NBA LIVE! Los Angeles Lakers vs Cleveland Cavaliers September 29, 2025 | 2025 NBA Season Live 2K
The Cleveland Cavaliers, they pride themselves on each and every step that leaves the victory. The preparation, the focus, the sheer will. Each game, a new opportunity to prove their identity. Lakers, Cavs is next, right after this. Look at Cleveland’s starting group. The rim protectors standing tall for him. Moy and Allen. The highly skilled guard pair of Garland and Mitchell. And it’s Drew in at the small forward. Many players Clark can drive in and step back, but few do both as well as Luca Donic. Yeah, I agree with you there, man. He’s special in that regard. And sometimes he can do both of those things in the same play, even multiple times. I mean, he’s a ball dominant guy, but he’s got special scoring ability. His footwork is a big part of it. His ball handling and his size. I mean, his size is deceptive and I think underlooked sometimes in how he’s able to do what he does with the basketball. Luca uses his body to create space and then finds the inside look. [Applause] Mitchell against Reeves. [Applause] Pass to Garland. Shot clock at five. Stru passes to Mitchell. off the mark there with the three-point shot. And even with good coverage defensively that time, he has confidence to drill the three. Mobley outside. And here is Mitchell. He’s defended by Reed. Garland against Donic. Stolen by Garland. Kicks it out to Mitchell. Pass to Struce Allen at the screen for Mitchell. Here’s the three. The shot goes in. First of the night. He’s one for three to start the game. Reliable. That’s Mitchell from three. James against Truce. Now here is Humer and he can’t answer back. The three-pointer offline. Let’s check in now with our Ally Leapors who’s got a story for us. Ally, I did briefly speak with JJ Reick. We discussed Evan Mobley and how he wanted to defend him coming into this matchup. He said, quote, “To make him settle for jumpers, we don’t want him getting easy buckets or deep inside positioning. That’s when you get into trouble. We’ll see how good the resilience is against him tonight.” Back to you, Kev. Great work as always, Ally. Thank you. The shot by LeBron. No good. Soft defense in that mid-range area, but they got away with it this time. There’s the three and it’s Mitchell missing. Well, it isn’t for a lack of effort when it comes to getting up to three-pointers, but not much to show for it. He’s going to lose the green light here very early in this game if this keeps up. Outside Garland, pass to Mitchell. Now Strus, he’s looking for Moley and finds him over LeBron. Mobley misses and so James will bring it up for LA. Now Donic James finds Hatchima and Eightton gets double team breathes and a rebound goes to the Cavaliers. And you could tell he thought that triple was going to fall. Struus’s shot is good. And he likes to get in a rhythm early. Nice triple. The Lakers trail and so JJ Reick will call a timeout. He’s going to take this chance to talk to his guys. [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Hunter checked in for Donovan Mitchell. [Applause] spins. I got the help. Help guy. James in the high post working on Hunter Clark for a while people kept asking how long will LeBron play. It’s almost like they’ve given up on that question now. He’s played for so long and so well. Yeah, he’s been unbelievable in his longevity and excellence, but eventually Father Time wins out. He’s a superhero right now and I think always will be. I can’t imagine that he’ll overstay his ability to play at a high level. So, we’ll see what that brings. and he makes the first. The feel LeBron has for the game. Unreal. Whatever situation he finds himself in, he always seems to have an answer. [Applause] And both free throws good for James. And we’ve got our 2K insider Shams Cherannia on the wand. Johns, what’s the story? Thanks, guys. Well, it’s been a remarkable comeback story for Lonzo Ball. He became the first player ever to undergo cartilage replacement surgery on his left knee. Now, with a role on a winning team in Cleveland, this is a great situation for a player whose IQ for the game is as good as ever. Mhm. A KG veteran. Okay, thank you, Shams. The wideopen look here for Garland. Another three for Cleveland. And breaking down some numbers here, the hustle stats for Cleveland. They’ve really been disruptive on the defensive end, forcing turnovers and turning those turnovers into points at the other end. And you can’t turn it over against this team. That’s a recipe for disaster. And we’re seeing the results of that. And here is Los Angeles now. They trail by three. LeBron a screen on Streus. Clock at four and LeBron throws it down. LeBron James power and athleticism on full display with the jam. Cleveland’s gone three of seven