Parsons. We can talk about number seven. We could talk about final cuts. We could talk about number 10. Let’s uh let’s just start with any surprises so far in the in the cut so far. Anybody? Anybody? You’re kind of like, hm, that’s interesting. Well, the the trade. Yeah. Talk tell us who what’s the trade. Well, you you saw first Austin Richards getting traded New Orleans for a sixth. They’re sending Austin in a six. Sorry. Awesome in a seventh and New Orleans is sending back a six. Sixth. Kind of shocking that you need depth at offensive line and he’s been somewhat productive for you in a backup role. Seemed like at the end of last year we thought maybe he could be a starter and now all of a sudden they were saying he probably wouldn’t even make the team. So, well, here’s where you here’s where you run into that situation when you have coaching changes, right? When when a when a coaching change happens, the guys who were once here and thought about him in a certain way are not the same guys who are here this year and look at him as a certain way. Technique changes, style changes, what they want from their players change, like how the players built, what he’s really good at. All those views change from from coach to coach. I’ll give you another example. Um, Deone Clark, if there was a doghouse when um when when uh when Zim was here, he was under the doghouse. He was under that, right? And this dude was walking around with his head down, right? He was like, “I’m Why am I still here?” Yeah. Let me go. Out with Zim. In comes this new this new group. All of a sudden, he’s playing better. Yeah. Walking around with his head up, bro. Right. alert. So that that’s something that can come about with Awesome Richard because you know Nate was talking about it earlier like man this kid was on the verge of being a starter. Look he could be a starter this year like he can’t play football. A lot of that has to do with sometimes the style and which the coaches who are now in control want. He may not fit it. He may not may not worked well with him and that’s just what it is. Is it like they they’re in the case of Clark in one hand and Richard’s on the other. Are they were they like using him differently? Are they teaching him new things? one helps one and doesn’t the other or yes all styles like he said all all that he simply said was styles his styles of players and that coaches like uh attitude you know I tried to uh none of the scouts would give me a a definite answer this year or last year I’m like what is wrong with awesome riches I would ask them straight up well and they never gave me a direct and I kind of figured out maybe it was his confidence you know maybe it was his overall confidence here, the swagger that he never showed him. Uh they never felt that way about him, but uh he was that swing tackle. He was that guy that was going in. So that kept him up. This year here, he had one position that was backup right tackle, you know, and still didn’t get hurt during training camp. And then another guy showed to be a better pass blocker. So they got the other kid, uh Donna G. Adana J. Adon. So he did kind of right now that swing tackle. So that moved him out of a spot. So is this just a case of he was probably getting cut anyway. So get something for him. Yeah. But see the fortunate thing about it and just to tell you it’s best to go with somebody kind of like you right then where nobody else is caring about you. Yeah. Uh can I read this right here? Number five. Sure. We always seem to get worried about who the Cowboys could lose on cut down day. who will be be who will be poached by other teams, but is it true that these guys probably ain’t going to have much impact anyway? I love that. So, I love that. Here’s the thing. It’s that the numbers are out about and and and this is we live in the day and time now where everyone has access and content creators and so on and so forth and like, oh, we we can’t lose that guy. Historically, the only people that really get snagged when they get released to the trading point, offensive linemen and DBs. Every every single team. Yes. Every single team has a Tawn Holden. Every single one of them. And they like theirs and they like their Tan. They got McDonald’s at home. So like when you think about a guys like Tawn and and again this is not me ragging on these guys but there’s a Tawn, there’s a Deuce, there’s a Jaylen Brooks, there’s those type of players in everybody’s training camp every and they make a couple plays there and everyone’s saying and when I tried to tell people like hey a lot of these guys are going to make it back to oh man we’ve we we you don’t lose anybody like you don’t you don’t historically lose players that you release cuz think about it a guy Like Tan Holden, he was in the draft five months ago. No information