Good amount of that is from the bullpen, and lack of late game offense. We need a new coaching staff, and a new spark. I believe in this team though.
We talked about this in one of the GDTs. Given the lopsided/losing trades, the injuries, the unexpected collapse of the bullpen, and experimentation with Milb players – I am surprised the record wasn’t worse.
Thank god for this. I didn’t know how to figure out the difference between 80 and 77.
This is a disappointing trend. It’s not *bad* bad yet, but if we don’t turn it around next year, we will officially be an average team.
Marlins won more games than the Rays. Rays had more hits, runs, and home runs than last season. Rays played in more minor league stadiums this season than last. Rays had more ownership changes than any team this year.
3 games is 1.85% of a season.
This team really reminded me of 2007. A lot of great hitting production and exciting players coming into their own but no one knew how to play together yet and we had absolutely garbage pitching.
I’m glad we didn’t have as terrible of a year as 2007 but I’m hoping that next year we can really put it together.
I’ll be honest, I was optimistic about this year before the season started but I didn’t think we’d be WS contenders. I absolutely thought we’d be better than last year though. What a disappointment.
The bright side is we got to see a plethora of incredible young stars this year and we finally got to witness Aranda coming to form. I feel like, as Rays fans, we’re usually drip-fed prospects in the Bigs so this year felt special in that sense.
Next year will be exciting, but we need to make big changes if we don’t want to finish under or around .500 again.
The Jays did the opposite of us at last year’s deadline, not trading away players because they had a down year.
Their pitching was worse than ours but they outhit their bad pitching throughout the year. We couldn’t outhit ours enough to win the close games.