from three-point range in the first quarter. Now here’s Stru. Cavaliers moving the ball around. Donic against Garland. And then Allen slams it in. And you know guys, all it takes is inside positioning. As soon as you give Allen that, it’s pretty much a wrap. Donic looking it over. [Applause] Nifty move and the layup is good. Donic has got six. You know, as I watch Donic, I think it’s feudal to try to distract this guy. his focus and concentration and control of himself is um excellent. Now here’s Garland [Applause] from deep three-point land. Hatchima grabs the miss. And so it’s Hatchima who brings up the ball for the Los Angeles Lakers. Eighton kicks to Hatchima. He’s looking for LeBron and finds it [Applause] and they double up. LeBron stolen by Garland and Garland with a clear path to the basket and yes, it’s good. He’s got five and man is Garland fun to watch on the break. He really turns on the Jets. Pass to Hatchima. LeBron outside, pulls up again. Los Angeles pick works well there. Not much resistance from the deep. Yeah, that’s not the defense you need. You got to be tougher defensively. And timeout call by Kenny Atkinson. This now will give him a chance to discuss some potential changes. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] And some changes here for the Lakers. Maxi Cleba. He’s checked in for DeAndre Aton. Vanderbilt comes in for Ruie Himura. And Smart subbed in for Austin Reeds. Mitchell. He’s checked in for the Cavaliers. Lonzo Ball comes in for Garland. The Cavaliers leading ball feeling it out a bit. Hunter the pass to Allen. Allen with the screen for Hunter. And Allen with the slam. Did you guys see that? My goodness. Allen got crazy talent. [Applause] The Lakers have gone five of eight from the field shooting over 62%. Donic against Mitchell and he gets the whistle for the 3second call. [Applause] Cleveland leading by three. Ball dishes to Mobley. Pass to Hunter. LeBron grabs the miss. That is some tough defense there against one of the better finishers in our game. Cleveland no good. And for the Cavaliers, they’re shooting just about an even 40% to start. Count that one. With a number of moves and shots to choose from, Hunter is scary. Nice bucket there. LeBron outside. Here’s Smart. No good on the triple. Cavaliers have gotten seven of their first 16 field goal attempts to go down here in the first. And now, let’s send it over to our courtside reporter, Ally Leforce. Well, what Luca Donic does with the ball in his hands is never predetermined. He said, quote, “I just see what the defense gives me. It’s never the same decision. It’s a lot of factors. You’ve got to look at who’s guarding you, if the shots going in or not. There’s a lot to think about and then decide.” Kevin, back to you. He keeps him guessing. Ally, we thank you very much. Here’s Mitchell following the basket by LeBron James. [Applause] Moy, a screen on Donic. The kick out to B. Front pass the arc. They grab their own miss. Here’s Mitchell. It’s through for a second basket. He’s now two for six and bursting through inside. So difficult to contain when Mitchell’s on the attack. Pass to LeBron. Six on the shot clock. score the basket. His fourth. He’s only missed one of his five shots tonight. James doing his thing in close to the hoop. Good work there. Allen. A screen on Donic. Stolen away. Pass to LeBron. [Applause] And here is Cleba. Vanderbilt setting the pick for Cleba. Shot clock at six. Smart passes to Vanderbilt. The three for Dungeon. LeBron no luck. And here’s Ball. He’ll bring it up for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Three-point lead. Allen outside. Pass to Hunter. Allen with the screen for Mitchell. And the three ball is good. Mitchell’s got eight points. I tell you what, it’s it’s almost like stealing to watch how he plays the game from this seat. Donic outside. Smart with this screen on Mitchell. And here’s Donic from the arc. And a rebound goes to the Cavaliers. And he didn’t punish them for the weak coverage there, but they can’t count on him to continue missing. Hunter against James. Hunter down low. A shot that time not on target. Good D by James. [Applause] Smart on the wing. He’s covered by Ball. Donic against Mitchell. To the middle. Here he goes. And the dunk by Vanderbilt. Man, can you always depend on him or what to lead you to the right place with that pass? money. Hunter for three. Oh, and he nails it just in time. One eye on the rim, one on the clock. What a play. An ideal way to end the quarter with momentum on your side. And we reach the end of the first quarter. Cavaliers ahead. They lead by seven. We’ll get right back to the action when we return. [Applause] And for those of you just tuning in, the second quarter of action is where we’re at right now. And from what you guys