Royals vs. A’s Game Highlights (9/28/25) | MLB Highlights
One final time in West Sacramento here in 2025. Game 1, 62 is upon us between the athletics and the Royals should be fun here for the big finale and Michael garcia is ready to hit on the first pitch. He bangs it off the wall in left field and the Royals have a runner at second now. Maybe third. No, Michael hits the breaks. Patino has 113 RB I ground ball that her name is going to what a play at second. Stop it, stop it right now. I mean, Darrell makes this look just way too easy pass yanks it in goes into that nice little slide here after the gobble up and the fact that he’s able to sort of use his glove as a runner of sorts. It’s like Salvador Perez will be intentionally walked and that swung on, lifted to left center playable Colby Thomas is back and he makes the catch Cole Reagans who has struck out 90 in 57 innings swung on and missed strike three pares has his first strikeout of the ball game and he needs just three. It is patch. Colby Thomas here is Rooker 2 62 30 home runs, 89 RB I appearance for Rooker working the walk Rooker. We’ve seen him every day this year, every single day. 162. And guess who’s coming out of the game? Congratulations to the Iron Man this year. You’re going to see his teammates almost race to beat him at the top step. Everything he has meant to these young young players for the A’s setting. An example swell got a miss strike three Soderstrom chase the slider in the dirt. Two strikeouts in a scoreless first for Cole Reagan. Carter Jensen. He’s had an excellent month of September his first month as a big leaguer fastball line back up the middle of base hit in his center field. Carter Jensen has another hit a leadoff single here in the top of the second inning Jensen goes over to second and Messi is coming up. So now Massey lines it to right field and won’t make the catch and Jensen had to hold to make sure he didn’t catch it. So the Royals get another good swing against Basso and have runners at first and third. So ultimately draws a walk. This is loaded and that’s it for Brady Basso. So one out three on the new pitcher is right, Tyler Ferguson. We’ve got a scoreless ball game but maybe not for much longer. The Royals have the bases loaded and only one out Garcia steps to the plate basketball hit in the air straightaway center field playable for Colby Thomas. He backpedals a few steps, lines it up and makes the catch Carter Jensen tags up from 30. Comes in to score. Standing up with the game’s first run. It’s a sacrifice fly for Michael garcia and the Royals have a one nothing lead in the top of the second inning. There is Max M and a swing and a miss at a beautiful change as he strikes out to get, things started here in the third inning and that’s his fourth strikeout of the day. There’s a swing and a miss at the off speed and there’s number 55 strikeouts one time through the order for Corean two up, two down in the matter will be Thomas a swing and a miss and a strikeout number six for Corean who strikes out the side, he’s at six strikeouts through three , scoreless frames. Spin takes over and there’s a swing and a bouncing ball that’s headed up the middle and a base hit the have had their leadoff man on in three of four innings and he’ll swing ground to the right side by the diving second baseman or, and it gets through the right field and all the way back to the fence here comes Fraser around third base, he’s going to score and mass he will get to third. So the Royals take a two nothing lead. Thanks in part to JJ not able to make a play in. Right. That will be garcia who had two very productive plate appearances and a swing, fly ball right center on the run. Thomas, can he get their not going to drop in for a hit right center fielders collide in the alley. It’s an RB. I hit for garcia to score comes mass and the Royals lead three nothing as Nick Kurtz leads off the athletics fourth inning and a swing and a miss. And there’s number seven for Cole Reagans and it’s four consecutive batters over two innings that he now it’s Carlos Cortez and he makes contact and drops it into center field and that’s the first hit and only their second base runner and a swing and a miss and a high fastball turns into strike. A number eight through four scoreless innings. Three nothing Royals with two down in the fifth inning. And that will bring up Carter Jensen and that’s another solid base hit for Jensen. Harder is two out of three and that will bring up Adam Frazier who is one for two Jensen take, he got a good break so he’ll go first to third easily. Now, 1st and 3rd. Michael Massey has two hits today