Osa Odighizuwa: It Means A Lot | Dallas Cowboys 2025

What does being a team captain mean to you? Um, definitely means a lot. Um, just having that trust from my teammates, coaches, doesn’t it’s not something that’s lost on me. Not a responsibility I take lightly. So, um, it’s pretty cool. Sam Williams had mentioned this is a very violent defense style-wise. How would you describe this defense? I agree. I mean, that’s that’s part of what we uh hang our hats on. That’s that’s part of uh our style. So, I’m with Sam on that. What’s the biggest difference between last year’s defense and this year’s defense stylewise? Um, I feel like as far as like emphasizing takeaways, that’s something that we’ve always done. Um, definitely more energetic from from the staff and in terms of just bringing the energy daily. I feel like the mentality hasn’t really changed as much, but um, it’s definitely more of a style over scheme mentality. What have these last few days been like trying to really focus on week one but understanding that you know pretty big moment happened on Thursday for you guys? Um you know it’s it’s kind of like it’s one of those things the timing of it is something that doesn’t really allow you to dwell on any of that. You know what I mean? Like it is what it is. That’s my dog. Kind of kind of sad that he’s gone but I’m at the same time very happy for him. Happy that he’s able to retire his mom and and do big things for his family. you know, still wishing the best, but at the same time, we got a game on Thursday, so we got to focus on what’s right in front of us. Having a guy like Kenny next to you now, how is that really going to benefit this country? I think it’s going to benefit us a lot. Kenny’s a smart guy. He’s a baller, you know, um been a baller, so I’m excited to have him here. You played with your brother. What What did you know about Kenny kind of going into this? Um, my brother is someone like he said when he was at UCLA, he always respected how Kenny worked and his work ethic and and his consistency. So, just excited to have him as an addition to our room. I think it was is it Michael who gave you your birthday gift a week or two ago? Yeah. Yeah. Is there just like the personal part of this versus the business part? Is it kind of hard to reconcile sometimes where you make friends with these guys and they’re gone in the blink of an eye? Yes and no at the same time. Like it definitely it definitely sucks. You know what I mean? But just trying to focus on the positives like I said, bro, like what he’s able to do with his uh for his family with with the money that he’s getting and then just being paid what he deserves to be paid. You know what I mean? So just focusing on that. Did you think you would ever come to this? I was not expecting it at all, but you know, kind of is the nature of the business. You never know. You know, when were your coaches have used the word front office use the word unanimous making that decision in the locker room? How do you feel like that trade was received? I mean, I don’t know. I probably agree what coach said, but at the same time, like locker room, we don’t really have time to dwell on it. Got a game on Thursday. Where were you when it happened? It’s in my living room. Stay home. Um, uh, I I feel like great running back. Um, just tackling, gang tackling, you know. That kind of flues. Does that fluce his MO anyway regardless of the back? Like get everybody the ball anyway? thousand% 11 hats on any ball carrier. Were there differing opinions on Michael in the locker room? Um, next question. Not really trying to get into that. How happy are you that blind guy was able to get paid? Man, that’s dope. Um, like I said, love everybody that I that I play with. So, when I see a guy able to do a lot and and get that kind of money and be able to do things for his family, I know that feeling is second to none. So, I’m extremely happy for him. From a scheme standpoint, how much were you guys in Matt Co’s defense kind of incorporating Micah even though he wasn’t really like in practice or were you guys kind of preparing for life without him, I guess, during from a scheming standpoint? Um, I mean, everybody was getting reps, you know, so like we’re we’re prepared. Without him as a passer, obviously, you know, a lot of sacks over the last four seasons. How much does that kind of motivate you guys as a pass to try and kind of replace I guess what Mike brought to you guys? Um you know same amount of opportunities that we’ve always had in terms of pass rush especially through the ones that we create by stopping the run. So just all got to take advantage of the opportunities that we’re getting. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

DT Osa Odighizuwa speaks with the media after being voted one of the six 2025 team captains, the mentality of the defense, and getting to play next to Kenny Clark for the first time.

  1. He looks different with them new teeth lol

Edit the question at 3:40 is starting to make me think alot of guys in the locker room didn’t jive with Micah. Dak seemed like he was lowkey glad Micah was gone, and I noticed that all the way back two months ago when he was asked about Micah’s contract in a press conference. If Dak didn’t FW Micah, I can only imagine how many more guys didn’t like him.