has changed from what they knew five months ago. For what you may have seen in he didn’t get many reps in training camp, but he didn’t have a Victor Cruz type preseason, you know, when he took the world by storm. Nothing has changed. And five months ago, 32 NFL teams said, “Now we good.” Seven times. Seven times. They had a chance to draft him and they said, “Now we good.” And then he gets to free agency and the Cowboys and other teams said, “Nah, we good.” And well, the Cowboys didn’t say, but other team said, “Nah, we good.” And then the Cowboys said, “We like you, but we only like you for worth” They gave him $3,000. Three grand. That is three grand. I didn’t even know you could give somebody three grand in the league. Oh, no, no, no. You No, no, no, no. You can get Oh, yeah. As far as low that is. Yeah. Like that. That was what he got to sign with the Cowboys. Three grand. Now, I get it. His former wide receiver, coach, Junior Adams, 70, right? Three grand in a shotgun. Yeah. 70 dealer. Like, thank thanks goodness that he is his housing is already taken care of by the Cowboys while he’s here. You can’t even pay rent with that, right? You know what I’m saying? So, those are facts. Yeah. And and so you know you every year and and this this lets me know about us as media the things we’ll just grab on to. Yeah. You know the things that we will tell fans u that’s dedicated to I’m not I’m not let you ain’t put me in that group. Not not you let me not not you just don’t don’t put yourself in that group. No I’m not. But I’m saying we tell the truth. They don’t want to hear it. We are we are the media. So I’m you know I don’t we we go and we look and we see and we watch and we call our names. Yes. And we we talk to the folks and we tell the truth and then they look at us and they call us haters. They they we we the old players that that that whatever. But we call haters. We we call everything but the child of God. I just like how Kurt you worded this very gently and very nice. Every year we have 10 to 15 guys who us as media people, excluding Jesse, not Jesse, that we we tell these fans, “Oh, they got to be here. They got to be there. Oh, man. We we lose this guy.” And I always say in my mind, in my small mind, if they’re that good, why they can’t make the 53 man roster? Well, we need to develop them. Huh? Really? Yeah. Develop what? We don’t have time. Guess what y’all? Unless coach wants to do something real ridiculous, Milton won’t see another rep unless it’s a practice squad rep for another team. He will be the cards guy. Hey, throw this over here. Throw this over there. That’s that’s the reality of what’s happened. So, we taking a guy that we gave all our preseason to number 10, and putting him on the pine saying, “Bro, we’ll get with you next year.” What what does a Can y’all think of a guy in recent memory that has been one of these guys that you that was a bubble guy that you held on to that you developed and he actually turned into something more than a up down practice squad guy? Is there has there been one? Thomas he spent his first year on the practice squad I think. Yeah. And he’s been Yeah. He’s been okay. I mean he’s that’s okay. Good. He’s been a a solid backup special. Yeah. And that see but I mean outside how many guys are drafted in a year, right? And Jesse, I’m 100% with you. We we draft and draft is not an exact science. So when you say things are not exact now you’re looking at 70% of of anything can go wrong. Yeah. and and your chances the later draft the later in the draft you get the chance of it not go like you’re you’re you would think like percentages say Tyler Booker because he was a top 20 draft pick in the first round percentages will say there’s a greater chance that he will be successful in this league but as you get to the second round that percentage goes down and the third round that percent so by the time you get to Jay Toya in the seventh round and this is the part that’s a little bit And again, I’m not crapping on anybody. I’m giving you the reality of it all. By the time you get to Jay Toya, the odds of him being successful in the league are damn near slim to none, right? And then you’ll have the people, but you know who you know who ruined it for the people? People like Bland Bland ruined it. See, when you have that one Yes, that’s what I was got. Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Terrell Davis, and Ron Bland ruin it for everybody. No. All right. So, you name do that. You name in the history of the league in a 100 years of football. You see what I’m saying? That’s what I’m saying. Like, even when they bring up Dak Prescott, like look at the look at what he had. It’s like playing the lottery. Yes. Somebody’s going to hit. He got he he got to be a first round pick. People don’t forget the Cowboy didn’t even like Dak Prescott enough to take him in the the first fourth round pick that they had. They took Charles Tapper was the first fourth round pick. Mr. Jones wanted the kid that went to Denver, the quarterback that went to Denver. Paxton, right? Was it Paxton Lynch? Yeah, Paxton Lynch. So you you draft Dak Prescott one. He was in a battle with J Showers. He was behind J Showers who got converted to play safety. Then you needed Tony to break his back or collar bone or whatever part of the body part that he broke. Then you need to tell him more to break his ankle. And then you still got fans today that wish we wouldn’t have ever drafted him. That’s what I’m saying. And the thing about it, it took Will Mcclelay to tell our media who was trying to get somebody else in here, no, we going with this guy. Bro, our media, they tried to sell a man out and now they can’t stop smelling his butt. Come on, bro. So, hey. So, yeah, that’s how I feel about that. Yeah, that’s how I’m serious. So, do you do you look at yourself as media or non media? I look at Or does it depend on what show you’re on or what situation? The thing is the thing is I’m media. If you call it ESPN National, he’s media. He’s not. But but the difference between me and Jess is I’ll joke all week long. Y’all know that. But when it come time to talk about winning and losing, I’mma give you the real because you deserve it. If you gonna take your time and go to your TV or go to your radio or go to whatever device you have and you want to subject yourself to the hottest takes, you fooling yourself. Because when you have a conversation with real dudes who want to know real information and you go, “Well, uh, Wester said it, you’re a dummy. You are a dummy.” I’m serious. You are a dummy. My thing is this right here. We can all say today who should have made the team. That ain’t the issue no more, y’all. We have a new head coach with a new attitude trying to bring it. So, let’s see the 53 he select and let’s start judging those 53 and those 16 that’s on the practice. Let’s start judging them from this day. Let’s Oh, you know, such and such. Uh, awesome. Riches Nate, you love you’re awesome. Guess what? That’s that’s uh Mr. Um, I’mma throw 85 times Saint problem. That ain’t my problem. That’s his problem. Kill him. Yeah. Cuz they going to find out what he saw, what he had in Philadelphia. 86 when you say. So, this quarterback better be ready to throw. Yeah. All right. Let’s take our first break. [Music] Back to Hanging with the Boys. Welcome back to the second segment of Hanging with the Boys brought to you each and every show by blockchain.com. Thank you, blockchain.com. We forgot the break most breaking of all news all off season. Oh my god. Before we came on the show, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are engaged according to reports. According to our insider in the back. Yep. Who that? Who was the inside in the back? Chris was not me. It was Who that? Who? Who told us that? Chris, you’re not a Swifty. Me? Yeah. Okay. Did you hear this back here? No. Her post already has 11 million likes. Wow. Been in an hour. Yo, Chris and I have a theory. She’s gonna play the super. Yes, she is. There’s a really big theory behind this. Yeah. All right. The whole the whole Y’all forgive me, man. The whole podcast that she did with her had Easter eggs in it. Had Easter eggs about Super Bowl, man. All right, Jay-Z. What you going to do? All right. Well, there you go. Biggest news of the day. Yeah, we can go now. All right. How big of a deal is it that um Trayvon activated off the pup before these decisions are made? Does that help you or not go into the pup? Does that help you shape this team? Do you and then do you try to you try to get him on the field for the first game or do you wait till since you kind of got a little bit of an extended period with this being a Thursday night game, do you wait and start him the second game? What do you guys think’s going to happen as far as activating him and getting him on the field? And this just a guess. And please, Mr. Brown, don’t attack me. I think uh they’re gonna work him hard a I mean, they gonna extend him in in a few of these rehabs to see where he’s at. See, will he swell? Mr. Brown, is he talking about Brit? Yeah. I mean, I love Brit, man. Uh he he he a truthful guy. When he does want to share with you, he a truthful guy. Uh but they gonna have to and just tell me if I’m wrong, they gonna have to have a few uh days where they gonna push him because it’s no it’s no way you never gonna get that NFL work until you get it. But they gonna have to push him to see if he’ll swell. See, right now he’s just been easing. They’re going to have to push him at some point. And it correct me if I’m wrong, but he hasn’t had a pads on since December. Right. Correct. He just started