Can the Cleveland Browns’ defensive line MANHANDLE the Lions’ o-line like it did to Green Bay?

Come on, Belch. You get my daughter and it’s all over. This could be a good show. Welcome to the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show on WKYC. I’m Jay Crawford. Over the next 30 minutes, all things Cleveland sports. Here’s an interesting thing we’re going to chew on here. Three great running backs in the game on Sunday. Is a possible Quinn Shawn Judkins is the best. Bull, I’m Adam the Bull. And the Cleveland Guardians, who would have thunk it? The final weekend of the regular season and they’ve got a ton to play for. Magic number is three to clinch the AL Central and it’s two to clinch a playoff spot. Can they get it done against the Rangers? We’ll discuss. G, I’m G. Bush and we’ll talk about O line versus Dline. The Detroit Lions got one of the best offensive lines in the game and we already know about Miles Garrett and them boys up front for the Browns. We’ll see who has the best chance to come out on top and who has the advantage. Jason, pre-written headlines. We all got it wrong last week. Nobody picked the Browns. Will we learn from our mistakes? Is somebody going to pick the Browns? Stay tuned. We’ll find out. Plus, Coach Tyus makes his triumphant return. Grant Delpet changed the game with his interception last week. And coach Tyus is going to explain why what Delpa did is not so ordinary and why it worked to perfection. But we’re going to start in the battle of the trenches, guys. The Browns defensive line versus the Lions offensive line. And if you missed it, the Lions offensive coordinator had some uh interesting comments to kick this off. This is what John Morton said yesterday. Quote, “The last few weeks, our front right now, we’re moving guys. I don’t think they’ve seen a run game like ours yet. You know, we have the patience. We stick with it. I think that’s a big thing. Let’s keep doing what we’ve been doing. We got to do that so we can stay manageable. We have to stay manageable on third down. On third and down to two and six, we got to be in that area. So, first and second down is going to be crucial. But the main quote out of that is, I don’t think they’ve seen a run game like ours. So, I wanted to ask you guys, when the Lions are on offense, and it’s that Lions offensive line against that Browns defensive line, which side is the edge? Well, I think um they haven’t seen a running game like theirs. Um it’s proofs in the pudding. I think Detroit is very balanced. Uh you got two guys with over 250 yards uh in Montgomery and Jir Gibbs in the back field. They both can do other things. They can very multiple in what they want to do and they can run the ball between the tackles outside wide. They can run gap schemes. They got a very nice offensive line. Penu is is ranked one of the top uh linemen in the game according to PFF and uh you know they they bring a very formidable front and running game to the table but the Browns have been the best defensive line in the in the game. Uh they’ve been dominant. I think Miles Garrett is playing his best football of his career and that’s hard to say and I think right now he’s playing as almost like the best player period. Um, I I want to see what happens. But I do think the Cleveland Browns give them a a little bit of of a of a challenge because I think just like the Lions said, they haven’t seen a group like this, they have not seen a defensive front like the Browns and what they can present as far as getting off the football. So, you know, I’ll give them a slight edge because they are playing at home. They do have the offensive line, but the the Browns have an opportunity uh to prove that they are an elite front, especially if they perform well in this week. The in the battle of the running game, I’ll include the running backs with the offensive linemen. I’ll include the linebackers with the defensive linemen. I got to give the edge to the Lions. Not because they’re necessarily better, because it’s how would you say who’s better? It’s it’s almost impossible to compare and it’s really close, but they’ve done it longer. They have more of a track record that offensive line with those running backs of being excellent than the Browns defensive line does with in their in their whole front outside of Miles Garrett. So, I’ll give the Lions the edge going into this game by a little bit, but certainly not to the point where I expect the Lions to just completely dominate it. You said literally everything I was about to say, so I will concede my time to the gentleman. Yeah. No, I I I mean, really, I think it is what it is, and it’s pretty clear. Um, I think that the Browns have a very, very good pass rush defense or excuse me, a run defense. I think the Lions have an above average. And he’s correct. We haven’t seen anything quite like this. Now, if you look at the combination of Jackson and Henry, that’s as good as it gets if you’re putting two guys that you must stop against a defense. and we stopped them. But it was a quarterback and a running back and this is different. You also mentioned that these guys are versatile. Keep in on third