have seen so far from Cleveland, what’s your take? Well, you can see these guys are unafraid to take chances defensively. Well, you know, the defense, guys, is just disruptive, active, and energetic, and you can’t afford to be loose with the ball against these guys. Marcus Hart is out there with Austin Reed. Then it’s Jake Larabia. Then there’s Jared Vanderbilt. And it’s Cleba in at the center filling out the middle. That’s who’s in the game for the Lakers. Oh, you you’ve got to be able to deliver when you get a bunny like that. That’s just too easy of a shot to miss. Back to Hunter. Wade outside. Mans a screen on Smart and it’s ball penetrating. Some nice passing by Cleveland here. Hunter no good. Lakers trail by seven. Reeves outside. [Applause] Back to Smart. [Applause] And one thing we love about the NBA, Clark, the different styles the teams play with. So, how important is pace? I think it’s critically important, Kevin, because the game is meant to be played at a fast pace. 24 seconds shot clock, 8 seconds to get the ball across the half court line. And some teams really step on the gas pedal and try to play extremely fast. Others want to massage the pace. So, I like the fact that there are different approaches to pace for the teams in the NBA. Smart misses. The Cavaliers leading by nine for three. Mitchell and Mitchell drills the three. A creative score. Mitchell uses that versatility and shotmaking ability to keep the defenders guessing. And here is Clea. He has yet to score. Pick it. Pick it. Pick it. Reeves outside. And again, the Lakers no good. The Cavaliers have gone two of four shooting the ball here in the second. And Nance slams it in. I tell you what, Nance plays with a force every night. Explosive, tough, fearless. Cleveland shooting their first free throw of the game here. Yeah. A year ago though, Kevin, 78% conversion rate from the free throw line. So that’s a nice allaround effort. Here’s what the Lakers are going with right now. Kokos checked in and Vincent subbed in for Smart. [Music] [Applause] That free throw good from Nance. And here in the second quarter of action with a hair under two and a half minutes played so far. pass to Vanderbilt. Here’s Vincent. And too much time in the lane, they get called for the 3-second violation. And just a little too lax with that possession and it cost them. And I tell you what, more brain neutral plays like that one and they’ll have a hole deeper than the one they’re already in. Jackson A’s, he’s checked in for the Lakers. The Cavaliers on offense. It’s been eight unanswered points for him. Vanderbilt against Wade. Pass to Hunter. Now Mitchell. Hunter the screen. Just five to shoot. And that one’s good. Mitchell. Initials got five points in the quarter. And their balanced effort at both ends has hushed this crowd. Yeah, you said the key word there, balanced. I mean, their big lead owes as much to their defense as their offense. And so JJ Reick will call a timeout, looking for a breather and maybe adjusting a thing or two. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Dton connect. He’s checked in for Jackson Hayes Garland. He’s checked in for the Cavaliers. [Applause] Here’s Reeves still without a basket. Pass to Vanderbilt. Now Vincent, he’s covered by ball. Back to Vanderbilt. Lakers shooting their third and fourth free throw attempts of the game. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] And that one falls for Vanderbilt. [Applause] He doesn’t get the second one. And here’s Cleveland. They’re on a 10 to one run. Hunter kicks to Garland. The kick out to Ball. Fast break. The Lakers pushing it up. Vanderbilt misses and not allowing the shooter even an inch of breathing room on that one. And guys, that’s exactly the kind of high impact defense they want to see out of him. Now, here’s Garland. He has five. Talking about Gabe Vincent Clark, he’s had some clutch moments in his career. Yeah, even though he’s primarily a role player, you like what he brings to the table. He’s a guy that’s capable of of making big shots and not afraid to take them. Here’s Hunter. Six to shoot. And rebounded by Connect. He converts those at a high rate, but not that time. Vanderbilt finds Connect. Some nice passing here by Los Angeles. Reeves with a screen on ball and there’s the basket. Whistle blows and a chance for a three-point play going to the line for one. Nice effort by Reeves that time. Just wasn’t going to be denied despite getting fouled. Lakers shooting their fifth free throw of the game here. Yeah, and 79% from the line as a team a season ago. Pretty reliable in that regard. Luca Donic, he’s checked in for Gabe Vincent. Cleveland also making some changes. Allen’s checked in for Nance and it’s Mobley in for Dean Wade. One of the tough things about guarding Reeves