putting on his shoes. Yeah. What’s wrong? What’s wrong? That is funny. You got some stingers today. I like Nate when he’s like this. This is a good time. What did I say? I mean, okay, real quick. The reason why he says this because the last practice Go ahead. No, because every time he’s out there rehabing, he doesn’t have any shoes on. So, some people just like to feel the grass on your feet. It’s called grounding, Nate. I thought he I thought he like Madden. Imagine like tying up his shoes or wearing them either. So, I mean, hey, um I think for Trayvon, I think he misses the first game. Mhm. I think I think to Nate’s point, they’re going to push him. Um but because there’s been such a long time since he’s been not like in practice and doing football things, um I don’t know if the first taste of, excuse me, because they’ll have a couple days of practice, they’ll have two, three days of practice. I don’t I don’t know if that’s the I don’t know if Philadelphia is the place that you want to no get thrown back into the fire. You know what I mean? That running back those two receivers has got to deal with that quarterback running. I I I just don’t know that’s the place where you want to start. You don’t want to get up to speed on those guys. I think so. I think you want to wait till New York. I think you want to wait to got to face the Giants a little bit more. You know what I’m saying? Like you just because that’s a lot. That’s a lot. Well, they got they got a wide receiver. I didn’t know how good that kid was till I started reading up on him. Which one? AJ or Devonte? No, I’m talking about Giant. Oh, Giant. Oh, Malik. Yeah, but this dude got a chance. Oh, no. Malik Malik definitely has a chance to be one of them for real. Um, but they don’t have a quarterback, right? They don’t have a quarterback that we really believe in and Russ or or Jackson or Jamus. Um, so I think I think they’ll push him, but I don’t think he’s going to come out this week and play. could be wrong, but I’d be having him back is is major because a couple months ago we thought it were going to be, you know, week five, six, seven, eight, somewhere around there. So, for him to be cleared and ready to go, um, in a couple of weeks, huh, in about three weeks, huh? You think he’ll be the same guy though after two knee surgeries and back to back back to back years? I mean I mean they’re sure counting on him to be physically. No, right because you can’t be the same person when you’ve done asking for agreement because I mean you’re talking about having an ACL mark it down an ACL and microfacture. Right. So you can’t possibly get back to the old you. I’m saying that I’m not saying that you can’t have this new version of you, but I mean just and and again, just because you’re cleared doesn’t mean that you’re fully mentally ready to go back out there and and perform. So, is is our corners from what you’ve seen, are they going to be uh man-to-man corners? Are they going to be cover two back off the guys playing off? Cuz you know, he did both before he was they do a lot of cover two, a lot of cover. Yeah. And he would play back. He would play sit he would play a lot of great situational football. Uh Trayvon did and he played it to the max. Is he g you know we got to find out is he going to be allowed to do that to jump routes? Al Harris gave them to him and Bland you see it go get it. We’ll we’ll deal with the rest later. And that was a that that was his special power was his ability to jump those routes and take the ball away. Yeah. Right. Go and make those plays. Former wide receiver so he has the hands and the ability to go up and make those catches. But in this offense with Matt Ibrafluence, defense defense, I’m sorry, excuse me. In this defense with Matt Ibrafluence, what’s going to be what’s going to be difficult for Trayvon and Blandon and all the guys in the secondary is we we’ve talked about it a lot, you know, when it comes to pass rush, marrying your pass rush to your pass coverage and vice versa. And we don’t know if we’re going to have Michael Parsons or not. Okay, I think we are, but we don’t know. until we have them, we don’t have them. If the front’s not getting home, that puts a lot of pressure on that back end. Yeah. And so when you’re talking about playing off coverage, cover three, that means you’re going to be eight to 10 yards off. You’re going to be looking in at the quarterback butt to the sideline. And now guys can just run these, you know, pitch and catch routes on you all day long. Five yard, six yard hitches, eight yard, 10 yard stop routes, slant routes, right? And so like you’re you’re hoping that you don’t complete it or we get a rhythm of it and we jump it, but if you don’t have anything that allows that quarterback to feel the pressure, meaning a pass rush, a guy that’s