down. They can pass block. What I love most about what they do and I have Gibbs in my fantasy league so I watch them a lot and I see how they use them and I do get frustrated for how much he’s off the field. But then I see Montgomery come in and do the same thing and I’m like, “Oh, I see what they’re doing here. They’re keeping them on pitch counts and they’re keeping them fresh.” How do you win games in the fourth quarter? Yeah. Run the football. That’s right. And it’s a nice formula and they’re they’re reminds me a little bit of the M biner uh combination from years ago when the Browns could go one two and you didn’t really see a big drop off. I think both are elite, but I think the Lions get the edge. Yeah. And I another one part of this running game or or one part of this running back group that you didn’t have to worry about with with the Ravens is that Jir Gibbs is as good as it gets at catching the football. Whereas that that’s not Derrick Henry’s game. And obviously Lamar’s a quarterback, so he’s not throwing himself. No. Now there’s they’re going to be obviously two really good running backs on the field Sunday, but and this might sound like a crazy question because you talk about doing it for longer. Certainly the Lions running backs have a history of doing this for a long time. The Browns have a history of their running back doing it for two games and limited action in those. But Quinn Shawn Judkins stats, and I think you’ve got a graphic for this, Mike. His stats through two games look crazy similar to Nick Chubbs through two games. Now, I’m not saying that he’s going to be Nick Chubbs as a running back, but through two games, there’s a lot of similarities. When you average five yards a carry, that that’s pretty big. Uh that that’s a big compliment. He’s done that for a limited time here. Chub didn’t get off to that hot of a start, but look at the total yards and the touchdowns. Is it possible that the Browns have the best running back on the field Sunday? No. No, not yet. Not yet. There’s no way you can say that yet. Not just No. No. No. No. Not that in the future he could be better. The that he plays the best Sunday that he plays the best shot because you got you’re splitting carries with two, right? Is that what you were asking, Mike? I mean, I don’t think anyone’s going to I thought that’s what you were asking. Yeah. I think on Sundays is there a chance that when we come back on Monday and we say Gibbs played. Yeah. who’s gonna outplay who who will be RB1 after this game for that game. The advantage that Judkins has from that perspective is they don’t have any other way is he’s the only guy that they’re going to give the ball to. Yeah. 98% of their rushing. He’s playing behind a crappy offensive line and and uh the Lions guys are playing behind a good offensive line. But we’ve got a good defensive front and the comparison Nick Chub I believe in Nick Chub’s third game they played the Oakland Raiders and I believe he went off for almost 200 yards and I think three touchdowns in that game. um where they it was a they gave him the ball at the end of the game and they kind of it was the whole chain thing where we thought he had a first down, they overturned it, but Chub started to show the home run ability. And what I say to say that is he could be a dynamic person. We just waiting to see that long one. And and remember Nick Chub in those first few weeks was playing just a little bit before he became a starter and Mike points to the starter, but he would look looked dynamic in like five carries and eight carries and that’s why that’s why they got rid of Carlos Hyde. That’s Carlos Hyde cuz I I remember screaming on the radio. I’m like Carlos Hide is shot. This guy Nick Listen, I think Judkins is going to be a really good back, but we got to slow down a minute. It’s not fair to compare him to Nick Chub. Nick Shub played in a Hall of Fame. He won’t go to the Hall of Fame cuz he didn’t do it long enough. But as a Cleveland Brown, he played at a Hall of Fame level most of the time. I mean, he he not only was that Chub could run you over, run around you, but he was breaking runs where he was just not getting caught. It was like he So, look, Jir Gibbs is dynamic. Montgomery’s dynamic. Could Could he Judkins have a better statline than him this week? Sure. Because I think that that’s what they want to do. They’re going to give him more and more carries and he’s the only offensive threat. So, I I I wouldn’t be surprised to see that. I think he’s going to have the most yards rushing of of the three, which isn’t a big leap of faith here. The Detroit guys are splitting splitting carries, and Cleveland doesn’t have another back. He had 94 yards last week rushing, I think, and the Browns had 96 yards rushing. So, we, you know, it’s we’re a one hand one-headed monster. That’s all we can do is give the ball to Quinn Sean and let him go. Let him see if he can do quickly. Does he get 100 yards? I think he does. Yeah, I think so. Yep. I think he does. just you got to be going 111. You know, I again I I think that we’re going to talk about in our picks later, but I think the the game plan to win