is his change of pace ability. I mean, he gives you a lot of different looks. A little bit herkyjerky and kind of unorthodox and all of that keeps you off balance. Well, if you don’t take care of the ball, fellas, that’s what can happen. Absolutely, Greg. That makes the turnover even more painful. What you you mean the throw down at the end? I’ll tell you what, fellas. I mean, the highlight shows are going to pain them even more. A lot of focus on the part of Moley. Gets great position, feet set, and lets it fly. And he’s going up for the alley. Here’s Labradia. A three-pointer off the mark. You know what though? Sometimes you can be too open. I think it may have surprised him and that’s why he missed. ball the pass through and Allen slams it in. One of the most impressive things about Ball is his awareness. He’s got great court awareness and is a terrific distributor. Donic against Ball out of bounds. Cleveland will take possession. That is just a careless turnover. You’ve got to be smarter in those exchanges. And Los Angeles with some changes. DeAndre Aiden’s checked in for Connect and James subbed in for Austin Reeds and Cleveland with a change here too. Strus is checked in. Hunter kicks to Garland and Allen slams it in. Boy, Allen always a threat, especially when you give him room to run. He’s capable of banging it home. Bass to Larabia. Back to Donic and they get it. Mobley with the rebound. Moley’s got four rebounds now tonight. Now Strus and here’s Parland for three. Vanderville with the rebound. And I thought that was going to drop. It looked good from here. Over in the corner, Larabio. Back to LeBron. Pass to Lorravia and the Lakers with another miss. The Cavaliers leading by 18. [Applause] Now here’s Stru. No good with a triple. They’ve been struggling here on offense. Yeah, a bit of a dry spell for sure. Luca with so many physical gifts taking flight right there. Garland with the ball for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Pass to Hunter. And here is Allen. Back to Hunter. Shoots over Lorabia. And there’s Hunter on the assist by Allen. Hunter’s got seven points in the game. Los Angeles has got nothing but zeros from long range in the second quarter. 0 of four. Garland against Donic. Crafty move. He takes it up and lays it in. Donic has got four points in the quarter. And guys, they continue to put a lot of pressure on the interior defenders with their work down low. Hunter kicks to Garland, hits the three-point foul. Oh, very solid from D. Darius Garland hurt you in so many ways. Lakers trail by 19. LeBron outside. Set up. Set up. Eighton sets the pick for LeBron. And there’s the drive and Aton throws it down. A towering presence on the offensive glass. Aiden uses his kite well to keep possessions alive. And timeout call by Kenny Atkinson. He’s going to take a minute here to get things straightened out. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Hatchima. He’s checked in for the Lakers. Dalton Ket comes in for Jake Larabio. And Cleveland also making a change. Mitchell, he’s checked in for Hutter. [Applause] Takes a step back. Wounded up there for Allen and stolen by LeBron. Right now, let’s take a moment here to catch up with Ally Leforce on the sidelines. Hey guys, Coach Kenny Atinson hit the ground running last year with the Cavaliers. He said Donovan Mitchell gave him the blueprint, adding, “Mitchell told me our next step is empowering Evan and me and Darius Garland can be great together.” So, there’s no reason we can’t be. So, a lot of it came from him. He had a grip on where his team needed to go. Guys, thank you, Ally. The shot by Mitchell, no good. Well, he’s got a great throw. That one almost dropped. James against Truce. Out to Donic. Stolen by Garland. Puts up a three. He’s held in by Los Angeles. Pass to Donic. Now Eightton [Applause] James in the post. Now here’s Himemer. Good. And the assist goes to LeBron. Machimur got five. Hachimura was hoping the ball would come his way and he was ready. [Applause] 152 left to play here in the half. And it’s Mitchell missing. Lakers trail by 12. Stolen by Garland. Twoon one as they jump out on the break and the foul called on Donovan Mitchell. That is his first foul of the game. Oh, great defense. They anticipated the play and got there first. And not afraid to put his body on the line either. He took a shot for the team in that situation. And the Lakers making a change here. Reeves is checked in. Spruce with it. He’s picked up by Donic and that one’s good. Mitchell. And guys, we know Mitchell can fill it up in a hurry, which is what makes him so much fun to watch. And the Lakers turn it over again. No clue where that pass was going. That is a brutal turnover. [Applause] The Cavaliers leading by 15. 