very disruptive up front, um because we we talk about numbers and analytics, it has shown when Micah Parsons is on the field, this is not, you know, rocket science. The defense is at its very best. when Michael Parson is off the field. This is the worst defense in the league. Like that’s just that’s factual. That is factual. He’s not hating. But if you think is the Jet fourth and long, Mr. Fourth and long, come on. Come on. Is that does that fact people are saying that’s why why he has leverage now? Parsons because No. No. Don’t do Don’t do you think we go to break. No. We got four minutes. Three minutes to talk about this. I want to see if I can if I can just get Jesse this to pile on. I know. Do you think deep down? All right. Micah shows up to the game eating nachos, walking out to the field. Micah’s laying on the training table like like his stomach hurts or something. Just rolling around on the table. not scratching his back, not on the practice field in a stadium with 45 50,000 people just rolling around like I just want to take a nap. And then Jerry is in the Miller Light Club talking to Micah’s mom and taking pictures with her and like and just smiling. And do you think deep down Jerry just loves this? Yeah. Just the drama and the tension and it’s like look at Michael Parsons showing up to the game. He not and he like do you think he secretly loves this? Oh yeah. Like he’s just enjoying like man they’re just talking about us this week. Jesse. Jesse without a eye. Uh when do you you know with all your knowledge and wisdom and understanding on how to Mr. Jones do things since you were invited to the documentary. Hey listen at the beginning it didn’t tune it. Stop. Stop man. Is that what I was told? Didn’t a great philosopher tell me that. And and at the documentary, Jerry did say, “It’s a soap opera 365 days a year.” Better to be in it than invited to it. When does this get done? When does this get done? What’s today? Yeah. Tuesday. And I’m asking you too, Kurt. And you too. Today’s Tuesday, Shannon. So, as after cut down days and they start getting to work, Friday becomes Wednesday. Yes, Chris. Right. Right. Friday’s Wednesday practice, correct? Uh, Friday. You think Friday? Yeah. Let’s do our predictions, Kurt. Let’s do our predictions. You go, Kurt, and then I’ll go. Oh, man. I Why not? I’d say he did it last year with Dak. Signed him on the day of the game. So, we’ll just go with that. I’m going to say you have you have you have personalities in play. I just give an answer, bro. Huh? Give an answer. I don’t think he done I think they I think they franchise I think we got a long time but Well, he’s already in the contract. So, you’re saying they’re going to hit the playout this year? I I don’t think they’re going to do anything this year. I think they’re going to hold the franchise tag over him and they’re going to be like, “You’re under contract.” Yeah. Get out there and play. If not, you miss your checks, miss too many games, you don’t get credit for this year, and then we can just keep dragging this out. I think I think I think you have two one personality has gone out in public and been like, “I’m the good guy. here’s what I offered. What more do you want? And there’s no movement on the other side. Unless I think unless Michael Irving gets involved and pulls Mic. He goes, “Let’s go talk to Jerry without your agent.” I think the agents dug in. I don’t think I think if Micah does honestly if Micah does that, there’s no need for them to be in business together. Meaning David Malugetta and and and Mic. If Micah does what? goes and talks without him. If he goes and lets Michael Irvin take him to go talk with Jerry and leave the agent out, there’s no need for us to be in business anymore. Is there any way he can Michael can continue to Oh, my back hurts. I can’t play. So, he’s there. He’s on the sideline or whatever. But he’s he can go on forever. It can go on forever. But here’s the Cowboys have to pay him, right? No, they will not pay him. So, what here’s where it’s going to get real messy at is because and that’s why the Cowboys did the MRI the other day. So the Cowboys can say we did our part and he’s cleared. Yeah. From what we saw in the M MRI, and this is the whole I’m not saying that Micah is doing an insurance scheme, but the whole insurance scheme is anytime you get into an accident, you always say it’s your back, right? Because it’s not detectable on what a back is unless it’s, you know, my back still hurts. It’s still stiff. There’s nothing that’s going to show up in the MRI that says either way, right? And so it’s your word against theirs. But that that’s where it becomes that’s what will become legally messy because they’ll start saying we cleared him. Yeah, he’s cleared the play and he’s saying my back hurts and they’ll say well we’re