Padres Give MULTIPLE Roster Updates… Playoff News

Potter fans, let’s talk about some roster moves, some decisions yet to be made, and other questions going into the playoffs. That’s right though, the playoffs are here. What’s going on everybody? Christian Person back with another episode of Padres’s Digest. Thank you very much for tuning into the show that told you we would make it to this moment where dot dot dot uh we arrive as a flaming wreck into the playoffs, but we’re all going to say that we’re confident because Fernando and Manny are starting to hit really, really well. Reminder on anything that we’re going to be talking about now, if you want to drop a comment, that would be great. We love hearing from you guys. If there’s also something else that you want to see a video on, drop a comment. And as always, if you want to hit the subscribe button, it is much appreciated, but it is never required of you. You will never we will never go behind a payw wall. We will never force you to pay for anything because let’s be honest, Padres’s not entirely worth it sometimes. Uh I want to get to this as my as as my first headline. Um that sets up the uh domino of moves to discuss for the playoffs. Lias Diaz he out with an oblique injury. Here is the update that we have for you on it. Basically it’s dayto-day. He he he is feeling it. It is not uh it is not a oh man oh he’s fine. It is not oh it was a rupture to ble. So, in the realm of like it being red alert, this is the end for the Padres’s, no. But I’ve got a main question about this Elias Diaz thing, and AJ Cavel was tweeting about this to a degree, is what do we do here? The option behind Diaz uh is none other than Luis Campusano. the o the O for his lifetime of this season guy. But um they were talking yesterday on the Twitter sphere about Campusano potentially coming up. This move has not been made officially, but it is a discussion of what do we do with Diaz when he’s daytoday and already not um the greatest offensive catcher. So, we got to assume that Elias Diaz going out there would be because to me the only thing I can see is he has been Nick Paveta’s catcher this season. Nick Paveta is kind of our ace right now and I would not want to impugn Paveta’s professionalism and assume that he can’t get it done on an elite level with anybody behind the dish. But it is also kind of a real thing sometimes for pitchers at at any level, high school, major league, little league, and everything in between that sometimes you just have a better battery mate that it’s like you get your best stuff when person X, Y, or Z is there. So what do you do then? Do you take Diaz for just he goes in when uh Paveta and but then he’s a dead roster spot. Other than that, not that you want to say Camp is going to come up and then he’s going to like fight with Fine on this, but if the Padres’s carry three catchers potentially like AJ Cabel is talking here, it could also just be out of necessity that like you you have to you you need Diaz to get Paveta’s best maybe and then just assume that in reality Camp is the backup for Fine and Diaz is kind of just that like uh like emergency if you need a uh a living body to do something, but other than that, he’s a dead roster spot, and it costs us a pitcher. Dot dot dot question mark. The pitching one is is to me especially it makes this an actual interesting debate because it’s not just like they’re saying take Diaz and Campy and then one less backup outfielder or something like that because right now the Padres’s seem to kind of need all of the other uh Glacius Sheets Johnson whatever your perfect piece is for this. The Padres’s seem to kind of need those dudes, but they also need the It is It is weird to have this kind of a of a cause and effect at the back end. And it’s not the end of the world, but it brings me to AJ’s other tweet in this thread of roster moves talking about Kyle Hart getting optioned back down to clear up JP Sears to come up for the last regular season game, uh, which is the today game that he is talking about. And then this meaning that ruling him out for the wild card series. So, uh, Yuki and Bradley Rodriguez final two bullpen spots makes me then think that if you carry that third catcher, it would mean getting rid of Yuki or Bradley. And I’m Bradley. And I’m curious, does that mean anything to anybody out there? I in looking at all of this, like I said, I would like to believe that Paveta can say, “Okay, Freddy Fine is going to be my guy. He’s still going to be my best stuff.” But I want also not to mess with Paveta. He has been very solid. He’s been very reliable. Knock on the Knock on Oh, sorry, Doc. I always forget that every time I do that, I get my dock going. Um, but yeah, knock on wood. I’m not jinxing it, but I don’t want to mess with the pitching. And so if we have to, even if it’s Diaz for the first five or seven or just for how long Paveta starts, I’m willing to not have one of these two dudes in the bullpen. But I’m curious what you think. Are you We have also run into years in the past where Padres’s have needed tons of pitching and it looks right now like Padres’s are going to need tons of pitching and maybe not for the wildcard series. Maybe we can get away with only having one of those two guys in the bullpen and having three catchers for the wild card series. But it’s also kind of like this isn’t where the end goal is for the Padres’s from my understanding. the batteries have kind of always been like, “Hey, we want to go to the World Series, NLCS.” Like, so if you’re thinking about over multiple series, it could be something that you you fall short in the NLCS because for those first two series, you were kind of still lagging and dragging and you overused Mason Miller’s arm or you over pitched X, Y, or Z. I don’t I don’t have a concrete answer for you. And the Padres’s have, as of us recording this, about 40 hours to submit their final roster. So, kind of pulling full circle back to Diaz being daytoday, you know, two days of recovery on on the oblique could be enough to be like, okay, Wednesday, by Wednesday, he’s, you know, he’s good for the couple of innings. I’m not a medical expert. I can’t rule that one way or the other. But I can say this. I could say that this feels like something that we might overlook as being an important element, but could be something very easily that Mike Schil and AJ Prowler could be on the wrong side of making the dominoes of decisions here. So, I’m really curious what you guys think about this move specifically about what are we doing with our catchers, who’s getting that last spot, how are you feeling about the Padres’s playoff roster? Drop a comment on all of that. Like I said, love hearing from you guys. I feel like this has been a very successful first year of YouTubing. Um uh and the feedback has been phenomenal. Even the criticism has been phenomenal. It just is really nice to be finding other Padres’s fans. So, I thank you guys all for reaching this point. This is the last video of the regular season because technically now everything else that I’m going to be talking to you guys for the next day is uh is going to be postseason. Also, can I just end with lol the Mets man? Bye, Sodto. All right. Talk to you guys later.

  1. I think it's B S a 3 game series in chicago? why not 2 there, 1 here. make it a LITTLE more fair. I remember 1984. cubs won first 2 games there, then, padres won all 3 here. hard to win 2 out of 3 on the road.
