New England Patriots Winners & Losers vs. Panthers NFL Week 4 Ft. Drake Maye & Marcus Jones

Uh, it’s been a couple hours, but I’m still super excited and st super I can’t even speak. Super happy about this win. 42 to13. The biggest blowout in a couple years for the Patriots. The most points scored in a couple years. And it feels like the vibes are immaculate and everything is going up and up and up. So, I’ll take a look at the winners and the few, if any, losers from today’s win over the Carolina Panthers. Welcome into Patriots Today by Chat Sports. I am your host, Brett Alper. And I mean, the game the start was not great. Uh, you you let them score first and you let them drive down the field. Seven plays, 76 yards, and it’s looking like this is going to be a rough game for the New England Patriots. And it’s going to be all right. Well, Gonzo is back. Christian Gonzalez is back, but but they’re still struggling a little bit. Christian Ellis was struggling a little bit, but ever since this nonscripted drive locked down Bryce Young, Chuba Hubard did absolutely nothing. And Tedo McMillan looked like a rookie. 42-13, guys. 42-13. 29 points. And if you’re hyped about a Patriots blowout win like I am, this was an awesome, awesome game, go ahead, like the video, hit that thumbs up icon because I think we have a winning streak getting started. All right, the first winner. I mean, we got to talk about Drake May, right? You got to talk about Drake May and just how good Drake May was today and how good Drake May has been over the course of the last couple of seasons or couple of seasons. I’m still excited. Couple of weeks, the last three weeks, Drake May has looked like an incredible quarterback. And you could see during the game against the Panthers, it wasn’t much. 14 for 17, 203 yards, two touchdowns, but he is looking like he’s coming and just finding who he is as a quarterback, kind of developing into one of those top quarterbacks. And you could see it in the way he moves his legs. You can see it in the way he goes through his progressions and just showing his as a leader. He really looks like one of the top quarterbacks that the Patriots are going to have for the next, and I mean a long, long time coming. Then we got Marcus Jones. Then we got Marcus Jones. And I mean Marcus Jones had an amazing amazing amazing game. I I was super excited about what I saw from him. He did play the slot corner. He was the other guy with Christian Gonzalez with Carlton Davis. Demarcus Jones was on fire. Three tackles, two assist tackles, but it was on special teams what we saw. He takes that punt back and I thought it was going fair catch, breaks three tackles, then bounces out on the outside. Bounces out on the outside, breaks through and then on another one he breaks through for 61 yards. It was two punt returns for touch or two punt returns almost two for a touchdown. But you saw this tweet from Mike Reese coming out and they announced it from the press box that he had 167 punt return yards and that’s the most by a Patriots player in franchise history. Breaks a record that was set all the way back in 1976. Marcus Jones is a big winner. I want to see him on offense. I want to see him just get that jet sweep. Use it to your advantage, Josh McDaniels, please. I want to see him do that because if he’s that good on special teams, try him out on offense, too. We saw it happen a couple years ago. Come on, try it. Next winner. Kristen Gonzalez, man. I missed you, buddy. I missed you, Gonzo. I really, really, really did. And Alex Austin playing in the corner in his place wasn’t hot. Wasn’t great. But coming back, he’s he was lights out. He held Tedo McMillan to like two catches when he was guarding him. And there was a lot like Christian Gonzalez, he was kind of playing his own side. Carlton Davis was on him a little bit, but overall played a great game. And you could see the difference in this defense with him on the field. He’s that leader of the defense. He’s the best player. Milt Williams is working his way up there. I’ll tell you that much. He is working his way up there to be one of the top players on this Patriots defense. But Gonzo being back and next week going up against Shakir. It’s good. It’s good. Fourth winner, Stefan Diggs. I made a video a couple days ago talking about because I saw it. People were complaining about, “Oh, Diggs is washed. He’s not going to be anything.” Well, then I looked at the snap counts and he was only playing 48% of the time. And then I told everybody, you need to calm the hell down. He had six catches in the first game. and it was kind of little calm. Little calm. He only had three catches last week, but 101 yards, his best game as a New England Patriots. Still has that jolt of speed. Still can get open any time. And if you look at the catch percentage now, he does not have a drop this season. Stefon Diggs is still one of the best wide receivers in football and he is going to be a big big part of this Patriots offense and he’s only going up. It’s still been less than 12 months since he tore his ACL. And my last winner from today’s game, it’s kind of just a here you go, Arandre. You played solid. I’m not going to say you played great. But the big thing coming into this was just getting your confidence back. That’s all this was. Nine carries, 38 yards, 4.2 yard average. No touchdowns. Trevon Henderson got the touchdown. Shout out to him for getting his first career one, but no fumbles. You’re a winner in my book. It showed a lot of guts from Mike Frabel to not bench him. I said to bench him, I said, “Bring up Terrell Jennings. Bench from Andre Stevenson. Let him sit it out. Let him learn. Let him learn his mistakes. Come back the next week and you’ll be back right where it was.” Well, no. They trust from Andre and he had no fumbles today. He only had nine carries, but he was holding on to that football. And it takes a lot of trust from your head coach to do that. And I give props to him and I also give props to Mike Frabel himself for making that decision. It’s a great decision. What are we doing? 42-13.” Well, I want to look at the bigger picture here. And the Patriots still have a big penalty problem. Discipline is a big is still a problem with this team. They did not take care of the football well when it comes to penalties. seven for 54 yards and most of them came in the first half. I think the Patriots had five going into the first half and it involved a bad hands to the face call. It involved a uh holding call. I think there was a pass interference on on uh Carlton Davis. You have to get better. There was a holding call on Trayvon Henderson. You have to stop committing penalties if you want to be a good team. If you want to have a chance, if you want to have a chance, you got to be more disciplined. And you have to be more disciplined going up against the really good teams. You have to play mistakefree football. You have to. If you don’t, if you play mistakefree football, you’re going to have a chance against the Buffalo Bills. They have the talent. They have the defense, but you have to play disciplined. And you cannot you cannot have penalties. You cannot commit turnovers. There was no no turnovers today. Just don’t commit penalties and this team will be great and be successful and maybe even have a chance at the playoffs. What’s your confidence level going into week five against the Buffalo Bills?
