[Dubow] #49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Brock Purdy reported he had soreness in his toe starting last night after the game and he will be re-evaluated later today. WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) and WR Jauan Jennings (ribs) also will be re-evaluated

  1. Shoulda rested Purdy, can’t mess with lingering toe injuries. Shoulda put in practice squad QB Martinez and face the music against the Jags if we wanted a chance for Purdy to play the Rams, as unlikely as that was. Like lemmings being led off the cliff.

  2. Not surprised; he didn’t look like himself. I do actually get why they put him out there (hobbled Brock > hobbled Mac in a game that was theoretically winnable even if we didn’t manage to get the job done) but for TNF we’ll probably have to just roll with Mac, eat the near-inevitable loss, get some rest with the mini-bye and hope Kittle and Ricky are back for Tampa.

EDIT: This is also why those early divisional wins were so huge

  3. It was obvious watching him. Dude hasn’t floated as many passes the past three seasons combined than he did that single game. Couldn’t step into anything would be my guess.

  4. Bringing back Purdy was too soon but maybe Mac Jones’ knee wasn’t healthy enough to play. I’m concerned we won’t have Ricky, JJ, or Purdy against the Rams. Though even with them it’s going to be a huge challenge. Almost wonder if sitting them out in anticipation to take an L and let them heal to win more games down the line.

  5. If Purdy plays on Thurs and it gets worse, we’re cooked. That injury is fucked up, a potential career ender.

  6. No sense in running him out there on the short week to get torched by the Rams. Just take the L, enjoy the mini-bye, and try to get people healthy and ready for Tampa.

  7. Would Mac even be healthy enough for TNF? Brock’s rainbows were painful to watch, felt like an INT waiting to happen on any throw over the middle.

  8. I have been a Niners fan dating back to 1982. I was fortunate to see the glory years of Joe and Steve and the superbowls that are attached to them. Brock was a wonderful story going from being the last pick in the draft to leading the 49ers to the Superbowl and almost winning it. However, I just feel the league has now caught up to him. He has now thrown 8int in his last five games which is not good at all. Also, it seems Brock has been injured prone now for the past couple of seasons which is also not good. I just feel Brock arm strength has gotten worst after having his surgery. Seeing Mack Jones makes certain throws which Brock can’t make makes me question if singing Brock to that deal will come back to haunt this team long term?

  9. Ima copy and paste what I posted on another post on here. But this injury shit is out control smh.

all things considered I hope they roll with mac jones on thursday night (assuming he’s good to go), if Purdy is still banged up, a short week isn’t the best situation. they invested in him long term, so think practically and have him ready for tampa.

this injury shit is getting old though and it needs to be addressed internally. it’s football, guys are ultimately going to get hurt, but this organization doesn’t know how to keep their qb’s healthy. last durable qb they had was kaepernick, and it’s much more of an organizational issue when I really look at it. jimmy garoppolo was injury prone and that was known before the 49ers traded for him, but trey lance had an injury or two prior to his season ending injury in 2022 and those injuries impacted him in terms of having a real shot to get the starting job in 2021, mullens and bethard both suffered some type of injuries during their 49ers tenure which caused them to miss time, Mac Jones got banged up in the Cardinals game. Purdy has had his share of injuries. Like it would be one thing if it was just Jimmy, but all these other guys getting injured at ome point as well.

And this is just qb’s. it’s not even accounting for other positions. like this is well more than the inevitable bad breaks which come from a physical sport like football. i’m sure some of it is bad breaks and misfortune as well in terms of getting hit a certain way or landing a certain way causing injuries, but in general it just seems like they’re bad overall at keeping guys healthy. and they get hit hard with the injury bug regularly.

  10. Why did they rush him out. It’s a ligament injury. Those take a lot longer than muscle or tendons.

A re-injury seemed like the only real outcome. I don’t get it.
