Utah Jazz News and Rumors | Walker Kessler trade value revealed | Jazz player taking a leap

Walker Kesler’s trade value revealed, a new signing coming to training camp, an injury to a Jazz player, and the player that’s showing up the most apparently in pre-training camp workouts. Let’s talk about it. It’s the Hoopner Show. [Music] All right, guys. Before we get into it, make sure you like the video and subscribe to the channel if you’re new here, please. I would appreciate it. Okay, so let’s just start with the new Jazz signing. You probably, if you follow Jazz Instagram, you saw this guy show up kind of quietly in the background and also on the latest post from Utah Jazz social media. But the Utah Jazz signed Mo Bomba to a contract, which is pretty interesting. I don’t know if Mo Bomba is going to play a lot for the Jazz. This is like his sixth start with a different team. Well, not sixth start, his sixth contract. So maybe sixth times is the charm for Mo Bomba. but he does come as maybe the third center for the Jazz. I do think it’ll be interesting. Maybe he can work his way into a backup role because of his ability to protect the rim and all the upside and measurables that he’s always had and never really lived up to it. So, we’ll see what happens. But, it’s an interesting signing at the very least. just provides some depth for the Jazz and a player at at worst that can go to training camp and provide kind of an NBA size, athleticism, and body that, you know, he’s played in the league. Has he been an impact player? Not really, but we’ll see if he can. Maybe it is. Maybe this is the time that Mo Bomba figures it out. That would be pretty cool if he actually becomes a high impact player in the NBA with all of his tools. He can figure it out. We’ll see. Another player or not another player, just a player. I think the Jazz have actually been pretty lucky in this way. But George Niang goes down with a uh stress fracture in his right foot. It doesn’t sound extremely serious. I don’t know. I guess we’ll see. Jazz PR said that it is going to be two weeks and then George Nyang will be re-evaluated. I don’t think the Jazz are in any sort of rush or hurry, nor are they too worried about making sure that George Niang is ready by season’s beginning. George Nyang does not really fit in what the Jazz are doing right now as a team where they’re just trying to develop their young players as they go into this complete rebuild that they’ve really started doing most recently last season. Uh you don’t ever wish for a player to get hurt, but to be honest, this means that some of those fringe minutes where you never quite know where those those minutes are going to go, more likely to go more often to a player like Taylor Hendris, Ace Bailey. So, you know, where I’m not, you know, grateful for an injury, I will say that I personally am happy that there’s just going to be more minutes to the young players. Now, Kyle Anderson’s still on the team. He’s going to get minutes at some point, maybe even starting minutes. If he gets starting minutes, I’m going to be a little sad, to be honest. But, there’s just less minutes to be taken away from guys like we said, Taylor Hendris and Ace Bailey. Those are the guys I want to see get as many minutes as possible. And I want to see the Jazz back them up with confidence or their in their game. And the way you do that is by playing them. That is how it’s done. Okay. Got two of probably the most interesting things. This one is a rumor from training camp. Uh one that I think is really interesting. This is about a player that’s been showing up in a big way. And I think if you’re talking to, so this comes from Ben Anderson and David Lockach. Apparently the guy looking great in pre camp workouts is Keonte George that the coaches apparently think that he’s the player that’s going to take the leap this year. Personally, I would love that. I’ve been very high on Keonte George. You can see that there is an offensive ceiling there that’s pretty high that if he gets there, he can do some really great things. And if he takes another step as a playmaker, as a scorer, and then can also just improve defensively, if he can improve defensively, it improves his value in a massive way. You can bet that this Utah Jazz team is very much not interested in no defense anymore. Defense has to become a priority for this team and that’s one of the things Keonte George has to get better at. I personally think he can. There’s been times where I’ve seen him do some stuff and you’re like, “This kid can defend. It’s just an effort and uh maybe it’s a fitness thing. I don’t know.” Uh but he just has to get better. Whatever it is, you just want to see that consistent defensive impact improve. And if he can do that, then the Jazz have a really nice player on their hand because we know what he can do when he gets hot. And if that shooting and scoring and playmaking gets more and more consistent, then things