going to take this money and then what ends up happening is where where Micah kind of will suffer is it’s the litigation. It’s well we’re withholding the money and then now we got to go to court and got to get all involved and this whole time you won’t you don’t have this money. the money doesn’t go back to get spent by the Cowboys, they still have to put it somewhere. It’s it’s on hold, but you don’t get it. So, whatever plan that you may have had, if you had a house that’s getting ready to be built, if you had some business that you was about to acquire and needed to cash flow to have it, they’ll say, “We not paying them nothing.” And hold that money because he’s not playing. And then they’ll figure it out legality later on. And if they it turns out that they won, they’ll just go, “Okay, here here’s the money.” If not, we’ll go. Thank you. We got this money back. What do you think? I don’t care. I really don’t care. Uh because Wait, you don’t care if Mike is playing or not? He’s under contract. Mhm. It’s $24 million. And I understand that all these great fans say Micah deserves more. I understand all of that right there. But I I will ask you, you and you right now, if somebody gave you a million clear free dollars, would you be would Would Would you not know what to do with it? A million clear dollars? I’m going to know what to do. You know what? You would you not know what to do with it? A million free clear dollars taxree. My issue My pocket My thing is this right here. Mike ain’t g to miss no $24 million. No, Micah is a smart man. That is what Mr. Jones is banking on. This is a smart guy and he’s not going to go down there and lay down because he’s got to prove he need his money. So for me to sit up here and worry about whether Michael going to play or not. I think he going to play with 45 million or with 24 million. So I I I don’t even care. But I know he gonna hurt the team. Like Jesse just said, with with him, you know, I seen him moving night and day. With me, with Michael, we here. Without Michael, we here. And if you’re And if you’re Jerry and you’re like, go play. He’s got a ball out. Yeah. because he’s playing for but if he contract but if he if he if he does what Bale did with the Steelers and what this kid did with Philadelphia, I promise you both them young men would would try to stand strong but take the mic away from him. Man, I never do that again. Yeah, Le’Veon Le’Veon, that was stupid. So I I love Michael. He missed so much money. I love Micah and what he does for this team. I want him to get the money, but in my mind a business, and I don’t have the mind of you and Jess and all of them for his business wise, but I just don’t see it. I I don’t feel it and I don’t see it. $24 million, Michael, get your money, but not not not at the cost of losing 24 million. I just That’s why I don’t care. I think he going to be knocking it out the park. Yeah, he’ll be there. And he’s the last one. And all they asking for is 15 plays. They already know set it out there. Oh my god. We can just get 15 plays. Oh, come on, man. And he’s the last one, right? Yep. McLaren got signed. Hendrickson got signed. So everybody that was holding in or out got their money. The Steelers don’t last. Mike and the Steelers and and that guy, they don’t look at him as on his level. Uh Iron Haywood kid, he a baller, but they don’t look at him as that type of He older than T. He 35. He 35. He trying to get that lakehouse money. Yeah, wrong lake house money. All right, let’s take our last break. When we come back, more football, hanging with the boys. Be right back. You know, y’all, I saw something I thought I would never see the other day. But Oh, go ahead. Go. No, no, you go ahead on. That’s more important, I guess. No, no. I was going to tell you, Nate, it’s important to you. There is going to be a wing drop coming up. So, we’ll deal with that. Right. Okay. Okay. Drop. Drop the wings. Okay. A deep fry. Okay. Fry hard. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I s saw something I never thought I would see and it it’s Kurt. What’s that? I went by Kurt office the other day late up in the evening. Probably about 30 40 minutes before he was getting ready to leave. And every time I for the last six, seven years I go by, he’s over there at his computer just going. I mean, he’s intent. A lot of times I spoke to him and he didn’t even hear me. But I went the other day and Kurt was playing with his phone and I couldn’t believe it. So I went and took care of my business. Came back 10 minutes later. I said, “Kurt, what are you doing?” “Oh, I’m just killing time.” Not a can happen. Don’t tell lies. God. So Kurt, what happened you out of 20 years? You’re lying. That’s what happened. Okay. No, he he you know, sometimes you got to put the you got to put the plan in motion before you