here is run the football, possess the clock, and keep Detroit’s offense as spectators. And you do that not by throwing it 45 times. You do that by giving it to Quinchan Judkins. Um all right, we’re ready to pivot to baseball. Disappointing loss last night for the Guards, their first and it felt like forever. Um, and as much momentum as they had, it just was squaltched last night because now you’re in a tie, even though the Guardians have the tiebreaker. They get the Rangers this weekend. The Tigers have to go to Boston to play the Red Sox, who are very much uh in a playoffs fight. Yeah. What happens at the end of this weekend? What What are we saying? I think the Guardians are going to sweep. Well, I think if they clinch Saturday, they’ll sit everybody Sunday and but they’ll win two out of three at least and they will win the division in my opinion. I don’t think the momentum’s gone just because of one loss. You know, the last time the Guardians lost back-to-back games was September 1st and 2nd against the Red Sox. They have not lost back-to-back games since. That was their only except for the the last game of the Twin Series. I think it was their only loss, right? And they’ve won 17 of 20. There’s still plenty of momentum here even with the loss. This team is playing with extreme confidence and belief that they could they could win no matter what is going on in this game. The Rangers are done. Three of their best hitters are gone for the year. Their their best pitch their best pitcher their two best pitchers, Evaldi and and Deg Grom are either hurt or done pitching for the year. Uh this is there there’s no excuse. The Guardian will take scares me a little bit tonight because he can be a very very good pitch. But Mel Kelly hasn’t been good for them. He’s pitching tomorrow and Sunday is supposed to be Patrick Corbin. He’s been awful. Awful. So I’m with you. I think they win the division. But they better win tonight. They got to win tonight. Yes. If you if you kick this one away tonight now the start they’ve been playing with no pressure, right? Like they’ve been playing with house money for the last three weeks on this incredible tear that they’ve been on. But now it’s expected of you. Now they’re expected to close out. So if if you lose now they’re the favorites to win the division. Yeah. If you lose this game tonight, they’re going to start to feel a little bit of pressure from Especially if Detroit wins. Absolutely. They got to take care of business tonight. Finish your breakfast. Um get it done. Uh you don’t want to waste the effort that you put into, you know, getting 17, 18 out of 21, 22 games. Don’t waste that. Come in, take care of business. Like you said, the Rangers are finished. They uh are ready to go on spring break and vacation to get out of out of the state for the for the winter. Go ahead and give them that early uh uh ticket. Bull. By the way, can we can you bring up the graphic of the pitching match up there again, Mike? Of the three pitchers. You want the three pitchers or tonight’s pitch? No, just tonight cuz Slade Sakone looks like like he’s ready to kill somebody. Good. I hope he has the same look when he takes them out tonight. He’s like, you know, he pitches with great intensity and I love that. I I love that. He looks like a 72-year-old dating his 24-y old daughter. Not easy. Go back and watch the YouTube show. One of my favorite sayings is it ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun. Yeah. Because it really says everything. Like when you’re the hunter Yeah. It’s fun. But when all of a sudden you’re the hunted Yeah. the pressure starts to just build with every single pitch, every inning, every game. That’s why And right now we’re the hunted. That’s why That’s why we need the hosie game. This is where your best players come in. We got we we’re going to find out what they’re made of tonight cuz there’s no excuse for them not to win the division. They have the tiebreaker and the easier opponent and they’re at home. There’s no reason for them not to do it. This is what I said before the Tiger series. I said this upstairs on channel 3. I said, “Here’s what we’re going to learn over the next six games. We’re not going to learn the better baseball team. We’re going to learn which team is more built for this and that’s it.” Yeah. And in the now in the micro in the macro from 30,000 ft. The answer to that has been the Guardians. We were 15 and a half games out in July. We were 12 games out less than a month ago. 11. 