will get interesting. And it he really has an opportunity to do it with Colin Ston not taking up minutes anymore. So, I’m excited to watch Keonte George. Let me know in the comments. Do you think that Keonte George can take another leap? What do you think? All right. Finally, the trade value of Walker Kesler. Now, this comes with a tiny bit of grain of salt because I don’t know who the source is. It comes from Lakers Daily and they have this quote. It says, “The Jazz have a high asking price for Kesler.” One source told Lakers Daily that the Lakers would have to part ways with Austin Reeves and multiple first round picks to acquire Kesler, who projects to be a great fit next next to Donuch and LeBron James since he’s a skilled lob lob threat and excellent rim protector. So, it sounds like when they say multiple first round picks, it’s two first round picks. So, Austin Reeves and two first from the Los Angeles Lakers. And that would get uh get the Lakers Walker Kesler. Guys, what do you think about this? To me, that’s that’s a pretty great return. To me, that’s an asking price from the the Jazz that are saying, is Walker Kesler untouchable? No. But he’s also a player that if you want him, you’re going to have to actually make a trade to make it happen. Austin Reeves, if he comes to the Jazz, the Jazz would have themselves a legitimate starting guard that can score and can do some really nice things. Not a very good defender. The only issue with Austin Reeves, but you do have a player that you could have a core build. Now, you’re not building around Austin Reeves. He’s not going to be I He’s not an all-star. Probably not going to be one, but he does uh he does play off of stars extremely well. can shoot the ball, can do some really nice things, and he’s someone that, you know, if Utah does get a superstar in the draft, if Ace Bailey turns into that superstar, then you already know that you have a player in Reeves that’s can play off of him. And we already know from rumors we’ve talked about before with Walker Kesler, Danny A, and I’m guessing Austin A is somewhat in this camp as well, not fans of paying a ton of money to just a traditional center. So, you know, this rings a little true to me because I think well, I don’t think I know having written about them and talked about them here that that Walker Kesler has been in trade rumors. So, I don’t know if Walker Kesler is getting traded. It’s who who knows, but I think the Jazz would be willing to take an offer like this. That’s a good young player, arguably on the same level as Walker Kesler, and you get two first round picks. And it also makes sense because if you get two first from the Lakers and let’s say Luca Donuch actually stops eating uh Fatboy ice cream sandwiches and stays in shape and has a rim protector running to the basket like Walker Kesler, then they’re going to be pretty good and those picks are going to be late first round picks. So I think honestly you could argue they’re they’re perfectly uh worth it for the Lakers to get a Walker Kesler in my opinion, especially since that’s what they’ve been looking for for a long time. We know for like two years they’ve been wanting Walker Kesler. Assuming the Jazz would just give him up for a a bag of magic beans and they’re not going to do it. So if you want to get him Lakers, you’re going to have to pay up. Make those unprotected. Guys, that’s all the Jazz news. I’m sorry I missed a couple days. I was tired, but I’m feeling better. I’m excited for training camp. Media Day is on Monday, so we’re going to have to talk about some of the big quotes from media day. The Jazz season’s coming back, baby. 1. Lakers don't have any first picks available until 2031. So two late firsts in 6 and 8 years don't help the Jazz get competitive any time soon. How much losing should Jazz fans endure? This season will be 4 years of rebuilding. At some point fans will check out and move on.

  2. I'm not against trading Kessler. But a trade to the Lakers would be a hard "No!" for me because it would be gifting them exactly what they need. We already helped them out enough when the Luka Doncic trade went down.

  3. About Keyonte. He has taken multiple leaps during his career. Remember, noone expected his performance in the first summer league.

Then undouptedly he made improvements after the start of the first season.

I think he was also a bit impacted from the tankathon last season and trying to get the rookies some gametime and touches.

All this tanking stuff probably also a lot affects your motivation and takes off the final stretch, because you always have the thought on your mind that the wins dont matter and are even bad.

  4. If the goal is to rebuild consistently, then trades make sense. But if you want to start winning at some point, then why doing that?
Kessler and Lauri are legit pieces for the future. No point in trading them before we know what Ace is worth and who is the pick in 2026.