112 left to play here in the second quarter. All with the screen for Mitchell. Puts it up and there’s another one for the Cavaliers. unwilling to let up even for a moment. That’s his killer instinct, just fanning the flames. Yeah, I love the fact he doesn’t play the score. He just keeps coming. Attack mode. He doesn’t know how to step off the gas pedal. Most any coach loves points coming off assist. Garland with the ball for Cleveland. Earlier in the game, they had a 19-point lead. Mitchell against Reeves. Mitchell kicks to Garland. Pass to Struce. That’s good. And it’s Garland with the assist. Garland’s got four assists in the game. The real come at us and we’re coming right back at you. A little back and forth from long range. I love it. That’s a terrific answer there. Here’s Hatche Merlin to come right back with the three of his own, but it’s no good. And this will be the last possession of the quarter if they’re patient. Yeah, they’ve got to hold for the last shot here. Moy, a screen on Donic. Stolen by Reeves. Donovan Mitchell firing on all cylinders for the Cavaliers. He got into double digits for the quarter with 10 points total. And we’ve got more M2K Sports coming your way after this break. [Applause] And after a very lopsided first half, we’ll see if things play out a little more evenly here in the second. It’s been one outstanding game from Donovan Mitchell. Man, he’s been running wild on him through that first half. Absolute dynamite on offense. And you know what? I’ll be interested to see just how much he’s got left in the tank. That first half had to take a lot out of [Applause] [Music] Cleveland leading by 17. Checking out the group for Kenny Atkinson to start the second half. Medel and Stru share wing duty. The big man on the floor for him, Moley and Allen. And it’s Garland in at the point guard position. Five on the clock. And he knocks down the jumper. Garland’s got 10 points. Garland’s gone four of eight from the floor. 50% on the night. And GA, you think about high skill level offensive players. Darius Garland near the very top of that list. Well, the son of an NBA point guard in Winston Garland. Darius has been preparing for this level his entire life and this offensive package is as polished as anyone. Lakers trail by 19. LeBron outside. [Applause] Moy against Dayton. Back to LeBron. LeBron uses the glass to finish the layup. He’s got 15. Yet another stellar night for LeBron offensively so far. In some ways, he’s just unstoppable. Mobley outside. There’s the drive. Good work defensively by Hatchim. The Lakers shooting 47% from the floor. Getting it done. The three for Dunic. Jared Allen grabs the miss. Allen’s got four rebounds in this game and it’s out of bounds. As touch by Mitchell. You can’t make brain neutral mistakes like that. I mean, he may get an earful later. And we’re just around two minutes into the final half of play now. Donic bounce pass. [Music] Now Hatchima, five points in the game. Let’s go. Good D by Moy. The Cavaliers leading by 17. Come get it. Come get it. Here’s Truce. He’s got six. Pass to Allen. Allen with the screen for Mitchell. Five to shoot. A three-pointer is right on target. Mitchell’s got 21 in the game. Pick works well there. Not much resistance from the deep. Yeah, that’s not the defense you need. You got to be tougher defensively. Here’s Aiden. Good. And the assist goes to Don. And this is where Aiden does the most damage inside. Feels like he can score on anyone. Moy outside. [Applause] Mitchell looking it over. Shoots. Lakers with the rebound. James has got his fifth rebound in this one. [Applause] A little under two and a half minutes off the clock now here in the third. Here’s Donic in a wide open look for Hatimura. Good on the triple. Hatimura’s got eight. It’s such a plus for Hachimura when he’s forcing the defense to defend him behind the arc. Allen outside break the Lakers near the three-point line. It’s Dunic and it’s Darius Garland with the rebound with the teardrop. Mobley dishes to Garland. Some nice passing by Cleveland here. Allen. That’s good. And you want more of this from Mitchell. Good to see him moving the ball like that. Anzo James will bring it up for Los Angeles. 