Pirates vs. Braves Game Highlights (9/28/25) | MLB Highlights

A couple of story lines that I’m looking at today. Number one, Charlie Morton, possibly his last start of his career. And number two, could Drake Baldwin get to 20 home runs. Charlie Morton being back in a Braves uniform is sort of surreal and it’s going to be fantastic to see what he does today. I’m officially calling it Charlie Morton day. Why not pretty exciting for everybody here, I think to get this opportunity to see Charlie Morton, you could see the overall numbers and what he is done as a Brave, but it really is the memories I think of the postseason that stick out as some of the biggest ones for Charlie Morton, but it worked out really well and we got to see number 50 back in a Braves uniform at the end of the season and perhaps at the end of his career. So he has walked Triolo that will bring nick Gonzalez to the plate grounder to third on to second for one, 5432 is on with the two out single that will bring up andrew Mccutchen and the two, of course on that date back on June 10th, 29. Morton’s Pirates debut, Andrew in his first week in the major leagues on Friday and it came off the glove there. Hasan Kim who goes a base hit for Mccutchen Mccutchen will turn 39 the 10th and bart with a fly ball to deep left center, got some carry to it. We will keep an eye on for Matt with one more homer. It would be his fifth career 30 home run season runner at first one down for ronald A ronald four for eight in this series. It deep to left center and she is long gone. Two to nothing. Braves in the first. Always nice to punctuate the season with a home run in your last game. How about this fastball right down the middle after the walk 95 miles an hour and Ronald hit this thing 400 51 ft. This was a bomb. Look how far up this goes to left center field wife Cindy, four kids here today, Cam Benji Grace and Amelia Hall to take in what could be the final moments of Charlie Morton’s big league career 2 to 2 and he did it with a curveball. And for Charlie Morton, that’s going to be the last batter he faces today. Possibly in his career. Brian Snicker is going to come and get him this very well. Could be the end of the road for Charlie Morton. And what a ride it has been when he walks off the mound, he would like to believe that he’s walking off knowing there was still something left the tank, the spin on that curveball, that last one that he threw ranked 29th highest of his career of the 11,633 curveballs he thrown in his life. It was a top 30 curveball. So he still got, I mean, that was unbelievable. Something very special that a special guy did in Chris sale to let Charlie Morton have that moment today and soak it all in. Struck him out with the slider that into the top of the second Pirates go down 123, one out for Matt Olson and drew a walk and scored ahead of the homer. Out to two are gone for a who hit a long home run. His first time up. A two run shot strike three called, got him with the curveball on the edge to the fourth. It’s two. Fastball. 96 went up and away and get the swing and miss faster runner at first and nick Allen, he’s there with one out back to the top of the order jerk and pro who’s popped out twice and, oh, what a throw right on the money. Nabs nick Allen couldn’t get rid of it any quicker and you couldn’t have thrown it more accurately. Strong and very accurate right on. The bag had to be there right there. Strike three called slider and we go to the sixth in Atlanta with the Pirates trailing 20. Chris sale goes to work and he delivers to Tommy Pham payoff pitch check swing. He went around, struck out, strike out number six for Chris ryan reynolds will pinch it for Mccutchen. Ryan reynolds pinch hitting. How about that pinch hitter? Brian reynolds doubles as he bats for andrew Mccutchen. That’s interesting wrapping up his season with a one for two day and Pirates trail two nothing Reynolds in scoring position here with one out in the sixth bart gonna drop on into right and Reynolds will score. It’s a 21 ball game, a pinch hit double for Reynolds bar brings home reynolds. It’s 21. That’s what you like about the extra base hit. You, you only need two hits, hit a ball hard, get on second and just a little jam shot but well placed out there in the right field. Take it off for second base. They did. You are right. Excellent throw by Baldwin and Allen does the rest. They’re thinking about it, but they’re not going to do it. And Drake Baldin, we saw some throws to the third base side of second base. Good adjustment here as this one is on the money. Good pick from nick Allen to get that tag down in time. 12 pitch swinging miss struck him out, not singing that tune this time. And coming on in relief for the Pirates second big league appearance for the lefty hunter liner to left, it bounces into the third row. A double for the Braves first baseman. Solid at bat here for Matt Olsen. You see a guy who you’ve never seen before and it’s left on left and there’s a 94 mile an hour fastball right down the middle, not a lot of movement to it. He’s back to strike him out. But that hitters, especially a guy as good as a, you, you tie him up with a fastball, especially in a fastball to speed up that bat a little bit. So you got the chase on the breaking ball and Then the split choice for Flores. He’s a first one down frozen pizza here on the final day of the season. And what is Chris he usually do in these spots? He empties the tank as good as anybody and he got him looking at a fastball a final strike out of the season for Chris nine strikeouts. Today. He had to battle through injury this year but still put up wonderful numbers on the heels of his campaign in 20 20 41 down here in the eighth, one final shot for matt Olson. Most likely for that 30th homer. It would be a great time for it. Soft liner, it drops out of around third. He will score in the, still a good way to end it for matt Olson RB I single in a spot in which you were looking for a little bit more room. Fastball mislocate in off the plate, but high velocity and looked like matt, he might have got jammed a little bit and that might have been a good thing as Allen slides in give Matt Olson 95 runs driven in this season, Adam in the hands of Drake Baldwin and one final trip of the plate most likely for Drake to wrap up his rookie campaign. It won’t be a home. It’s a bouncer to short what first? And now Matt Olson is going to come in and score on the careless by the Pirates routine as it can get. And Triolo throws one in the dirt that Flores can’t pick and it leads to another run Raisel Iglesias on here in the ninth inning. He’ll be working for his 29th save and 34 chances line to center Michael Harris one for him. It has been consistent all season long. Everything that’s gone on with Michael. Yeah, there’s been some up and down with the offense, but the defense has remained consistent all year long. And why not one more time here in the ninth inning of game. Now he’ll be pinch hitting for Canario and getting a strikeout of o’neil Cruz two down here in the night ground ball off of Iglesias Glove Allen and for one final time in 2025 Braves win and that’s the season another year in the books. The Braves win it 4 to 1.