off. Okay. All right. I I just want I just thought I’d throw that out there, man. Was like, “Listen, I’m I’m I’m feeling a little frisky.” So, he start putting the work in that desk. You know what I’m saying? Like, I put the work in now. Got about 40 minutes, about 25 minute drive home. By time I get this, you live going to be like a little season a piece of hot and ready. All right. Okay. I just wondering, Kurt, I just wondering, baby. I just wonder. Three pumps. What were you doing, Kurt? I don’t know. You don’t know. You don’t even know, man. He didn’t know I was going to set him up. He didn’t know. I just I just feel that way today. I just can’t wait to see what coach Shanheim up what is final 53 going to be. Tell us how this how this goes down. Today or yesterday and today when when are they done with these decision? Is it kind of like the draft? Are you are you are you having conversations right up until the the cut time or did they know this yesterday? Are they still working on it today? And then how does that process work? Are they in the war room jockeying for position and I want this is my guy? How does this the whole thing go down? Is Jerry and Stephen involved or is it just kind of like here’s who we suggest and then everybody’s like okay cool how do they do this? Like how does it because that’s a lot of guys. Kind of a committee thing. I would hope that Will Mccclelay has a big say in the room but I would imagine the coaches should have a big say in the room. It’s a it’s a war room type setting. Um but again they they have all the names on the board, right? All 90. And you take that 45 46 that you already know, you know, they’re over here. They’re over here. And then now we’re looking at, okay, where where do we want to go with this? Do we want to go heavy over here offensive line? You know, who’s a guy that maybe we can get something for? or who’s a guy that we’re going to say, you know what, these guys are going to we’re going to pass these guys through, get on the practice squad. What is our practice squad going to look like? So, they’re they’re breaking down a multitude of things. They they knew going into training camp just about who the team was. Yeah. And and that’s just not that’s not cowboy that’s not cowboy centric. That’s NFL. They go into training camp knowing 85 to 90% of what the roster is going to be. And then you you having a guy like James Houston emerge and they go, “Oh, okay. this is a guy that he now those are the guys that they’re jockeying for a position but they’re making the trades like all right if you know how do we feel about Austin Richards h you know Clayton Adams and company probably like not really our style you know but again DBs offensive linemen those are the two positions that a lot of teams are always looking to have numbers at because you just don’t go and find DBs and offensive linemen at your Walmart at your local Home Depot. So, that’s the type of situation where we need um uh we we need a surplus in numbers. So, look at look at all the trade stuff that are happening. It’s it’s always signing signing DBs, signing offensive linemen right now. You’ll see a defensive lineman in the here and there, but offensive linemen and and DBs. So, they’re looking at that and saying, “All right, who can we who can we keep on our team? Who do we want to pass to the practice squad? Is there someone we can get something for?” And then you come down to a couple of guys where you have the question of all right guys we have a James Houston you know all right foo give me give me why we should keep them are you allowed to do you have to wait till 3:00 today or are you allowed as a team to contact other players and agents and go hey if they let you go we want to sign you the practice squad as if you waved or released if you’re on another team if you’re on another team You can’t. So you have to wait till 3:00 and then if you waved, you go on a peck in order. Correct. Last year’s draft, right? And the Cowboys are number 12. So when you get waved in order to claim you. Yeah. So for the Cowboys, 11 other teams have to say no. Yeah. And then when you fall 12, you can say you claim them and then you go back to the end of the line. You stay with stay. Oh yeah. Oh, the whole year. Yeah. Okay. If you waved. Here’s a little bit of a surprise. Calvin Watkins reporting they’re releasing Perion Winfrey, the defensive tackle. Some people thought he would What number was he? 99, I believe. Oh, I liked him. He He He hustled hard in camp. Yeah, some people thought he would. 