17-point game and Darius Garland picks up the foul. That’s foul number two for him. Cavaliers making a switch here. Hunter checked in. [Applause] Hachimura against Moley. Pass to James. Donic outside. Down to five on the shot clock. The Cavaliers leading by 17. Go low. Go. Down low. Allen in the post. Aton’s there. Garland left side. Kick it out. over Reeves. Garwin. No good. Lakers have gone three of eight so far in the third quarter. Looking to lock in that rhythm. Count it. Reeves has got his second basket of the night. Reeves just taking it right to the defense there. Harland with it. He’s got 10. Allen finds Hunter. The three-pointer, no good. Lakers trail by 15. James looking around. Here’s Aton. And he banks in the layup. Eightton’s got four points now in the quarter. And a strong showing of physical strength there from Aiden. Defenders have their hands full when he’s around the rim. Now here’s Hunter. He has seven. Pass to Allen. over Eightton. Rebounded by the Lakers. Eightton’s got rebound number 10 tonight with that last one and stolen by Hunter. Outside Garland to the wing on the left. Mobley the pass to Hunter. Moy a screen on LeBron. The wideopen shot from Strus drains it from beyond the arc. Strus has got nine. Let’s look at the energy stats. That’s how the hustle game has been going for the Cavaliers. Really a great job in this one forcing the issues defensively. Great quickness and discipline combined making ball handlers very uncomfortable. And they’ve really been able to get out in transition and produce. The defense hasn’t had an answer for this uptempo pace. Now Garland after LeBron’s three-pointer that didn’t go. Mo that drops and it comes off an assist from Garland. Garland’s got assist number five here tonight. Spruce against Reeves in the corner. It’s James and the Lakers with another miss. The Cavaliers leading by 18. Garland left side. Pass to Moy. Bounce pass from Garland. Hunter finds Moley. Here’s Garland. Hey, right there. shoots over Donic. Garland no good. The defense there got away with a major lapse. Here’s Hatchima lays it up and banks it in. Hatchima’s got five points now in the quarter. He loves to attack from the inside. This is Hachimura’s comfort zone, no doubt. And timeout call by Kenny Atkinson. He’s going to take a few moments here to check in with his team and regroup. What you going to do about it? What you going to do about it? [Music] What you going to do about it? What you going to do about it? and Los Angeles with some changes. Maxi Cleba, he’s checked in for DeAndre Aton. Vanderbilt comes in for Ruie Himura and Marcus Smart has subbed in for Austin Reeds. Then for the Cavaliers, Mitchell comes in for Max Struce. And it’s Lonzo Ball in for Garland. And so it’s Ball who brings the ball up for the Cavaliers. They led the game at one point by 20. Releases and a little luck that time, but it drops. And that’s 23 points for Donovan Mitchell and got rid of it promptly. Mitchell wasting no time. Clea with a screen on Hunter. James kicks to Donic. Lock at six. Buries it down low. Donic has got 12. I tell you what, what a good thing that he showed up today because without him, this thing would already be open. Mitchell wide open, gets it to go from beyond the arc and the Cavaliers lead by 19. And this is the game plan for him. He’s a big part of their floor spacing. And you know what? It’s all about the long distance game for him tonight. He’s getting it done from out there. Now here’s James. He’s got 15. No one near Donic as he lets it fly. Good and smart. Gets the assist. Boy, Dante showing you his competitiveness right there with the back at you three. The revenge triple with the screen for Mitchell trying to answer back, but that three is off the mark. James dishes to Donic from downtown. Evan Mobley with the rebound. Not quite enough defense that time around. Just lucky he was off. LeBron against Hunter. Outside ball. Hunter with a screen on Smart. Ball with a wideopen look from outside off the mark. I think everybody in the building expected him to make that collective shot. Bonjic outside. [Applause] Back to LeBron. Vanderbilt. A screen on Hunter and the three off target. Cleveland leading by 16. Pass to Mitchell. Here’s Moble. Vanderbilt defending. Here’s Ball. And here is Hunter and Dons with a clear path to the hoop. Luka hustles and gets it to the rim. Boy, you’ve got to be careful around LeBron and mindful of his presence. Now he’s very opportunistic defensively and with that size speed and anticipation he can pick your pocket for three. Mitchell the offensive rebound and Allen with the slam. My goodness. That was absolutely filthy. Nasty. This building is stunned. He dug deep Greg into his bag of tricks there. Boy, I’d love to get a replay on that one. Let’s keep it handy so we can see it again. And so JJ Reick will call a timeout. He’s going to make some adjustments to the game plan. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] and Los Angeles with some changes. Jake Larabia comes in for James and it’s Austin Reeves in for Donic. Cleveland also making some changes. Larry Nance has checked in for Allen and it’s Wade in for Moley. [Applause] 116 left in the third quarter. Pass to Labravia. Some nice passing here by Los Angeles. Los Angeles with another miss. The Cavaliers leading by 16 to the paint. This shot by Mitchell no good. And Reeves has got the ball here for the Lakers trying to find Vanderbilt. Gets it to him. Mitchell against Reeves. Just five on the clock. Takes the three and it’s Wade with the rebound. Now 8 seconds separating the two clocks. Hunter the pass to Ants. Mitchell outside [Applause] to Wade for three. Hunter. It’s held in by Los Angeles. Reeves outside, launches a three, and the last second attempt doesn’t fall. Well, through 3/4 of play, down double digits. It may be difficult to overcome. Cavaliers lead by 16. And we’re coming right back. Be sure to stay with us as we get started for the fourth quarter. [Applause] And a chance right now to show you our State Farm assist of the game. And he sliced the D wide open with this feed. They had no chance to prevent that basket. Yeah, that’s just a brilliant read of the defense. I mean, it was also excellent anticipation of the movement of his teammates before the pass. Just great harmony on all sides. And one quarter to go in a game that to this point has not been an evenly fought contest. We’ve got Jake Larabio. Axi Clea is out there with Jared Vanderbilt. Then there’s Smart and it’s Reeves in at the shooting guard position. That’s who’s in the game for the Lakers. Now here’s ball. [Applause] Mitchell outside lets it go with a three. It’s good. The assist that time from Ball. Ball’s got his fourth assist in this one. Pass to Smart. Reeves with a screen on Ball. Back to Reeves. And they come right back with their own three-pointer. Coming right back with his own. Austin Reeds with the confident response. Ball the pass to Nance. Now Hunter over Reeves will not go. This is off the front iron. Well, Greg, they’re making a valiant effort to come all the way back. Wow. And they need to take care of the basketball. Plenty of time. No need to force anything. Textbook. Nice pass. Great catch. Even better finish. And so here’s Cleveland after the basket by the Lakers. Here’s Mitchell. Makes it off the glass. Mitchell’s got 13 points here in the second half alone. When you allow good scorers to get uncontested shots at the rim, no wonder you’re losing. You know, he should be getting extra attention from the defense, not less. Now, here’s Smart and it’s good with time running down in the shot clock. Smarts got his first bucket of the night. took that orange right to the wreck and they just let him go by. Mitchell kicks the ball. Pass to Hunter. Mitchell outside. Mitchell on the drive and oh boy, a lot of contact there, but he gets the call and will shoot two. And Greg, what stands out most about Donovan Mitchell’s game? I think it’s his consistency. He He’s a fearsome scorer pretty much since he set foot in the league. And with his pull-up game, he can get his shot off against anyone. [Applause] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] The first free throw is good. And the Lakers with some changes. Connect. He’s checked in for Jake Larabia. Luca Donuch comes in for Austin Reeves. And it’s Gabe Vincent in for Smart. He hits both from the strike. A little over 2 and 1/2 minutes have passed here in the fourth quarter and JJ Reick is called timeout. He has decided it’s the right time to talk. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat [Applause] up here. [Applause] Knocked loose. It’s stolen by Nance. Ball dishes to Hunter. Some nice passing by Cleveland here. And here’s Mitchell from the arc. The basket good off the assist from Wayne. Mitchell’s got 10 points in the quarter. And this is what Mitchell delivers for his team. He’s an efficient shooter you can rely on for buckets. The three for Dungeons. That miss puts him at 53% shooting tonight. Eight for 15. Now here’s ball defended by Vincent. The shot by Wade wide open and another three for Cleveland. It’s been this way since halftime. Tremendous production from beyond the arc. Boy, it’s been a three-point barrage. They came out gunning and have not stopped. Now here’s Donic and the Lakers with another miss. I think adrenaline was a factor there. He wanted to hit that answer. Oh my goodness. What a play. Nance is special. H how easy is it for him to make the spectacular look routine [Applause] outside and it’s connect in the corner. Los Angeles with another miss. Boy, you can just see the frustration growing on their faces. Nothing going their way. You know, guys, no denying it’s been a rough patch here. I think they’ve got to run whatever is best in their playbook to get a good shot. Well, and this has been their strategy throughout the fourth period. We’ll see how it pans out. You know what? Teams can get a little three happy down the stretch sometimes. Letting it fly. Now, here’s Donic. Pass to connect. Another miss. And they desperately need a bucket. And the great shooters know when they’ve got enough opening to go for the three. I didn’t think it was a bad choice on