and a run scored fastball sliced in the left center field. That’s a base hit. Michael Massey is three for three. Carter Jensen scores from third and Michael Massey doesn’t just have another hit. He’s got an RB I, so coming off 10 strikeouts on Tuesday at the Angels. He has 8/4 innings and he’s only allowed a walk and a single swing on chapter three going to be a tough play up with the bare hand garcia can’t make the play. That’s an infield single for Brett Harris and he is of a star in the film, Baba shot to the right side. Massey Gloves. It plant spins, throw a second one out there relay to first not in time the day beats the relay and avoids the double play and Maro comes out of the first base dugout that signals the end of the afternoon and the end of the season for lefty Cole Reagans back to back singles against Cruzz. The bases are loaded with only one out all of a sudden the A’s have the potential tying run at the plate, swung on and missed strike. Three res got him with a fastball at 97 at the eyes and it brings back quire back out of the dugout to make a pitching change. Daniel Lynch the fourth is entering to face Kurtz left on, left Kurtz hitting a buck 95 against left handed pitching this year, swung on and missed strike three. Lynch got him with a slider in the dirt four pitches, a huge strikeout for Daniel Lynch the fourth and he strands the bases loaded and the Royals would love to add to this lead as they’re going to face pitcher number five on the day for the athletics and a bullpen day for them. Right hander, Michael Kelly faces Mikey swing and a high fly ball deep. Right center is back and it’s gone. The grass and right field. A home run for Mike Yassky and the Royals lead it five to nothing. Number 16 on the year for ya. As he homers in this ballpark, he once called home as a Sacramento river cat. So rude greeting for Michael Kelly. Courtesy of how about this one, Carter Jensen, you want to see his power way up on the grass hill and out of the state, you bet flex that biceps for the right field bullpen and the Royals have back to back home runs in the seventh, just a measly 482 ft off of Carter Jensen and a swing and a hard chopper to the right side. Second baseman Bobbles, it recovers throws behind the pitcher. It’s off his glove safe at first for mass and that’s going to be it for Kelly out comes and time had been called. That is a pitch clock violation. So that is a walk to garcia to put two on and two out for junior swing and a liner deep to left field, left field are going back. It’s going to be over the outstretched glove of Max Schuman. Here comes Massey around third garcia does likewise. It’s a two run AA laser beam off the bat of Bobby Wood Junior and the Royals lead it eight to nothing and fitting for Bobby Wood Junior. And what is likely his final at bat of this season to have a double. He leads the majors in doubles with 47 and that is 184th hit of the season also to lead the majors first pitch to mike Yassky and he hammers it deep to right center field lad day and Thomas are back, they look up, it’s gone into the Royals bullpen. Mike Yastrzemski second consecutive at bat with a homer. He’s hit solo shots in the seventh and the eighth and the Royals lead nine nothing and to’s own Sam Long, he makes a return to his hometown and he’s on the mound in his hometown for his first appearance of this series back to the top of the lineup and Colby Thomas in the left field, this is gonna roll to the wall and Kobe’s gonna have extra bases. So Kobe Thomas a one out of two base hit and that will bring up nick Kurtz. What a rookie campaign it’s been for the big lefty Kurtz puts his leg on one. He’s not gonna stop at 35 make it 36 for Nick Kurtz exclamation point on the rookie campaign. Turn it up, big fella a whole lot of offense off the bat of the big Amish this year and this ball is rifle out of the yard the other way, Luder Avila for the last three outs of the season and the Royals leading by 73 outs away from a winning season. And so Brent Harris draws a leadoff four pitch walk in the bottom of the ninth grounded fair. Harris will be held at third and has a double 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Back to back cases for Avila two outs in the Royals are now one out away from putting the finishing touches on a series finale win. Thomas hits it in the air to center field, John Rave has it lined up. He’s underneath the makes the catch and the Royals win the season finale, they beat the A’s by a final score of 9 to 2. And with that win the 2025 Kansas City Royals finish with a record of 82 and 80. It’s a winning season for the Royals in 2025.