99 hustled hard, but this is another guy who they’ll probably believe will pass through and make it to the practice squad. And with the new rules that you can bring these guys up and down a certain number of times throughout the year, you know, this is always a guy that you’ll, you know, if we got them here on the practice squad. And know there’s another thing too is where, you know, when you start talking about what we’re paying players, I keep telling y’all practice squad is not what y’all think it is. Like practice squad gets paid gets paid. They get paid. Rookies get paid less than what veterans get paid, but they get paid. And if a team decides, you know, hey, we want to make sure that you stay here with us, cuz some other teams may, you know, once you pass through waiverss, if you’re on waivers later on in the season, another team may come and say, hey, we want to put you on our active roster. The Cowboys can go, “Hey, Kurt, we really like you.” If they’re going to put you on their active roster, they’re going to probably give you league minimal and whatever that is per week. We can now pay you that. We’ll pay you that to stay on squad. And so some guys may say, “You know what? I’ll just stay here. I’m making active squad money, working three days a week, not traveling on the weekends, and I’m I’m a guy going down the way in a system that I know. Now, if it’s if you’re Perion Winfrey and the Kansas City Chiefs call you and they’re 11 and two, I’m out, guys. I’m going over here. you know, uh, but if you get a call, it’s the Jacksonville Jaguars and you know, two and nine. Said if you’re on a full season practice squad for 18 weeks, you minimum is like 230 grand. That’s not bad. I’d take that for about what? Like a rookie for a rookie for a practice for what? Eight months of work. Six. Yeah. They just free weekends free. Three days a week and week is off. You know what I’m saying? Sign me up. And you get to go to a sport event every weekend, get the best seat in the house. So that that’s what rookies make. Yeah. Be around like four or 500,000. All right, fellas. We’ll be back. We’ll be back tomorrow for uh the rest of the week, baby. Yeah. For uh Micah Watch 2025. We’ll have the 53man rock. Well, some things will still change. Yeah. Yeah. But we’ll have the the final cuts. We’ll talk about those. Would you guys want to do maybe because we always break down the opponent, but that’s kind of like next week’s. That’s Yeah, next week. Would you want to break down our offense like tomorrow and our defense? What the final? What the final is, where they’re good, where they’re bad. I mean, that I guess this is an off air conversation. There’s no Have you not noticed there are no off air conversations with this show? Well, we can talk about it. So, we’ll get a chance to break down Shotti’s first or roster. First roster. That’s great, man. Shotty, I’m with you, baby. I’m riding with you, man. When do we want to do season picks? Next week. The Cowboys. You got You got one show next week. That’s it. We got one show next week. Well, you got one on Tuesday and one on Friday because we have to travel to the game. Are we Do we have a show on Labor Day? You do not. So, you can just long weekend. Have the long weekend. Some of us can. So, T Let’s do Let’s do our season picks Tuesday. Let’s just do the whole show about revisit the schedule and our season picks. Okay. You want to do that? Pick the game. Everything. Pick the game. Talk. Well, I mean, there’s a lot. We only have one show. We’ll figure it out. We We’ll talk about this off air. How about Well, the man just lets you talk about it right now. Shotty, you the man. You said we’d go as long as we wanted to go. Shotty is the man, baby. Here’s what’s so funny. This whole thing about Holden, right? I’m I’m I’m seeing who people got cut. You remember Xavier Restreo, the guy from Miami? Yep. Like, he got cut, too. Like, everybody’s like, “Oh, he’s great. He had a great See, everybody has that guy like you said. Everybody’s got him and they won’t they’ll just rotate him through waivers. Jason Garrett said he wish he had 53 of me. Yeah. When he let you go. Said bye to the one that we got. It happens. It happens. And I I really don’t find that too funny, man. Cuz dude did me like that and watch it. All right, fellas. Good stuff. We’ll be back. When you get done like that, it’s good. Same time, same place. Good night at 3:30. See you. Come on by. Chris, thanks for keeping us on the air. Josh, thanks for keeping him company in the back. We’ll be back tomorrow. Same time, same place. Hanging with the boys. We out. This has been a production of DallasCowboys.com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. How about this? [Music]
Last season, Asim Richards looked like he might battle to become a starter. Now, he’s been traded. Meanwhile, Damone Clark was an afterthought a year ago. Now he’s shining. But that’s what happens when a new coaching staff comes in. Plus, should we be that worried about losing those guys on the bubble? Would they really make an impact anyway? It’s cut-down day, folks!