that possession. Offensively, defensively, they are in total control. And don’t leave out the coaching staff here now. I mean, their game plan has been perfect. Now, here’s Donic back to connect. Vanderbilt finds connect. Here’s Vincent. No good on the three. Cleveland’s gotten in the groove from three-point range. They are four for four since the third quarter ended. There’s Ball with the three. Good. And the assist goes to Mitchell. Mitchell’s got six assists here tonight. Lakers have gotten only three of their nine field goal attempts to go down since the end of the third. Pretty cold down the stretch. Clea with a screen on ball to the inside. It’s stolen by Nance. Hunter on the wing. He’s guarded by Connect. And here is ball. Mitchell outside. Shot clock at six. Launches it. It’s hauled in by Los Angeles. Pass to Cleba. Here’s Vincent. He’s covered by Ball. The three. The rebound by Mitchell. Mitchell’s got six rebounds here tonight. Hunter kicks to Mitchell. Ball up top. Donic against Mitchell. Drives to the hoop and then Mitchell with the dunk. And what a ferocious finish once Mitchell gets some speed behind him. Look out now. Vincent inside. Here’s Donic and just miss after miss right now. And since halftime, he has just been ice cold. Just can’t seem to get anything to go his way. Hunter, the pass to Mitchell. Wade on the wing. This one for three. Hands it from downtown. Oh, great pass by Mitchell. He can run your offense. slide over to the two as well, giving you some great backcourt versatility. Now, here’s Donic. Sinks that one from the post. Donic has got nine points now in just the second half. And so, it’s Ball with it. He brings it up for Cleveland. Pass to Nance. Outside Ball. Mitchell outside. Mitchell is double. Wade passes to Ants. The basket good off the assist from Wayne. The man has no heart and that’s poor defense for a team that has a long way to catch up. They look pretty demoralized to me and that always shows through at the defensive end first. Drills the three-pointer, connects, got himself going there. His first points of the game on the deep ball. Nance outside. Back to ball. [Applause] Mitchell against Donic. And it’s Hunter with the jam. And boy, when Hunter’s aggressive, good things seem to happen for him and his team. [Music] Mitchell against Donic. Vanderbilt. A screen on Mitchell. [Applause] It’s connect on the wing. Off target from three-point range. Yeah, but the defenders draped all over him. He just could not shake loose. And that one’s good, Hunter. That is good offense. Unselfish play. And so it’s the Lakers with it. [Music] Here’s Vincent on the wing. Donic. [Applause] Back to Vincent. Six on the shot clock. Los Angeles needs to get off a shot here. Connect. No good. He’s missing shot after shot after shot from long range. With time running low, he’d be better off trying something else. Wade passes to Mitchell. Wade sets the pick for Mitchell. Hunter. No one around him. And a miss there on the triple. Lakers shooting a poultry 33% in the fourth. Not a good showing for this offense. Pass to Vincent. [Applause] Back to Donic. Sweet little floater. Donic has got 21. Boy, such a soft release on this difficult shot. Donic is a master at knowing how and when to use that shot. Now here’s Hunter. Cleveland moving it around. [Applause] Nans dishes to Mitchell. Mitchell is double trying to find Ball. He gets it to him and good that time. Ball’s got five points now this quarter. Well, I tell you what, Ball doing a nice job using his size down in the post, rising up above his defender to get that one to go down. And here’s Donic from the arc. Nailed three-point land. Well, guys, this was never really a contest. Just a total obliteration, if you will. And you can safely say mission accomplished now for the Cavaliers. A few times this season, turnovers have cost him, but they really kept the ball under control. They were both focused and relentless. And one of the key components to this victory, if not the biggest, was the incredible performance for Donovan Mitchell. Tremendous contribution from him scoring the basketball. Everywhere you look, his fingerprints were all over this game. Here’s Vincent following the score by Cleveland. Pass to Cleba. Now connect covered by Hunter. Vanderbilt a screen on ball. [Applause] Now here’s Donic offline with his three. And you know what? If you’re the defense, you got him right where you want them. Let him keep shooting those threes because he’s been brutal in this half. Now here’s ball and it’s Wade in the corner. Off target from outside. I’m shocked that didn’t turn into three points. I mean, he makes you pay on those nearly every time. Three seconds separate the shot clock and game clock. Triple Vincent misses. So we see the Cavaliers taking the win here.
