just about ready to go. And on the mound today, Louisie Varlin. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. A lot more guys striking out today. But when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and miss stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Jake Mangum leading things off and takes the strike. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. That one back up the middle and it gets through. So, a man on base to start the inning. Just kept it simple. played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. Yandi Diaz now he’s done a great job making contact recently. Batting average this month over 400 fast for a strike. Diaz in his seventh season 33 years old and he was born in Cuba. Rudder at first with no outs here. Here we go. Turn. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Headed towards the corner. Lucas towards the line. Pulls it in on the run. And there’s one down. in third. All right, let’s take a look at the Rays lineup. Someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs, Jake Mangum. You know, Boo, a guy who hits righties as well as he does, just an absolute matchup nightmare. I mean, most of the pitching you’ll face is right-handed. So, when you’re hitting over 400 against righties, you’re going to put up some serious numbers. I like his chances in this one. Check on the runner. Mangum back on a dive. Junior Camroero batting with one down takes a strike. And there’s a hit. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. Left fielder Christopher Mor wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it. Right on time, good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. First and second, one out. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. Right through there for a strike. Hiter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Two on, one out. That’s a strike and the count is 0 and two. That’s good pitch there. Had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. And there’s a ball. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. [Music] Double play ball to second. Takes it to the bag. That’s one relay to Guerrero in time in an ending double play. No runs on two base hits. No errors and one left on. Now the Blue Jays will get their chance. No score. [Applause] And we’re back. Our starter in this one, Drew Rasmus and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser. The ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. George Springer leading things off and takes a strike. [Applause] swings and lines a base hit into left field. So runner aboard to start the inning. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. And now for the Jays. Nathan Lucas. Runner on the go. Strike in there. Throw to second and he’s out. Well, this is a real momentum killer after the leadoff single. Tried to steal second base on the first pitch. Defense was all over it. Nicely done from behind the plate with the catch and throw. Then a quick tag before he reaches the base. One out. Base is empty. on the ground right side and foul ball. [Music] [Applause] That missed by a lot and the count is one and two. 02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Strike three. Got him with the back door breaking ball. Well, that’ll make you smile out there on the mound or maybe pump out your chest a little bit farther. That’s about as good of a back door curve ball as you’ll ever see. Right on the black and not surprisingly just locked him up in the box. Two down, base is empty. And now the first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. That misses the zone and that is ball one. Two out. Space is empty. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. And that is out of play. [Music] Two down. Dolman keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Let’s go. The pitch bows it back with two strikes. And that’s outside. Two and two. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. Up and in. And it’s three and two. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Grinding AB right here. About to see pitch number 10. That’s hard hit on the line. And that’s the third out. We move to the second in Toronto. No score. Back now in Toronto. And now the right fielder Palasios. Var back to work and there’s a strike on the outside corner on the ground right side and that’s just foul. Oh, strike him out. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Well, I’m not really sure why he let that one go by. I mean, out of the hand, it had a lot of the strike zone. Sure, it had some good armside run at the end to move to the outside part of the plate, but with two strikes, you got to be ready to swing it there, and you can’t leave it in the umpire’s hands. Nick Forz stands in now and watches strike one. [Music] And that one upstairs, ball one. Gary Simmons, our plate umpire today, sort of has a reputation as a pitcher umpire. Yeah, a little bit of a wider zone than most, I’d say. And a wide zone can be tough to deal with as a hitter because you have to start expanding what you’re looking for, covering both sides. And with the stuff pitchers have today, you’re just not going to have a lot of success. One, two now. Up the middle. Nice grab from his backside. Nicely done for the Owl. What an acrobatic play right there. knocks it down, throws from the seat of his pants, and just looks like he’s playing in the backyard. He makes it look really easy. Now up for Tampa Bay, Carson Williams. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. [Music] right side. Lucas in position and that’ll do it. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back here at Rogers Center, bottom of the inning. Now it’s the DH. Addison Barker. Addison Barker. That misses. One and0. That’s a little bit low. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Fouls one off out of play. back to our left. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Right side hard hit. Handles, throws to first and quickly one away in the second. Adding fifth, left fielder Anthony Santandere. Anthony Santandere at the plate. [Applause] That’s outside. Ball one. Swinging a foul out of play. Come on Toronto. And it is two and one. [Applause] Just missed. [Applause] [Music] Let’s go. That one hammered center field. Pereira going back. Grabs it right up against the wall. Batty six. Center fielder Dalton Baro. And now it’s Daltton Bar. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. And that misses. And that’s ball one. No score here in the second. Line drive and foul ball. [Applause] Two outs. You can do it, Blue Jay. And a ball evens a count. [Applause] [Music] stays alive. [Music] [Applause] Two down. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. Ninth pitch of the at bat do next foul ball left side. He’ll see another. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Swang and a highf fly ball left field. Pretty well struck. That one carrying and it’s out of here into the home bullpen for a homer. He’ll circle the bases. That’s a special one. 100 career homers. Just like that, they move in front. It’s one- nothing. [Applause] That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. [Applause] Two outs, nobody on now. The third baseman, Ernie Clement. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. Bottom half of inning number two. [Music] [Applause] swing and a miss. That one at 99 and it’s one and two. Cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top half of the third inning. And stepping in for the Rays, Everson Pereira. And that is downstairs. And that’s ball one. swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. The 1-1 is cut on and missed to the pitch upstairs. Rip towards third, zips it to first. One up, one down. Batty Knight, first baseman, Bobby Seymour. Bobby Seymour next to hit for the Rays. Off the mark there and it’s one and0. [Music] [Music] Just missed. Well, I would expect in this three- 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. That’s ball four. tried another sinker but couldn’t find a zone. It’s tough after falling behind a hitter, two balls and no strikes. But now at least he gets a fresh start against a new batter. But he needs to get back into the strike zone and start pitching with conviction. And now it’s Brandon Laauo. Tying run is at first. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Varand picks over and he dives back in safely. [Music] Swing and a ball rip right field and that one back and that one is gone. He goes deep in his first at bat off the bench and they jump out front. It’s 2-1. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage. Even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one, nice piece of hitting there at the plate. [Applause] And next is the designated hitter, Yandi Diaz. [Applause] This one in the air, right field, dives, but it kicks off his glove. The throw in. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s saved. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. One out, runner at second. Junior Camero next to hit for the Rays and a foul ball. part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Diaz, the runner at second with one away. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Next pitch is outside. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. And the one two misses to even the count. That one hit to right and it drops in. Headed for the plate. He’ll score and it’s an RBI single and they lead by two. Well, he wasn’t afraid to hit with two strikes. I think he choked up a little bit, maybe spread out, but he got the job done right there. Now, the left fielder, Christopher Morell, 0 for one so far. And that’s outside. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. Activity in the bullpen. Trey Savage up and throwing. Number 68, the lefty warming up as well. [Music] [Applause] That one finds the zone and a count one and two. [Applause] He goes down looking. Richie Palasio will hit next. His first at bat was a strike out. [Applause] That one’s in there. And that is strike one. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. [Applause] Two outs. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Foul ball still 0 and two. Ball one there. One ball. [Applause] Laser could be troubled. Coming home. the relay. There’s the tag. They get him and that’s the inning. Three runs for him here and they move ahead. We head now to the home half of inning number three. Rays three and the Blue Jays won. And we’re back as we go to the last of the third. And stepping in is the speedy Andres Jimenez. fought off foul. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Hard hit left side over to first and a quick out number one. Batting ninth catcher Tyler Heine. Tyler Heinman now at the plate and takes low for ball one. And a popup right side foul territory. Seymour pulls it down and there’s two gone. Now batting second base George. Here’s George Springer. One for one. He let off the bottom of the first with a single. Swing and a ground ball. Fair ball inside first down the right field line and that one getting into the corner and he’s got a double. Oh, no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Now a chance for Nathan Lucas. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Hammer base hit. Here comes Sprinter around third. He’ll score easily. It’s an RBI single. It’s 32. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. That’s about as textbook as it gets. Got his stride and load out of the way early. He stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front. Man, that was like he was in the cage hitting off a tea. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. now. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. [Applause] And there’s a base hit to left. And now first and second with two outs. Stringing them together. That’s three hits in a row. Fast ball pretty much middle middle. And that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. First and second, two outs. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Addison Barger. Well struck deep right field. way back and out of here. [Applause] He flexes his power with that swing. His 21st of the year and they take the lead. It’s 53. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time and that is bad. Aggressive and it paid off. [Applause] Well, he went up there o looking to do damage. I think he had his sights set on that pitch. He went and got it and circled the bases. [Applause] So, two down and next for Toronto, Anthony Santandere. The outfield shifted pretty heavily towards right field. Strike on the outside. It’s 0 and one. Well, they’ve been able to score four runs off of him in this inning. And this is where you want to just max out. Get as much as you can. give him one of those tough innings where it’s going to be hard for him to recover in the next one. [Applause] Two down to he swings and fouls one off. Well, Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. But four runs score in the inning. Three coming right here on the three-run homer. It’s now a 53 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back now in Toronto. And here’s the catcher, Nick Forz. Forz goes 5 feet 11 in 200 lb and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2018. Swing and a miss as he was out front. Next offering upstairs. Really good take especially with two strikes. Spoils a two strike pitch. And he’ll see another. And that one lifted in the air. Center field. Baro under it, hauls it in for the owl. Now batting number 77. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Carson Williams flyed to right his first time. Foul ball. [Music] Check swing. Tried to hold up. Now an appeal to first. No swing. He held up. Patrick Johnson with the call there. [Music] So a foul ball makes it one and two. The Blue Jays leading by two. Top half of inning number four. cut on and miss. Struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Now batting manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Louie Varland won’t go any further and a decent effort considering he’s normally a reliever. Back with the new pitcher in a minute. Now pitching Treasavage into the game. Well, they didn’t get much length out of their starter in this one, so they’ve got a lot of outs to eat up in that bullpen. I think they’ll look for some length out of him right here if they can get it. Two outs, space is empty. Everson Pereira next to hit for the Rays. Grounded out his first time up just off the inside edge. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Swag a popup foul of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. [Music] Swing and a miss. And it’s one and two. [Applause] And a foul ball. He stays alive. There’s a swing and a drive. Out of here. [Music] That one felt good. Third home run of the season. It’s 54. Just an excellent swing all the way around and it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone’s attention. Got a pitch to drive short to the baseball, squared it up and the backspin carried it out of here. And here’s the first baseman, Bobby Seymour. Late swing, fouled to the left [Applause] and a curve is down and in. [Applause] And that one way outside and it’s two and one. [Applause] And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. I would throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Hard hit right side. Throws to first in time. And that is that one in the inning. And it comes from a rather unlikely power source. It’s now a 54 ball game. Bottom four. And now the center fielder D. Centerielder Dalton Baro. That one in there across the letters. Well, these Jays doing a good job of putting the ball into play, and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. They’re hitting everything thrown at them. Their contact rate is in the low 90s. It’s like they know what’s coming, and that’s just pretty ridiculous what they’re doing right now. Those numbers are well above the major league average. The 1-1 is fouled off. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. So up next for Toronto, Ernie Clement. He’s 0 for one. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Baro gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Pickoff throw. Dives back out. Man, you’re feeling so good. You just got the knock. You’re on base and then right away you get picked off. That’s just a tough one to swallow, especially after leading off an inning with a single and that one ripped to left. Bear ball around first. Digging for two. Throws to second. Throw is offline and he’s got a double. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. One out, runner at second. Here’s Andre Himenez. Grounded out his first time. That’s off the inside corner. And that is ball one. [Applause] Okay. And that one fouled off. Ripped to third. Slings to first. And they got him. Now batting catcher Tyler Heinman. At the plate. Tyler Heinman. He popped out his first time right through there for a strike. Runner at second. Two down. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Foul ball there. Let’s go Blue Jays. Next offering is down low. Clearly he hasn’t had it in this game and looks like sooner than later they’re going to have to go to the bullpen in the dirt. Swing and a miss. And that is that. So it’s no runs on two hits, no errors, and one left on base. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Blue Jays five, the Rays four. Back here at Rogers Center, top five, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Brandon Laauo. your Savage back to work. Just missed. Well, these Rays putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. And another ball. [Music] And there’s a foul ball. [Music] [Applause] [Music] And a big swing and a miss. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. That’s back. Forget it. Another homer. His second home run of the game. And this game is tied. It’s 55. This game is breathing new life thanks to that home run. And that’s exactly what they needed. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Yandi Diaz getting ready to hit. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. [Applause] And that misses and the count is one and one. With the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered, he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. [Applause] Reaching try but can’t bring it in. Couple of hits in a row for him here. You’ll often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. got the barrel in the hitting zone early, squared it up with the welltimed swing and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. Junior Camero next to hit for the Rays. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Music] [Applause] went with the sweeper, but it misses. [Applause] The 1-1. That’s a strike thanks to the sweeper. [Applause] goes down looking. Oh, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. And I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. on his stick. He was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. Here’s the left fielder, Christopher Morell. 0 for two in this one. Pitch misses. Ball one. Diaz leads off first with one away. [Music] [Applause] That’s in there. That’s strike one. [Applause] Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Lucas calls it in. Two away. [Applause] The batter down Palasios right Palasios. [Applause] delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Swinging a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Santandere makes the catch and that is that. And the Rays get one on a solo shot. All even at five a piece. Back after this on the show. Now pitching four. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth. And taking over on the mound. Ryan Pepio. 32 appearance. And the batter is George Springer. For the Jays, second baseman George Springer gets the outside corner with that one. Well, these Blue Jays really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see him go to work. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Little bit low. It’s a ball in two strikes. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Well, they found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. Just a simple ground ball the other way. that had eyes on it. Man, sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Now, here is Nathan Lucas. Swinging a drive deep right field. that one back there onto the track and he makes the catch. Now batting first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Junior. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. throw to first and Springer’s in there safely. [Applause] Here comes the pitch. There goes the runner from first. That’s in for a strike. Safe at second with a stolen base and the go ahead run is now in scored position. [Applause] [Applause] just missed. One out and a runner at second. Last half of inning number five. And that drops in for a strike. Oh, you can throw that big curve on the inside part of the plate. Very difficult pitch for the hitter to get on plane with. You can have a lot of success if you can pitch in that location. That misses the zone. Two balls, two strikes. Vlatty [Applause] now big swinging to drive deep left field that’s back there and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. Springer comes in to score and it’s 65. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. One out, runner at second. Now it’s the Toronto designated hitter, Addison Barger. First pitch, not close. [Applause] fouled off. He was late. [Applause] [Music] Right through there for his strike. No, he’s really working that inside corner with the cutter. I tell you what, I hated that pitch. So tough to get the barrel to and to keep it fair. cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. And now for the Jays. Anthony Santandere. The way these two teams have battled in this game, you know, you need more. Got to continue to add runs if you’re going to get out of here with a win. First off, and it just misses. Guerrero at second with two down. [Music] Well, no need to go right at this guy. First base is open. He can hurt you. So, make him expand his zone. If he doesn’t, give him a walk. [Applause] That clips a corner. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds, they’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. [Music] [Applause] Here’s a two- two. And that’s outside. Dalton Baro would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already, so I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. [Applause] fights it off. He’ll see another runner at second. Two down. [Applause] [Music] Fouled off again and it remains three and two. And that’s ruled the swing. It’s a strikeout. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. It’s tightened up a bit at 65. Now you’re dialed into the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of the sixth inning. And now Nick Forez in for a strike. One. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Sir Anthony Dominguez, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Fiser warming up as well. [Music] That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. [Applause] And that skips in the dirt. on the ground to the right side and it’s just fouled. That was close. That one misses. Now two and two. Swings over the splitter for strike three. Well, that split caught a lot of his own. Definitely a hitable pitch, but coming off the fast the pitch before, it’s kind of tough to recognize. You notice there’s something different about it. He threw it with the same arm action, same release point, and he left it up, but the movement and the change of speeds, that was enough to do the job. So, up next, Carson Williams. There’s the strike. [Applause] Bull. Raised down by a run. [Applause] Next pitch misses and the count is even. Two and two. I thought he’d bite right there. Strike three and that’s two in a row. came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. They’ll get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Here in the box now. No balls in a strike. Here’s [Music] your one. Just missed. Here’s a rip to short, but he’s there for the third out. So, they go quietly there. 6782 in the bottom of the sixth. It’s the Blue Jays six, the Rays five. [Applause] And we’re back. Bottom of the sixth inning. Here’s the center fielder Baro and misses inside. [Applause] swing and a miss at one above the zone. That looked like a case of deciding to swing no matter what. That pitch was way up. Nice job of the pitcher knowing that this hitter’s looking for something up that he can drive, but he just expanded the zone to his advantage. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of the zone right there. I don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty text pitching. Get ahead in the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. Here’s the third baseman, Ernie Clement. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. One down. Base is empty. And ball one. And that one is downstairs now. Two balls in a strike. That’s to third. Camero. Oh, he throws it away. No advance though. Ball didn’t get too far away. That’s a dangerous throw for the first base to try to handle right there. Exposed him to a potential collision. And we’ve all seen some of the ugly ones over the years on plays similar to that one. So, it’s great. Nothing came out of that other than the throwing error. Next to hit, Andres Jimenez. Outside low, ball one. Clement stands at first with one out. Let’s go. Come on. That’s in there. And that is out of play. And that one goes straight to the back stop. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Well, that’s part of the risk when you throw a breaking ball in the dirt. Even as good as catches are these days at blocking pitches, that one just got away enough. And that takes the double play opportunity away for now. ripped on the ground to second. Whips it to first. And there are two outs. Now batting the catcher, Tyler Heinaman. And next for Toronto, Tyler Heinman. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. [Applause] Yeah, baby. One ball in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate. Two outs and a runner at third here in the bottom of the six. [Music] That one way inside. Two outs with a runner at third. [Music] Still two and two after the foul ball. valves that off to the left and will do it again. [Music] Struck him out looking. Blue Jays held in check as it remains a 6-5 ball game. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Sir Anthony Dominguez, left-handed batter at the plate. And he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So this seems like a calculated move. Well, one game. Bobby Seymour digs in. Swing and a miss. 0 and one. Boom. That’s cheddar baby. [Applause] Swung on. Belted. Varel on the move. And that one hops the wall. And the tying runs at second base with a double. Always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. Lao at the plate. And the way he’s going in this one, we’ve been waiting for his spot to come around again. All right, listen everyone. Stop what you’re doing right now. This guy’s got two home runs already. Now he’s going for number three. Highfly ball out to left field. Santandere has this one sized up. Drops into the glove. One away. [Applause] So now here’s the DH. Yandi Diaz. First offering misses badly for ball one with the tying run at second here in the top half of inning number seven. Just missed. And you got to wonder with first base open, one out. Is he going to get a pitch to hit? Check swing and he went now two and one. [Music] [Applause] [Music] And he dodges that fast ball. Straighten him up a little bit. So the tying run at second and a swing and a miss there. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Runner at second here. One gone. [Applause] That one is absolutely belted. And it’s off the wall. Tying run is in to score from second. The relay safe and that’s his third hit. He delivers in a huge spot right there. Well, he’s so dialed in. I don’t think he even realizes how much pressure exists out there. Very easy swing. Nice and relaxed. This is the type of approach you want to see guys take in this situation. Now up for Tampa Bay. Junior looks like they want to set up the double play. Intentional walk will make it first and second with one goal. Builder Christopher Morel. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Sir Anthony Dominguez gives way and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching Rodriguez gets handed the rock out of the pen and he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Go ahead run on base. Christopher Morurell next to hit for the Rays. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play at the dish. looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play. Boo the one and that one is inside. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. One out. The go-ahead run is at second and a foul ball makes the count two and one. [Applause] Downing ball here. Rolls. Foul. Two. Two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out of the slider and there’s two gone. Nice work there to get the strike out. And that’s a big second out. I’ll tell you, this whole crowd will be fired up if they can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position. This is a big moment in this game. So, two down now and here is Richie Palasios. One for three. First pitch and he just misses. Two on, two outs. And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Next pitch off the play and now three balls and a strike. Nick Forz in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Music] Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Squeezes it and that’s the third out. Rays get an RBI double and we’re all even now at six apiece. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Kevin Kelly gets an opportunity to square off against his former team. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out a little extra jacked up right here. And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. Three for three with two singles and a double. He’s a big strong guy. Can untie this game with one swing. And the first pitch misses for ball one. You can expect this hitter to be looking for something on a TE. He can get up in the air and untie this ball game. That one finds the zone. One ball, one strike. Movement in the bullpen. Ryan Baker preparing to come on if needed. Whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. that one back there feeling for the wall as he makes the catch. Now batting right fielder Nathan Lucas. Nathan Lucas next up for the Blue Jays. There’s the strike. What a stop. And that’s a great play for the out. Aggressive move to his right right there to knock that ball down. You got to hope that the pitcher’s going to be there in case you can’t get to the bag yourself. But a good job to start that play. Tied at six. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Next up for the Blue Jays misses outside and that’s ball one [Applause] right through there for a strike. [Applause] Swinging a ground ball sneaks through base hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Clearly seeing the ball very well in this one. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Now Addison Barger, he’s already homered in this game. rolled softly, but that goes foul. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. Two outs. There’s the strike. [Applause] This one popped up. Williams. He makes the grab and that is the third out of the inning. One left for Toronto. Score remains tied. Six apiece. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Braden Fischer big swinging miss right here. Boo averaging more than one strike out per inning this season. So far he’s been pretty Nick Forez now at the plate. 0 for three in this one. And that’s in for a strike. Toronto’s bullpen with some action. Jeff Hoffman up and loosening in the pen. [Applause] And it goes just foul. [Applause] And that’s outside. fouls it off. Still one and two. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. [Music] Fly ball to right. No trouble here. Puts it away for the owl. And there’s one away. Now batting number 77. So now a pinch hitter number 14. Well, they’re turning to a guy who can definitely put the ball in play right here. So good move in a big spot like this. Breaking ball through there for a strike. Trying to keep good speed off the bases. and fouled off. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. [Applause] That one missed [Music] and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. All tied up and we’re in the top of the eighth. And down on strikes he goes two out. Now pitcher coming on for the raise. Josh Low. Well, they’re going with the lefty bat here. Boo. Trying to improve that matchup for a very important at bat in this game. First pitch misses. Two down to ripped on a line. Baro makes the grab and that’s the inner down in order. Go the Rays. This game remains tied at six. [Applause] now pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Brian Baker. And he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one in innings, so he’ll be tough to get to. Tied at six. Now it’s the switching outfielder Anthony Santandere for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. And he deals pitches in there and it’s 0 and one. [Applause] Highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. [Music] [Applause] [Applause] Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] [Applause] Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. Next offering is downstairs. That’s a really good take. [Applause] [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Dalton Vo next up for the Blue Jays. He’s already homerred here in this one. That’s in there. It’s 0 and one. one down. Base is empty. Hard on the ground to first and he takes it himself for the out. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Now the third baseman, Ernie Clement. [Applause] And that one’s a little bit low. And it’s one and0. Tampa Bay’s bullpen with some action. Cole Szer getting loose out there. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Let’s do it. That one fouled off. [Music] [Applause] Two outs. That’s a [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that misses the zone. Three and one. Andres Jimenez in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Music] Fouls one away and now three and two. [Music] stays alive. [Music] Three and two now on the ground right side. Loud on to first and the Blue Jays go down. One, two, three. Nothing doing it for the Blue Jays. So, we’re still tied at six. Now pitching. Welcome back. And here comes the closer to Hoffman. Well, home runs have been a problem this year. Not doing a great job keeping the ball in the yard so far this season. So, we’ll see if that factors in. So, digging in, Bobby. Tampa Bay first baseman Bobby Seymour. [Applause] in the air. Right field pretty well struck on the move. Racing back. Gone. Straight into the visitors bullpen. And that should quiet this home crowd. It’s 76. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. are clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. [Applause] Welcome to the game. First pitch out of the bullpen, a tough one. And you know, he’s just trying to get one in there for a strike. And on the other side, as a hitter, it’s a great time to be aggressive and let it fly. It’s not what they were looking for when they turned to him, but now he’s got to find a way to reset. Brandon Laauo next to hit for the Rays. [Applause] Just missed. Back and forth we go. A seessaw battle in the late stages of this one. [Applause] No question about this one. It’s out of here. And he’s gone yard again. That’s his third home run of the game. And they tack one on the board. It’s 86. Singy. The ball is jumping off his bat. Yes, it is. Tons of loud contact. Man, it’s been impressive. He’s putting on quite the show at the dish here in this one and he’s just so locked in with this swing and he’s just not missing right now. Three homer game, man. It’s so special and I tell you what, it’s a lot of fun watching him pull it off as well. Yandi Diaz next to hit for the Rays. And a fast ball clips the outside corner for a strike. [Applause] next offering way off the plate. Nobody on, nobody out. A pair of runs across in the inning here in the top of the ninth. That one to first and that’s just foul. outside. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Spoils that one and it remains two and two. [Applause] Good job to fight that one off. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. Right through there. Got it. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Oh, nice job right there. He’s struck him out twice. The pitch before looked like it was strike three. Doesn’t get the call. Bears down. Throws another quality pitch for the strikeout. Here comes the manager out of the Blue Jays dugout. And he will make a move to the pen. Jeff Hoffman done for the afternoon. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching. Number 65 will take over here. He’s into the game with the base empty. Paxton show. And stepping in for the Rays, Junior Camroero. [Applause] There’s the strike. Late in the game, everyone gets a little tighter. Way to get ahead on a really good hitter right there. [Applause] And that one hammered way back there. And that one is off the wall. The throw into second. And he’ll reach second with one away. Having himself a really nice game at the plate. Anytime you smoke a ball off the wall, you kind of think about what it could have been, but obviously you have to be happy with that result. One out, runner at second. Morell the next to hit. Just missed. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] Camero leads off second with one gone in the inning. And now two balls in a strike. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Tommy Nance, the young right-hander up and throwing. Little also throwing man at second. Try to get him to chase on the change up that time. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and the hitters count. Liner snagged at first. Throw behind the runner. They’ve got him doubled off. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 86. We’re back. And on the mound is the closer Pete Fairbanks. Well, he’s the guy they hope to turn to out of the pin to lock down wins. So, this game has gone to plan more or less. Let’s see if he can wrap it up here. And the batter will be the short stop. Andre Jimenez over for three with three ground outs. [Applause] And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Morell on the move. He’s got it and there’s one down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s safe extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. He’s two outs away. Here’s the catcher, Tyler Heinman upstairs. And that is ball one. The Rays trying to close out a two-run lead here in the last half of inning number nine. Next offering is down low. [Applause] on the ground right side loud and they’re down to their last out. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw. So up next for Toronto, George Springer. No matter what you’re playing this kind of rival to take your game to another level [Applause] at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Applause] Next offering pop foul off to the right. out of play. [Applause] [Music] One strike away on the ground and foul ball. Two-run game with two away here in the bottom of the ninth. That one missing inside. Pitch is in the dirt and the count now even up. [Applause] Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. But I want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the good vloan. [Applause] Pressure Mountain right here with the tying run in the on deck circle. He’s got to find the strike zone. [Music] [Applause] Fly ball pretty well struck right field. going back and it’s gone. His second home run of the series. It’s 8-7. He kept swinging and it paid off. Well, that was a battle, Boo. And he just kept taking his cuts. Finally squared one up. That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. [Applause] And now for the Jays, Nathan Lucas. [Applause] just missed. [Applause] Trying to close out a one-run lead and the home team trying to pull it out. [Music] Sliced the other way and fouled. [Applause] [Applause] Foul ball still a one and two count. [Music] [Applause] looking to get the tying run on base. And now the count is even. [Music] [Applause] [Music] This one in the air. Camo and he’ll make the catch. Ball game. And the Rays hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. We saw both teams come ready to swing it in this one and they found a lot of success. Couple of touchdowns up on the board today. Pretty amazing. And it turned out to be a close one considering all the runs put up. Really wild. I believe.