11. Yes. A month ago. Yeah. And what happened was the Guardians raised their game in that moment and the Tigers folded their tent. But now we get to see what happens in the micro. We’re even Steven with three games each to go. Yeah. We are the hunted because we have the tiebreaker. Yeah. The Tigers and last night they were the they they were the hunters last night. Yeah. And they came through. So what happens um is going to be great drama to watch it. I can’t wait. I I I don’t want to make this is going to sound like well I don’t care what happens after this. Uh obviously I do. I didn’t expect this team would contend for a World Series. Could they win it? Yes, they can. Especially with the pitching that they’ve had the last month. But there’s something to be said for just enjoying the moment. Like this is we didn’t think we’d get a September like this. They’ve given us an incredible month of baseball. I don’t want this ride to end, but this has been a lot of fun and it’s house money. Yeah. Get you get in there. They you know I’m going to feel like they they should win the first round if they’re the if they win the division. Yeah. But after that beating Seattle or Toronto or the Yankees, I mean that’s you know what I love? That’s a tall task. 30 years ago. Yeah. The Indians beat the Mariners in the ALCS to go to the World Series after they set a record. Wouldn’t it be fun if history repeated itself? Well, 30 years ago. And they wasn’t the 14 win. Mariners was loaded at the time. Oh my god. Right. By the way, the last time the Mariners won the West was 2001 when they set that record. Jeez. Each rookie season. Yep. All right, we’re taking a break. Who wants to hear from Coach Tyus? Yeah, he brings the knowledge. Next. [Music] All right, before you uh grab that betting app, you want to read our pre-written headlines. G Bush, what do you got? Well, listen, man. Last week we was all tripping. We should have believed in the Browns. And so this week, I went out here and I made amends for it. Psych. Browns become a snack after falling into the Lion Pit. Cleveland gets the gravy poured on them. 34-13 and a loss. Yeah. Yeah. This is This is a trap game. And the trap game means they’re trapped in that line. That is a That might be my favorite headline. Years of doing this. Has no faith in the Browns even in their defense. Well, no. Certainly not. Uh, how much can the off defense be asked to do? Browns defense collapses as the offense again looks anemic in 276 loss. I Wow. I there’s been a lot of talk about the Browns scoring 20 points and it’s football and like eventually these bad stretches end, but do they like I do they bull? And this is after a win. Yeah, that’s right. I just It’s impossible. It’s still impossible to believe the Browns won that game last week. You can’t play worse offensively. I love Quinn Sean Judkins, but Joe Flackle looks like he’s completely finished to me and I don’t see that changing anytime soon with their terrible offensive line or certainly their terrible tackle. So, I think it’s going to be ugly. All right. Um I love how you said Bob G. Bush no faith. Do you? No. Certainly not. Absolutely not. What are you talking about? I think the surprise there was usually G is the most optimistic. Yeah, he he has us getting mauled to death by the Lion. Uh I have the same thing. Uh I don’t I I I think that we’re going to get over 20 points. I think we’re going to show some progression on offense because we’re going to give the ball to Quan Jun. He’s our offense. And then throwing the ball to tight ends. But ultimately, this is a juggernaut offense. It’s not going to happen this Sunday. I got a 34-21 Lions win. Shame on all of you. Do you Are you Come on. No, I didn’t think so. Do you have it in single digits? Yes. Did you have the Browns covering Detroit evens the score? It’s been a rough week for uh Detroit sports fans this week. Lions are going to extract some revenge for that. Lions get revenge for Tigers. 2720 win over Browns. I’m with Jay. I think they break 20 points. Yeah, it’s the small things in life you have to celebrate. 20 points. The mini milestones. Mike, is it a clean sweep again for the second straight week? We’ve got Last week we unanimously picked Bay. We know how that resulted. Usually when we are unanimous, we are wrong. So in the sake of that mindset, we are unanimous. It is a feeding frenzy for the Lions. I do think Cleveland’s defense holds Detroit in check, but an immobile Flaco behind a battered O line leads to another disgusting offensive performance. I’m in the same boat as Bowl. Until I see Joe Flacco do something, anything, I just can’t bet on the Browns right now. I’m sorry. No, that’s Listen, we’re all with you. Um, I want to give a special shout out to Ant, who’s much better at making these headline graphics than he is in fantasy football. I don’t know if you saw the sub headline all of our headlines. Just throw anyone out. Look at it. Weekly hot takes. Fantasy football isn’t fun. Any Anthony is uh having another rough go. He and Evan 419 battling for that last spot. You don’t want You don’t want to be there. No. All right, that’s going to do it. Enjoy the weekend. You’ve got great baseball to watch. You’ve got the Buckeyes are back and go Sunday.

Quinshon Judkins has stepped right into the Browns’ backfield and made an immediate impact, and the early production is hard to ignore — it looks a lot like what Nick Chubb gave this team when he first broke onto the scene. From his burst through the hole to the way he finishes runs with power, Judkins has shown shades of that same downhill, tone-setting style that made Chubb the heart of Cleveland’s offense for years. That’s not to say he is Chubb just yet, but you can feel the city leaning in, wondering if the Browns have found their next great workhorse.
